The Epitaph

on a white and red marble monument fixed to the wall of the north aisle


SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
JOHN CAYGILL ESQR
who departed this life the 22nd of May 1787,
Aged 79 years


Under this stone are buried
the bodies of eight of the
children of Mr John Caygill, of
Halifax, merchant, viz
Ann, buried Sepr 15, 1703.
John, buried Sepr 15, 1704.
Samuel, buried Apl. 28, 1710.
Elizabeth, buried June 7, 1711.
Jane, buried March 12, 1718.
Jane, buried Novr 20, 1720.
Samuel, buried Febr 21, 1721.
Hannah, buried Decr 1, 1725.
and the bodies of
   
Ann his wife buried Sepr 10, 1704.
Martha his wife buried Augt 29, 1744.
   
Here also was buried the body
of the said Mr John Caygill Febr 16, 1757, aged 82.

to the Memory of
John Caygill, Esqr,
who departed this life the 22nd day of May 1787, aged 79 years
   
Here also lieth the remains of Jane Caygill,
widow of the above named John Caygill, Esquire,
who died the 25th of July 1806, aged 81 years.
