The Stepping Stones today
For many years the three remaining stepping stones were situated outside the council offices on the island. Unfortunately they had become damaged and were removed until a more suitable site could be found. The new Canvey Gateway is now their new home very close to their original place in the Creek between Canvey and Benfleet. They have been placed within a walkway over a ditch so that visitors can relive what it was like many years ago when they were the only way pedestrians could get onto the island at low-tide.
