Services
will be today for MRS. ELSE GUMPERT of the Jewish Home for the Aged,
who died yesterday. Dr. Irwin I. HYMAN, rabbi of Temple Adath Yeshurun,
will officiate at rites at 2 p.m. at the Birnbaum Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Mrs. Gumpert was a
native of Germany, coming to Westvale about seven years ago to make
her home with her daughter, Mrs. Arnold SMIDT. Surviving are a son,
Julius Gumpert of Rehovoth, Israel; two daughters, Mrs. SMIDT and
Miss Thea GUMPERT of New York city; three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Arnold SMIDT, 68, of 112 Lathrop Rd., Westvale, was pronounced dead
on arrival Sunday at State University Hospital. He was employed
by Sears Roebuck and Co. 15 years as a salesman in the appliance
department. Born in Bremen, Germany, Mr. Smidt lived in the New
York City area before moving to Syracuse, where he lived 25 years.
Mr. Smidt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jutta GUMPERT Smidt; a son,
Oliver E. SMIDT of Norwalk, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick J.
CAPELS, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted
at a later date. Arrangements are by the Leitten Funeral Home of
Mattydale. There are no calling hours.

Jutta
C. SMIDT, 91,of 321 Schaffer Ave. died Sunday at Community-General
Hospital. There will be no services. Calling hours will be 1 to
5 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter at 502 Hillside Ave. A
native of Berlin, Germany, Mrs. Smidt came to the United States
in 1926 and lived in Syracuse since 1948. Her husband, Arnold, died
in 1973. Mrs. Smidt was a volunteer for more than 20 years with
the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program . Surviving are a son,
Oliver E. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, June CAPELS of Syracuse;
five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece. Contributions
may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
Greenleaf Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
