The funeral for Maggie Aanerud, 64, Ellendale, will be there at 11 a.m. Monday in Christ the King Lutheran Church. She died Thursday.

Maggie Zimmerman was born Nov. 15, 1914 at Ashley and she married Jacob Moser there in July 1936. He died in 1946. She married Julius Gurebele in July 1949 at Ashley and he died in 1964. She married Darrel Aanerud Sept. 15, 1966 at Ellendale.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Mrs Leonard (Esther) Bucholz, Ellendale, Mrs. Darvin (Elizabeth) Goebel, Lehr, Mrs. Elroy (Margaret) Scherbenske, Roscoe, S.D., Mrs. Danny (Mary) Wick, Plains, Mont.; two brothers, Jacob, Ashley, Phillip, Jamestown; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Faith N. Aberle, infant daughter of Ronald and Melissa Aberle, LaMoure, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

She is survived by her parents; grandparents, Scott and Cheryl Ellis, LaMoure, Angie (Brian) Monsebrotten, Grand Forks, N.D., John (Ardis) Aberle Jr., LaMoure; great-grandparents, Norman and Virginia Ellis, LaMoure, Arnold and Opel Nelson, Lisbon, N.D., Ann Zimmerman, Gackle, N.D., Ed Holmstrom, LaMoure; and her great-great-grandmother, Saddie Holmstrom, Gackle.

Visitation: Today from 2-8, with a prayer service at 7:30, in Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure.

Sebastian Aberle, 69, Napoleon, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Med Center One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Aberle was born Aug. 25, 1939, on the family farm near Kintyre, N.D., the son of Joseph and Helen (Mitzel) Aberle. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Benedicta Schatz on Nov. 27, 1965, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in rural Kintyre. They moved to Lodi, Calif., where he worked at the Winemaster’s Guild and was a Cub Scout leader and baseball coach. In 1979 they moved back to rural Kintyre where he ran a dairy farm for 20 years. He retired in 1999 and moved to Napoleon, N.D. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, fourth degree; American Legion; a volunteer firefighter and a St. Boniface Church trustee. He enjoyed woodworking and painting.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ricky (Christine), Guaynabo, Puerto Rico; James (Isela), Laveen, Ariz., and Ronnie, Napoleon; a daughter, Sharon (Kevin) Clark, Anthem, Ariz., his father, Napoleon; five brothers, LeRoy (Carmen), Herried, S.D., David (Judy), Mechanicville, Iowa, Larry (Sue), Glen Carbon, Ill., Steve (Pat), Gerald, Mo., and Joseph (Lorraine), Wishek, N.D.; two sisters, Maria Mitzel, Coalinga, Calif., and Helen (Mark) Frank, Fargo, N.D.; his mother-in-law, Anna Schatz, Napoleon; five brothers-in-law, Gabriel (LaRae) Schatz, Larry (Cheryl) Schatz, Markus (Judith) Schatz, John (Irene) Schatz and Bill Glatt, Bismarck; four sisters-in-law, Frances Sauvageau, Theresa (John) Marquart, Cecilia (Oscar) Nyland and Margaret Schatz; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his father-in-law, Anton G. Schatz; a sister, Adeline Glatt; an infant brother, James; a sister-in-law, Helen Schatz; and two brothers-in-law, Mike Mitzel and Rick Sauvageau.

Albert Ackerman, 57, Cozad, Neb., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Lincoln (Neb.) Memorial Hospital due to heart complications.

Mr. Ackerman was born Sept. 7, 1945, in Streeter, the son of George and Helen (Ehresman) Ackerman. He grew up and attended school in Streeter. He married Cindy Roe on Dec. 21, 1974.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Troy (Jean); a daughter, Lacy; and a brother, Ray.

Services: held Feb. 28, American Lutheran Church, Cozad.
Arrangements by Berryman Funeral Home.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Cozad.

Alma Ackerman, 75, Gackle, N.D., died Monday, March 1, 2004, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Alma Krieger was born March 19, 1928, on the family farm northwest of Gackle, the daughter of Reinhold and Lydia (Rath) Krieger. She received her elementary education at the local rural school, attended Gackle High School for a year and grew up in the area. She married Reuben Ackerman on April 12, 1951, in Gackle. They lived on a farm 10 miles northwest of Gackle until 1966, when they moved to a farm eight miles northwest of Gackle. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter, N.D., and WELCA.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Glenn R. (Elaine), Fargo, N.D.; two daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Lauf, LaMoure, N.D., and Linda (David) Kienzle, Gackle; two sisters, Loretta (Edwin) Suko, Jamestown, and Delores (Melvin) Muller, Gackle; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Robert Pestal officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Edwin Ackerman, 83, Wishek, N.D., died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Ackerman was born Aug, 31, 1923, at the family farm home near Streeter, N.D., the son of Jacob and Katherina (Stroh) Ackerman. He attended the local rural school and graduated from Streeter High School in 1942. He also attended Ellendale (N.D.) College and later taught rural school. He entered the U.S. Army on May 26, 1945, and served during World War II in Germany where he was in office administrations. He was discharged in October 1947 at Fort Sheridan, Ill., with the rank of corporal. He married Alice Bonnet on Oct. 6, 1953, at Streeter. They lived near Streeter until 1966 when they moved into Streeter and purchased the Friendly Bar. He married Veronica Evenson on Aug. 27, 1975, at Rapid City, S.D. They lived in Venturia, N.D., where they owned and operated the Duck Inn Bar until 2004. He entered Wishek Home for the Aged in 2006. He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica; a son, Brad, Williston, N.D., a daughter, Deborah (Jeremy) Krieger, West Fargo, N.D.; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Evenson, Fargo, N.D.; two stepsons, Michael Evenson, Fargo, and Larry Evenson, Sartell, Minn.; two brothers, Elmer (Dena), Litchfield, Minn., and Reuben, Gackle, N.D.; five sisters, Freida Wittmier, Steele, N.D., Helen Fischer, Elk Grove, Calif., Edna (Norman) Niskanen, Mount Iron, Minn., Emma Hins, Jamestown, and Lydia Reich, Minot, N.D.; a granddaughter; and four stepgrandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Chris Hogstad officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church.

Frieda Ackerman, 88, Apple Valley, MN died Saturday December 1, 2007 in the Augustana Care Center in Apple Valley, MN.

Frieda Kubler was born December 23, 1918 in Streeter, ND, the daughter of John Kubler and Eva (Gienger) Kubler. She received her elementary education in the local school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and Alvin Ackerman were married march 26, 1940 in Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Streeter. Alvin and his brother Melvin co-owned Ackerman’s Garage for many years on the outskirts of Streeter. Alvin and Frieda continued to operate the business until 1966 when they moved into Jamestown. They both became employed by the ND State Hospital. He was a mechanic and she was in the Food Services until they retired in 1983. Following their retirement they have continued to reside in Jamestown. Alvin passed away October 17, 1996. Frieda moved to Minneapolis to be closer to her family. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND.

Surviving are two sons, Jim(Jan) Ackerman, Hastings, MN, Bill (Glenda) Ackerman, Savage, MN, 1 daughter, Linda Hofstadter, Apple Valley, MN, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 sisters and 1 brother, Albina Dewald, Lawndale, CA, Elizabeth Dockter, Streeter, ND, Elsie Schulz, Valley City, ND,. Esther (Arnold) Hoffer, Williston, ND, Edwin Kubler, Madison, WI

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Larry; a son-in-law, Ed Spitler; her parents; and six sisters.

Funeral Service will be at 3:00 PM Sunday December 9, 2007 in St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND with Rev. Chris Hogstad, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Streeter, ND
Visitation – 2-3 on Sunday at the Church.

Gale Ackerman, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, May 19, 2006 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Gale Leroy Ackerman was born November 22, 1919 in Jamestown, the son of Myron, Jr. and Alice (Rick) Ackerman. He received his education in Clementsville, ND, northeast of Jamestown. Gale joined the US Army on February 6, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN. He was a Heavy Artillery Section Chief with Company A, 409th Infantry. Gale served in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI.

Gale married Delphine Fode on June 9, 1946 in Jamestown, where they made their home. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator and furnace repairman for Milke Heating & Sheet Metal, and later for Greenwood Plumbing and Heating. Delphine died on September 15, 1987. He married Pearl Hendrix on November 22, 1989 in Jamestown.

Gale is survived by Pearl Hendrix, Jamestown; one daughter, Lynn (Terry) Nieland, Pingree; one son, Dave (Michelle) Ackerman, Jamestown; six grandchildren, T.J. Carr, Carrington, ND, Missy (Keith) Schroeder, Carrington, ND, Matt Nieland, Pingree, ND, Adam (Chandra) Ackerman, Jamestown, Cristal Ackerman, Jamestown, and Alicia Ackerman, Jamestown; six great grandchildren, Hope Carr, Brooke Carr, Bryce Carr, MaKayla Schroeder, Drew Schroeder, and Mya Schroeder, all of Carrington, ND; and one brother, Don (Lucille) Ackerman, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delphine; parents; and one brother, Keith.

Hubert Ackerman, 74, Yelm, Wash., formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Dec. 4, 2006, at Olympia, Wash.

Mr. Ackerman was born Nov. 8, 1932, on the family farm three and a half miles southeast of Streeter, the son of Jacob and Katherina (Stroh) Ackerman. He grew up and received his elementary education in the local rural school. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1953 to July 1955. He married Eileen Hanson on May 29, 1956. They lived in Virginia, Minn., until September 1958. They then moved to Brooklyn Center, Minn. In 1968, they moved to Federal Way, Wash. In 1995, he retired from the Carpenters Union following 40 years in the trade. They built a house at Lake Lawrence, Wash., southeast of Yelm.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Scott (Laurie), Lake Tapps, Wash., and Ken (Kristi), Des Moines, Wash.; three brothers, Edwin (Veronica) Wishek, N.D., Reuben, Gackle, N.D., and Elmer (Dena) Litchfield, Minn.; five sisters, Helen Fischer, Sacramento, Calif., Lydia Reich, Minot, N.D., Frieda Wittmier, Steele, N.D., Emma Hins, Jamestown, and Edna (Norman) Niskanen, Mount Iron, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

Melvin Ackerman, 85, Jamestown, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Ackerman was born Dec. 4, 1924, on the family farm five miles west of Streeter, N.D., the son of William and Barbara (Schmidt) Ackerman. He grew up and received his elementary education in the Streeter area. He married Virginia Moser on July 25, 1945, at Jamestown. They lived on the family farm until 1947. He worked for Streeter Auto, Streeter, and also helped his brother at Ackerman’s Garage, Streeter. He went to work in road construction as a heavy equipment operator from 1949 until 1978. He then worked at the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown, until he retired in 1987. They lived in Jamestown. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed soap making and rummage sales.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ronald (Patti), Salem, Ore.; a daughter, Sandra Ackerman, Medina, N.D.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Bernell Williams, Medina, and Josh Kurtz and Aaron Ritter, both Jamestown.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.

Raymond Ackerman, 75, Mobridge, S.D., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at the Golden Age Rest Home, Mobridge.

Mr. Ackerman was born July 26, 1932, on the family farm northeast of Streeter, N.D., the son of George and Lydia (Klundt) Ackerman. He was baptized on May 10, 1933, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streeter. He received his elementary education in the area where he worked on the family farm and grew up. He married Arlene Hummel on Nov. 20, 1952. He worked for Kenneth Lyne on a dairy farm and also for Ashley Livestock Barn. They moved to Hillsboro, N.D., and he worked on another dairy farm for a couple of years. They moved to Rapid City, S.D., where they lived for 20 years. He worked mainly at Winter Steel making aluminum doors and windows. They moved to Streeter in 1973, and purchased Ackerman’s Bar in 1974. He moved back to Rapid City about three years later, and resided in several other communities. He enjoyed creating things out of wood and metal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, a half brother and a stepbrother.

Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. today, Streeter City Cemetery, Streeter, with the Rev. Chris Hogstad officiating. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.

LeRoy was born on July 29, 1935, the son of Edwin and Christina (Henke) Adam in Streeter, ND. He was raised in Montpelier, ND and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. He furthered his education at Valley City State College. In 1969, he moved to Minot and sold furniture for Tollefson’s Furniture.

In 1959, LeRoy was united in marriage to Hilda Brown in Montpelier. To this union two children were born, Cheryl and Terry. The couple later divorced. On January 10, 1981, he was united in marriage to Beverly Newman in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where LeRoy worked in sales for Colbourn School Supply Company until 1989, when he went to work for Minot Public Schools driving bus. He also owned and operated a small first aid supply business. LeRoy and Bev enjoyed spending their summers at their cabin at the Mouse River Park. In 2007 he left Minot Public Schools and sold his business due to health reasons.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for many years. LeRoy was also a past president with the Minot Eagles Lodge.

Surviving family: Wife, Bev, Minot; daughter, Cheryl (Perry) Colebank, Fort Collins, CO; sons, Gregory (Petra) Baehm, Chuck (Toni) Baehm, Todd Baehm, all of Minot; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Elton (Dorothy) Adam, Langdon, ND; sister, Elenora (Henry) Rogers, Lake Havasau City, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Terry and stepson, Roland "Skip" Baehm.

Mr. Aipperspach was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Tappen, N.D. He grew up and attended school near Gackle, N.D., and later lived in Fessenden, N.D. In 1960 he moved to Carrington, where he operated a filling station with his brother. He later worked as a shuttle driver for Bessette Motors, Carrington.

He is survived by two brothers, Walter (Gerri), Carrington, Elroy (Judy), Langdon, N.D.; and four sisters, Darlene (George) Remillard, Loveland, Colo., Elenora (Wilbert) Weippert, Hendrum, Minn., LaVonna (Robert) Weymouth, Auburn, Wash., Connie (Rodney) Bort, Carrington.

Visitation: Today from 11-8:30, with a prayer service at 8, and Saturday from 9 to noon in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Funeral: Saturday at 2 in Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington.

J. Gretchen (Getty) Albert, 95, LaMoure, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.

Gretchen Christensen was born July 24, 1907, at Deisem, N.D., the daughter of Magnus and Bertha (Bauske) Christensen. She lived with her parents on a farm northwest of Edgeley, N.D., and later moved to a farm southeast of Gackle, N.D. In 1923 they moved to a farm southwest of Jud, N.D. She attended elementary school at Feske School, south of Gackle. She married Ralph Albert on Aug. 24, 1930, in Edgeley. They lived in Jud, where she taught piano, worked as a news correspondent for area newspapers and later worked at the Edgeley Mail Office for seven years. She worked at North Dakota Dairy Products Promotion Commission, Edgeley, as a secretary for 14 years until she retired. Following his death in 1966, she continued to reside in Edgeley until entering St. Rose Care Center.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Linda), White Bear Lake, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Mickey) Albert, Wishek, N.D., and Marie Nielson, Carrington, N.D.; and three grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service both at the funeral chapel.

Harry Lester Aman, age 84, Wishek, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Mr. Aman was born Feb. 14, 1919, at Lehr, the son of Gottlieb and Mary (Lehr) Aman. He grew up and attended school in Lehr. After graduating from Lehr High School, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in California and Washington. He returned to the Lehr area, where he taught rural school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge, he began working in the administrative offices for the Union Pacific railroad and later for Burlington Northern railroad of Great Falls, Mont., and in Whitefish, Mont. He married Joette Kovach in 1952. He retired from the railroad in 1976 and continued living in the Whitefish area until he moved to an assisted living center in Missoula, Mont. In December 1998, he moved to the Gackle (N.D.) Care Center and in October 1999 moved to the Wishek Nursing Home.

He is survived by a son, Randall, Ogden, Utah; a brother, Eugene (Connie), Wishek; two sisters, Gladys Vogel, San Diego, Calif., and Vivian (Richard), Fiechtner, Mesa, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, John Meier, Alta Loma, Calif. and a sister-in-law, Gladys Aman, Big Sandy, Mont.

Services: 11 a.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home Chapel, Wishek, with the Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating.

Alvina W. Ammon, 83, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, in Hi Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Alvina Geiszler was born June 5, 1914, in Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She married Arthur Ammon May 8, 1938, in Gackle. They farmed near Gackle and in 1945 moved to Dawson, N.D. In 1950, they moved to Jamestown where she worked for the Singer Sewing Co. for 15 years. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Evangeline Ronstad, Pittsburgh, Bernetta Guilhot, in Germany; a brother, Wilhelm, Oakes, N.D.; a sister, Anetta Rasch, Ashley, N.D.; and one grandchild. .....

Theodore Ammon, 33, of 1011 South Thirtieth street, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a local hospital. Death was caused by a heart ailment.

He had resided in Billings for the last two years, coming here from Jamestown, N.D.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pauline Ammon, who he married Nov. 21, 1929; three children, Leona, Elroy and Della May Ammon; his mother, Mrs. Theodore Ammon of Gackle, N.D.; three brothers, Otto and Arthur Ammon of Gackle, and John Ammon of Sidney, N.D.; four sisters, Mrs. John [Emma] Fode of Alfred, N.D.; Mrs. Christ [Christina] Zeebe of Medina, N.D., Mrs. John [Anna] and Miss Pauline Ammon of Gackle.

Jonathan Paul "Sparky" Anderson, 54, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, west of Gackle as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 5, 1955, at Gackle, the son of Jalmer and Betty (Schlichenmayer) [Singer] Anderson. He grew up and received his education at Gackle Public School and graduated from Gackle High School in 1974. He attended Northwestern College, Roseville, Minn., for one year and bought the family farm in 1977. He married Shelly Knoblich on July 24, 1987, in Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived southwest of Gackle. Over the years he owned and operated Anderson Feed Lot, Anderson Trucking and Sparky’s Gas and Bulk Service.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Erica, Fargo, N.D., and Lindsay, Gackle; a stepson, Tyler Goldade, Jamestown; his mother; three brothers, William (Carol), Clinton, Mo., Jim, Fargo, and Carlton (Jill), Iowa Falls, Iowa; four sisters, Sheila (Rory) Metz, Alfred, N.D., Jean Titlbach, Prairie DuChien, Wis., Josephine (John) Quay, Sewell, N.J., and Carleen (Gary) Pennington, Lynwood, Wash.

Leonard Anderson, 86, Jamestown, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Anderson was born March 9, 1923, in Cayuga, N.D., the son of Louis and Alvina (Herther) Anderson. He married Lily Brown, who died at an early age. He later married Eleanor Weisser. He worked at The Jamestown Sun, Jamestown. He married Edna Fandrich. They owned and operated various bars in the area.

He is survived by five daughters, Connie (Arnold) Cole, Pillager, Minn., Edith (Ron) Colwell, Sioux Falls, S.D., Pam (Robert) Burchill, Valley City, N.D., Judy (Duane) Yetterboe, Jamestown, and Betty Hehr, Fredonia, N.D.; a son, Gary (Jean), Jamestown; two sisters, Beatrice Herrman, University City, Wash., and Agnes Olafson, Forman, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; an infant son, a daughter, five brothers and three sisters.

Lilly M. Anderson, 88, Valley City, N.D., died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Lilly Marie Beglau was born Sept. 9, 1915, in LaMoure County, near Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Emanuel E. and Olga (Ehman) Beglau. She attended school near Alfred for eight years and College High School in Valley City for two years. She married Dean Anderson on Jan. 25, 1945, in Belleville, Kan. They lived in Valley City, where she worked as a clerk at Ward’s and Pamida. He died Nov. 15, 1979. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Valley City.

She is survived by a brother, Wallace, Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Harriet Erickson, Cheyenne, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Edwin and Ervin; and four sisters, Violet, Leona, Clara and infant Alvina.

Robert H. Anderson, 68, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at his home.

Mr. Anderson was born June 23, 1936, in Fargo, N.D., the son of Edward and Ellen (Campbell) Anderson. They lived in Embden, N.D., until 1949 when they moved to Streeter. He graduated from Streeter High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Sept. 24, 1954, at Jamestown. He served in England for three years until being discharged March, 12, 1958, at Manhattan Beach Air Force Station at Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from Valley City (N.D.) State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. After graduating, he worked in Glasgow Public School system for six years, two years in Streeter Public School system and 32 years in Border Central School system, where he taught science. He retired in May 2002. He then moved to Streeter into his parents’ home. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Streeter, Masons, Scottish Rite and Shrine, the American Legion Brumwell-Gray Post #276, Streeter American Legion, Elks, Eagles and Streeter Lions.

He is survived by two sisters, Doris (Irvin) Stockburger, West Fargo, N.D., Lois (Bernard) Fuchs, Downer, Minn; and a brother, Keith (Ann), College Park, Ga.

Ella was born Feb. 10, 1920 in Streeter, the daughter of John and Magdalena (Graf) Spitzer. She was raised and attended school in the Streeter area. Ella then moved to Bismarck and was employed at the Capitol Lunch Room. She later managed Nicola Café, the Midway Lanes Café and the Capitol Lunch Room for many years. On Nov. 20, 1956 she married Paul Asplund.

Services will be today for former longtime Tracy resident Inez A. (Elhard) Auch, 92, who died Saturday at Bethany Home in Ripon.

Mrs. Auch was born in Terry, Mont., and lived in the Tracy area for 51 years. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Tracy for five decades.

She loved to read, was an accomplished cook and enjoyed crafting. She and her husband, Edward, traveled extensively together, even visiting Hawaii for a year after their retirement to help build a church. Mrs. Auch was also a caretaker, looking after her late daughter Dorene for four years.

Mrs. Auch is survived by her children, Darlene Kallis, and her husband, Walter, of Mott, N.D., Delmar Auch, and his wife, Bobbie, of Ripon and DeAnna Rea, and her husband, Roy, of Manteca; siblings Edna Lanning of Moses Lake, Wash., John Elhard of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Ella Farka of Mead, Wash., Adeline Banttari of Cottage Grove, Minn., Tom Elhard of Galt, Esther Dockter of Surprise, Ariz., and Ruth Hoblitzell of La Pine, Ore.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; a daughter, Dorene Gray; and four siblings.

Today’s services will begin at 2 p.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave. Visitation will also be observed today at the chapel, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be in Tracy Cemetery, 600 E. Schulte Road.

Martha Geigle was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Stutsman County, North Dakota, the daughter of Philip and Lydia (Kuck) Geigle. She attended school in Medina, N.D., and graduated from Gackle (N.D.) High School. She moved to Jamestown and worked at the Jamestown Café. She married Merrild Augspurger on Dec. 7, 1941, at her parents’ farm near Cleveland, N.D.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam (Victor) Egner, Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Gene (Judy), Garland, Texas, and Daniel (Grace), Las Vegas; a sister, Ardena Sund, Cleveland, N.D.; a brother, Donald (Carol) Geigle, Fargo, N.D.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Edwin and Wilbert.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Miriam), St. Cloud, Minn.; a daughter, Linda Martin, Fargo; a brother, Fred (Bertha), Grand Meadow, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Clara Babitzke, 84, Fargo, ND died Sunday morning June 3, 2007 at the Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND.

Clara Hoffman was born March 20, 1923 in Venturia, ND, the daughter of John Hoffman and Emma (Sayler) Hoffman. She attended the local school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and Albert Babitzke were married November 1, 1940 in Eureka, SD. They farmed in the Ashley and Fredonia areas before moving to a farm 6 miles south of Gackle for 1 year. In 1950, they moved to a farm 2 miles south of Alfred where they farmed until moving into Gackle. Following the death of her husband July 29, 2000, she continued to reside in Gackle until she moved to Fargo in 2001.

She is survived by her 2 children, Larry (Miriam) Babitzke, St. Cloud, MN, Linda Martin, Fargo, ND, 2 grandchildren, Theresa and Michael, 1 brother, Fred (Bertha) Hoffman, Grand Meadow, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday June 10, 2007 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Gackle, ND, with Pastor Russ Pollock, officiating.

Hulda Viola (Miller) Babitzke, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went HOME to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Hulda was born near Ashley, North Dakota, on July 6, 1921 to Gottlieb and Pauline (Reich) Mueller. She was the second child of four daughters and two sons.

Hulda left the farm when she was 18 years old and came to Lodi by bus. She stayed with her Uncle John Miller in the home his father had built on Lodi Avenue. He and his wife Marie (Schlabs) Miller introduced her to Aunt Marie's sister's son William Babitzke who'd moved here also from Ashley and worked at Sharpe Army Depot in Lathrop. Hulda worked as a housekeeper for a doctor in Stockton. They were married Sept. 28, 1941 in Stockton and established their home in Lodi. She worked seasonally, packing cherries and fieldpacking table grapes. In 1951 she began working at Stokely Van Camp Cannery (which later became Pacific Coast Producers) and worked there until 1980 when she retired.

Hulda was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Even when dementia began to manifest itself she wanted to help the ladies serve at funerals.

She loved to bake kuchen and cinnamon rolls, and especially loved making candies for the holidays--her English toffee was the best along with divinity, fudge, peanut butter balls, and Queen Anne maraschino cherry balls. She put up pickles and pickled watermelon for her family as well as canning apricots, peaches, cherries and pears in her younger days.

She was the most loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved taking the grandchildren along to Taco Bell for the routine "coffee" with her retired friends at 3 p.m. each weekday afternoon. That was one of the highlights of her day.

Hulda loved sacred music and especially enjoyed watching and listening to quartets once she no longer was able to attend church services.

She was like a child at heart. She loved to do things to make others happy--bake cupcakes, cookies, blachinda, and our German favorites.

She liked to work in the garden and her flower beds. She was always positive, cheerful, generous and kind.

Hulda was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years William Babitzke in 1999 as well as two sisters, Eleanora Goehring and Lydia Meidinger, and one brother, Bennie Miller. She is survived by a sister Esther Nitschke of Fargo, N.D. and a brother Harvey Miller of Bismarck, N.D. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter Connie Schweigerdt and husband Bruce and her son William Martin Babitzke and his wife Kathy. Six grandchildren survive: Stephen Schweigerdt and wife Bronwyn, Shelly Auriemmo and husband Nick, Katy Schweigerdt, Timothy Schweigerdt, Sarah Lee and husband David, and Kelly Babitzke. And we can't forget the three great-grandchildren: Edie Laurel Schweigerdt, Talon Vincent Lee and Sienna Rian Lee. After the death of her youngest sister in 1999, Aunt Hulda became a special person in the lives of her three daughters: Shirley Gunn, Diane Moresco, and Sandy Deutscher.

Hulda Viola (Miller) Babitzke, 88, of Lodi, died May 16. She was born July 6, 1921 near Ashley, N.D.

Mrs. Babitzke worked for Sharpe Army Depot, as a housekeeper, a seasonal worker packing cherries and field packing grapes, and for Stokely Van Camp Cannery (which later became Pacific Coast Producers). She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed baking, canning and gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Schweigerdt; sister, Esther Nitschke, of Fargo, N.D.; brother, Harvey Miller, of Bismarck, N.D.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Babitzke; sisters, Eleanora Goehring and Lydia Meidinger; and brother, Bennie Miller.

Bertha Strobel Banek, 96, Wishek, N.D., formerly Kulm, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Bertha Gall was born June 17, 1911, on her parents’ farm northwest of Wishek, the daughter of Johnan and Magdalena (Lang) Gall. She attended rural elementary school. She was baptized and confirmed in the Worms Congregational Church, Wishek. She married Frederich Strobel on Jan. 3, 1938, at Wishek. They lived in Kulm. He died July 8, 1971. She married Walter Banek on Feb. 15, 1978, at Kulm. They lived in McCaughlin, S.D., until they moved to Wishek in 1993. He died June 24, 1997. She entered the Wishek Home for the Aged in March 2000. She was a member of the Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm.

Leah M. Barthel, 69, Jud, N.D., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at her home near Jud.

Leah Marie Gohner was born Oct. 29, 1932, at the family farm near Jud, the daughter of John and Amelia (Suko) Gohner. She attended school in the Jud area. She married Myron Lucas Moldenhauer March 21, 1954. They farmed near the Alfred, N.D., area for a few years until they purchased her parents' farmstead near Jud. She lived part of each year on the farm. He died March 12, 1992. She continued to farm with her son, Michael, until fall 2001. She married Robert L. Barthel Nov. 25, 1999, at her home near Jud. They divided their time between their homes in Jud, and Muskogee, Okla. She enjoyed farm life, camping, fishing, and hosting family and church dinners.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Michael (Laura) Moldenhauer, Jud; a daughter, Kimberly (Tim) Keyes, Jud; four grandchildren; three stepsons, Robert (Nanci) Barthel, Shawnee, Okla., Randall (Audri) Barthel, Tulsa, Okla., and Roger (Nina) Barthel, New Boston, Texas; three stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Paul (Audrey), Montpelier, N.D., Joe (Phyllis), Alfred, and Jim (Mavis), Jud; five sisters, Laverne Yetterboe, Gackle, N.D., Deloris (Lloyd) Schroeder, Alfred, Mary Ann (Charles) Strobel, Napoleon, N.D., Sharon (Gordan) Schlenker, Jud, and Judy (David) Mickelson, Jamestown.

ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Tiffany Nicole Basol will be 1 p.m. Friday at Zumbro Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Miss Basol, 21, of 2215 22nd St. N.W., a 1997 graduate of John Marshall High School, died of complications of cystic fibrosis on Tuesday (Feb. 15, 2000) at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

She was born Feb. 4, 1979, in Mayville, N.D., and moved to Rochester in 1986. She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church and the local Cystic Fibrosis chapter.

Survivors include her parents, John and Donna Basol of Rochester; paternal grandmother, Dorothy (Basol) Fogel of Mayville, N.D., and maternal grandparents, Andrew and Viola Iszler of Gackle, N.D. Her paternal grandfather preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz Funeral Home and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Bertha Batsch, 93, Jamestown, formerly Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996, in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Bertha Gumke was born June 1, 1903, near Gackle, where she grew up and attended school. She married Edward Batsch Oct. 21, 1921, in Jud, N.D. They farmed near Gackle until 1957 when they retired and moved into Gackle. He died in 1979. She entered the Gackle Care Center in 1991 and in 1995 she moved to Central Dakota Village.

She is survived by seven sons, Raymond (June), Jacob (Lorretta), both Jamestown, Norbert (Opal), Sioux Falls, S.D., Elmer (Doris), Gackle, Marvin, Harvey, N.D., Leonard (Charlotte), Valley City, N.D., Eugene, Minot, N.D.; ...

Jacob "Jack" Batsch, 84, Jamestown, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Batsch was born March 19, 1925, on the family farm south of Gackle, N.D., the son of Edward and Bertha (Gumke) Batsch. He grew up in the area where he worked on the family farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Nov. 10, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served in the European-African Middle-Eastern Theater with the 466th Military Police Platoon. He was discharged Jan. 23, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wis., with the rank of private. He married Lorretta Nitschke on Nov. 30, 1947. They lived on his parents’ farm for one year before buying their own farm west of Gackle where they lived for 10 years. They moved to Jamestown where he was employed by the North Dakota State Hospital for three years. He then was employed by Midwest Motor Express until 1980, when he retired. He was a member of First Congregational UCC Church, Men’s Fellowship group, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Jamestown Eagles.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Bonnie (Terry) Kooker, Linton, N.D.; five brothers, Raymond (June), Jamestown, Elmer (Doris), Gackle, Marvin, Harvey, N.D., Leonard (Charlotte), Valley City, N.D., and Eugene, Minot, N.D.; two sisters, Annetta (Arnold) Schlecht, Gackle, and Doris (Clifton) Hill, Columbia, Mo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin and Norbert; and two sisters, Lorraine and Gertrude.

Lorretta Batsch, 82, Strasburg, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Strasburg Care Center, Strasburg.

Lorretta Delores Nitschke was born May 15, 1927, on the family farm at Jud, N.D., the daughter of Christian and Victoria (Stehr) Nitschke. She attended the local elementary school and graduated from Jud High School. She earned her teaching degree from Ellendale College, Ellendale, N.D. She taught at a country school near Gackle, N.D. She married Jacob H. Batsch on Nov. 30, 1947, in Jud. They lived on his parents’ farm for a year and then bought a farm west of Gackle. They moved to Jamestown in 1958. She worked at Trinity Hospital. He died April 23, 2009, and she moved to Linton, N.D., with her daughter. She entered the Strasburg Care Center on June 4, 2009. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed reading, embroidery and cooking.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Terry) Kooker, Linton; a sister, Edna (Irvin) Kleingartner, Jamestown; a brother, Rudy (Murel), Jamestown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Ted and Richard; and four sisters, Hulda, Bertha, Otellia and Emma.

Mr. Bauer was born Oct. 19, 1920, southwest of Wishek in McIntosh County, the son of Henry and Katherine (Oster) Bauer. He grew up and attended elementary school in the local rural school and then helped on the family farm. He married Ella Ottmar on Oct. 26, 1943, on her parents' farm near Wishek. They lived on his parents' farm and farmed until the fall of 1979 when they moved to Wishek. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda (James) Pritzkau, Sidney, Mont., and Shirley (John) Anderson, Belgrade, Minn.; two sisters, Martha (Elmer) Pfeifle, Lodi, Calif., and Lea Friemarck, San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Harold, Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Ella Bauer, 83, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Ella Ottmar was born Feb. 11, 1920, in McIntosh County, N.D., the daughter of William Ottmar and Martha (Bader) Ottmar. She grew up in McIntosh County and received her elementary education in the local rural school. She helped on the family farm. She married Edwin Bauer on Oct. 26, 1943, on her parents farm near Wishek. They farmed and lived on his parents farm until the fall of 1979, when they moved to Wishek. She worked at Wishek Retirement Home for about three years. He died on July 24, 2002. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, crocheting and being a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (James) Pritzkau, Sidney, Mont., and Shirley (John) Anderson, Belgrade, Minn.; two brothers, Karl (Dorothy), Bismarck, N.D., and Chris (Shirley), Osceola, Wis.; a sister, Emma (Chuck) Hulteen, Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Emelia Rath was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Kidder County, North Dakota, four miles east of Tuttle, N.D., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Spah) Rath. She grew up in the area and received her elementary education in the local rural school and helped on the family farm. She married Christ Bauer on Nov. 4, 1934, at Tuttle. They lived on a farm southwest of Wishek and in 1942 moved to a farm nine miles southeast of Wishek. In 1974 they moved into Wishek where he worked for Raile Implement Co. He died Dec. 16, 1990. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Wishek.

She is survived by three daughters, Evelyn (Wilbur) Elhard, Jud, N.D., Janice (Alvin) Dockter, Great Falls, Mont., and Marvalene (James) Miller, Phoenix; two brothers, Sam (Edna), Tuttle, and Rueben, Minot, N.D.; two sisters, Rose Scherbenske, Tuttle, and Erna Weisenburger, Alexandria, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Freida Bauer, 94, Bismarck, died at sunrise Nov. 24, 2007, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 609 N. 34th St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Winckler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Freida was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Medina, the daughter of Simon and Caroline (Langert) Gruszie. Freida and her husband, Jacob, moved from the farm in Mercer, ND, to Bismarck in August 1963. She worked at Bismarck Tribune, GP Hotel, Bismarck Hospital and, in her later years, she did private home housekeeping.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob Bauer; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Orland Isaak; her son and daughter-in-law, Myron Bauer and Nancy Bogue; her sisters, Beatrice Schrenk and Edna Fisher; three grandchildren, Dean Isaak, Melody Bauer and Aaron Bauer; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Mary Ann; her sisters, Bertha Burr, Magdaline Kreiger, Pauline Munch, Lea Kleiter and Lydia Hertel; and her brother, Ted Gruszie.

Gladys Hein, daughter of John and Christina (Fregien) Hein was born September 14, 1930 rural Dickey County. She was baptized as an infant in a country Congregational Church in rural Dickey County. Gladys attended country school thru the 5th grade and Kulm School thru the 10th grade. She was confirmed at the Kulm Congregational Church by Rev. Remich. Gladys married Lenhart Mund on January 23, 1948 at her parent’s home in Kulm, ND. They farmed 4 miles west of Fredonia on the family homestead. In 1953 they bought a farm 4 miles SE of Fredonia, where they farmed until August of 1968. They moved to Wishek, ND and Gladys began working as a Nurse’s Aide at the Wishek Community Hospital where she worked for 22 years. A short time later she became a part time cook at the Prairie Winds Restaurant until January of 2009. She particularly loved to cook German food. Gladys was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wishek, ND. Lenhart passed away October 31, 1984. Gladys married Otto Bauer May 9, 1987 and Otto passed away May 10, 2000. Gladys moved to the Hilltop Apartments March 28, 2009. Gladys was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Gladys is survived by 4 sons, Del & Ruth Mund; Arlyn & Denise Mund; Curry Mund; Doug & Christy Mund; 3 daughters, LuAnn & Ron Reich; Char & Steve Zachmeier; Anell & Scott Cieslak,; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Loretta & Ron Gall; one step-granddaughter; one sister Esther & Hilbert Dittus. Vernon was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Wishek, the son of John Bauer, Jr. and Marie Bosche Bauer. He was raised and educated in Lehr. Following a stint in the Army, Vernon was employed in California with Triangle Pacific and, later, with Bank of Lodi. Survivors include his wife, two sons and a granddaughter. Services were held Oct. 22 in Lodi. Interment was at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.

Vernon Bauer was born January 18, 1933 to John Bauer, Jr., and Marie Bosche Bauer in Wishek, ND., he passed away peacefully on October 15, 2007 in Stockton, CA surrounded by his family, he was 74.

Raised and educated in Lehr, ND, after graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army where he served with the engineering group. Upon discharge from the Army he worked with Triangle Pacific as a Technician for many years, he then began working as the Courier Manager with Bank of Lodi, a position he enjoyed for over 10 years until his retirement.

Vernon was a member Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post and the Lodi Moose Lodge, he also enjoyed traveling and was able to take many trips over the last few years.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilma Bauer of Lodi, sons: Kenton Bauer and his wife, Cindy of Lockeford, and Glenn Bauer of San Francisco; and his granddaughter, Jillian Bauer of Santa Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Bauer; 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Friends may visit Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and are invited to attend Funeral Services on Monday, 10 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., with interment at Cherokee Memorial Park immediately following.

Arthur H. Becker, 89, Fargo, died Sunday, Nov. 21 at Manor Care in Fargo after a short battle of cancer.

Arthur was born Sept. 20, 1915, the son of Henry H. and Katherina (Kogler) Becker. He was raised on his father's homestead and attended rural schools. Arthur married Lillian Zimmerman May 19, 1940 at Streeter. They farmed south of his father's farm for 25 years. In 1965 they moved to Fargo where he worked for Gold Label Seeds and for Feder Janitorial.

Clayton Clyde Becker, 52, Gackle, N.D., died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Becker was born Jan. 24, 1958, at Jamestown, the son of Theodore and Alma (Deutscher) Becker. He grew up and graduated from Streeter High School, Streeter, N.D. He helped on the family farm northwest of Gackle. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 3, 1977. He served in Germany and was discharged Dec. 12, 1980, at Fort Dix, N.J., with the rank of SP4. He returned to North Dakota where he worked on the family farm. He worked for Craig Dewald on the farm.

He is survived by his mother, Jamestown; a sister, Iva Klose, Jamestown; a brother, Dale Becker, Jamestown; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Becker, Ypsilanti, N.D., and Cindy Becker, Fargo, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Kevin and Harry; and a brother-in-law, Keith Klose.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

MOHALL Dolores Leola Becker, 81, Minot, and formerly of Upham and Mohall, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at her home.

She was born Aug. 31, 1927, near Upham, the fifth child of Ole and Bertha (Laabs) Mickelson. Dolores attended the Deep River No. 1 country school near their family farm, and three years of high school in Upham.

On April 1, 1946, Dolores married Gordon Becker in Bottineau. They lived and raised their family in the Upham area until 1966 when they moved to Seattle. Dolores worked in retail sales at Market Time and Woolworths.

They returned to North Dakota in 1970, settling in Mohall. Dolores was employed at Hill's Department Store, the Mohall American Legion Club and also with daughter, Carolyn, at Cheers to Yah.

Dolores and Gordon moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1991, and worked for three years as the night manager at the Green Acres Funeral Home. They retired to Mesa, Ariz., before returning to Minot. They lived with their daughter, Rita, for two years. Dolores was a resident at Dakota Terrace Apartments, living among many great friends. Our family is grateful for the loving kindness shown to our mother during her illness.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon (2007); daughter, Rita (2006); son, Bradley (1981); her mother and dad; brothers, Irvin, Lloyd and Dalton Mickelson; and sister, Lorraine Mogard.

Edward H. Becker, 92, Jamestown, formerly of Napoleon, N.D., died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Becker was born on Sept. 20, 1915, on the family farm 11 miles east of Napoleon, N.D., the son of Henry H. and Katherina (Kogler) Becker. He grew up on the farm and attended a one-room school through the 8th grade. He married Esther J. Buck on Nov. 28, 1943, in Streeter, N.D. They farmed on his family’s farm from 1943 to 1962. In 1962, they purchased and moved to the Albert Ketterling farm. They retired in 1979. They then moved to Napoleon. She died Nov. 28, 2001. In January 2002, he moved to the Post House, Jamestown. He moved to Central Dakota Nursing Home on April 10, 2008. He was a member of Hope EUB Church, rural Streeter, where he served on the church council. He was also a member of United Methodist churches in Napoleon and Streeter. He served on the Highland School District Board. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, playing cards, reading, baseball and watching TV.

He is survived by three daughters, Joanna Ringrose (Neal Reid), Oakville, Ontario, Elayne (Elroy) Patzner, Jamestown, and Jacqueline (Joseph) Becker, Bismarck, N.D.; four sons, Dr. Garry (Dr. Rita), Gillette, Wyo., Dr. Gaylynn (Linda), Bismarck, Arlynn (Bethany), Napoleon, and AlLynn Becker (friend, Joe DuFloth), Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Lillian Becker, Fargo, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters, Ida Zimmerman and Tillie Lang; five brothers, Arthur and four who died in childhood; and a grandson, Brian Reid.

Esther Becker, 81, Napoleon, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek, N.D.

Esther J. Buck was born Oct. 6, 1920, at the family farm home southwest of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of John and Magdalena (Kaul) Buck. At the age of 6 her mother died and her father married Lydia Remboldt. She attended the local rural school, where she received her elementary education and grew up in the vicinity. She married Edward Becker Nov. 28, 1943, at Streeter. They lived on a farm east of Napoleon. In 1962 they moved to a farm southwest of Streeter, where they farmed. In 1979 they retired and moved into Napoleon. In 2001 she entered Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, and later Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Streeter. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing piano, crocheting and knitting.

NAPOLEON -- Esther J. Becker, 81, Napoleon, died Nov. 28, 2001, in the Wishek Nursing Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Grant Piehl officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Haut Funeral Home, Gackle, with a family service beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Esther was born Oct. 6, 1920, to John Buck and Magdalena (Kaul) Buck near Streeter. Esther's mother died when Esther was six years old. Her father married Lydia Remboldt, who was a loving instant mother to three little children. Lydia and John Buck had seven more children together. Esther was raised on her parents' farm and was educated in a one-roomed rural school. Esther married Edward H. Becker on Nov. 28, 1943, in Streeter. Esther was an active member in the United Methodist Churches in both Napoleon and Streeter.

Esther enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing piano, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to working on the family farm, Esther wrote a Streeter column for the Napoleon Homestead, baked wedding cakes and was a Tupperware dealer. Throughout the years, Esther was an avid volunteer, especially to church and the American Cancer Society.

Esther is survived by her husband, Edward. Esther was a loving mother to three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna Ringrose and Neal Reid, Toronto, Canada, Elayne (Elroy) Patzner, Jamestown, and Jacqueline (Joseph) Becker, Bismarck; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Garry Becker and Rita McConnell, Gillette, Wyo., Gaylynn (Linda) Becker, Bismarck, Arlynn (Bethany) Becker, Napoleon, and AlLynn Becker, Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna Dockter, Wishek, Laverne (Raymond) Rueb, Grand Forks, Cincinette (Oscar) Rueb, Odella (Reinhold) Hauff, Golden Valley, Vivian (Vernon) Hanson, Kintyre, Marlys (John) Grasl, Stevenville, Mich., and Ervin Schauer, Jamestown; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, LeRoy (Alice) Buck and Alida Buck, all of Wishek.

Esther was preceded in death by parents; two siblings, Alvin Buck and Virginia Schauer; and three brothers-in-law, Fred Fandrich, Aaron Rueb and Richard Dockter.

In keeping with her wishes, Esther's body is being donated to science for the furtherment of science at the University of North Dakota School of Science.

Ervin Becker, 90, Jamestown, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, after a short illness at Medcenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Becker was born Aug. 24, 1917, on the family farm in Logan County east of Napoleon, N.D., the son of August H. and Emma (Kogler) Becker. He up in the area, farmed with his parents and worked the beet fields in Montana. He entered the U.S. Army on May 5, 1942. He served in Africa, Sicily and Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 9, 1945, with the rank of tech sergeant after being awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He married Lenora Zimmerman on Dec. 6, 1945, in Streeter, N.D. They worked the family farm south of Streeter until retiring to Jamestown and Mesa, Ariz. He served as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and deacon at Streeter Baptist Church for many years and was a current member of Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed sporting events, reading Louis L’Amour novels and playing golf, cards and games.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Richard (Pricilla), Bismarck, Dave (Arnell), Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Dennis (Holly), Center, N.D.; a daughter, Donna (Gary) Kluthe, Rapid City, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, an infant, Raymond and Clinton; and two sisters, Hilda Jensen and Esther Norling.

Florence Becker, 80, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Florence DynElla Ruff was born Aug. 17, 1929, at Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Gust and Bertha (Nagel) Ruff. She grew up and attended grade school in the Lautt School District and attended Lehr High School, Lehr, N.D. She later taught school in the Lautt School District. She married Wilbert Becker on June 28, 1948, at Lehr. They lived in Lehr where she worked at the Grenz General Store, then moved to Jamestown where she worked at Coulton Grocery Store and Jamestown Hospital. They lived on area farms where she worked as a cook until they moved to Eckelson, N.D., where she cooked at the school, cleaned houses and worked at the café in Sanborn, N.D. In 1974 the local post office was located in their home until 1995 when they moved to Jamestown. She entered St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D., and then Ave Maria Village. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She served as Sabbath School secretary, deaconess, church pianist, Cradle Roll and kindergarten teacher and PTA secretary/treasurer.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Wayne (Connie), Dazey, N.D., and Rydell (Suzy), Valley City, N.D.; two daughters, Myrna Harris, Fountain, Colo., and Lynette (Terry) Didier, Sanborn; two brothers, Floyd (Della), Fredonia, N.D., and Farrell, Bismarck, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Pam; a son-in-law, Dale; two brothers, Freddie and Fillmore; a brother-in-law, Lloyd; and two sisters-in-law, Betty and Mavis.

Gertrude Becker, 83, Jamestown, N.D., died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, near Churchs Ferry, N.D., from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Gertrude Hoffman was born June 12, 1916, near Streeter, N.D., where she grew up and attended school, graduating in 1939 from Streeter High School. She received a teaching certificate from Ellendale (N.D.) College in 1943. She married Roland Becker Aug. 6, 1943, in Streeter. They farmed near Streeter. She also taught in area schools and in Lehr, N.D., and Napoleon, N.D., for 23 years. In 1984 they retired and moved to Jamestown. He died in 1996. She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen (Duane) Enzminger, JoDell (Jerome) Veil, Jeannette (Frank) Redlin, all Jamestown, Ronalda (Greg) Sletto, Willow ...

Harry Becker, 61, Ypsilanti, N.D., died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Becker was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Jamestown, the son of Theodore and Alma (Deutscher) Becker. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Gackle, N.D., and attended Gackle Public School, Gackle. He entered the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He married Linda Kay Thompson on Nov. 15, 1968, in Jamestown. They lived in Ypsilanti. He worked for Stutsman County for 32 years maintaining roads. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Club, all Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kimberley (Glen) Blevins, Rayville, Mo. and DeAnn Feigert, Fargo; a son, Corey, Fargo; his mother, Jamestown; a sister, Iva Klose, Jamestown; two brothers, Dale, Jamestown, and Clayton, Gackle; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Kevin; a brother-in-law, Keith Klose; and his grandparents.

Joseph "Joe" Becker, 75, Napoleon, N.D., died Friday, June 21, 2002, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Becker, was born Oct. 19, 1926, on the family farm in rural Logan County near Burnstad, N.D., the son of Anton Sr. and Alisia (Bitz) Becker. He grew up and attended rural school in Starkey Township near Burnstad. After receiving his education, he continued farming with his father near Burnstad until September 1950, when he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. After his discharge in September 1952, he farmed in the Burnstad area. He married Frances Kuntz on Oct. 14, 1952, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. They farmed and lived near Burnstad until 1979 when they moved into Napoleon. He remained very active with his farming operation. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Bismarck VFW Post #1326. He served on the township board, City Council and the Napoleon Care Center Board. He was a former commander and was gaming chairman for the Napoleon American Legion at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gerald (Barb) and Joseph (Jackie) Jr., both Bismarck, and Thomas (Carrie), Napoleon; three daughters, Jolene (Marc) Patchen and Jacqueline (Robert) Fettig, both Bismarck, and Sharlene (Terry) Porter, Devils Lake, N.D.; six brothers, Peter (Helen), Napoleon, and Leo (Frances), George (Tillie), Anton (Marvie), Paul (Lavata), and Leonard (Carol), all Bismarck; three sisters, Helen (Anton) Schumacher and Betty (Kenny) Schumacher, both Bismarck, and Alice (Jerry) Regner, Burnstad; a brother-in-law, Leo Ibach, Burnstad; 13 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, a great-grandson and a stepgreat-grandchild.

Kevin Kurt Becker, 53, Jamestown, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, from lung cancer.

Mr. Becker was born May 26, 1955, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Ted and Alma (Deutscher) Becker. He grew up and attended school in Streeter, N.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1972 and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on May 23, 1975. He married Rhonda Will in 1978. He worked at Goodrich, Everetts Construction, for Larry Seckerson for 14 years and for Vining Oil Company for 16 years. He married Cindy Fettig on July 15, 2000, in Jamestown. He enjoyed driving trucks, butchering, farming, hunting, camping and fishing.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Amy (Casey) Elhard and Crystal Becker, both Jamestown; his mother; a sister, Iva Klose, Jamestown; three brothers, Harry (Linda), Ypsilanti, N.D., Dale, Jamestown, and Clayton, Gackle; two stepdaughters, Megan Ripplinger, Fargo, N.D., and Chelsea Fettig, Jamestown; a stepson, Levi Fettig, Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

Wilbert "Punch" Becker, 66, Bismarck, died July 9, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with the Rev. Heather Bodwell officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.

Wilbert was born in Streeter Nov. 6, 1940, the son of Henry A. and Katherine "Katie" (Lachenmeier) Becker. After graduating from Streeter High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in order to serve his country. Upon his return to North Dakota, in 1964, he began working for Wold Engineering (formerly Skaar Engineering), where he worked for 43 years, before retiring in May 2006. Following his retirement, he continued to work for Wold Engineering.

Family was always the center of Punch's life. On April 24, 1965, Punch married his sweetheart, Dianne Becker; they had two daughters. Punch's entire life revolved around love for his family and friends. He was an incredible loving husband, father and friend. He will be missed dearly.

Punch is survived by his wife, Dianne, Bismarck; two daughters, Shellayne and Heidi Becker; two brothers, Henry (Elentina), Napoleon, and Leonard (Joann), Bismarck; two sisters, Eldena Rau and Jean (Cliff) Wagner, both of Bismarck; his very special friends, Holly Beck and Billy Futrell; and many nieces and nephews.

Punch was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine "Katie" and Henry Becker; four sisters, Agnes, Annie, Viola and Alice; and two brothers, Roland and Emil.

Melvin Stanley Bedker, 92, Edgeley, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Bedker was born Nov. 12, 1912, on his parent’s farm in Blue Bird Township near Jud, N.D., the son of John and Margaret (Kustenborder) Bedker. He attended the township school and worked with his father on the farm. He married Hada Derry on June 18, 1940, at Edgeley. They lived on a farm south of Jud. In 1945, they purchased a farm west of Edgeley. They retired in 1980 and moved into Edgeley. In 2003, he entered St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Stanley (Donna), Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Gary (Diana), Sacramento, Calif., and David (Donna), Edgeley; three daughters, Eunice (John) Thorenson, Jamestown, Kandas (Darryl) Edwards, Edgeley, and Melody (William) Gewecke, Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister, Mildred Wert, Grand Forks, N.D.; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, four sisters and two grandchildren.

Ervin E. Beglau, 83, Jamestown, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D.

Mr. Beglau was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Alfred, N.D., the son of Emanuel and Olga (Ehman) Beglau. He grew up and attended school at Alfred. In 1937 he entered the Civil Conservation Corp and reenlisted in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 19, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre and was discharged on Nov. 4, 1945, at Camp Grant, Ill. Following the service, he returned to Jamestown, where he worked for the Jamestown Grocery for 2 1/2 years. He married Elizabeth Bates on June 20, 1946, in Fargo, N.D. They lived in Jamestown. In 1949 he started working for Dan Dugan Transport retiring on Dec. 31, 1980, after 31 year of service. She died on May 25, 1984. He married Ella Ketterling Erbele on Oct. 18, 1986, at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. He was a member of the Jamestown V.F.W. Post #760, American Legion and the Jamestown Eagles. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and building his own home.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Beglau; four sons, Richard, Castle Point, N.Y., Gary (Laurie), Lexington, Ky., Michael (Michele), Rio Rancho, N.M., and Daniel, Lexington; a daughter, Donna (James) LeQuire, of Moorhead, Minn.; three stepsons, Bruce (Linda) Erbele, Houston, Texas, Richard (Germaine) Erbele, LaMoure, and Ronald (Ann) Erbele, Hayden, Idaho; two sisters, Harriet Erickson, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Lilly Anderson, Valley City, N.D.; a brother, L. She was born May 24, 1928, in Ashley, N.D., to Frederick and Eva (Reuther) Beglau. She graduated in 1946 from Ashley High School and in 1949 from North Central Bible Institute & Theological Seminary in Minneapolis. She worked in Bremerton for the Arnold Wang Real Estate Company and later for civil service. She retired in 1971. She was a member of The World Wildlife Fund, Bremerton Republican Women and Hillcrest Assembly of God.

Lena Beglau, 92, Valley City, N.D., died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Lena Klundt was born Oct. 1, 1912, at Alfred, N.D., the daughter of John and Bertha (Hermann) Klundt. She attended grade school in Alfred and graduated from Edgeley (N.D.) High School in 1930. She graduated from Valley City State College. She taught school for 32 years in Alfred, Dickey, N.D., and Jud, N.D., and in a rural school near Alfred for four years. She married Edwin E. Beglau on Sept. 12, 1943, at Alfred. In 1945, they purchased a farm near Alfred where they lived until 1970. They then moved to Jamestown. He died in 1990. In 2002, she moved to Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City. She held offices on the school board, Homemakers Club, Alfred American Legion Auxiliary and Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a son, Stephen (Patricia), Billings, Mont.; and a brother, Harry, Oakes, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and three sisters.

Natalia Koenig was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Alfred, where she grew up and attended school. She married Adolph Beglau Oct. 27, 1934, in LaMoure, N.D. They farmed near Gackle. In 1978 they retired and moved into Gackle. He died in 1981. She moved to Gackle Care Center in 1990. In 1994 she entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, N.D.

Pauline Beglau, 98, Jamestown, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Pauline Remboldt was born Aug. 28, 1906, 3 1/2 miles northeast of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John and Justine (Lang) Remboldt. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and later attended Sheyenne River Academy, Harvey, N.D. She grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. She married Gotthilf “Slim” Beglau on Nov. 5, 1928, in Jamestown. They lived on a farm north of Alfred, N.D., for several years before moving into Alfred. In 1940, they moved back to the farm where they farmed. In 1977, they built a house in Gackle. They enjoyed traveling. He died in 1989. She later moved to Jamestown, before moving to Rock of Ages and Roseadele. She moved to Central Dakota Village in January 2005. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Gackle, and later, Jamestown. She was a Sabbath school teacher and enjoyed playing piano, quilting and entertaining.

She is survived by five sisters-in-law, Alma Remboldt, Lodi, Calif., Tillie Remboldt and Florence Beglau, both Jamestown, Donna Remboldt, Granite Falls, Wash., and Rebecca Beglau, Bismarck, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Emil, Aaron, and Art; a stepmother; and a half brother, Erwin.

Jacob Bellikka, 84, pioneer resident of the Gackle-Fredonia community died at Trinity Hospital, Jamestown.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church 10 miles south of Gackle, and burial was in the Homola cemetery. The Haut Funeral Home of Gackle was in charge.

Mr. Bellikka was born Nov. 25, 1978 [1878] in Oululand, Finland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bellikka. He came to the United States in 1886 with his parent who settled near Frederick, S.D. His marriage to Lizzie Lipp [Lippo?] took place Oct 23, 1902, at Frederick, and they homesteaded 20 miles southwest of Gackle in Logan County. They farmed there until 1945 when they moved into Gackle where the home has been since.

He is survived by his wife; eight children, John Bellikka, Minneapolis; Mrs. Esther Homola and Paul Bellikka, Gackle; Mrs. William Lunzman and Arvo Bellikka, Aberdeen; Edwin Bellikka and Mrs. Elmer Kauppila, Brush Prairie, Wash., and Mrs. Harold Lunzman, Fredonia; 49 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hilda, in 1962; a son, Arne killed in action in World War II, and three children in infancy.

Edna Bender, 78, Jamestown, died Aug. 21, 2002, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Edna Lachenmeier was born April 6, 1924, on a farm in Cokato Township. 14 miles east of Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of August and Christina (Becker) Lachenmeier. She grew up in Cokato Township where she helped with cooking, cleaning and washing clothes after her mother was ill, and cared for her brothers and sisters after her mother died in 1935. She married Alvin Bender on Feb. 28, 1943. They lived in Maryland and Virginia while he was in the service and was stationed there. After the service, they returned to the Bender home near Streeter, N.D., where they farmed until retiring in 1966. They moved to Jamestown, where she was held various jobs. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown. She enjoyed her flowers and reading cookbooks.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Dennis) Morlock, Streeter, and Darlene (Leon) Dewald, Jamestown; a sister, Ella (Al) Guthmiller, Jamestown; three brothers, Johnny (Edna), Cleveland, N.D., Art (Denelda), Tappen, N.D., and August (Lorraine), Hardin, Mont.; a sister-in-law, Helen Lachenmeier, Napoleon; a brother-in-law, Christ Schatz, Jamestown; three half brothers, Herbert, Charles and Gerald; five half sisters, Leona, Marjorie, Ruby, Kathy and Caroline; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Alma; three brothers, Albert, Gideon and Willie; four sisters, Christina, Amelia, Lillian and Helen; a half sister, Lucille; and three half brothers, Arnold James, Gary and Walter in infancy.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Mrs. Gottlieb Bender passed away Friday of this week after a short illness at her home northeast of town.

Lucille Bender, 87, Gackle, died Saturday, March 10, 2001 in the Gackle Care Center.

The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wed., March 14 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Lucille Rodman was born October 11, 1913 at Hitchcock, SD the daughter of Joseph Wright and Ada (Wetter) Rodman. She attended the local school where she received her elementary education. She and Rudolph R. Bender were married Sept. 16, 1931 at Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in Hitchcock, where he worked for the bank. In 1938 they moved to Gackle where she worked at A.F. Lehr Co. and 1st State Bank for several years. She was also editor at Tri-County News in 1952.

Lucille Bender, 87, Gackle, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Gackle Care Center.

Lucille Rodman was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Hitchcock, S.D., where she grew up and attended school. She married Rudolph Bender Sept. 16, 1931, in Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Hitchcock. In 1938, they moved to Gackle, where she worked for A.F. Lehr Co. and 1st State Bank for several years. She also worked as editor for Tri News Co. in 1952. He died in 1974. She entered the nursing home in 1999.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Joel (Lynn), Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Donna (Hank) Darmstandler, San Diego, Joan Flaig, Alfred, N.D.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Albert Benson, 84, Woodworth, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, N.D.

Mr. Benson was born July 3, 1916, near Woodworth, where he grew up and attended school. As a young man he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for six months. He then returned to Woodworth, where he farmed. On Oct. 14, 1949, he married Ida Morlock in Jamestown, N.D.

Fred Bentz, 84, Ellendale, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996, in Ellendale Nursing Center.

Mr. Bentz was born Oct. 28, 1911, near Gackle, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He worked for local farmers and at various jobs in Gackle. He entered the Good Samaritan Center, Arthur, N.D., and later the Ashley (N.D.) Medical Center. In 1985, he entered the Ellendale Nursing Center.

Lydia Bentz, 88, Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Lydia Siegle was born June 23, 1909, in Russia. In 1913 she moved with her family to the U.S., where they settled near Medina, N.D. She grew up and attended school near Medina. On Jan. 12, 1933, she married Peter Bentz near Medina. They lived near Gackle, N.D. In 1936 they moved near Streeter, N.D. They returned to near Medina in 1944. In 1970 they retired and moved to Gackle. He died in 1982 and she moved to Jamestown in 1988. She entered Central Dakota Village in August.

She is survived by a son, Elmo (Ardina), Jamestown; a brother, Adolph (Alice), ...

Rebecca Bentz was born Nov. 9, 1909, at Gackle, N.D., the daughter of George and Carolina (Mayer) Bentz. She received her elementary education in the rural school in Neudorf Township, four miles west of Gackle. She grew up in the vicinity, where she helped on the family farm. Mr. Bentz was born April 30, 1965, in Jamestown, the son of Elmo and Ardina (Mayer) Bentz. They lived in Gackle, N.D., and he attended Gackle Public School. They moved to Jamestown in 1976. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1984. He lived in Arizona where he worked for Sandvik Construction. He moved back to North Dakota and worked as a cook at Minerva’s and Kary’s, both Bismarck, N.D., and the Depot and Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery, both Jamestown. He was a talented cook and enjoyed creating new recipes, especially soups. He enjoyed watching "Survivor," "Big Brother" and NASCAR.

He is survived by his parents, Jamestown; three sisters, Angie (Neil) Widmer, Peggy (Bryan) Widmer and Lila (Brian) Baker, all Jamestown; and a grandfather, Paul Mayer, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Lydia Bentz and Bertha Mayer.

Loretta Marie Klinkner was born June 6, 1916, at Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of George and Leona (Schmitz) Klinkner. She received her elementary education in the local school. She married John Berg on Feb. 13, 1943, at Ping Hollow, Wis. They lived in LaCrosse, Wis., where she was a homemaker. In 1959, they moved to a farm southeast of Gackle, N.D., where they farmed. He died Dec. 23, 1974. She moved into Gackle in 1975. In 2002, she moved to Crystal. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Gackle.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald, Riverton, Wyo., George, Dickinson, N.D., and John, Gackle; five daughters, Mary Berg, Rita (Jerry) Schmidt, and Lori Berg, all Coon Rapids; Karen Berg, Minneapolis, Minn., and Charlotte Kuechle, Crystal; four sisters, Edith Chapiewsky, Sparta, Wis., Virginia (Herbert) Leisa, Cashton, Wis., Catherine Anselmino, Joliet, Ill., and Dorothy (Florian) Stremcha, Madison, Wis.; a brother, Leonard (Bernadine), Cashton; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, a brother and a sister.

Alice Berstler, 99, Jamestown, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Alice Mae Berstler was born July 2, 1910, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Edward and Laura (Ueland) Berstler. She grew up in Streeter and graduated from high school in Chisholm, Minn., in 1928. She received her teaching certificate from Valley City (N.D.) State Teacher’s College in 1932. She taught in schools in Logan and Stutsman counties and at Walcott, N.D., for 10 years before moving to Tillamook, Ore., in 1941, where she taught school for 10 years. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Western Oregon State College, Monmouth, Ore., in 1952. She taught in Roseburg, Ore., then at Gilbert Elementary School, Portland, for 20 years. She retired in 1972 and moved to Sequim, Wash. She moved to Jamestown in 1980. She was a member of North Dakota and Oregon Teacher Associations and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Berstler, Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service: 2 p.m., today, Ave Maria Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating.

Alice Bettenhausen was born on November 8, 1921 to Henry and Elsie (Quinlan) Beckman in Baker, Montana, the 4th of 6 children. Her family farmed north of Baker. Following the death of two of Alice’s older brother, Cecil in 1917 and Gerald in 1924, Henry, Elsie, Ernest and Alice moved to Tacoma, Washington. Sadly, Ernest died in 1926 in Tacoma and the family moved back to the family farm in Baker, where Alice’s two younger sisters, Jean and Willa Mae, were born.

Alice grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Baker, graduating from Baker High School in 1940. High School in 1940. Alice loved riding horses and spent a great deal of time riding with her friends and cousins. She and 5 close friends were caught in a blizzard after their car stalled in the winter of 1939. Alice froze both her legs and she delayed going to college for one year while she recuperated. Alice attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo, ND with her good friend Helen (Tunby) Jenson, graduating in 1945. In the fall of 1944, she had met Roy Bettenhausen, who had just returned from Europe and World War II.

Alice and Roy were married in a double ceremony with Alice’s sister Jean and Norm Stenerson on November 3, 1948. Roy and Alice moved to Roy’s hometown, Wishek, ND where Roy built and ran the Wishek Body Shop. Their only son Shane was born on March 9, 1951 in Bismarck, ND.

The young family moved back to Baker in 1955 and Roy built the Baker Body Shop with his brother-in-law Norm Stenerson and Alice worked as a nurse at the hospital; she also served as the Director of Nursing at the Baker Hospital.

Alice retired from nursing in the mid 1960’s, but she never gave up her profession. She spent many years caring for friends and family and served on the hospital board for many years. She and Roy enjoyed many years of traveling to visit family members in California, Washington, British Columbia, and Italy. Alice also enjoyed shopping trips with her sisters Jean and Willa Mae, and later with her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Alice spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments. She delighted in spoiling them and accompanying them on family vacations and many picnics to Medicine Rocks. Alice also enjoyed her coffee afternoons with her good friends Anna Mae, Helen, Sandy and Emily.

Alice died on June 16, 2010. She is survived by her son Shane and his wife Carole and their children Caleb (Brittany) of Missoula, Slade and Darby, both of the family home in Baker, one sister, Willa Mae Flint of Baker, one sister-in-law, Ione Bettenhausen of Wishek, ND, and nieces and nephews.

Alice’s family extends their thanks and gratitude to the present and past staff and employees of the Fallon Medical Complex for their professional and compassionate care they gave to Alice this past five plus years.

WILMINGTON — Edgar George Bettenhausen, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at the age of 70, after a long battle with cancer.

Ed was born in 1936 in Wishek, N.D., to Oliver and Emma Bettenhausen. He was one of 17 children.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Letha Grace Bettenhausen; and sons, Douglas Kent Bettenhausen and his wife, Sandra, of Raleigh, and Kevin Scott Bettenhausen and his wife, Leigh, of Wilmington. He is also survived by three precious grandchildren, Jonathan, Morgan and Allie.

Ed, a graduate of Lafayette College, joined the Army where he was a medic in the 82nd Airborne Division and served for 11 years.

After his military service, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in Fayetteville, working in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, including branch manager. After 25 years in the postal service in Fayetteville, he moved to Southport to assume the assistant postmaster role.

Following retirement from the post office, he went into the building business as a licensed contractor. He was also a licensed real estate broker. Following a short stint of building vacation homes in Long Beach, he moved to Wilmington to help start K&L Service Co.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in Scotts Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Phil Ortego and Jimmie Suggs will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

Howard E. Bettenhausen, 86, Clarksville, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at in Clarksville.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McReynolds-Nave and Larson Chapel with Rev. James Shepherd officiating.

Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, Ky., with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until hour of service Monday at the funeral home. McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Wishek, N.D., son of Oliver Wesley Bettenhausen and Emma Grace Kramer Bettenhausen.

Howard enlisted in the regular Army in May 1939 at Fort Snelling, Minn. His overseas service included Greenland 1942-1944; Europe 1944-1946; Korea 1950-1951. He graduated from parachute school in 1944 at Fort Benning, Ga. He served in the following Airborne Units: 101st A/B, 82nd A/B, 187th Regimental Combat Team, and the 11th A/B. He received several military medals and ribbons including The Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Battle Stars For the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns, and Five Battle Stars for his service in Korea. In 1964, Howard was recognized as 101st Airborne Division Soldier of the Year.

He retired from active duty on August 1, 1969. In his retirement, Howard enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Corrine Albrecht, grandson, Benjamin Bettenhausen.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Brady Bettenhausen, Clarksville; sons, Wendall Bettenhausen, Indiana, Victor Bettenhausen, Florida; daughter, Sharon Patterson, Mississippi; brothers, Charles Bettenhausen, Warren Bettenhausen, Neil Bettenhausen, Edgar Bettenhausen, Oliver Bettenhausen, Larry Bettenhausen, Richard Bettenhausen; sisters, Pearl Wahl, Mabel Larson, Blanche Wetzel, Shirley Kaseman, Gladys Zimmerman, Ella Burr, Muriel Schilling, LaVera Ottmar; grandchildren, Lee Anne Bettenhausen, Lauren Bettenhausen, Dana Jacob, Elizabeth Briggs, Matthew Briggs, Valerie Trommater, Crystal Wolthuis, Caleb Bettenhausen; great-grandchildren, Autumn Wolthuis and Aiden Wolthuis.

Roy was born on October 10, 1919, to William and Albina (Kremer) Bettenhausen in McIntosh County, ND, one of 11 children. At the age of 16 Roy joined the CCC and spent the next few years fighting fires and lumberjacking in Washington and Oregon. In his spare time, he boxed to earn extra money, as all of his CCC money was sent home to his family. He considered professional boxing as a career until the war changed his mind; he joined the army on Feb. 20, 1941. As a member of the Third Division, he participated in 4 amphibious landings: Casablanca, Sicily, Anzio and South France and fought in numerous campaigns: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Goffia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He once remarked that he had not slept in a bed for over 3 years. He was awarded the Croix de Geurre with Palm, Distinguished Unit Citation, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, American Defense Medal and 5 Overseas Bars.

Upon his discharge in 1945, he earned his pilot’s license and enrolled in Auto body school in Fargo, ND on the VA Plan. It was there that he met a beautiful, red-headed nursing student, Alice Beckman, whom he married on Nov. 3, 1948. They moved to Wishek, ND where Roy built and ran the Wishek Body Shop/Standard Gas Station and where their son Shane was born. In 1954, they sold the business and moved to Baker, Alice’s hometown, where Roy built the Baker Body Shop with his brother-in-law Norm Stenerson. Roy stayed busy with his business, re-building two airplanes with friends, camping and fishing on the Boulder and traveling to Anzio in 1979 with Alice and war buddies for a reunion of the Third Division.

Roy sold the Body Shop in 1981 and "retired". He enjoyed fishing and golfing with his buddies Norm, Tom, JK, Otto, Whimp and his grandchildren. Roy also enjoyed woodworking and painting, creating many treasures which he gladly gave away. Roy was a long time member of the ALC Church Choir; he was generous with his time and his love. Roy and Alice spent many hours following their grandchildren’s activities and spending picnics, holidays, and vacations with Shane and his family.

Roy is survived by his wife Alice of Baker, son Shane (Carole) of Baker, grandsons Caleb of Missoula (a member of the ROTC and Army Reserves), Slade, a freshman at Dickinson State University, and Darby of the family home and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandchildren will be forever grateful that they were able to live right next door to Grandpa and Grandma and spend time with them. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, all 10 siblings, brothers-in-law Norm, Buzz Flint, sister-in-law Jean Stenerson and nieces and nephews. His grandchildren will always cherish and remember Grandpa Roy’s saying, "Ready on the left, ready on the right, ready on the firing line, commence firing."

Virginia Bettenhausen, 72, Wishek, N.D., died Monday April 13, 2009, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Virginia Fetzer was born April 5, 1937, at Wishek, the daughter of William and Amanda (Boschee) Fetzer. She grew up and attended rural school in the Wishek area. She married Oliver W. Bettenhausen on Oct. 18, 1957, at rural Evangelical Brotherhood Church, Wishek. They farmed until 1998 when they moved into Wishek. She battled cancer for more than 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Wishek, where she was a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of White Cross, Dorcas Society, Gideon Auxiliary and Homespun Friends Quilting club.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Reggie (Peggy) and Cordell, both Wishek, Kerry (Pamela), Venturia, N.D., and Joel (Karen), Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Valerie (Gary), Hanssen, Kearney, Mo., and Linnea (Jeffrey) Pintur, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada; four brothers, Robert, Wishek, Eugene (JoAnn), Garrison, N.D., Milton (Sherry), Castle Rock, Colo., and Tim (Jean), Shakopee, Minn.; two sisters, Geraldine (Lawrence) Lippert, Williston, N.D., and Lorraine (Roland) Ketterling, Bismarck, N.D.; and 16 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Harley; and a sister, Shirley Teply.

DeLila E. Beyer, 71, Milbank, S.D., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at St. Bernard's Providence Hospital, Milbank.

DeLila Kurtz was born Aug. 8, 1930, at Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Gottlf and Margaretha (Henne) Kurtz. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948. She married Robert E. Beyer on Jan. 8, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. The couple lived in Jamestown until they moved to Milbank in 1973. She worked for 14 years as a deputy in the Grant County register of deeds office in Milbank. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, crocheting, quilting, gardening, leather tooling, and her bulldog, Zeus.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Brenda (Alan) Gengler, Big Stone City, S.D., Sheryl (Mike) Scholten, Valley Springs, S.D., and Kathleen (Mike) Weber, Lawrence, Kan.; three sons, Robert D. (Kerry), Hermosa, S.D., David (Laurie), Revillo, S.D., and James, Milbank; a sister, Vernita Nickell, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Edwin, St. Rose Nursing Home, LaMoure, N.D.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

Lydia Kammerer was born June 21, 1907, in Russia. She came with her parents to the United States in 1911. They lived near Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Nov. 19, 1931, she married Jacob Bier near Gackle. They lived on a farm near Medina. In 1979, they moved to Jamestown. He died in 1986. She continued to live in Jamestown until she moved to Gackle in 1987. She moved back to Jamestown in 1988, and entered Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, in 1993. ...

Violet (Vi) Schadler Bischoff, 74, born Nov. 26, 1924 in Gackle, ND, died Friday, March 26, 1999 of cancer at home in Everett, WA.

Vi was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a secretary for many years in Tacoma. Survivors: loving husband Dr. Robert Bischoff; son Bruce (Susan) of Ogden, UT; daughter Joan Scott (Jim) of Helena, MT; son Donald (Kathryn) of Helena, MT; 8 beautiful grandchildren.

Mark Jonathan Biss, 50, Bismarck, ND died June 10, 2009 after a long hard battle with lung cancer. Mark passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. A pot luck benefit is being held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 14, 2009 at the VFW Hall in Ana-moose. A memorial service will be held at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 16, 2009. There will be no visitation as it was Mark’s request to be cremated.

Mark was born on March 13, 1959 in Fullerton, CA, the son of Herbert O. and Leona (Kubler) Biss. He was raised and attended High School in Anamoose, ND and made his home in Bismarck where he lived until his death. Mark worked in heavy equipment construction for most of his life. He dearly loved North Dakota for its quality of life and strong family values. He loved spending time with his family and also hunting and especially ice fishing with his best friends. Mark was known to be incredibly generous and always put other people’s problems before his own. His love of entertaining others led him to fulfill his passion of playing the guitar during the last few years of his life. He was also a great storyteller and known as the man with the best sense of humor in North Dakota.

He is survived by one brother, Craig Biss (Peggy), of Bend OR, two sisters, Kathryn Hampton-Kiger (Steve), Hesperia, CA and Sandra Anderson (Dave), Edgeley, ND, seven nephews and nieces and more than a thousand friends.

DeLores Bittner, 88, Lehr, N.D., died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

DeLores Straub was born Oct. 2, 1920, at Kulm, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Rosina (Spitzer) Straub. She grew up and attended school in Kulm, graduating in 1938. She married Roy Bittner on June 10, 1942, at West Fargo. After her marriage, while her husband was in the U.S. Army Air Forces, she worked for a while at Bakersfield, Calif., and later in San Pedro, Calif., where she lived with her aunt. After Roy’s discharge in December 1943, they moved to Lehr, where they farmed. In 1954 they bought the Boschee Bar and she became the owner and operator until 1984. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was the pianist for many years, a charter member of the Lehr American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Lehr Thimble Bee.

She is survived by two brothers, Donald, Charlotte, N.C., and Lester, Corvallis, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Harry.

Magdalena "Maggie" (Gienger) Bitterman, age 98 formerly of Streeter N. Dakota died June 3, 2007 in Canandaigua, N.Y.

Maggie was born Jan. 1, 1909 on a farm near Streeter and was the daughter of John and Christine (Schmidt) Gienger. She grew up on that farm and was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Nagel of the Streeter Lutheran Church. She married John Bitterman in 1934 in Napoleon. They farmed in Nortonville with John’s brother for several years, then worked on a dairy farm in Olympia, Washington. John and Maggie then moved to Sacramento, Calif. and worked at Libby’s Cannery there. They returned to N. Dakota and farmed in Medina. They moved to Jamestown in 1958. Maggie worked at the Jamestown Hospital for 16 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown. She moved to Canandaigua NY in 1977 to help raise her beloved granddaughter Belinda.

She is survived by her daughter Burdella Gillern of Canandaigua; granddaughter Belinda Gillern of Philadelphia, Pa.; 2 sisters in law, Irene Gienger of California and Frieda Eissinger of Medina N.D.; caring nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband John in 1971, infant son Randall in 1941, son in law Bill Gillern in 1989 and 4 brothers.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday June 23 at 1:00 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 424 1st Ave. South, Jamestown.
Interment in Highland Cemetery, Jamestown.

Streeter, N.D. - Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church here Wednesday for Mrs. Martha Bitterman, wife of Jake Bitterman, who died at her home here Saturday [9 Jul 1938] afternoon, four ministers officiating. They were Rev. G. G. Thiele and Rev. A. Gehring, who were assisted by Rev. Otto Felberg, Jamestown, and Rev A. Ernel, Wishek. Short services were held at the home at 1 o'clock.

Interment was in the Streeter cemetery. The pallbearers, brothers and brothers-in-law of the deceased, were John, Walter and Adam Schwartzwalter, Adolph Eisenbies, Emil Wieland and John T. Graf.

Mrs. Bitterman was born July 19, 1900, in Kidder county, near Streeter. She was the daughter of Mrs. Christine Schwartzwalter of Streeter, and the late John Schwartzwalter, who died in 1931. She attended the Kidder county schools and was married to Mr. Bitterman in 1923.

Survivors are her husband, her mother, three brothers and five sisters, John, Walter, and Adam Schwartzwalter, Mrs. Mary Eisenbies, Amelia and Lydia Schwartzwalter, and Mrs. Esther Wieland, all of Streeter, and Mrs John (Eva) Graff of Jamestown. She also leaves a foster son, Leon Koch, who had made his home with the Bittermans for five years.

Mrs. Bitterman was a member of the Evangelical church, women's missionary society and the Young People's league.

Rose Bittner, 92, Tappen, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck, N.D.

Rose Schlickenmayer was born Jan. 13, 1918, south of Dawson, N.D., in Kidder County, the daughter of August and Margaretha (Bauman) Schlickenmayer. She was educated in rural schools south of Tappen. She married John Bittner on March 10, 1942, in Steele, N.D. He died April 28, 1974. She was a homemaker and caretaker for her disabled daughter. She taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening and canning.

She is survived by a son, Clarence (Shirley), Bismarck; three daughters, Lenora (Pat) Hansen, Fargo, N.D., Dianne (Jim) Schaffer, Cleveland, N.D., and Gloria (Ron) Mantz, Minot, N.D.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two special friends, Harry and Margaret Mittleider.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three daughters, Linda and infants Sandra and Virginia; her parents; a sister, Lundina Mittleider; two brothers, Gustave and Edmund; a grandchild, Steve Klein; and a great-grandchild, Jayden Baumgartner.

Gotthielf Bitz, 84, Jamestown, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Bitz was born March 30, 1923, in Kulm, N.D., the son of William and Dorothy (Gahner) Bitz. He grew up and attended school in the area. He married Violet Anna Aus on Dec. 30, 1945, in Midway Township, near Jamestown. She died May 31, 1962. He worked at West End Hide & Fur and later Jamestown Sand & Gravel as a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by a son, Roger (Gloria), Jamestown; five daughters, Linda (Mike) Goodwin, Fargo, N.D., Karen (Ralph) Liebold, Edgeley, N.D., Sharon (David) Bivens, Las Vegas, Nev., Patsy Udell, Yuma, Ariz., and Kathy (Paul) Wiest, Jamestown; two sisters, Freda Olson, Fargo, and Rosemary Rockwell, Springfield, Mo.; five brothers, George (Sally), Aberdeen, S.D., Edwin, Glendive, Mont., Henry (Donna), Burley, Wash., LeRoy, Silverdale, Wash., and William, Browning, Mont.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Dennis J. Blaskowski, 63, Richville, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Wyoming Medical Center, Casper, Wyo.

Mr. Blaskowski was born Dec. 18, 1945, in Jamestown, the son of Bernard and Agnes (Anderson) Blaskowski. He attended Jamestown Public Schools. He lived in New Prague, Minn., before moving to Ottertail, Minn. He was a truck driver for most of his life. He married Pauline Barrett on April 16, 1966, in Glen Lake, Minn. He married Patricia Flicek on Oct. 10, 1986, in LeSueur County, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, Richville; four sons, Michael (Laural), Wilmar, Minn., Daniel (Julie) Fergus Falls, Minn., Matthew (Jen Stahl), Ottertail, and Charles, Clitherall, Minn.; six daughters, Jennifer Wesson, Kigali, Rwanda, Africa, Denise Scheer and Sarah Blaskowski, both Wadena, Minn., Suzanne Barrett and Kate Ness, both Battle Lake, Minn., and Victoria Wesson, San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Diane Elhard, Jamestown, and Yvonne Peterson, Brinnon, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The Rev. David Blaskowsky, 92, Gackle, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

The Rev. David Blaskowsky was born Sept. 17, 1910, at Cleveland, N.D., the son of Ferdinand and Catherina (Wolfe) Blaskowsky. He grew up and attended the local school in Cleveland. He married Ida Nachtigall on May 13, 1934, at the home of her parents near Marion, S.D. They lived on farms northeast of Gackle, Stutsman County. In 1939 they moved to New Rockford, N.D., where he served as a pastor of the Church of God. In 1945 they moved to Goodrich, N.D. In 1952 they moved to Gackle, where he assumed the pastorate of the Church of God and served until the early 1970s. Following the closing of the Gackle church, he served as interim pastor at Morden, Manitoba, Canada, and Trenton, North Platte, and Fairbury, all in Nebraska. In April 1979 they returned to Gackle. She died April 21, 1980. He married Clara Reidlinger in September 1981 in Colorado. They lived in Gackle. She died on Jan. 18, 1990. He enjoyed singing, playing guitar and speaking at the care center.

He is survived by two daughters, Twyla Solly, Grand Forks, N.D., and Mary Conrad, Pulaski, Va.; two brothers, Ruben, Vancouver, Wash., and Aaron, Santa Ana, Calif.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives, seven sisters and four brothers.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Rose City Funeral Home for Ruben Blaskowsky, who died Dec. 13 at age 93.

Ruben Blaskowsky was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Cleveland, N.D. During World War II, he was a civilian cook for the Army in Fort Lewis. He moved in 1945 to Olympia, where he was a turkey farmer and cattle rancher and owned Horse Shoe Trailer Lodge for 15 years. He moved to Vancouver in 1997. In 1940, he married Lydia M. Schorzman.

Rose Becker Bohnet, 96, of Lodi, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2009 following a very short stay in a Sacramento hospital.

She was born December 7, 1912 in Lehr, North Dakota to Samuel and Caroline Becker, the oldest of four children.

Upon graduating from high school in 1933, she enrolled for one year in the State Teachers College. In 1936 she moved to Lodi. She attended a business school in Stockton and during WWII she did clerical work at Sharp's Army Depot.

On Dec. 7, 1947 she married Arno Bohnet in Lodi and they made their home on the family ranch south of Lodi. Following Arno's sudden death in 1965, she and her young son moved into town.

Survived by her son, Gary Bohnet and wife, Rayna; step-daughters, Dona Bohnet of Lodi and Arline O'Briant of Poway, CA and brother, Albert Becker of Lodi along with two grandchildren, Mark O'Briant and wife, Julie of Corvallis, OR, Ross O'Briant of Carlsbad, CA, and two great-grandchildren Bailey and David.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Arno of 18 years; sisters, Esther Schill and Alma Merkel, and her parents.

Rose was a long-time member of Temple Baptist Church serving faithfully until her health prevented her from doing so. She served as Deaconess and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for 27 years in the pre-school and primary departments. She also helped during vacation bible school.

Visitation is Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home.
Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Committal is private.

Ermaleen "Erma" Bohrer, 82, Napoleon, passed away October 7, 2007 at the Napoleon Care Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 20 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre.

Ermaleen Hildenbrand was born, December 9, 1925, north of Wishek, the daughter of John and Emma (Lang) Hildenbrand. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in the rural Wishek area.

She and Vernon Bohrer were married on December 17, 1945 in Bismarck. They made there home in Pick City, Bismarck and Mandan before moving to Napoleon in 1966.

FROMBERG—Mrs. Emma Boley, 54 of Fromberg, died at St. Vincent’s Hospital Tuesday [20 Feb 1973].

She was born April 19, 1918, at Pettibone, ND, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Walz. She was raised and educated in Pettibone.

She moved to Glendive in 1936 where she was employed by Montana Dakota Utilities for several years.

Mrs. Boley was married in Miles City on July 7, 1955 to Jesse E. Boley. They ranched near Bloomfield until 1959 when they moved to a farm near Fromberg.

Survivors include the widow(er); a son, Myron Vogele, of 32 29^th St. W.; four daughters, Mrs. Arlene Wiesner of 2627 Poly Drive, Cheryl , Carolyn, and Janet Boley all at home; five brothers, Christ and Jacob Walz, both of Jamestown, N.D., Fred and Rudolph Walz of Pettibone, and Rupert Walz of Sebwaing, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Ted Dalke, of Miles City, and Mrs. Albert Herman, of Pettibone, N.D.; and four grand-children.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Fromberg Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Lane officiating. Burial will be in Rockvale Cemetery, with Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in charge.

Cecilia M. Bonemeyer, 88, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Elim Care Center, Fargo.

Cecilia Bonemeyer was born May 25, 1921, at Fargo, the daughter of Henry and Irene (Haut) Bonemeyer. She grew up and attended Gackle Public School, Gackle, where she received her elementary education. She attended St. John’s Academy, Jamestown, and graduated in 1938. She attended St. Catherine’s College, St. Paul, Minn., where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1942. She taught school at Noonan, N.D., in 1943 for a year until she moved to Plainview, Minn., and taught until 1944. She moved to Two Harbors, Minn., and taught from 1944 to 1946. She moved back to Gackle where she worked at Thompson Lumber Yard. She later moved to Grand Forks, N.D., to work at Irelands Lumber Yard. She later moved to Tacoma, Wash., where she worked as an accountant for Weyerhauser Lumber Company until she retired in 1984 and moved back to Gackle. In 2001 she moved to Bismarck, N.D. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Gackle, and St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

She is survived by two brothers, Maurice (Mary Jean), Fargo, and Philip (Dodie), Alamosa, Colo.; a sister, Monica (Clarence) Niskanen, Seattle, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, GeorgeAnne Bonemeyer, Utah.

Norma Borchardt, 85, Gackle, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, N.D.

Norma Borchardt was born Oct. 3, 1925, near Kief, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Louise (Mueller) Borchardt. She grew up on a farm in Lincoln Valley, N.D. She attended grade school at a country school near Kief and graduated from Drake High School, Drake, N.D. She attended Minot State College, Minot, N.D. She graduated from nurse’s training in 1945, from Trinity Hospital, Minot. She worked as a registered nurse in Bismarck, N.D., and as a private duty nurse in Minnesota and Texas. She lived in Jamestown and in 2001, moved to Gackle Care Center, Gackle. In August 2010, she moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. She enjoyed reading, letter writing and flowers.

She is survived by a brother, Glenn, Billings, Mont.; and two sisters, Evangeline Olson, New Salem, N.D., and Gloria (Ernest) Ensz, Burleson, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Orville; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.

HAZEN -- Norbert Aaron Borth, 77, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Aug. 16, 2003, at Hazen. Norbert had been in the Knife River Care Center since 1995. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Norbert was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Benjamin and Anna (Schultheisz) Borth. As a young boy, he worked at his father's general merchandise store in Gackle, and later Medina. After his graduation in 1944, he joined the Navy and served during the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Medina. In 1947, he married Lydia Hottmann. Norbert and Lydia spent 40-plus years in the retail business having a grocery store in Tappen for seven years until 1955, when they moved to Turtle Lake to own and operate Borth's Department Store. In 1978, they moved to Bismarck, and opened a home improvement store and later had an elderly care business in their home.

Norbert was active in his community, belonging to the Turtle Lake Commercial Club and actively promoting new business in the community. He was a member of the American Legion and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed serving as a lay minister, taught Sunday school and did hospital visitations; giving out lifesaver candy to the patients he would visit. Norbert was a creative person and had a great zest for life and business. He enjoyed making his own signs and marketing items for his business. He took great pride in being a husband and father and he cherished his family, friends, employees and customers. Norbert touched many lives with his friendly personality. He enjoyed people, music, a variety of food menus, fishing, singing, bowling, picnics, barbecuing, sports events, family celebrations and holiday events.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia, Hazen; three daughters, LaDean and Terry Schafer, Linton, Noreen Gabriel, Hazen, and Denise and Nick Nicholas, Crookston, Minn.; special family member, Lee and Betty Peterson, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Tammy and Leo Worner, Fargo, Scott and Laurie Schafer, Fargo, John and Nici Gabriel, Davenport, Iowa, Sarah Gabriel and special friend, Jesse Walcker, both of Bismarck, and Travis, Laura Lee, Michael and Benjamin Nicholas, Crookston; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Worner, and Mariah and Tess Schafer, all of Fargo; two sisters, LorEtta Wiest, Beulah, and Leona and Garhardt Reuer, Medina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold; and two sisters, Violet Speidel and Edna Sukut.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Rosina Borth at the Home Undertaking company in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday, February 15^th at 11 o'clock a.m. Officiating was Dr. Carl O. Pederson. Mrs. Mathias Borth was a former Gackleite, before going there.

Mrs. Rosina (Schaffer) [nee Geigle] Borth was born October 12, 1889 and died unexpectedly of a heart attack on February 12^th at the home of her son, Otto. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathias, who died in 1917 and a son, Ruben. Survivors include two sons, Otto and Herbert, both of Seattle, Washington, and several grandchildren.

Teresa Borth, 84, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Teresa Palmer was born Aug. 11, 1926, at Courtenay, N.D., the daughter of William F. and Mary (Lentz) Palmer. She attended elementary school at the local Corinne School, near Courtenay, and graduated in 1944 from Courtenay High School. She taught in a rural one-room school for four years. She married Kenneth Roaldson and they lived in Wimbledon, N.D. After his death, she remained in Wimbledon. She married M.E. Borth in 1964. They lived in Wimbledon and farmed in the area. He died June 3, 1981. She managed the Korner Inn Cafe and was head cook at Wimbledon-Courtenay School for 25 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon, served on the Prairie View Cemetery Board for 32 years, and the City Council for 12 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, traveling, visiting and playing cards.

She is survived by five sons, Quentin (Claudia) Roaldson, Memphis, Tenn., Gerald (Marilyn) Roaldson, Gackle, N.D., Tony (Linda) Roaldson, Wimbledon, Todd (Jill) Borth, Finley, N.D., and Wade (Lynette) Borth, Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Doreen (Carlos) Borth-Ransey, Dewey, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Roaldson, Fergus Falls, Minn.; a sister, Mary Palmer, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sons, Robert and Gary; her parents; four brothers, Norbert, Carl, John and William; and three sisters, Margaret, Bernice and Roseanne.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon, with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Sunday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lillian Boschee, 88, Wishek, N.D., died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Lillian Koepplin was born Aug. 7, 1920, on the family farm in Arvada Township, Logan County, Lehr, N.D., the daughter of Edward J. and Hilda (Bohle) Koepplin. She attended rural school and Napoleon High School, Napoleon, N.D. She married Gideon Boschee on June 16, 1940, on the family farm. They lived in Jamestown, Lehr and Wishek. She worked as a nurse’s aide in Centralia, Wash., and the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown. She also worked as a clerk at Grenz General Store and Lehr Hardware Store. She was involved at Grace Lutheran Church, Lehr, as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was a member of Thimble Bee, St. Luke Lutheran Church and Wishek Seniors. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting, reading, listening to music, joy riding, baking and cooking.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Cleo C. (Joan), Wishek, Richard G. (Cheryl), Lehr, and James E. (Patricia), Calabasas, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy (Hank Sowerwine) Rogauskas, Kelso, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Darwin Bossart, 72, Jud, N.D., died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Bossart was born July 8, 1934, at Jud, the son of Michael and Dorothea (Rempfer) Bossart.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Kim (Jeff) McPike, Rehoboth, Del.; three sisters, Ida (Lloyd) Flaig, Alvina Nitschke and Irene (Ivan) Gilmore, all Jud; a special friend, Vicki Bossart; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his grandparents.

Helen Bothne, 100, Jamestown, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Helen Boschee was born March 14, 1910, at Wishek, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Rudolph) Boschee. She grew up and attended school in Wishek. She moved to Bismarck, N.D., and worked for Gov. William Langer’s family. She married Elmo Bothne on Nov. 1, 1941, at St. Louis, Mo. They moved to the Chicago area. In 1962, they moved to Miramar, Fla. He died Oct. 1, 1991. She moved to Jamestown in September 1992. She moved to Central Dakota Village in April 2007. In February 2010 she moved to Rosadale, where she celebrated her 100th birthday. On July 7, 2010, she moved to Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and eight sisters.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.

Bertha Brandenburger, 93, Ellendale, N.D., formerly of Kulm, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.

Bertha Louise Miller was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Heil, N.D., the daughter of John and Christina (Esslinger) Miller. The family moved to the Kulm area, where she grew up. She attended rural school and graduated from Ellendale High School. She attended Ellendale Normal College for two years and then moved to California. She returned to the Kulm area and taught rural school near Kulm. She married Ernest Brandenburger on April 14, 1945, in Ellendale. They moved to a farm 18 miles southeast of Kulm. In 1948, they moved to a farm 13 miles southeast of Kulm where they farmed. He died Dec. 14, 1976. In 1978, she moved into Kulm. In 1993, she became a resident of St. Joseph Manor, Edgeley, N.D., and in 1999, of Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm, and DORCAS Society. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Dale (Beth), Rochester, Minn., Larry (Jane), Lino Lakes, Minn., and Donald (Sally), Marysville, Wash.; a daughter, Pamela (John) Hawley, Royce City, Texas; a brother, Herbert, Ellendale; four sisters, Martha Kinzler, Ellendale, Ruth (Lyle) Herman, Fargo, N.D., Esther Schott, Ellendale, and Lydia Brosz, Kulm; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Henry; and a sister, Elsie Nathan.

Donald Oliver Brandt, 84, Hibbing, Minn., died Oct. 26, 2005, at Golden Crest Nursing Home, Hibbing.

Mr. Brandt was born Sept. 29, 1921, at Jud, N.D., the son of Richard and Bertha Brandt. They later moved to Adrian, N.D. He received his education in a one-room schoolhouse at rural Adrian. He married Norma Liedahl of Marion, N.D. They farmed with his parents until they moved to Motley, Minn., where he worked at the Motley Creamery and later at the Morey Fish Co. for many years. She died in 1978. He later lived in Goodland, Minn., and Nashwauk, Minn., before entering the nursing home.

He is survived by a son, Terry Donald, Stacy, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Mattie (Spencer) Brandt, Jamestown, and Lillian (Carl) Brandt, Staples, Minn.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Herbert Wilmer Breitling Jr., 78, Northridge, Calif., died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009.

Mr. Breitling was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Ashley, N.D, the son of Herbert and Hulda Breitling. He graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, in 1948. He enlisted in the Marine Corps. Following his discharge he worked in the movie lighting industry in the Northridge area of Los Angeles. He retired in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; a son, Mike, Phoenix; a daughter, Lori Harley, Northridge; two brothers, Duane, West Fargo, N.D., and Bruce, Dundee, Ore.; two sisters, Marvel Wahrman, Virginia Beach, Va., and Mildred Gums, Lodi, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Elizabeth M. Wacker, daughter of Rev. John J. and Lydia E. (Schweinforth) Wacker, was born on June 20, 1927 at Gackle, ND. She moved with her family to Sidney, Montana, Washington State, Elgin, ND and then Lincoln, Nebraska, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She worked as a secretary and church organist for many years. She was united in marriage with Adam Brehm on June 14, 1947 at Lincoln, NE. They made their home in Indianapolis, IN; Moline, IL; Columbus, OH; and Lancaster, PA; before moving to Fargo, ND. She had worked as church secretary at Plymouth Congregational Church for fourteen years.

Barbara Brendel, 91, Bismarck, N.D., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at St. Vincent Care Center, Bismarck.

Barbara Gross was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Logan County, North Dakota, the daughter of Mathias and Barbara (Schweitzer) Gross. She married Peter Brendel on Sept. 21, 1943. They farmed south of Napoleon, N.D. He died in 1980. She moved to Napoleon in 1980 and later to Bismarck. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, Napoleon. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, cooking and pinochle.

She is survived by four sons, Albert (Patty), Mathias (Betty) and Peter Jr. (Elaine), all Bismarck, and Raphael (Ellene), Napoleon; three daughters, Betty (Clarence) Jahner and Bernie (Blaine) Schock, both Bismarck, and Phyllis (Gene) Meidinger, Wishek, N.D.; a sister, Benedicta Kotta; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, John; and four sisters, Eva Schatz, Elizabeth Aberle, Christine Vetter and Katherine Aberle.

Marian Gienger Brenneise, 72, Jamestown, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, after a battle with breast cancer.

Marian Mary Gienger was born April 21, 1934 in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Paul and Mary (Seidel) Gienger. She grew up in the Streeter area and graduated from Streeter High School. She married Harlyn Brenneise in 1952. She worked at the Streeter post office for six years, Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 18 years and Wal-Mart for 12 years until she retired. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church where she was a deaconess, ministered in the Awana program and was involved with women’s ministries. She enjoyed reading, watching the Minnesota Twins and traveling.

She is survived by a son, Michael (Ronda), Denver; a daughter, Charlotte Wahl, Mahtomedi, Minn.; two sisters, Maggie Mayer, Sacramento, Calif., and Helen (LeRoy) Lang, Jamestown; a brother, Wilmer (Erma), Jamestown; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Wade Wahl; four brothers, Peter, Jacob, Paul and Jake; and two sisters, Louise Dockter and Pauline Wood.

Alexzine Lydine Brooks, 82, Minot, died Monday, November 3, 2008 in a Great Falls, MT extended care center following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Alexzine was born on May 5, 1926 in Napoleon to Otto and Martha (Brenneise) Grenz. She was raised in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High School. She attended Bethel University in St. Paul, MN and was employed at Neighborhood House, a home for under privileged children in St. Paul. She moved to Jamestown and was employed at the Anne Carlsen Center.

In 1953 she continued her education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI where she earned her degree in social work with a minor in special education. Also, she attended the Howard Rusk Institute of Medecine and Rehabilitation in New York City. She returned to the Anne Carlsen Center as a social worker before moving to Minot in 1954 to accept a job as District Supervisor in the Minot office of the State of North Dakota Vocational Rehabilitation. Alexzine married Robert Brooks on December 11, 1959 at Minot. They made their home near Burlington where they owned and operated Brooks Ranch.

Alexzine Lydine Brooks, 82, Minot, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in a Great Falls, Mont., extended care center following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Alexzine was born May 5, 1926, in Napoleon, to Otto and Martha (Brenneise) Grenz. She was raised in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High School. She attended Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., and was employed at Neighborhood House, a home for underprivileged children in St. Paul. She moved to Jamestown and was employed at the Anne Carlsen Center. In 1953, she continued her education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, where she earned her degree in social work with a minor in special education. Also, she attended the Howard Rusk Institute of Medicine and Rehabilitation in New York City. She returned to the Anne Carlsen Center for Children as a social worker before moving to Minot in 1954 to accept a job as district supervisor in the Minot office of the State of North Dakota Vocational Rehabilitation.

Alexzine married Robert Brooks on Dec. 11, 1959, at Minot. They made their home near Burlington, where they owned and operated Brooks Ranch. She adjusted quickly and loved life on the ranch. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother she used her social work degree through her involvement on the Board of Directors of the Minot Vocational Workshop and the Shut-In Ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church. She began struggling with Alzheimer's disease during the mid-1990s and was cared for in her home by her loving husband until June 2008, when she moved to Great Falls, where she resided at Benefis Extended Care Center.

Alexzine was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served on the Board of Christian Education, served as a deaconess, blessed many of the elderly and shut-in members with her visits and was a member of the ladies organization. She served as president of the North Dakota Cattlewomen and established the "Taste of Minot," a fundraising activity that benefited the Minot High School music program.

Alexzine's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She found joy in serving others and shared the love of God with everyone around her. It was also very important to her to pass on her faith to her children and grandchildren. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, serving her husband and girls day in and day out. Most of all she loved the Lord and her life was a testimony for Him.

Alexzine's loving family includes: her husband of 49 years, Robert; daughters, Lisa (Troy) Lindquist of Great Falls, Candy Brooks (Duane Tofteland) of rural Minot and Becky (Ron) Nelson of Great Falls; and four grandchildren who were the love of her life, Kelsey, Brooks, Connor and Allie.

A celebration of Alexzine's life: Will be on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
There will be no reviewal or visitation.

Dwight Alan Brooks, 43, Jamestown, N.D., died Friday, July 2, 1999, in his home.

Mr. Brooks was born Jan. 14, 1956, in Gackle, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Cleveland, N.D. He then worked for the Knetter Cheese Plant, Medina, N.D., until 1977. He entered the U.S. Army that year, receiving his GED and working as an electrical equipment machinist. He served two years overseas before his military discharge in 1980. He worked for Wedgcor Manufactory and later for Duratech, both Jamestown. On July 22, 1989, he married Virginia Dockter, and they lived in Jamestown.

Albert Brost, 100, Kulm, N.D., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at the Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale, N.D.

Mr. Brost was born Dec. 9, 1905, at Wirch, N.D., the son of John and Elizabeth (Rutschke) Brost. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Kulm. He farmed in the Kulm and McGlaughlin, S.D., areas until 1936 when he moved to Montana to work. He returned to the Kulm area in 1941 to farm. He retired in 1968 and then spent winters in New Mexico and summers in Kulm.

He is survived by a brother, Ben, Portland, Tenn.; and two sisters, Emily Audrain, Fallon, Nev., and Hilda Husted, Glendale, Calif.

Mr. Brosz was born at the home farm in German Township Dickey County south of Kulm, ND, the son of John and Emily (Haase) Brosz. He attended rural school through eighth grade. He attended Kulm High School, graduating as an honor student in 1942. He attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, then returned home to help his parents on the farm. Art was a member of Hoffnungsfeldt Congregational Church near their farm. He was Sunday School Superintendent, Lay Leader and sang in the choir. He was manager of the Whitestone Battlefield Baseball team. He married Betty Lou Krueger on June 17, 1951. They remained on the Brosz farm until 1957 when the family moved to Lead, SD where Art worked in the Homestake Gold Mine. The family moved to Jamestown in 1958. Art worked for Agsco Co., then he worked for Al Leapaldt Construction Co. where he was the foreman. He retired in 1990. After retirement Art continued using his carpentry skills with many projects, including an addition to their home. Art was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown. He loved the Lord and doing work in his church, serving as church treasurer, administrative board chairman and delegate to the annual conference. Art was active with Boy Scout Troop 100. Art was also active in the Germans from Russia Heritage Society, serving as a board member of the International Board and president and board member of the local James Valley chapter. He also sang with the German Heritage Singers which was organized in the Brosz home. Art enjoyed being outdoors especially nurturing their roses and garden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and other activities with his children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed reading and watching sporting events. Art and Betty loved traveling, taking trips to the Holy Land, Germany, Florida, Arizona and many other places.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Betty; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Wayne, Jamestown; son Timothy (Lynda) Brosz, Bismarck; daughter Roxane (Russ) Madio, Florida; six grandchildren, Justin & Chelsey Wayne, Kristi Brosz, Christopher, Jordan & Alexander Madio; one sister-in-law, Lydia Brosz; godchild Cathy Borgie; niece, Sherri Christensen and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edwin & Adolph and sister, Annie Christensen.

Edmund Emil Brosz, 74, Edgeley, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in St. Margaret Mercy Health Care Center, Hammond, Ind.

Mr. Brosz was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Gackle, N.D., where he attended school. In 1936 he moved with his family into Gackle. He worked as a truck driver for 57 years. In 1942 he moved to Jamestown, N.D. On June 27, 1980, he married Marion Taszarek. They lived in Edgeley.

Mrs. Fred Brosz, 77, longtime resident of the Gackle, North Dakota Community died early Saturday morning June 24, 1967 at the Gackle Hospital in Gackle, N.D., where she had been hospitalized for about one week.

Katherina Flaig was born September 19, 1889 at Postal, Eigenfeld, South Russia, the daughter of Joseph Flaig and Anna Maria (Gackle) Flaig. At the age of nine years, she came with her parents to the United States, where they settled at Kulm, N.D. The following year they homesteaded on a farm six miles southeast of Gackle in Logan County, where she grew to womanhood.

On November 20, 1910, she and Fred Brosz were married in Gackle. Two years later in 1912, they moved to Watkins, Mont., returning to North Dakota in 1919 to farm Southeast of Gackle. In the year 1924, they moved to a farm one half mile south of Gackle where they lived until 1944 when they move into Gackle for their retirement.

She was an honorary member of the American Legion Auxiliary and honored as a Gold Star Mother. All six sons served in the army, for in World War II and two in the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are her husband, seven children, Edwin Brosz, Phoenix, Arizona; Anna (Mrs. Wilmer Cook), Elmer Brosz, both of Sacramento, Calif.; Albert Brosz, Drain, Ore., Joseph Brosz, Rodeo, Calif.; Martha (Mrs. Jacob Zenker), Jamestown, N.D.; John Brosz, Roseville, Calif., ten grandchildren, three brothers, and three sisters, Daniel Flaig, Bertha (Mrs. Bertha Ensslen), Lydia (Mrs. Fred Hiller), all of Fredonia, N.D., Joseph Flaig, Sacramento, Calif.; Jacob Flaig, Kalispell, Mont.; Emma (Mrs. Jacob Gackle), Circle, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Alvin, killed in World War II, two sons in infancy, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 1967 at the First Congregational Church in Gackle with Rev. Adolph Orman, Streeter, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in the Gackle Cemetery. Arrangements were through the Haut Funeral Home at Gackle.

Ethel M. (Hensrud) Brosz, 84, of Devils Lake, ND, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.

Funeral services will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ethel Mae, the daughter of Charles and Nellie Adams, was born on July 2, 1925, in Colorado Springs, CO, where she was also reared and educated. In 1952, Ethel was united in marriage to Elroy Hensrud. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Ethel worked at Montgomery Wards and Stevensons and, from 1971 to 1984, Ethel worked as the financial aid director at Lake Region State College. Ethel was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and also the Eagles Auxiliary and was named Mrs. Eagle of the Year.

Ethel was very active in the community and demonstrated a great spirit of volunteerism. She worked as the program aide for the Green Thumb Program and volunteered at the Second Chance Store. When not volunteering in the community, Ethel enjoyed tending her flowers, camping and vacations with the family. Ethel was a talented seamstress and sewed many uniforms for her daughter when she was a majorette in the high school band. She was also very active in Cub and Boy Scouts with her sons.

However, Ethel was never too busy to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need. We have lost someone very special.

Ethel is survived by her children, Lance Hensrud of Kemmerer, WY, Connie Estvold of Fordville, ND and Leslie Hensrud of Devils Lake. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wayne Hensrud; husband, Marvin Brosz on April 2, 2007; brothers, Charlie Adams and Jule Adams and sister, Ruth Harshbarg.

Herbert A. Brosz, 84, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Mr. Brosz was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Gackle, N.D., to Reinhold and Johanna Brosz. His family moved to Terry where they worked the family homestead. Mr. Brosz recounted many stories of growing up in eastern Montana during the Great Depression.

During his elementary years, he and his five brothers and sisters attended a one-room school house. Mr. Brosz graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1939, then attended Rocky Mountain College-Billings until entering World War II in 1942. He fought in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged from the Navy in September 1945.

In 1943 Mr. Brosz and the love of his life, Wanda Nelson, were married. After the war, they moved to Pullman, Wash., where he attended Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine. A little known fact about him was that although he was a man of few words, his fists packed a powerful punch. During his years at Washington State he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion.
After graduating from Washington State, Mr. and Mrs. Brosz returned to Montana where he practiced veterinary medicine for more than 30 years.

In 1951, the couple had a daughter. Mr. Brosz took great pride in Linda and all of her accomplishments.

Mr. Brosz practiced in many of Montana’s small communities; he especially loved Miles City. There, he participated in his love of golf, gardening and spending time with dear friends.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Montana Veterinary Association and Miles City Country Club. Mr. Brosz will be remembered for his beautiful singing, endearing love of family and firm handshake.

His survivors include his sister, Esther Propp of Warden; his daughter, Linda (Jesse) Marcel; his brother-in-law, James (Donna) Nelson of Helena; eight grandchildren, Marc (Peggy) Murfitt, Aimee (Rhett) Shein, Ashlee (Kyle) Mihelish, Marissa Marcel, MacKenzie Marcel (Nick Bennetts), Denice Marcel, Jay (Patricia) Marcel and John (Kelsey) Marcel; 14 great-grandchildren, Mariah, Madysun, Ragen, Devan, Jake, Kehler, Mikal, McKinlee, Merck (to be born in June), Macin, Anthony, Audrey, Piper, Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Johanna Brosz; his brothers, Harold, Herman and Richard; his sister, Gertrude; and his loving wife, Wanda.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 12, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church. Burial will take place at the Veterans Cemetery immediately following services.

Marvin James Brosz, 79, Devils Lake, died Monday, April 2, 2007, in a Minot hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born March 10, 1928, in Gackle, the son of Oscar and Helen (Kerner) Brosz. He was educated at Gackle and graduated from Gackle High School in 1946.

Following graduation he joined the Army. He served in the Paratrooper Division and was stationed in Watertown, N.Y. There he met the love of his life, Angeline DiDomenico, and they were married on April 12, 1952, in Syracuse, N.Y. Following their marriage they moved to Fort Campbell, Ky. He was honorably discharged in 1953, and they moved to Devils Lake, where Marvin started working with the S&L Store. Their only daughter was born in November of 1954, bringing them much joy and happy times. They moved many times with his job and lived in many different states until moving back to Devils Lake in 1973. He then went to work for Sharks until 1978. From 1978 until 1983, he worked for Glickson’s in Jamestown, and also for Levi Straus. They moved back to Devils Lake in 1983 and he worked for Glickson’s until they closed. He then went to work part time at Jerry’s Warehouse until his retirement in 2005. Angie died on Nov. 5, 1987. Marvin married Ethel Hensrud in November 1992.

Marvin’s love was fishing. Many weekends were spent at Van Hook with his family. As long as he was in the boat with a rod in his hand he was happy. He met many great friends at Van Hook and was liked by all. His five grandchildren were the light of his life. Spending time with them brought him much joy. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in September.

Marvin was a lifetime member of the Eagles Aerie and Elks Lodge and enjoyed playing pinochle at the VFW club.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel, Devils Lake; daughter, Bonnie (Brian) Wald, Minot; five grandchildren, David Wald (Angella Gjellstad), Bismarck, Jessica Wald, Grand Forks, Nathan Wald, Grand Forks, Jordan Wald, Bismarck, and Scott Wald, Minot; sister, Melva (Clarence) Oak, Jamestown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and fishing friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Angie.

Funeral: Thursday, April 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Nadine Brown, 77, Lingle, WY, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Cheyenne, WY, following a brief illness.

Nadine was born November 6, 1930, to Walter and Orpha Mortiboy, in Liberty, IN. She grew up and attended school in Cambridge City, IN, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. She began helping in her parents’ grocery store in Cambridge City at the age of 10. She came to North Dakota to be the maid of honor for her best friend, Jean Ann Malkmus who was marrying Floyd Brown, the brother of her future husband. Darrel C. Brown was the best man. They met, fell in love and three months later were married on August 28, 1950, in Millarton, ND. They lived in Millarton for a short time and then purchased a farm one and a half miles west of Millarton in Severn Township where they farmed and ranched for many years. After raising their five children, she worked at the Gackle Care Center, Gackle, ND, as a nursing assistant, and later was a co-owner and operator of Ropers Bar, Ypsilanti, ND. She served on the Montpelier School Board, Montpelier, ND. She was a member of the Centerville Christian Church, Centerville, IN. Darrel and Nadine enjoyed winters in Arizona and summers in North Dakota for many years. She bowled with the Ladies Bowling League, Nortonville, ND. She enjoyed her cats, especially Murphy; her Great Pyrenees, Nanook; hiking in the Arizona desert, music, beautiful sunsets, word finds and crossword puzzles. She had a very artistic side and often shared her crafts with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Robyn (Robert) Bryant, Glendale, AZ; three sons, Martin (SuEllen), Rugby, ND, Nathan (Karen), Lingle, WY, and Matthew (Pam), Millarton; a sister, Sue Quick, Richmond, IN; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna Brunnmeier, 95, Gackle, N.D., died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Anna Stroh was born Aug. 19, 1908, west of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of John and Christina (Meidinger) Stroh. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the area. She helped her parents in their various businesses.

She married Edwin "Pete" Brunnmeier on Sept. 7, 1935, in Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Jud. N.D., where he was a blacksmith. They retired in 1988. He died March 31, 1989. She moved to Gackle, N.D., in September 1989. She entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in March 2001. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Gackle, and the Guiding Light.

She is survived by a son, Clayton, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Sharon (Milton) Schlittenhard, Gackle.; a brother, Walter (Vi), Carson City, Nev.; two sisters, Lorretta (Dolly) Horst, Sacramento, Calif., and Carm (Delmer) Meier, Galt, Calif.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,

Donna Larson-Buchanan, 42, Jamestown, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Donna Larson was born Feb. 24, 1967, in Jamestown, the daughter of Elmo and Alice (Holmstrom) Larson. She grew up and attended school in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, in 1985. She worked in the camera department of White Drug. She married Alvin Buchanan on Feb. 24, 1994, in Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Joshua Buchanan, and Jeremy Buchanan, both James-town; her mother, Jamestown; two brothers, Ronald, Jamestown, and Keith (Margy), West Fargo, N.D.; and three grandchildren.

Alma Irene Dollinger was born June 1, 1930, to Gottlieb and Emma (Blumhardt) Dollinger at Venturia, N.D. She grew up in the Fredonia area and graduated from Ashley High School. On July 5, 1953, she married Alfred Clarence Buchholz at the Ashley Baptist Church. They were married for 43 years. They made their first home on a farm east of Ashley, N.D. In 1957 they moved to Aberdeen, where Alma worked for the Aberdeen Hospital system. In 1972 they moved to Dickinson, N.D., where she worked for Kristy Floral, St. Lukes Nursing Home and later opened her own hobbies and crafts store, Alma's Treasures. After Alfred died in 1995, Alma moved back to Aberdeen and lived with her sister, Violet, and brother-in-law, Elliott Rott, where she then worked for Hallmark Cards. Alma was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served with the Women's Missionary Fellowship where she was currently president and coordinated the 60+ ministry. Her loving smile and Christian example will be greatly missed.

Arthur E. "Art" Buchholz, 88, Jamestown, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Buchholz was born May 19, 1919, in Lehr, N.D., the son of Jacob and Magdalina (Bertsch) Buchholz. He grew up in the Lehr area and attended Lautt farm school through eighth grade. He began farming with his father in 1941 and continued until 1962. He married Erna George on Nov. 30, 1941, at Evangelical United Brethern Church, Lehr. They moved to Jamestown in 1962 and he worked at Jamestown Aviation, Jamestown College and Western Gear for 11 1/2 years before he retired. He also helped Orr Auctioneers for 15 years. He was a member of the Men’s Organization, Lehr, the Whoppers Club and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed fishing, ceramics and his miniature car collection.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marcella Marie (LeRoy) Walker, Bismarck, N.D., and Marsha (Steven) Baisch, Bloomington, Minn.; two sons, Ronald (Judy), Jamestown, and Roedell (DeNae), Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Delbert (Dallas), Gwinner, N.D.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Buchholz, Lehr, and Della Buchholz, Bismarck, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alvin, Benny and Reuben.

Ruth Doris Buchholz, 81, of Durbin, ND died at her home surrounded by family on September 10, 2010.

Ruth was born Feb. 25, 1929, to Herman and Ella (Draeger) Kirmis on their farm near Jud in LaMoure County, ND. She was baptized April 21, 1929 at the Lutheran Church in Jud.

She attended a country school at Jud through fourth grade. Then the family moved to Lisbon, ND. Ruth was confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lisbon. Her father died when she was in eighth grade. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1946.

Ruth attended Valley City State Teachers College and taught at a country school near Nortonville, ND. She also taught at the Goshen School, rural Durbin, ND in 1947. It was there that she met her future husband. She married Ernest Buchholz on November 14, 1948 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. They made their home on the farm near Durbin for over 61 years.

Ruth was a member of Goshen Moravian Church. She had a steadfast and abiding faith in the Lord, which she passed on to her children. She utilized her many talents as she served in the church and Sunday school. She also shared them with her family, friends and neighbors. Ruth enjoyed teaching, painting, poetry, tending her flower gardens and planning parties or programs.

The family farm was a gathering place for her children and grandchildren whether for work or holidays. She corresponded with many people offering encouragement and prayer. She faced her kidney disease and impending death with the calm assurance that the Lord knew what he was doing,

Ruth is survived by her husband, Ernest; seven children: Marjorie (Sanford) Quammen, Battle Lake, MN; Joan (Gary) Lee, Casselton; Judy (David) Frueh, Martin, ND; William (Sonia) Buchholz, Casselton; Naomi (Frederick) Aziz, Jamestown, ND; John Buchholz, Durbin, ND, and Mary Beth Buchholz (Jeff Lane), Alexandria, VA; three sisters; Mary (Franklin Stahlecker), Lisbon, ND; Marjorie Strong, Riverside, CA; and Naomi (Les) Hildreth, Riverside, CA.; Fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Ruth prefers gifts to the Goshen Moravian Church for a handicap accessible entrance.
Visitation will be on Monday, from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7 at West Chapel, Casselton, ND.

Esther Heine was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Alfred, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Schlenker) Heine. She grew up on the farm, and graduated from Gackle High School in 1941. On June 27, 1943 she married Benjamin Buchholz.

Hilda Buchholz, 81, Lehr, N.D., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Hilda Miller was born March 13, 1926, in Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Steiger) Miller. She grew up and attended rural school and attended Napoleon High School. She married Luther Buchholz on Oct. 6, 1947, in Napoleon. They returned to the Lehr area to farm and ranch in June 1949. They retired in 1984 and moved into Lehr. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Lehr, serving as president of the women’s organization. She enjoyed cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter-in-law, Maxine; her parents; six sisters; and four brothers.

Edna Weisz was born Jan. 7, 1923, north of Lehr, N.D., the daughter of John and Marie (Iszler) Weisz. She attended the local rural school and Streeter (N.D.) High School. She lived in the Streeter area for many years. She married Reinhold Buck on March 24, 1940. They lived on a farm six and a half miles south of Streeter. They retired from farming in the early 1980s and continued to live on the farm. He died in 2001. She moved to Park Avenue Apartments, Fargo, where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Women’s World Service, charter member of the Senior Citizens Club of Streeter, president of Homemakers Club, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher and served on the Nutrition Board of Stutsman County. She enjoyed playing cards and games.

She is survived by her two sons, Wilbert (Arlis), West Fargo, N.D., and Rodney (Betty), St. Paul, Minn.; three daughters, Marvelene (Steven) Kitzman, Fargo, and Koreen (Daniel) Tongen and Brenda (Robert) Steider, both The Woodlands, Texas; a brother, Raymond (Tippy), Brentwood, Calif.; two sisters, Averna (Walter) Kubler and Alice Wyatt, both Lodi, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Weisz, Lodi, and Gerda Nylander, Tioga, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband; her parents; two brothers, Ervin and Milton; an infant sister; and a grandson, Dallas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harold Buck, daughter of Christ Wolff, will be held tomorrow at the Streeter Evangelical church at 2 o'clock. A short service will be held at the Wolff home at 1 o'clock. Mrs. Buck died at Trinity hospital Monday from complications incident to child birth. A daughter, born October 2, died at birth.

Emelia Wolff Buck was born May 23, 1915, south of Cleveland and attended the rural schools in that community. On September 12, 1937, the deceased and Harold Buck were married in Streeter. Mrs. Buck's mother passed away in September, 1936.

Survivors are her husband; five brothers, John, Jake, and Henry Wolff of Cleveland, Edwin Wolff of Middle River, Minn.; and Gottlieb Wolff of Lodi, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Lydia Martin, Cleveland, Martha, Ida and Lenora Wolff, all of Lodi, Calif. The deceased's father was in Lodi at the time of her death and has arrived for the funeral.

Ludwig Buck, 85, a retired farmer dies at 4:45 p.m. Sunday at the Baptist Old People’s Home, 223 First St. His death was said to have been caused by a stroke following a three-day illness. His wife preceded him in death last April.

He leaves five daughters and two sons. Daughters are Mrs. John Hunkler Napoleon, Mrs. Alex Schmidt, Mrs. Albert Ketterling and Mrs. F. C. Ketterling of Streeter and Mrs. Dan Suckut of Britton, S.D. His sons are Jacob and John Buck of Streeter.

Mr. Buck was a member of the Evangelical Church and had been a resident of the state for 49 years. He has made him home in Burleigh county the last two years.

The body will be taken from the Calhan funeral home to Streeter where funeral services will be held and burial will be made. The time of the funeral has not yet been set.

Olga Buck, 87, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Olga Rivinius was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Streeter, the daughter of William and Katrina (Wolff) Rivinius. She grew up on a farm near Streeter where she attended a country school. She graduated from Streeter High School, Streeter. She taught in a country school for a few years. She married Pete Nenow and they lived on a farm south of Streeter. He died in 1947. She married Weslei J. Buck on Oct. 12, 1949, in Streeter. They owned and operated a café in Streeter until they retired in 1979. They moved to Fargo, N.D., where she worked for St. Luke’s Hospital as head baker from 1979 to 1989. She also worked for the Fargo Senior Commission for many years and Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo, as a custodian. She retired in 1997. He died in 1997.

She is survived by three sons, Doug (Carolyn) Nenow, Alexander, N.D., Wayne (Janelle) Buck, Jamestown, and Bruce (Rosalyn) Buck, Fargo; three daughters, Paulette (Milton) Bullock, Fridley, Minn., Velma (Daryl) Dockter, Jamestown, and Julie Buck, Fargo; a brother, Melvin (Joyce), Fargo; two sisters, Irene Opp, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Pauline Frey, Hastings, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Reinhold Buck, 81, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Buck was born March 7, 1919, on the family farm home south of Streeter, the son of Michael Jr. and Dorothea (Wentz) Buck. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the area, where he helped on the family farm. He married Edna Weisz on March 24, 1940, at the United Methodist Church in Streeter. They lived on a farm six and a half miles south of Streeter, where he farmed until 1980, when he retired. They continued to live on the farm. He was also an over the road truck driver for many years. He attended the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming, traveling and attending auctions.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Wilbert (Arlis), West Fargo, N.D., and Rodney (Betty), St. Paul, Minn.; three daughters, Marvelene (Steven) Kitzman, Fargo, N.D., Koreen (Daniel) Tongen, Plymouth, Wis., and Brenda (Robert) Stieder, The Woodlands, Texas; a sister, Marie Wentz, Gackle, N.D.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Weslei J. Buck, 80, Bethany Homes, Fargo, N.D., died Friday, August 1, 1997, in the nursing home.

Mr. Buck was born July 30, 1917, in Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He moved to California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. Following his military service he returned to Streeter, where he worked with his father at Buck's Hardware. On Oct. 12, 1949, he married Olga Rivinius in Streeter. He owned and managed Buck's Hardware until 1967. They owned and managed a cafe in Streeter until retiring in 1979. They moved to Fargo. Emma Buckey, 96, Jamestown, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Emma G. Burkle was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Logan County near Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Johannes and Wilhelmina (Schimke) Burkle. She grew up on the family farm and attended school at the rural Nathan School District. She helped on the family farm and with raising her brothers and sisters. She married Fred Buckey on Nov. 8, 1931, in Napoleon, N.D. They farmed near Fredonia for five years and then moved to Missoula, Mont., for a year. They returned to North Dakota and farmed near Adrian, N.D., from 1938 to 1940; near Montpelier, N.D., from 1941 to 1951 and then near Nortonville, N.D., from 1952 to 1973. They retired in 1974 and moved to Jamestown. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, James-town.

She is survived by two sons, Jerome (Marlys), Fountain Valley, Calif., and James (Paige) Buckeye, Montpelier; two daughters, Joan (Ervin) Kobs, Bismarck, N.D., and Jane (James) Barnard, Fayetteville, Ga.; two sisters, Ardena Oelke, California, and Alma Kinzler, Jamestown; two brothers, Raymond, Jamestown, and Kornard, Dickinson, N.D.; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

John Buckey Sr., 95, Jamestown, formerly Nortonville, N.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D.

Mr. Buckey was born Feb. 8, 1907, on the family farm near Fredonia, N.D., the son of Donia and Prokof Buckey. He attended rural school in Fredonia and then worked on the family farm. He married Gladys Glovich on June 3, 1933, in Bismarck, N.D. They farmed in the Fredonia area. In 1941, they purchased a farm near Nortonville, where they farmed until they retired in 1980 and moved to Jamestown. He was a member of The Basilica of St James, Jamestown, and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards and his farm.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marvin (Darlene), Bismarck, and John Jr. (Nancy), Edgeley, N.D.; two daughters, Judy (Don) Hoffman and Diana Enquist, both Bettendorf, Iowa; a sister, Emma Hordetckey, Fargo, N.D.; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Albert Henry Buerkle, 95, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Buerkle was born June 2, 1912, the son of Martin and Theresa (Kramlich) Buerkle in a sod farmhouse west of Kulm. After his father died in the flu epidemic when he was 6 years old, the family moved into Kulm. He married Ella Mogck in 1934 at Kulm. In 1939, he started working at the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator and was manager there from 1951 until he retired in 1974. They moved to Bismarck, N.D., in 1999. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church and the Kulm Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by daughter, Dorothy Young, Bismarck, N.D.; a son, Lyle (Doris), Wayzata, Minn.; a half brother, Elmer Sonnenberg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Ted and Emil; two sisters, Ruth and Edna; and a stepsister, Evelyn.

Alma Buerkle, 92, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Alma Weispfenning was born Nov. 19, 1916, at Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Louisa (Rath) Weispfenning. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the Fredonia area where she helped on the family farm. She worked for several farmers assisting with milking, cooking, babysitting and shocking and other farm chores. She married Edwin R. Buerkle on March 3, 1940, at her parents’ farm home north of Fredonia. They lived with her parents. In 1943 they began farming near Fredonia. In 1948 they moved to the John Borth farm near Gackle. In 1949 they purchased the Alex Ritola farm south of Gackle. In the fall of 1973 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. He died March 25, 1986. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing and playing pinochle.

She is survived by three daughters, JoAnne (Marvin) Miller and Karen (Norman E.) Miller, both Gackle, and Marcene (Henry) Veil, Jamestown; a brother, Ray, Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Eleanora "Lora" Buerkle, 83, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Eleanora Buerkle was born Jan. 2, 1918, near Kulm, the daughter of Rudolph and Lydia (Batsch) Burkle. She grew up and attended school in the Kulm area. She married John C. Buerkle Aug. 27, 1936, at Fredonia, N.D. They farmed together until he died in 1962. On Oct. 1, 1963, she moved to Kulm, where she worked at the school and Kulm Cafe, where she was a cook until retiring in 1988. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm, and active in many different activities. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Lucille), LaMoure, N.D., and Roger (Laurie), Fargo; five grandsons, a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two children and three brothers.

Ella Mogck was born May 7, 1911, near Kulm, where she grew up, attended school and farmed with her family. In 1928 she moved with her family into Kulm, where she also attended school. She later graduated from college in Ellendale, N.D. On April 5, 1934, she married Albert H. Buerkle in Kulm, where they lived. She worked as a teacher and telephone operator. They moved to Bismarck in May.

Frieda Buerkle, 86, Kulm, N.D., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

Frieda Weispfenning was born Oct. 10, 1918, on her parents’ farm north of Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Louisa (Rath) Weispfenning. She attended school in the Haag School District. She married Otto Buerkle on Oct. 10, 1940. They farmed with their parents until 1952, when they purchased a farm northwest of Fredonia. He died in 1991, and she moved to Kulm. She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, and Kulm Friendship Club. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and quilting.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Earl) Schlenker, Kulm; two sisters, Edna Weispfenning, Wishek, and Alma Buerkle, Gackle, N.D.; a brother, Raymond, Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Weispfenning, Kulm, and Joyce Weispfenning, Comanche, Iowa; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three stepgreat-grandsons.

Lucille E. Buerkle, 66, LaMoure, N.D., died Monday, April 12, 2010, at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, N.D.

Lucille Esther Woehl was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Kulm, N.D, the daughter of William and Esther (Miller) Woehl. At age 5 she moved to Moorhead, Minn., and later returned to the Ellendale, N.D., area where her family farmed. She married Gerald Buerkle on June 16, 1963, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kulm. They lived in Kulm, then moved to LaMoure, in 1967. She worked as an in-home child care provider and as a house keeper. She worked for 20 years beginning in 1984, at Colonial Manor (now St. Rose Care Center) and also as a custodian at the Presbyterian Church, all LaMoure. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, LaMoure. She enjoyed cooking and baking.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Martin, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mark (Michelle), Springfield, Minn.; two brothers, Leonard, Huron, S.D., and Loren, Elgin, Mich.; and three grandsons.

Theodore "Ted" Buerkle, 91, Ellendale, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.

Mr. Buerkle was born May 23, 1911, on the family farm north of Kulm, N.D., the son of Martin and Theresa (Kramlich) Buerkle. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education. He married Ida Messner on Sept. 30, 1932, in Fredonia, N.D. They lived and farmed south of Kulm. She died Nov. 18, 1980. In 1981 he moved to Wishek, N.D. He married Esther Schultz on Nov. 23, 1981, in Fredonia. They lived in Wishek. In 1999 he entered Prince of Peace Care Center. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia. He served on the Northwest Township Board, school board, Dickey County Community Committee of A.S.C.S. and was Democratic precinct committeeman for many years. He was a member of the Kulm Rod & Gun Club, Wishek Wildlife Club and the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, Edgeley, N.D.; a daughter, Burnette (Harry) Schlenker, Jud, N.D.; four sons, LeRoy (Edna), Mandan, N.D., Curtis (Dorothy), Fargo, N.D., Arnie (Connie), Kulm, and Vernie (Donna), Avon Lake, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Marcella (Darvin) Becker, Fargo; a stepson, Howard (Linda) Schultz, Fredonia; a brother, Albert, Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Ruth Konrad, Tacoma, Wash.; a half brother, Elmer Sonnenburg, Ephrato, Wash.; two stepsisters, Evelyn George, Kulm, and Elsie Nudek, San Jose, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-stepgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Buerkley was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Kulm, the son of Fred and Christine (Buerkley) Buerkley. He grew up in the area and graduated from Kulm High School in 1942. He served in the armed forces during World War II, and received a medical discharge in 1943. He married Ruth Schock on Oct. 1, 1944. They lived in St. Paul, Minn. In 1946 they moved back to Kulm, where he worked for the Soo Line Railroad. In 1949 he started work at John Stroehl Standard Station. In 1953 they spent the winter in California, returning to Kulm in the spring. He worked at the Farmers Union station until 1964. He then purchased the Stroehl Standard Station. In 1977, he semi-retired and sold the station. In spring 1978, he began tilling gardens and selling and repairing lawn mowers and other small engines. He was a substitute mail carrier for the Kulm postal department, drove school bus for many years and owned and operated the Northside Trailer Court, Kulm. He was a member of the Kulm Lions Club and served on the city council for six years, as church treasurer and on the Sunday school committee.

He is survived by his wife; four brothers, Herbert (Alice), Palmer (Ella) and Fred Jr. (Sophia), all Kulm, and Floyd (Lois), Pelican Rapids, Minn.; and three sisters, Vivian (Howard) Haffner and Lucille (Melvin) Walker, both Kulm, and Marilyn (Howard) Weiler, Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Myron "Mike" W. Buetow, 79, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Buetow was born Nov. 28, 1928, in rural Eldridge, N.D., the son of Walter and Melinda (Perleberg) Buetow. He attended school in Lippert School district, rural Eldridge, and completed his education while serving in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in various states while serving in the military. He married Alleen Boschee on Aug. 30, 1953, at the Reformed Church, Wishek, N.D. They lived in Jamestown. He managed the M&H gas station and later worked for the YMCA in Jamestown. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where he served as deacon for several years and also ushered for more than 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Jamestown; two sons, Randy (Moni), Moorhead, Minn., and Terry (Suz), Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Connie (Gene) Huber, Utica, S.D.; and eight grandchildren.

Elsie Burkhart, 88, San Diego, Calif., died Friday, March 31, 2006, at her home.

Elsie Ruby Hoffman was born Feb. 3, 1918, the daughter of John and Katherine Hoffman, Napoleon, N.D. She graduated from Streeter High School and attended Bismarck (N.D.) School of Nursing. She served in the U.S. Navy as a registered nurse with the Veteran’s Hospital, San Diego, for many years. She married Harry Burkhart. He died in 1976.

She is survived by a sister, Clara (Harold) Martin, Ashley, N.D.; and a brother, Roy, Minot, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Gertrude Becker, and eight other siblings.

Clifford Burkle, 81, Jamestown, N.D., died Friday, March 2, 2001, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Mr. Burkle was born Nov. 17, 1919, near Fredonia, N.D., where he attended school. In 1936 he began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana. From 1940 to 1945 he served in the U.S. Army. On Oct. 12, 1952, he married Kay Reich in Hazelton, N.D. They lived in Jamestown, where he worked as a carpenter, and for CH Carpenter Lumber Co. until retiring in 1984.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Lyle (Linda), Omaha, Neb., Paul (Kathy), Larry (Cindy), Mark, all Jamestown; three daughters, Janet (Dale) Michel, Sara (Mitchell) Casper, both Jamestown, Candida Burkle, Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Elenora Buerkle, Kulm, N.D., Alvina (Frank) Docktor, Jamestown, Jona (Duane) Rohde, Watertown, S.D.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Clifford Burkle, 81, Jamestown, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Burkle was born Nov. 17, 1919, near Fredonia, N.D., the son of Rudolph and Lydia (Batsch) Burkle. He received his elementary education at a local rural school. In 1936 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in Montana, until he entered the U.S. Army June 17, 1940, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served in Africa and Italy, and was wounded on March 13, 1944, at Sicily, Italy. He was honorably discharged Feb. 14, 1945, at Camp Carson, Colo., with the rank of private. He received the America Campaign Medal, three Bronze Stars, and Good Conduct, Purple Heart, American Defense Service and WW II Victory medals. He married Kay Reich Oct. 12, 1952, at Hazelton, N.D. They lived in Jamestown, where he worked as a carpenter and also at C.H. Carpenter Lumber Co. He retired in 1984. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, VFW, American Legion and DAV.

The graveside funeral service for the Stillborn Infant of Mr. and Mrs. Roland C. Burkle, Fredonia, North Dakota was held Saturday morning September 4, 1965 at the Gackle Cemetery, Gackle, North Dakota with Rev. John F. Mertz, pastor of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle officiating. The baby was dead at birth Thursday morning September 2, 1965 at Jamestown, North Dakota.

Survivors include the parents, three brothers, Vernon 17, Delynn 8, and Johnathan 6, the grandparents, Mrs. Wilhelmina Burke, and Fred Rudolph, all of Fredonia.

Martha Burkle, 89, Jamestown, N.D., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown, N.D.

Martha Rath was born May 14, 1910, in Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Nov. 3, 1933, she married Richard Burkle in Gackle. They farmed near Fredonia, N.D., until purchasing a farm near Gackle. In 1996 they entered Gackle Care Center. He died in 1997. She entered the Jamestown nursing center in January.

Raymond Burkle, 88, Jamestown, formerly Fredonia, N.D., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Burkle was born Dec. 27, 1921, at the family farm home northwest of Fredonia, the son of John G. Burkle and Wilhilmina (Schimke) Burkle. He attended Nathan Rural School and Fredonia Public School. He received his high school equivalency diploma in February 1954. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at the International Peace Gardens, North Dakota, the Bureau of Reclamation, Yuma, Ariz., and the Grazing and Water Conservation Department Service, Medford, Utah. He studied law and procedure at LaSalle Extension University, Chicago, Ill. He married Alvina Rudolph on July 2, 1944. They lived on the farm northwest of Fredonia where he raised grain and cattle. She died in 1989. He married Thelma (Smith) Hahn on June 6, 1992, at Leonard, N.D. They lived in Jamestown. He helped with haying and upkeep of buildings on his son’s farm after he retired. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where he served as chairman, the Sunday school superintendent and a teacher. He served as chairman of the Logan County School Officers Association, was a member of the Logan County School District Re-organization Committee, a clerk of Nathan School District and School Board member of Gackle Public School. He was a charter board member and vice president of Dickey Rural Telephone Mutual Aid Corporation.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; a son, Glenn (Joan), West Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Debora (Dale) Holmstrom, Gackle, N.D.; two step-daughters, Joyce (Clayton) Larson, Felton, Minn., and Beverly (Dennis) Heller, Davenport, N.D.; two step-sons, Rodney (Barbara) Hahn, Chaffee, N.D., and Robert (Eileen) Hahn, Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Kornard (Irene) Burkle, Dickinson, N.D.; and two sisters, Alma Kinzler, Jamestown, and Ardena Oelke, Palo Alto, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alvina; a son, Wayne; a step-daughter, Betty; his parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Wayne Burkle, 59, Fredonia, N.D., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Burkle was born Oct. 11, 1945, in Kulm, N.D., the son of Raymond and Alvina (Rudolph) Burkle. He grew up and attended country school in Logan County, North Dakota, and Fredonia. He graduated from Gackle (N.D.) High School in 1964. He helped on the family farm. He married Diana Job on Aug. 27, 1967, in Linton, N.D. They lived on a farm near Fredonia. He farmed northwest of Fredonia. He was a confirmed member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia. He attended Grace Baptist Church, Gackle. He enjoyed darts, car shows and wood working.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Cherie (Daren) Graber, Fredonia, Sandi (Rick) Himmelspach, Mandan, N.D., and Kacey Kuntz, Maineville, Ohio; his father and stepmother, Raymond (Thelma), Jamestown; a brother, Glenn (Joan) West Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Debora (Dale) Holmstrom, Gackle; and seven grandchildren.

Services for Louise Burns, a former resident of Riverside, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glendora. She died Wednesday of heart disease at Glendora Rehabilitation Center. She was 93.

Custer Christiansen Mortuary Directors in Glendora is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Burns, who was born in Tripp, S.D., lived in Riverside 33 years before moving to Glendora 28 years ago. She was a production worker for Alcan Aluminum Production in Riverside for 21 years before she retired in 1969. She previously was a housekeeper at the Mission Inn and a laundry worker at Camp Haan, both in Riverside.

She is survived by a son, Walter Burns of Glendora, and a sister, Hulda Remboldt of Gackle, N.D.

Marjorie Busch, 81, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Marjorie Herrmann was born June 27, 1928, on a farm five miles northeast of Kulm, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Nitschke) Herrmann. She graduated from Kulm High School, Kulm, in 1946. She worked for Kulm State Bank. She married Ray Busch on July 12, 1953, at Kulm. They lived in Braddock, N.D. They moved back to Kulm. She again worked for Kulm State Bank until she retired in 1991. She was a member of First Congregational Church where she was pianist, church secretary and a member of the Dorcas Society. She enjoyed reading, music and playing board games.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carol (Dave) Gackle, Kulm; a son, Jim (Jill), Sheridan, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, First Congregational Church, Kulm.
Prayer service: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
