Chilton Times April 7, 1866

Another Fire-On Saturday night last a log building belonging to John Paulus, the brewer, was destroyed by fire, together with a set of cooper and blacksmith tools, 40 bushels of wheat, some oats, barley and stoves. My Paulus thinks the building was set on fire, but the probability is that it caught fire from the pipe of some careless smoker. The building had quite a notoriety. It being at one time the home of our present chairman of the County Board, and also of our Co. Treasurer. It was at one time owned by our Member of Assembly, who intended using it as a family residence, but could find no one foolish enough to join their fortunes with him and he finally sold it in disgust.
