Son of John Hoyle Wheelwright.

Born in Soyland.

He was a cotton spinner (employer) [1901] / partner in J. W. Wheelwright & Sons Limited [1907].

On 11th August 1908, he married Ethel Maud Tetley [1883-1976] at Halifax Parish Church.

Wheelwright, Edward Lycett
[1874-1947] OBE.

Son of John Hoyle Wheelwright.

Born in Soyland.

He was a farmer [1907] / partner in J. W. Wheelwright & Sons Limited [1907].

In 1919, he married Olga Mary Bolton [1896-1985] in Skirlaugh, Yorkshire.

During World War II, he served as a Captain with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

They lived at

  • The Lodge, Tockwith [1947]

Edward died at The County Hospital, York [1947].

Probate records show that he left effects valued at £9,259 15/11d.

Administration was granted to his widow Olga Mary Wheelwright and his niece Audrey Lycett Wheelwright.

He and his twin sister, Hilda, were buried at St John the Divine, Rishworth

Wheelwright, Frederick Oscar
[1893-1953] Born in Stainland.

He was a grocer / a grocer at 81-83 Haugh Shaw Road, Halifax [1927].

On 3rd February 1920, he married Edith Ellen Morton [1893-1970] at the Wesleyan Chapel, Stainland.

During World War I, he was mobilized into the West Riding Regiment [25th January 1916].

He was wounded in France [October 1916].

He was discharged [25th March 1919] with the rank of Lance Corporal.

He survived the War, but is remembered on the Memorial at Stainland Wesleyan Chapel. They were living at 81-83 Haugh Shaw Road, Halifax [1927].

He retired to Blackpool.

He died in Preston [1953].

Edith Ellen died in Blackpool [1970]

[1829-1900] Born in Scammonden.

He was a linsey woolsey manufacturer [1881] / a fancy woollen manufacturer at Firth House Mills, Scammonden [1900].

On 19th March 1854, he married (1) Sarah Lumb [1831-1894] at Huddersfield Parish Church.

His father died in 1864. Some time after 1871, his mother and the family emigrated to Australia.

In 1884, he married Annie Jane Horner [1848-1939] in Busselton, Western Australia.

Born in Goolwa, South Australia [22nd January 1890]; birth registered in Encounter Bay, South Australia.

During World War I, he served as a Private with the 5th Battalion Australian Infantry (Australian Imperial Forces).

He died 23rd September 1918 (aged 28).

He was buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery, France [V E 1].

He was a woollen manufacturer [1900] / a woollen manufacturer (employer) [1911] / at Firth House Mills, Scammonden [1928].

On 20th September 1888, he married Clara Jane Whiteley [1870-1947] at St Bartholomew's Church, Dean Head.

Born in Wakefield.

His father died, and His mother married George Firth from Rishworth.

He was a local landowner / Collector of the King's salt duties.

He (probably) never married.

He lived at Goat House, Rishworth.

He bought Clay House, Greetland from the Clay family in 1709-1713 and let it out to tenants.

He died in North Shields [1725].

He was buried at St Helen's Church, Wakefield [30th October 1725].

In his will of 1724,


he established the Wheelwright Charity, he established a school in Dewsbury, left money for building a school at Rishworth, and bequeathed Goat House to be used as a residence for the teachers, matron and children of the school
 

There is a memorial window for him in St John's Church, Rishworth.

There is a memorial tablet for him in Sandal Church, erected by John Atkinson Wheelwright, Archdeacon Charles Musgrave, Major Stansfield, and John Waterhouse.

His daughter were buried at St Bartholomew's Church, Ripponden and their gravestone is fixed to the tomb of Harry Maslen

[1736-1814] Born John Riley, son of Mary Wheelwright and George Riley.

The rules of the family's Wheelwright Charity specified that one of the trustees of the charity who succeeded Wheelwright should be his male heir, or, at least, someone with the surname Wheelwright. This was resolved in the 1750s, when John Wheelwright and George Riley petitioned the House of Lords to change John Riley's name to John Wheelwright to succeed his grandfather as a trustee of the Charity

Born John Hoyle in Rishworth.

About 1817, after the death of John Wheelwright, there was a dispute about who was to succeed him as a Trustee of the Wheelwright Charity. This was resolved in 1826, when John Hoyle changed his name to John Wheelwright.

He was a trustee of the Wheelwright Charity [1826] / a farmer of 60 acres [1851] / a cotton dealer [1851] / (possibly) a partner in the Halifax Commercial Banking Company [1853].

He married (1) Sarah Wilkinson [1791-1843].


Sarah was (probably) the daughter of Benjamin Wilkinson

Mary was a farmer at New York Farm, Soyland [1871].

Living with her [in 1871] were John Mallalieu and family.

Mary died 13th May 1881.

Probate records show that she left a personal estate valued at £6,937 18/6d

[Resworn £7,212 8/6d]. The will was proved by her nephews John Mallalieu and John Taylor of Stubbing Farm, Marsden (farmer).

[1828-1917] Son of William Wheelwright.

Born in Leeds.

He was Manager of Halifax Commercial Banking Company Limited in Halifax [1866] / vicar's warden at St John's Church, West Vale [1888-1889] / a bank manager [1891] / Borough Treasurer for Halifax [1894].

On 1st June 1874, he married Frances Tonge in Scarborough.


Frances was the daughter of James Fletcher Tonge, and widow of Joseph Henry Ogden

He was (possibly) educated at Barkisland Grammar School [1851].

He was a cotton spinner employing 60 hands [1881] / a cotton spinner (employer) [1901] / a governor of Rishworth School / first president of Rishworth Constitutional Club [for 21 years] / (possibly) a member of Rishworth Church. He and his wife were partners in J. W. Wheelwright & Sons Limited [1907].

He succeeded his father as a trustee of the Wheelwright Charity.

In 1871, he married Emily Lycett [1850-1912] in Altrincham, Cheshire.

On 30th January 1834, he married Mary Harriet Dyson at Elland Parish Church.

On 9th June 1853, he married Harriet Esther Maslen at the Church of St Giles & St Mary, Pontefract.
