Search for Passengers Mary & John vol 4 gives entries from parish records as possible clues for his ancestry:
John Ford m Joan Beck 3 Feb 1583, Piddlehinton, Dorset. (12 m east of Powerstoch)
Magalene Ford m William Ford, 8 Jan 1580 Powerstock with West Milton, Dorset
Nycholas Ford m Jelyan Long, 14 Oct 1588, Symondsbury, Dorset
William Forde m Joan Dolinge 8 Nov 1589, Powerstock with West Milton
Powerstock with West Milton is where Thomas married first.

Search for Passengers 4:149 also cites TAG article 16:41, by Donald Jacobus & C Torrey:
Will of a Thomas Forde of Dorchester, Dorset, merchang dated 20 Jan 1610/11, proved May 1611. Maybe uncle of Thomas the emigrant. He was buried at St Peter’s Dorchester where Thomas the emigrant attended Holy Trinity Church. Will lists sister Syssel (Ceily? and others. Names, “Thomas, son of my brother, John Forde” excutor.
This John is most probably father of Thomas; probably the one who married Joan Beck 1580, Thomas, emiigrant, names his first daughter by second wife Joan, but his first wife was also Joan.
“Some sources claim he was son of William Ford of Forde Green, E sussex and Alice Harllilutt, who were married 1569, but this seems too early and connection is unconfirmed”
