(Sherry), Joanne (Luciano) DiBlasio, and Sandra. Cherished grandfather
of Christina, Michael, Alexander, Arlene, and Owen. Predeceased
by his mother Janet (Jenny). Survived by his sister Jennie and his
nephew Ian in Scotland. Will also be sadly missed by his dear friend
Corrinne. Friends will be received at the Oakview Funeral Home,

L. CAPELS, 62, of 2136 S. Geddes St., died Friday at Community-General
Hospital after a short illness. A native of Gasport, Capels had
resided in the Syracuse area for the past 60 years. He was a foreman
in the roll department of Crucible Steel Co. of America. Capels
was a member of the Management Club of the Crucible Steel Co. Surviving
are his wife, the former Alice Bidswll [sic–BIDWELL]; two daughters,
Mrs. Patricia A. SUTLER, and Miss Carolyn; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth
Capels; two brothers, Norman of East Syracuse and James; three sisters,
Mrs. Elizabeth STOLUSKY of Albany, Mrs. Helen BARTHOLOMAY of Rochester,
and Mrs. Catherine SPIES of Liverpool; four grandchildren; and several
aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services will be 9 a.m. Monday
at the John C. Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's
Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday
and Sunday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St.

home after a long illness. Mrs. Capels was born in Scotland and
lived in Syracuse since 1915. Surviving are two sons, Norman of
East Syracuse and Frederick J. of Syracuse; three daughters, Mary
STOLUSKY of Guilderland, Helen Bartholomau [sic - BARTHOLOMAY] of
Rochester and Catherine SPIES of Liverpool; a sister in Scotland;
14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services are at 11
a.m. Wednesday at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, the Rev. Tyler
Dudley officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
There will be no calling hours.

services for Frederick James Capels, 62, of 502 Hillside Ave., who
died Saturday at Community-General Hospital, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday
in First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse. The Rev. Calvin Wilson
will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church. Mr.
Capels was employed as a clerk with Conrail in East Syracuse for
43 years and retired in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War
II. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks, Syracuse
United Neighbors and the Bellevue Neighborhood Watch. Surviving
are his wife, the former Marna June SMIDT; four daughters, Leslie
and Lori Capels and Jody BOEHM, all of Syracuse, and Valerie Capel-SHUPE
[sic] of Rutland, Vt.; three sisters, Betty STOLUSKY of Albany,
Helen Bartholomai [sic - BARTHOLOMAY] of Rochester and Catherine
SPIES of Liverpool; a brother, Norman Capels of East Syracuse; two
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Contributions may

died in University Hospital today. Surviving are her husband, Norman

Capels; a son, Joseph Capels; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph MILLER
of Auburn; a sister, Mrs. Vivian SCHOECK of Liverpool, and two brothers,
Edwin and Owen MILLER of Auburn. Services will be conducted at the
DeWitt Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dr. Alfred H. N.
Boutwell officiating of Elmwood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial
will be in Collamer. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

J. WALSH CAPELS, 77, of Deerfield Road, East Syracuse, died Wednesday
[March 14, 2001] at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. She was
born in Syracuse [Onondaga County, NY]. She was a homemaker and
a member of St. Matthew's Church and Eastwood Senior Citizens Club.
Her husband, Norman A., died Feb. 17. Survivors: Five daughters,
Patricia THOMS of North Syracuse, Janet Capels KELLEY and Linda
DRAZEK, both of Liverpool, Ellen CAPELS of Syracuse and Norma DenBLEYKER
of Clay; two sons, David FORD of North Syracuse and Joseph CAPELS
of Colorado; a sister, Margaret CAREY of Auburn; a brother, Edward
WALSH of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Forani & Cline Funeral Home and

Norman A. CAPELS, 82, of Deerfield Road, East Syracuse, died Saturday
[February 17, 2001] at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre.
He was born in Syracuse [Onondaga County, New York]. He retired
in 1980 after 37 years as a truck driver with I. Fleischman & Sons
Furniture Co. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church, a life
member of 101st Airborne Association and a member of Eastwood Senior
Citizens Club. He served in the Army during World War II and led
a parachute squad of the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion
of Normandy. He received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the New
York State Conspicuous Service Cross and the Jubilee of Liberty
Medal from the governor of Normandy. Survivors: His wife, the former
Marion J. WALSH; five daughters, Janet KELLY [sic-KELLEY] and Linda
DRAZEK, both of Liverpool, Ellen CAPELS of Syracuse, Norma DenBLEYKER
of Clay and Patricia THOMS of North Syracuse; two sons, Joseph CAPELS
of Colorado and David FORD of North Syracuse; three sisters, Betty

Thomas CAPELS, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester H. CAPELS of 1219 Carbon
street, was injured fatally late yesterday afternoon when struck
by an automobile as he ran into Hiawatha boulevard east at Carbon
street during the heaviest traffic period of the day. The child
was placed in a car and rushed to St. Joseph hospital where he died
half an hour later. Dr. J. Howard Ferguson, who assisted in the
investigation by James Bennett, coroner's assistant, conducted an
autopsy and reported a crushed chest and fractured neck as the causes
of the boy's death. Norbert Frey of 331 Wayland road, Lynnwood,
driver of the car, picked the child from the pavement, took him
to the hospital and reported the accident at police headquarters.
In his story of the case Frey said he left his home in Lynnwood
at 5 o'clock to drive to the plant of the Muench-Kreuze Candle Co.,
Inc., 617 Hiawatha boulevard east, where he is employed as a night
watchman. He planned to arrive a little earlier than usual he said.
As he approached the intersection of the boulevard and Carbon street,
the boy stepped off the curb and darted into the street. He ran
between two eastbound machines and into the path of the Frey car.
The car struck him and threw him aside before the driver could swerve
away. Frey said traffic on the boulevard, east and westbound, was
heavier than usual late yesterday afternoon and his car was forced
to travel at a moderate rate of speed.

Hit---South Clinton Street Girl Reported in Critical Condition---
One child suffered fatal injuries and a four-year-old girl is in
a critical condition in Onondaga General Hospital as a result of
being struck by automobiles late yesterday afternoon. The dead child
was Thomas Capels, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester H. CAPELS of 1319
Carbon Street, who suffered a crushed chest and fractured neck when
he was knocked down by an automobile at Hiawatha Boulevard East
and Carbon Street. Norbert Frey of 331 Wayland Road, Lynwood, driver
of the machine, picked the boy from the pavement, placed him in
his car and took him to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died a half
hour later. An autopsy was conducted by Dr. J. Howard Ferguson,
who was assisted by James Bennett, coroner's assistant. After taking
the dying boy to the hospital, Frey reported the accident to police.
He said that he left his home in Lynwood at 5 o'clock yesterday

Betty Stroup, 4, of 847 South Clinton Street, was in critical condition
this morning in Onondaga General Hospital where she was taken yesterday
afternoon after being struck by an automobile in front of her home.
The girl was returning to her home after running an errand at a
store across the street. According to Earle J. Marseillaies of 113
Beard Avenue, driver of the car, the child ran into the front of
his machine. He picked her up and carried her to the hospital where
examination revealed she was suffering a fracture of the collarbone
and possible internal injuries. Marseillaies reported the accident
to the police.

Saturday, January 25, 1997, following a brief illness. Helen, beloved
wife of the late Robert GILLESPIE. Dear mother of Jacqueline and
Mario [Venuttiti?] of Gu[?]lph, Elizabeth (Betty) of New South Wales,
Australia and Bob at home. Much loved grandmother of Jennifer and
Robert. Will be sadly missed by her sister Elizabeth SHANKS of Mississauga.
Predeceased by her sisters Jean PARTIDGE and Marion O'BRIEN. Helen
will be remember by her family for her bravery and selflessness.

fondly remembered by those who knew her. Resting at the A. Ray Miller

Sarah, Guilderland. Born in Syracuse, he had lived Albany since
1950. He retired in 1980 as a sales representative for Philip Morris.
He was a member of Knights of Pythias, Albany. He was an Army veteran
of World War II. Survivors: His wife, Mary E. [CAPELS, daughter
of Elizabeth Easton Findlay Capels] of Guilderland; two sons, Robert
of Schenectady and Thomas of Claremore, Okla.; two sisters, Roz
WILKINS and Mickey JERRY, both of DeWitt; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial, Beth
El Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hour, 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the
funeral chapel, 1909 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. Contributions: Hospice
