Horrid Crime - Man Stabbed - Last Wednesday morning our quiet village was thrown into great excitement by the arrival of a man securely hand-cuffed in charge of an officer of Ahnepee, who had brought him here to be delivered in to the custody of the Sheriff for safe keeping. Upon inquiry it proved to be a man by the name of Christopher Weidner a resident of the village of Ahnepee, who had been arrested for the crime of murder, he having on the day previous without any provocation or warning, stabbed a man by the name of Thomas Bacon while at work on the pier, so that he died within a few minutes afterwards.
May 15, 1861Left for Waupun - Sheriff Arendt left here on the steamer Comet last Sunday for Waupun in charge of Christoper Weidner, convicted at the recent term of Court of the murder of Thomas Bacon at Ahnepee in May last; his sentence was hard labor in the State's prison during the term of his natural life, with ten days in each year solitary confinement.
