The photos on this page are contained in a thin, small (6" high by 10" long) photo album that is believed to have belonged to Hubertus B. PRIOR, only child of Nellie May BURDICK and Ward A. PRIOR.  Nellie PRIOR later married Clarence KAPLE, with whom she had a daughter, Audrey.  Hugh Prior was born December 8, 1897 in Almond, New York and died in May 1969 at the age of 72 in Hornell, New York.  Known as Huey by his family and friends, Hugh was a lifelong batchelor, though by no means disinterested in the company of women.  His niece fondly remembers Uncle Huey as having had many girlfriends, some of whom might be reflected in the unidentified photos below.

The photos below appear roughly in the order in which they can be found in the album.  Few, if any, were labeled and many were cut or trimmed with uneven edges and pasted onto the book's pages like rectangular puzzle pieces.
If you have any clues to who some of these people are, please contact me.

My dear spouse wonders why fritter away countless hours fussing with photos of people who bear no direct or discernable relation to me.  Here are several reasons:
  • Because I can;
  • And because I can, I feel a responsibility to;
  • Because there might be a treasure trove of information among these images useful to other researchers that would be found no where else (or so I'd like to think, anyway);
  • Because there may be visual clues or details--however big or small--that prompt visitors viewing the photos to share details, stories, or memories of that time that will be of interest to others;
  • Because I can't help but wonder: if these photos found their way from western New York state to Central Vermont, what photos and other treasures that are precious to me might be tucked away in some far-away boxes?  Perhaps then others will be willing to share their photos, even if they don't know who might be interested.
  • Perhaps visitors to these pages will be able to help identify some of the indiviuals presented here.  For all I know, some of these photos are the only that exist of a particular person at that point in their lives;
  • And, last not but not least, because they're temporarily in my possession, through a complete stroke of good luck, coincidence, and the patience and trust of Linda Hults.
