- Tuesday, 20th January 1914:
More than 1,000 guests attended the Mayor's reception
and ball at the Victoria Hall, Halifax. The event was said to be
"of great brilliance"
- Tuesday, 3rd February 1914:
First annual meeting of the Halifax Women's Vigilance
Association when a cash balance of £33 5/9d was reported
- Monday, 2nd March 1914:
Mr J. W. Ogden accepted an invitation to contest the
next General Election for Labour in the Sowerby Division
- Wednesday, 11th March 1914:
Mrs Henry Fawcett, the well-known advocate of women's
suffrage addressed a well attended meeting at Sowerby Bridge
- Saturday, 4th April 1914:
The new clubhouse at West End Golf Club opened
- Wednesday, 8th April 1914:
New Halifax sanatorium at Shelf, for the treatment of
consumption patients, opened
- Wednesday, 6th May 1914:
Sir Savile Crossley's offer to provide a
fountain at People's Park, Halifax, was accepted
- Wednesday, 10th June 1914:
A silk banner sent by the children of Halifax, Nova
Scotia, unfurled in the Council School, Boothtown, Halifax
- Tuesday, 16th June 1914:
New three manual organ presented to Elland Wesleyan
Church
- Saturday, 27th June 1914:
Sod cutting ceremony for the new Congregational Church
at Highroad Well, Halifax
- Thursday, 2nd July 1914:
Fountain at People's Park, Halifax, unveiled
- Saturday, 1st August 1914:
Opening of extension to the central premises of Halifax
Industrial Society
- Saturday, 5th September 1914:
Stone laying ceremony at the new Congregational
Church at Highroad Well
- Friday, 11th September 1914:
The Hon Rev Edward Lyttleton, headmaster of
Eton, spoke in Halifax, about "the causes and consequences of the war"
- Sunday, 1st November 1914:
Trooper J. Burke, of Halifax, serving with the 5th
Dragoon Guards, in France wounded after surviving several "hot"
fights without a scratch
- Sunday, 1st November 1914:
Because of the war the political parties in Halifax
agreed that retiring members of the Town Council should be returned
unopposed
- Monday, 9th November 1914:
Alderman W. H. Ingham elected Mayor
of Halifax for the third year in succession. Alderman Robert
Thornton became Mayor of Brighouse for the sixth successive
year and Alderman Robert Jackson started his fourth term as Mayor
of Todmorden
- Tuesday, 17th November 1914:
First arrival of wounded soldiers at Royal Halifax
Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital, Bradford
- Saturday, 28th November 1914:
Military tattoo at Thrum Hall football ground
- Wednesday, 9th December 1914:
Halifax Guardians to buy Craigie Lee
House for use as a children's home
- Sunday, 13th December 1914:
Dedication of a new organ at St Mary's Church,
Cottonstones
- Saturday, 19th December 1914:
Mechanics Institute at Luddendenfoot opened
