Last Will and Testament of Samuel Bigelow, dated 11 October 1862

I Samuel Bigelow of the Streetsboro Township Portage County and State of Ohio, do make and publish this as my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say

First____It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just & honest debts be fully paid.

Second_____ I give and devise to my wife Elizabeth Bigelow two cows & two Beds and sufficient clothing for the same one cook Stove & cooking utensils for the same and other house hold furniture necessary for House Keeping, and furthermore her legal right of dower to all my real Estate to wit. The use of one third of all my real Estate during her life time and it is my will & design that it shall be so adjusted that she shall release her right of dower on a certain piece of land I own in the State of Michigan in Lenawee County of 88, 78/100 acres of land which land I now value at ($500) five Hundred Dollars; and (one third) of this amount so arranged & made up to my wife out of my real Estate in Streetsboro Ohio.

Third_____ I devise & bequeath to my Daughter Maria Harietta Kimes or her Heirs Eighty-Eight 78/100 acres of land in the State of Michigan in the County of Lenawee and Township of Riga which land I will and bequeath to her free and clear of all incumberances whatsoever.

Fourth_____ I devise & bequeath to my daughter Maryann Smith or her Heirs the Sum of five Hundred Dollars.

Fifth____ I devise & bequeath to my son James the Sum of four Hundred Dollars.

Sixth____ I devise and bequeath to my son Horace the Sum of Four Hundred Dollars.

Seventh____ The Balance of my Property after Paying my funeral expenses & just & honest debts I bequeath to my five children or their Heirs three Sons & two daughters & to be divided Equally amongst them. And I hereby appoint & request that my Son Augustus Bigelow be Executor on my last Will & Testament.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Eleventh day of October AD Eighteen Hundred and Sixty two.
