MAP SHOWING KOTHEN,GERMANY (relative to Berlin)
We still know very little, other than names and dates about the family in Germany. It is believed that the entire Amelang family comes from within 150 kilometers of Kothen. We now know that Johann Gottfried, his son Johann Peter and his grandson Johann Erdmann all resided in Kothen, that Johann Peter was a day laborer and farmhand, and that Johann Erdmann (his eldest son) was a farmhand/manual laborer. We also know that Johann Erdmann's son, Johann Christoph worked as a journeyman mason, bricklayer, and gardener in Kothen, and that he died in Kothen in 1867. His wife's name was Maria Sophie Dorothe Minsel. She was the daughter of Johann Georg Minsel (a baker) and Katherine Luise Meiling and the granddaughter of farmers/small holders.
