Small Gains

The areas called Smallgains Farm were originally Low Marsh and Sunken Marsh. The name ‘Small Gain’ according to Dowd is a derogatory name used generally by farmers to plead poverty. The farm was sold to Frederick Hester in 1897.

Small Gains Creek was part of Oyster Creek and probably named after the farm. It was damned after the 1953 floods. The creek was home to many houseboats some of whom helped with the rescue operation in the floods.
