Will of James Swiggett of Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore April 13th 1812~ This Instrument of writing is to be considered as my last will and Testament and being low in helth but of a sound and disposing mind and knowing not how soon I may be done with this Transitory world and wishing to leave my worldly Estate settled, I first of all commend my Soul to God who gave it and my Body to be decently intered and my corpse carried to the eastern Shore of Maryland and deposited in the family Burying Ground. Item 1st I constitute my respected and loving Brother Johnson Swiggett sole Executor of this my last will and Testament . Item 2nd my Estate both personal, real and mixed as well all accounts, Bonds, Bills or notes to be equally divided between my two sons. Item 3rd I further devise that Margaret Arrington receive a reasonable support out of my Estate so long as she shall live. I(n) witness whereof I have affixed my hand and seal as above mentioned and in the presents of the within named Witness(es) James Swiggett (Seal) James Chalmers Baltimore County to Wit, On the
23rd day of April 1812 came James Chalmers, James Bain,
Thomas Knox and John Meeds the four subscribing witnesses to
the aforegoing last will and testament of James Swiggett, late of
said County deceased and solemnly declared and affirmed that they did see
the Testator sign and seal this will that they heard him publish pronounce
and declare the same to be his last will and Testament that at the time of
his so doing __ was to the best of their apprehensions of sound disposing
mind memory and understanding, and that they subscribed their names as
witnesses to this will in his presence at his request and in the presence
of each other.
