June 24, 1899
The society event of the season, because of the popularity of the contracting parties, was the wedding of Dr. J. N. Higgins and Miss
Elizabeth Jaekels, which occurred at St. Mary's church in this city, on Tuesday, June 20, at nine o'clock in the forenoon, Rev. Father
Hens officiating. The bride wore a beautiful white satin, with a veil and carried bridal roses. She was accompanied by Miss Margaret
Higgins, who with Colin E. McMullen, best man for the groom, completed the bridal party which was preceded from the vestibule to the
altar by two little flower children, Master Claude Wessling and Miss Clara Flaherty, carrying flowers.
Dr. and Miss. Higgins took the afternoon train for Chicago and other cities for a brief wedding tour and upon their return will begin
housekeeping in the Stephany residence, on Madison street, which is completely furnished and ready for them. They will be home to
their friends after July fifteenth.
