[1889-1918] Son of Tom Tasker.

Born in Boothtown.

He was a dyer's labourer.

During World War I, he served as a Lance Corporal with the 1st/4th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

He was killed in action [26th April 1918].

He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium [82-85 & 162A]

Tasker, Arthur Stanley
[1896-1917] Son of Walter Tasker.

Born in Halifax.

He was an apprentice scientific instrument maker [1911].

During World War I, he served as a Corporal with the 5th Battalion Essex Regiment.

He died in Palestine [2nd November 1917].

He was buried at Gaza War Cemetery, Palestine [XXIX F 15]

Tasker, Dennis
[1920-1943] Son of John William Tasker.

He was educated at St Joseph's Catholic School, Claremount / employed by Paton & Baldwin Limited.

During World War II, he enlisted [1939], and served as a Private with the 8th Battalion Durham Light Infantry.

He died 14th August 1943 (aged 23).

He was buried at El Alia Cemetery, Algeria [12 E 1].

He is remembered on the Memorial at Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance, and on the Memorial at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church

Tasker, Emma
[1848-1???] Daughter of William Tasker.

In 1867, she married James Wadsworth in Halifax.

James died in 1870.

In 1871, she and her children were living with her widowed mother in New Bank.

In 1873, Emma married Rusby Nicholl in Halifax

[1843-1897] Son of William Tasker.

Born in Halifax.

He was licensed victualler at the New Inn, Boothtown [1881] / landlord of the Ovenden Cross, Ovenden [1887, 1894] / innkeeper at the Royal Hotel, Elland [1897].

In 1872, he married Betty Oates Hemingway in Halifax.

In [Q4] 1898, he married (1) Hester Walton [1871-1914] in Halifax.

H died.

On 6th November 1915, Henry married (2) Carrie Gertrude at Halifax Parish Church.


Carrie Gertrude of Brow Lane, Shibden was the ex-wife of Amos Frobisher.

On the marriage record, she is shown as widow, but no death has been found for Amos

He was a box boy (carpet) [1871] / a boiler maker [1881, 1891] / beerhouse keeper at the Victoria & Albert, Boothtown [1898].

In 1892, he married Hannah Rebecca, widow of Padget Wilcock, in Halifax.

Linnaeus died on 25th February 1898.

He is mentioned in the List of Local Wills: 1898. Probate records show that he left effects valued at £10.

In July 1898, Hannah Rebecca married Fred Stansfield.

Fred took over as beerhouse keeper at the Victoria & Albert, Boothtown [1905].

Members of the family were buried at All Souls' Church, Halifax

[1880-1918] Son of Joe Tasker.

Born in Halifax.

He was a tram car cleaner with Halifax Corporation Tramways [1911] / living with his widowed mother in Grant Street [1911] / a reservist serving in the South African Wars and in India.

During World War I, he was called-up [August 1914], and served as a Lance Corporal with the 3rd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps.

He died of influenza in Salonika hospital [1st October 1918].

He was buried at Kirechkoi-Hortakoi Military Cemetery, Greece [191].

He is remembered on the Memorial at Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance, on the Memorial at Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church, and on the Memorial at Stannary Congregational Church, Halifax.

His death was reported in the Halifax Courier [26th October 1918]

Tasker, William
[1814-1877] Born in Halifax.

He was engineer, pattern maker, and mechanical draughtsman at 55 Pellon Lane and St James's Road, Halifax [1850] / a mechanical draughtsman employing 7 men [1851] / a patent agent / mechanical engineer [1871].

He designed washing and wringing machines and mangles. He exhibited at The Great Exhibition.

Like many engineers, the business evolved into a patent agency. In 1852, he established the West Riding Patent Office.

The business evolved into Appleyard, Lees & Company. Some of his designs may have been taken over by B. Hirst & Sons

In [Q4] 1845, he married (1) Ellen Gooder [1813-1848] in Halifax.

In [Q4] 1867, he married (2) Sarah Cockroft [1819-1889] in Halifax.

Tasker, William
[1822-1874] Of Claremount.

He worked for Francis Berry & Sons, Sowerby Bridge.

In August 1874, he was putting up an iron beam in a building when the beam fell on his hand. He was taken to Halifax Infirmary where it was found necessary to amputate William's forefinger. He never recovered from the shock and died in the Infirmary on 13th August 1874
