I have recently obtained a copy of Scott's Illustrated Guide to Canvey-on-sea, written and illustrated by Ellen E Mann, which was for sale in 1906 for 3d.

The guide is full of stories about the Island and has many photographs I have not seen before.

It is very old and in a bad way therefore some of the photos are not as clear as we would like but well worth a look. Some pages were missing but the Colchester Library came to the rescue with copies of the missing pages.
