I want to greet all of my West Virginia Kin. That consists of EVERYONE who has ever visited Raleigh County, WV, according to my Identical Twin Cousin, Judy E. Since then, we've both been amazed to see the truth of this statement.
My aim is to make available any old family pictures that I've gotten a hold of (AND I hope visitors may have more of these for us all to share), since that's how I think we can all be remembered into the future. The saddest thought is of how many of these old snapshots have been thrown into the trash by present day folks who have no idea that their past is being thrown away, mostly because that face in the picture is unknown to them. Very sad is the story of how our mutual kin, Jake Cottle, took tons of pictures from the 19-teens into the 1940's, and how someone was said to have broken into his home and into a trunk full of pictures. These pictures were either taken or destroyed as of no value. The person had a real fortune in his hands, one I can only imagine, judging by the few copies that have survived.
My husband, Greg, has been dragged all around some fairly inaccessible places, all over southern WV and northern VA. in recent years, as I chase after old family cemeteries, taking pictures at every chance. I should relate that Greg HATES snakes, he REALLY hates snakes. Have you ever noticed how many old cemeteries are a beloved home for snakes? I still avoid referring to some cemeteries or creeks by name, like...oh...Snake Creek.
From time to time we've also borrowed a car from one of our sons, Steve and Gary, when we've gone on the hunt...... Every now and then Greg or I can be heard to say, "Remember when we lost Steve's muffler over there?" or "Hey, that's where Gary's exhaust pipe fell off." All just part of the fun.....
My WV Lines include .....DICKENS, MASSEY, MILLER, WILLS, WEBB, GUNNOE, PENNINGTON, HORTON, BROWN, LAFFERTY/LAVERTY, COMBS, ALLEN, FERRELL, and many more....... My Husband's WV Lines include... WHITE, ELSWICK, FILLINGER, FERRELL, ALTIZER, CHRISTIAN, BROWNING, SCAGGS, MITCHELL, FARLEY, ROBINETTE, ANGLIN, GORE, MOORE and more......
I've come across other pictures that don't appear to be connected to either of us (we ALL know how that can change) and I'd like to make them available to their kin.
So I will say, WELCOME, COUSINS!
