Blackley Whit Walk – Ready for the off . . . . the men and
boys of Blackley prepare for their annual Whit Walk (or in this case
ride), around the village

Brigade on Parade – In the days before the National Health Service
the annual Royal Infirmary Gala was an important way of raising
funds for the hospital. In 1927 the Halifax fire brigade joined the
procession through the town

Water Pipeline under way – The construction of Ryburn Reservoir
near Ripponden involved laying a massive pipeline to take the water
to Wakefield. This was the scene in Catherine Street, Elland in
1927 – two years on from the start of the reservoir project
