Services for Aaron R. Grenz, a Sacramento contractor and real estate broker, will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in Nauman & Son Chapel, 4041 Freeport Blvd. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery. The Sacramento resident died Monday in his Sacramento home after a long illness.
Mr. Grenz, 66, worked for his father, Emil E. Grenz, in the family construction business. He and his brother, Raymond, took over Grenz and Sons construction when his father retired. After building residential homes in Sacramento's Lindale subdivision during the 1960s, Mr. Grenz founded his own firm, Aaron Grenz Construction, and continued building custom homes, apartments and light commercial buildings.
He and his wife of 46 years, Joan, established the Aaron Grenz Real Estate Company more than 15 years ago and his son Rick, later joined him in the construction firm. Mr. Grenz was a member of the Superior California Building Industry Association and Elks Lodge No. 6 and was active with the Salvation Army.
Born in Medina, N.D., one of 10 children, he moved to Sacramento with his family and attended Kit Carson Junior High School and C.K. McClatchy High School. He served with the Merchant Marine during World War II and then worked for Mother's Cakes and Cookies as a driver and retail distributor before joining his father's business.
In addition to his wife, son and brother, Mr. Grenz is survived by his daughter, Laurie of Sacramento; sister Darlene Irvine and Arless Botta, both of Fair Oaks; and brother, Lester and Larrie Grenz, both of Carmichael.
The family requests that any remembrances be made to the Salvation Army, 2550 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento, 95817; Heart Research Foundation, 3900 J. Street, Sacramento, 95827; Mercy Hospice, 9940 Business Park Drive, Suite 165, Sacrament, 95827; or a charity of the donor's choice.
