Alvin Grenz, 84, Gackle, North Dakota, died Tuesday, March
3, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.
Alvin was
born November 23, 1924 in Germania township, near Gackle, ND. He grew up
and attended school in the Gackle area. Alvin farmed with his father and
uncle for several years and also worked for the Hide and Fur Co. in
Bismarck, ND. On December 1, 1946, Alvin married Magdalena Kirvida at
Grace Baptist Church in Gackle. They lived on the family farm for a few
years. They rented a farm until 1963, when they purchased and built
their own farm in Germania township. Alvin was baptized on May 30, 1971
at Grace Baptist Church, Gackle. Alvin enjoyed farming, field work and
his Angus cattle. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gackle.
Alvin is
survived by his wife, Magdalena, Gackle; one brother, Marvin (Leah)
Grenz, Gackle; one sister, Geraldine (Walter) Sells, Seashore, OR;
brother-in-law, Marvin Tarnasky, Bismarck, ND; and many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two sons, Alvin, Jr. on
February 28, 1971 and Gerald on August 9, 1998; two brothers, Burt
(Julia) Grenz and Gus (Dorothy) Grenz; and two sisters, Malida (Robert)
Weixel and Mathilda Tarnasky.
Funeral
Service: 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church,
Gackle, ND, with Rev. Tim Blackman officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2009 at
the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND and 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM,
Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church.
Burial: Gackle Cemetery, Gackle, North Dakota

Gerald 'Jerry' James Grenz, 50, Gackle N.D., died from a farm accident
Sunday Aug 9, 1998, in Stutsman County.
Mr. Grenz was born Feb. 23, 1948, at Jamestown the
son of Alvin and Magdalena (Kirvida) Grenz. He attended Gackle Public
School, Gackle, graduating in 1966. He attended Minot (ND) State
University, graduating in 1971. He worked for MDU, Jamestown, for many
years. He married Myra Kay Suko July 31, 1976, in Gackle. He worked for
various construction companies in Fargo, and Wahpeton, N.D., including
Klug & Smith in the 1970s and 1980s. He helped slop up elevators in
Spirtwood, N.D. and Wahpeton. He farmed all his life. He was baptized in
Grace Baptist Church. He attended Ebenzer United Methodist Church,
Streeter, N.D., where he was an usher. He enjoyed reading the Bible,
woodworking, fishing, traveling, riding ATVs, his dogs and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Hannah
Faith Grenz, Edwards, Air Force Base, Calif., and Miriam Joy Grenz,
Rapid City, S.D.; a son Zechariah Job, Gackle; and parents, Gackle.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Jr. in
February 1971.
SERVICES: 11 am. Thursday, Ebenzer United Methodist Church,
Street, with the Revs. Grant Piehl and Harvey A. Motis officiating.
VISITATION: 1 to 9 p.m. Today and 9 am to 9 p.m. Wednesday,
Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.
BURIAL: Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle.

Helen Lang, 86, Jamestown, N.D. died Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Central
Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Helen Remboldt was born May 10, 1913, near
Sydney, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On April 22, 1931,
she married Fred Lang in Jamestown. They farmed in Gackle, N.D., until
1973. He died in 1975. She entered Gackle Care Center in 1994, and
entered the Jamestown nursing home in January.
She is survived by a son, Tyler (Miranda),
Bloomer, Wis.; two daughters, Verola (Lyle) Halvorson, Tucson, Ariz.,
Brenda (Harry) Krause, Alfred, N.D.; a brother, Arthur, Stockton,
Calif.; a sister, Christina DeWitt, Gackle; eight grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren. ...

83, Pioneer Resident Of Gackle, Dies
Gottlieb Lang, 83, pioneer resident of the Gackle community, died Monday
Aug. 5, at the Gackle hospital after being a patient there for two days.
Mr. Lang was born Sept. 24, 1873 at Kassel, Russia. He
grew up and attended school in his native land. Mr. Lang and Miss
Christine Martel were married Feb. 12, 1896. They came to the Gackle
community in 1903 and settled on a homestead one-half mile northeast of
Gackle. They farmed there until 1936 when they retired and moved into
Gackle. Mr. Lang was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in
Gackle, and had served on township and rural school boards for several
years.
He is survived by his wife; and the following children,
August Lang, Jamestown; Adam Lang, Dunseith; Jake Lang, Mold, Wash.; Mrs.
P. B. Wagner (Lydia), Galt, Calif.; Mrs. George Romanski (Ruth),
Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Al Ovick (Esther), Minneapolis; Gust Lang and
Mrs. John Jerke (Leah), Gackle; 16 grandchildren and six great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, six
brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Lang were held today, Aug.8,
in the First German Congregational Church of Gackle. Burial was made in
the Gackle cemetery with Haut Funeral Home of Gackle in charge.

Simon Lang, Gackle, retired farmer, died unexpectedly at his home at 5
o'clock this morning [1947] from a heart attack.
Mr. Lang was born at Kassel, Russia, January 6,
1865, and received his education there. Mr. Lang and Miss Elizabeth
Reich were married in South Russia February 28, 1883. They came to
Stutsman county in 1903 and lived in the county until 1925 when they
moved to Gackle. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Gackle.
Survivors are: his widow and the following sons
and daughters: Mrs. Phillip Meyer and Mrs. Otto Hack, Jamestown; Mrs.
Emmanuel Obenauer, Mrs. August Reich, Medina; Fred, Rudolph, Mrs. Emil
Schweigert, Gackle; Gustav, Alfred and Martha at home; two brothers,
Fredrick and Gottlieb, Gackle. One daughter preceded her father in
death.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday
afternoon at the Congregational church, Gackle, with Rev. Walter
Kranzler in charge. Burial will be taken from the Eddy Funeral Chapel to
the church.

Lang Dies At Gackle Home
Mrs. Elizabeth
Lang, 85, of Gackle, died Sunday evening at her home in that town. Death
was caused by heart trouble and she had been ill for some time.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the
Congregational church in Gackle, Rev. Elmer W. Bettenhausen officiating.
The Eddy funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lang was born in South Russia May 19, 1866, and
was married to Simon Lang, Feb. 28, 1888, in that country. They came to
Stutsman county from Russia in 1903, and in 1925 retired from farming
and moved into Gackle. Mr. Lang died in 1947.
Survivors are nine daughters and sons, Mrs. Philip
Meyer, Fred, Rudolph and Martha and Mrs. Emil Schweigert of Gackle; Mrs.
Emanuel Obenauer and Mrs August Reich of Medina; Gust of Alfred and Mrs.
Otto Hack of Jamestown; 32 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. A
daughter, Mrs. John Harr, preceded her mother in death. |

The funeral for Oscar Remboldt, 80, Gackle, N.D., will be at 11 Thursday
in United Church of Christ Congregational Church, Gackle. Visitation
will be from 9 to 9 today in Haut Funeral Home, Gackle, and one hour
before services in the church. He died Sunday. [January 20, 1991]
Mr.
Remboldt was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Gackle, where he grew up and
attended school. He married Christine Dorr June 1, 1933, in Napoleon,
N.D., and they farmed near Gackle. In 1948 they moved into Gackle, where
he and a partner opened Gackle Packing Plant. They operated the plant
until 1983, when he retired.
He
is survived by his wife; two sons, Delano (Bud), Edina, Minn.; and
Dwight (Chuck), Fargo; two daughter, Rosetta (Mrs. Herman) Gold, Napa,
Calif.; and Suzetta Remboldt, Fargo; two brothers, Edward C., Gackle;
and Reuben, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Netz, Morgan, Utah; seven
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
