Canada Corner was originally in the Newlands area north of Smallgains Creek it took the form of a stand of trees of Canadian origin. It had been established in the late 50s to acknowledge and thank the people of Cananda for the help they gave to Canvey Island at the time of the flood.  See inset.

In 1984 it was decided that as Canada Corner had all but disappeared that a new Canada Memorial Garden would be established at the Paddocks made up of a marble tablet surrounded by the maple trees.
