On Friday evening of last week the passenger train on the branch road between Hilbert and Appleton was run into by a freight train near Lake Park station. A Careless brakeman turned a switch to allow the passenger train to back on a spur so that a freight could pass, but neglected to set the switch aright again and the result was that the freight came thundering along at a rate of twenty miles an hour and crashed into the train. Both engines were badly wrecked and cars were piled one on top of the other. Several people ere on each train, among them G. N. Shumaker and H. Verbeck of this city, but no one sustained any injuries.
