Dfndt, while being held in the Mtwc County jail awaiting trial on a charge of attempted rape on one Mary Lorenz in Charlestown Township in Calumet county, escaped thru the privy window at the manitowoc jail after on of the bars on the window had been cut. Dfndt held in Manitowoc County because Calumet Cnty had no common jail.
