E-Mail from a Dr. Dunn of Wichita, KS. In 1996

Received your very interesting message about Dunns in Harrison County, KY. But I’m a bit confused when you say he was in 1850 Census and married to Rebecca Evans.
According to the records of John F. Schunk, Zachary Taylor Dunn married Rebecca Evans in Harrison County in 1875. He appears in the 1850 Harrison County Census as a one-year-old child, son of Fielding Dunn and Jane Coonrod. Harrison County records show that Fielding Dunn married Jane Coonrod in 1836. Fielding Dunn died in Harrison County in 1877. So when you said Fielding Dunn, did you mean his son Zachary Taylor Dunn?
Also, according to my records Fielding Dunn (1808-1877) was the son of Benjamin Dunn (ca 1780-1852) and Elizabeth Henry. Benjamin Dunn was the son of Edmund Dunn (born 1765-1776, died 1818) and Jane (maiden name unknown).
I’ve never been able to connect this family of Dunns to mine, but I suspect they connect. There are so many Dunns in Harrison County, I’ve tried to sort out the various families to figure out just which ones belong in mine! My line goes back to Archibald Dunn, son of Hugh Smith Dunn from Montgomery County, Maryland.

Dear Clark,
Upon going through the records and land grants of Grandpa Zrachery Taylor Dunn’s and Aunt Laura’s Homesteads. If you will notice, Grandpa Dunn’s homestead, issued in 1902 is: "SW quarter of Section 22, Township 22S, Range 27W of (old Garfield County) now Finney County, West of the sixth principal meridian.
Aunt Laura Dunn’s homestead, or land grant in 1904, is: "SW quarter of Section 27, in township 22S, South of Range 26W (Map marked as Range 25W) West of the sixth principal Meridian." In "Hallet Township" in Hodgeman County.
By tracing these homestead’s locations on the Maps of Finney County and Hodgeman County, I find that these two quarters, (Grandpa Dunn’s and Aunt Laura’s) were only about 7 miles apart. Aunt Laura’s in Hodgeman County and Grandpa Dunn’s only 6 miles west and 1 mile north, was in Finney County (then Garfield County). Also, if you will notice that Finney County map I sent you, you will notice that Grandpa Dunn’s homestead was only about 4 miles north of Kalvesta, which as you know, is still there and has two grain elevators, (with service stations), an implement sales and service, a post office, and several homes yet.
I also learned from talking to some of Dodie’s brothers and sisters, that Grandpa and Granny Burdue lived for a year our two on the farm where Shirley & Bob Pfaff (Dodie’s sister) own and live, now. "SW quarter Section 21, Sawlog E, Township 24-S, Range 23-W." That is, 10 miles south and 2 miles East of Jetmore. The girls, Opal and Nola, went to Pleasant View School, which used to be on the highway 10 miles south of Jetmore, but was moved 3 miles south and still stands as a museum at the Warner Ranch on the Sawlog creek, 13 miles south of Jetmore, just mile over in Ford County.
These facts may not be of interest to you, but were to me. I’ll send you more, if I hear, or discover more.

Sincerely
Maurice B. Craighead
