Lydia Carlson, 82, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Kulm, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.

Lydia Edna Doering was born Nov. 7, 1924, on the family farm in McIntosh County, North Dakota, southwest of Kulm, the daughter of Edward and Maria (Grosz) Doering. She grew up there and graduated from Kulm High School. She taught at a country school for three years. She married Alden Carlson on June 20, 1947, in Kulm. They lived in Swede Township, North Dakota, and then moved to a farm nine miles southwest of Kulm where they operated a grain and dairy farm. In 1964, they moved to the Doering farm. They moved into Kulm in 1980 and then to the Fargo-Moorhead, Minn., area in September 2004. She enjoyed gardening and bingo.

She is survived by three daughters, Angela (Gary) Huck, Cynthia (Kevin) Liedahl and Delight (Kevin) Swingen, all Fargo; a son, Allen, Kulm; a sister, Violet (Clifton) Bjur, Kulm; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Edwin, George and Lawrence; and three sisters, Elsie Muehler, Ruth Doering and Bertha Hannald.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Kulm Assembly of God Church, Kulm.
Visitation: one hour before the service at the church.

Sylvia Carow, 75, Edgeley, N.D. died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Sylvia Ann Exner was born Aug. 23, 1927, at Braddock, N.D., the daughter of Adolph and Clara (Duncan) Exner. She moved to a farm with her family near Edgeley, and attended country school. In 1942 they moved to Jamestown, where she graduated from St. John's Academy. She worked for King Studio, Jamestown. She married Clifford Carow on Sept. 27, 1948, at The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown. They lived at the Carow family farm near Edgeley. They owned and operated Cliff's Tavern, Edgeley from 1964-74. They moved into Edgeley in 1968. She was employed as an in-home care specialist with LaMoure County for 20 years caring for more than 100 clients. She entered Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, in 1998. She was a member of the Edgeley Ambulance Crew, Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, where she taught religion for many years, Transfiguration Altar Society and the Edge-Ettes Homemakers.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, C. Jay, Montpelier, N.D., and Kim (Sheryl), Edgeley; three daughters, Carlann "Carlie," Fargo, N.D., Meleia (Roger) Anderson, Edgeley and Lisa, (Keith) Kuhn, Gackle, N.D.; a sister, Margaret Exner, Winnipeg, Manitoba; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Glen, James and Bernard; a sister, Claretta; and a grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley.
Prayer service: 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Church.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, and one hour before the service at the church.

Carroll, Lillian H. (Dronen) age 82, passed away peacefully at home on March 16th. After Joseph passed away, Lillian moved to California and married Philip Carroll where they enjoyed traveling together. After retirement, they returned to MN. Hazel Mickelson was born Nov. 6, 1917, at the family farm north of Jud, N.D., the daughter of Morris and Hilda (Lee) Mickelson. She attended rural country school in Mickelson Township, North Dakota. She worked in area jobs until she moved to California. She married Albert "Al" Cavasher.

She is survived by her husband and two sisters, Bernice (Glen) Spotts, West Plains, Mo., and DeLores Carlson, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Douglas, Arnold and Johnnie; and a sister, Gladys Headland.

Annie Christensen, 72, Fargo, N.D., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Elim Care Center, Fargo.

Annie Viola Brosz was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Kulm, N.D., the daughter of John and Emily (Haase) Brosz. She grew up and attended school near Kulm, graduating from high school in 1948. She received her teaching degree from Gackle (N.D.) Community College of Teaching. She then taught for a year in surrounding schools. She married Lawrence Christensen on June 10, 1961, at United Church of Christ in Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown, she worked as a bookkeeper for Gamble Robinson. They moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1967, where she continued to work for Gamble Robinson (now Food Services of America). She retired in January 1992. He died Aug. 28, 1999. She moved to Elim Care Center in June 2002. She was active in the Fargo Senior Center. She enjoyed playing piano and organ, playing cards and spending time at the lake cottage at Lake Ashtabula.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Michael) Borgie, Baxter, Minn., and Sherri Christensen, Fargo; two brothers, Arthur (Betty), Jamestown, and Edwin (Lydia), Kulm; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Congregational Church UCC, Fargo.
Prayer service: 8 p.m. today, Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church.

JoAnn Christensen, 49, Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

JoAnn Rath was born Nov. 17, 1952, in Jamestown, the daughter of Reuben and Emma (Kienzle) Rath. She attended school at Gackle and graduated from Gackle High School in 1970. She attended Moorhead (Minn.) State University. She married Tom Christensen in 1971 at Gackle. They lived in Gackle and later moved to Ft. Pierre, S.D. In 1980 she returned to Gackle and worked for James Valley Electric, the city of Gackle and Tastee Freeze. For the last 12 years she worked for various road contractors. She was a member of First UCC Congregational Church, Gackle. She enjoyed horses, dogs, flowers, bowling and golf.

She is survived by a daughter, Paula Christensen (Lee Mikesh), Breckenridge, Minn., and a brother, Larry Rath, Gackle.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, First UCC Congregational Church, Gackle, with the Rev. Gordon Moen officiating.

Mrs. Christianson was born in Gackle, N.D., on Sept. 2, 1934. She married Keith Christianson, 1982. She worked for the Leukemia Society of America.

Survivors include her husband; mother Frieda Lang of North Dakota; brothers Duane Lang of North Dakota, Erwin Lang of Montana; sister LaVern Allen of Kansas.

Daniel J. Cichos, 59 of Fargo, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Innovis Health in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Daniel James Cichos was born on June 21, 1951 in Jamestown, ND to Paul and Susan (Prodzinski) Cichos. He graduated from high school in Jamestown where he excelled in football and track and still holds a standing record for the 880 yard race. He served in the US Marine Corps for 3 years including a tour in Vietnam. Dan married Peggy Janke on November 30, 1974 in Jamestown. They lived in Fargo where Dan worked for Gateway Building Systems until his illness. He was a dedicated employee who was greatly respected by his co-workers. Dan enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed following sports.

Dan was a very unselfish man. Everyone, especially his children and grandchildren, came before his own needs. He enjoyed spoiling his grandkids and could not turn down a request to go to the neighborhood park or take the family dog, Alphie on a long walk. A more humble man you will never meet.

Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy of Fargo; children, Angie (Ronnie) Holm of Fargo, Paul (Kayla) Cichos of Fargo, Patrick Cichos of Fargo; grandchildren, Madison, Grace and Connor Holm, Lauren Cichos and one granddaughter expected in October; brother, Kenneth (Fran) Cichos of Bellflower, CA; sister, Diane (Doug) Essig of Shevlin, MN; brother, Jerry (Karen) Cichos of Bismarck, ND; brother, John "Jack" Cichos of Ft. Smith, AR and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, August 17 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo and from 9:30-10:30 am at the church on Wednesday.

Fred J. Cink Sr., 88, Valley City, N.D., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Mr. Cink was born Feb. 8, 1913, at Bee, Neb., the son of Joseph and Bessie (Moravacek) Cink. He moved with his family to Stirum, N.D., where he attended and graduated from high school. In 1938 he graduated from Valley City State University, where he was a member of Tau Lambda Sigma fraternity. He married Hulda Schaffer Aug. 20, 1941, at Gackle, N.D. He taught school at Stirum, Gackle, Colfax, McHenry, Wishek, Jamestown, and Kathryn, N.D., and at Valley City High School. He coached at St. Catherine's High School and refereed basketball at numerous area schools. He was active in softball and horseshoes and managed the Valley City Country Club. He owned and operated College Grocery for 22 years and A&W for five years, both Valley City. He was a charter member and past president of Valley City Lions Club; past member of the Eagles; and a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. For the last 24 years he wintered in Mesa, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Constance (Keith) Laite, Fargo, Cathleen (Roland) Galer, Molalla, Ore., Maloye (Michael) Lesmeister, Harvey, N.D., Kerry (James) Fenstad, Valley City, and Terry Christensen, Milbank, S.D.; two sons, Jay, Valley City, and Fred Jr. (Debra), Port Orchard, Wash.; two brothers, Victor, Grand Forks, N.D., and Edwin (Ida Mae), Sacramento, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Elsie Comer, 68, New Rockford, N.D., died Friday, June 17, 2005, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, N.D.

Elsie Lorraine Meckle was born Oct. 1, 1936, at New Rockford, daughter of Benjamin and Katherine (Roemmich) Meckle. She grew up and attended school at Cathay, N.D. She married Larry “Buck” Comer, and they later divorced. She worked doing babysitting at Riverdale, N.D. She then worked as a line worker at Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten, N.D. She later worked doing cleaning in Fargo, N.D., and at Gackle, N.D. She moved to New Rockford and was a certified nurse’s assistant at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. She then worked in Maintenance at the North American Bison Co-op and was currently employed as a janitor at New Rockford Public School. She enjoyed making afghans, bowling and collecting bells.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Wobbema, New Rockford; three brothers, Reinhold (Marlys), Eugene, Ore., Raymond (Bernadine), Rugby, N.D., and Steven (Jodi), Hastings, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Bill Kelley, Missouri; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Violet Witt, Anna Marie Kelley and infant twins.

Anne Schuldheisz was born May 30, 1916, in Kulm, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Gackle, N.D. In 1936 she married Norbert Connery in Edgeley, N.D. They lived in Gackle, where she worked for US West Telephone Co. She later moved to Minneapolis and worked for US West until retiring. She later moved to Aberdeen, S.D. She moved to Carrington this year.

She is survived by a son, Lawrence, Minneapolis; a daughter, Patricia Connery-Gugle, Denver; two sisters, Edna Carson, Reno, Nev., Bertha Foxworthy, San Diego; and six grandchildren.

Gladys Cool, 88, Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Gladys Flaig was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Dan and Martha (Miller) Flaig. She married Clifford Cool on Jan. 1, 1936, in Jamestown. He died Oct. 14, 1996. She was a clerk at JC Penney. She was secretary of Iowa State Bridge League. She also served as editor of its magazine, and was Waterloo’s first life master. She taught bridge and was a certified club director for six duplicate bridge clubs. She was an active member of First Congregational Church and Cub Scouts. She was a past president of Irving Parent Teachers Association and City PTA. She also served on the state board and was editor of its magazine.

She is survived by a son, Craig (Ann), Plano, Texas; two brothers, Elmer (Francis), Moorhead, Minn., and Dale (Mildred), Tioga, N.D.; two sisters, Myrtle Poseley and Vivian Jensvold, both Jamestown; a half sister, Jessie (Jerry) Aalgaard, Tennessee; and two granddaughters.

Services: held Oct. 29, Keearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo.
Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.

Ellis Crawford, 91, Jamestown, ND died Sunday morning March 10, 2002 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.

Ellis Crawford was born July 18, 1910 near Claremore, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph Crawford and Effie Mae (Strickland) Crawford. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity. In 1926 he entered the United States Marines and served until 1929.

He worked various jobs across the southwest United States. He and Florence Metz were married August 10, 1940 in California. He worked for the City of San Francisco in the IAM Machinist Union. In 1999 they moved to Jamestown, ND. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Union for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Crawford, Jamestown, ND, 2 sisters-in-law, Frieda (Metz) Rivinius, Gackle, ND, Aleeta Searl, Lamar, CO, 3 nieces, Maraleta (Bunny) Swenson, Milwaukee, WI, Margie Wrestler, Security, CO, Shirley (Harry) Kuhn, Steeleville, IL, 2 nephews, Gerald and Lizabeth Metz, Everett, WA, Donald and Julie Metz, Gackle, ND, and many grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday March 15, 2002 in the Hi-Acres Manor Chapel, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Bryce Tahran, officiating.

The interment will be made in Gackle Cemetery, Gackle, ND.

Florence Crawford, 92, Jamestown, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Florence Metz was born April 20, 1911, at the family farm home near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Ludwig and Leontina (Elhard) Metz. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and later attended Gackle High School. After graduation, she moved to Detroit, Mich., where she did housework until 1939. She then moved to San Francisco, where she worked in a General Merchandise Store. She married Ellis Crawford on Aug. 10, 1940, in California. They lived in California for many years and moved back to Jamestown in 1999. He died March 10, 2002.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Freida (Metz) Rivinius, Gackle; two nephews, Gerald (Lizabeth) Metz, Everett Wash., and Donald (Julie) Metz, Gackle; a niece, Shirley (Harry) Kuhn, Steeleville, Ill., and several grand nieces, nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Gackle, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.

George Cromwell, 62, of Kensal, ND died Saturday, May 15, 2010 surrounded by his family in Jamestown, ND.

George was born on June 2, 1947 on the family farm in Hurdsfield, ND, the son of Alexander and Marion (Newsom) Cromwell. He was raised and attended school in Hurdsfield, graduating from Hursdfield Public School. He later moved to the Kensal-Bordulac area in 1976, where he resided for many years. George made his living working for area farmers and for the last 17 years has been employed with the VanRay family.

George loved to hunt and fish. He especially enjoyed these activities when he could include his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting with friends.

George is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Cromwell, Fargo, ND, Becky (Clifford) Stoppleworth, Kensal, and Joni Cromwell, Aberdeen, SD; one son, Tony (Liza) Solberg-Kollman, Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Gail Martin, Goodrich, ND; one brother, James (Sandy) Cromwell, Harvey, ND; special friend, Darla Becker, Jamestown; one niece, Arnetta (Tim) Frueh, Buffalo, ND; and one nephew, LeRoy Cromwell, Fargo.

George was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Ila June; one brother-in-law, Bob Martin; and Joni’s mother, Cindy Schulz.

Joni Cromwell, 22, Aberdeen, S.D., formerly of Carrington, N.D., died Friday, July 16, 2010, at her home.

Joni Cromwell was born Oct. 4, 1987, at Carrington, the daughter of George and Cynthia (Schulz) Cromwell. She grew up in the Kensal, N.D., area and attended Kensal Public School. She entered the U.S. Army, served in Korea and Fort Hood, Texas, before being honorably discharged. She moved to Aberdeen. She was a member of the VFW, Aberdeen.

She is survived by two sisters, Tammy Cromwell, Fargo, N.D., and Becky (Clifford) Stoppleworth, Kensal; a brother, Tony (Liza) Kollman, Minneapolis, Minn.; a grandmother, Connie Schulz, Streeter, N.D.; and a special friend, BJ Kvasnicka, Aberdeen.

Lyle Merle Cumber, 67, Jamestown, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Cumber was born June 27, 1943, in Jamestown, the son of George and Gladys (Lester) Cumber. He attended Jamestown High School and later received his GED. He married Ruth Lange on June 25, 1966, in Jamestown. He worked for Jim’s Janitorial Service, White Drug, Community Warehouse, Baker Boy Bake Shop and Buffalo Lanes, Inc., all of Jamestown. He enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, golfing and hunting.

He is survived by two brothers, Jack and Kenneth (Janna), both Jamestown; two sisters, Janice (Ralph) Beckett, Casper, Wyo., and Debra (Dave) Nannenga, Otis Orchards, Wash.; and a special friend, Deb Franz, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, George Jr.; and sister-in-law, Marlene Cumber.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Nels Lillejord officiating.

Marlene Perleberg was born May 28, 1936, at Jamestown, the daughter of Wilbert and Lena (Siebert) Perleberg. She attended Jamestown Public Schools and grew up in the area. She married Jack Cumber on Jan. 17, 1953, at Jamestown. They lived in various cities around the United States while he served in the Army. She was a homemaker. In January 1977 they moved back to Jamestown. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Pam (Myron) Schepp, Jamestown; three sons, Jack Jr., Nashville, Tenn., Mark (Yong), Winston Salem, N.C., and Michael (Julie), Jamestown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Doris M. Curtis, 92, Luverne, N.D., formerly of Valley City, N.D., died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Doris Margaret Thornburg was born Feb. 8, 1917, on the family farm near Sanborn, N.D., the daughter of Orval and Minnie (Anderson) Thornburg. She married Adam Klein in 1937. They lived in Valley City. He died in 1942 in a drowning accident. She married William Curtis in 1946. They moved to a farm north of Valley City, in the Luverne community. She helped with farming chores, including milking the cows. He died in 1976. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and the show "Big Joe’s Polka Party."

She is survived by two sons, Gary Curtis, Luverne, and Robert (Jan) Klein, Valley City; two daughters, Verna Curtis, Valley City, and Carol Howe, Jamestown; a step-son, Nyle Curtis, Fingal, N.D.; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; six brothers, Stanley, Ward, Scott, Ted, Donald and one in infancy; and five sisters, Opal Iverson, Esther Bjornson, Betty Olson, Ivy McClafflin and Edith Pfaff.

Clifford Dahl, 89 of Cooperstown, ND died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in his home in Cooperstown, ND.

Clifford Leland Dahl was born on June 11, 1920 to John and Anna (Pearson) Dahl on a rural farm near Cooperstown. He attended Ayrea School in Washburn Township and High School in Cooperstown.

Clifford married Frances Bata on November 25, 1953 at St. Johns Chapel in Kensal, ND. As a young adult he traveled to Portland, Oregon where he worked in the shipyards for two years. Upon his return, he resumed farming and worked for the US Bureau of Animal Industries during the winters of 1947 and 1948. He farmed for over 40 years in Washburn Township until he retired in 1982. Clifford and his four sons built a new house in Cooperstown where he and Frances retired. His farm operation primarily consisted of small gains and row crop production. Also, during various stages, he milked cows, raised registered Suffolk sheep, hogs, and beef cattle. He also loved working his horses-both saddle and harness.

Clifford was a very active member of the Washburn Township Board for many years. Clifford spent winters in Arizona and California from 1985 to 1996 with his sons and their families. He enjoyed fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada with the boys, word scramble, dancing, and visiting with family, friends and relatives. He enjoyed driving his Jeep to check on the farm. He was very proud of his sons and took an active interest in their careers. He often accredited this to his best investment-a set of Work Book encyclopedias.

Clifford will be missed by his wife of nearly 57 years, Frances Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; four sons, Wayne (Mary) Dahl, Sacramento, CA; John Dahl, Lincoln, CA; Thomas (Ardys) Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; and Kevin (Roxanne) Dahl, Yuma, AZ; Six granddaughters, Ashley Dahl, Fargo, ND, Patricia Dahl, New York, NY, Lisa Dahl, Los Angeles, CA, Nicole Dahl, Yuma, AZ, Kathryn Dahl, Yuma, AZ and Angela Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; three brothers and one sister, Kenneth Dahl, Cooperstown, ND, Roy (Arlene) Dahl, Wichita, KS, Violet Walsvik, Hatton, ND and Norman (Lois) Dahl, Binford, ND.

Mary Dalke, 97, of Miles City died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City with her family at her side.

Mrs. Dalke was born on Jan. 15, 1911, in Pettibone, N.D., to Christian and Christina Morlock Walz. She attended rural schools in Pettibone while working on the family farm.

After her marriage to Ted Dalke on June 25, 1939, they moved to Glendive while farming in Marsh. They farmed there until moving to Kinsey where they remained for more than 17 years. They moved to Miles City where she and her husband operated Ted’s Upholstery for years and made Miles City her home until the time of her death. Mrs. Dalke was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City.

Her survivors include two sons, Loren (Joni) Dalke of Jamestown, N.D., and Arvin (Dec) Dalke of Jamestown; two daughters, LuAnn (Chuck) Pluhar of Cohagen and Ardella (Dave) Berzel of Billings; two brothers, Rudolph (Katherine) Walz of Jamestown and Rupert G. (Joan) Walz of Schewaing, MI; one sister, Caroline Herman of Jamestown,; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2003; three brothers: Christ, Jacob and Fred; and one sister, Emma Boley.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.

MILES CITY—Mrs. Mathilda Dalke, 74, died Tuesday [24 Dec. 1963] in a Miles City hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 3. She was born in Rumania [South Russia] Aug. 28, 1889, and came to North Dakota in 1914. She lived in Fallon and Kinsey before moving to Miles City in 1952.

Survivors include 2 sons, Ted Dalke, Miles City, and Herbert Dalke, Martinez, Calif., and two daughters, Mrs. Jake Neiffer, Glendive, and Mrs. Ford Adams, Grand Prairie, Tex.; A brother, Fred Kron, Fallon, 11 Grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Service are planned at 2 p.m. Friday in the Graves Funeral Home. The Rev. J.D. Lindley will officiate and burial will be in the Custer County Cemetery.

Meleta Dallmann, 92, Valley City, ND died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Meleta Reuther was born on August 26, 1916 on the family farm near Pettibone, ND to John and Caroline (Bollinger) Reuther. She grew up there and attended school. Meleta married Albert E. Dallmann on April 13, 1937 in Edgeley, ND. They made their home near Edgeley where they farmed for many years. They moved to West Fargo in 1988. Albert died on July 17, 1993. Meleta entered the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City in November of 2005.

She is survived by three sons, Wilbert (Betty) of Valley City, Eugene (Judy) and Brent both of West Fargo; daughter-in-law, Leah Dallmann of Edgeley; 7 grandchildren, Kurt (LaRae) Dallmann, Craig (Julie) Dallmann, Angela (Jay) Holkesvig, Brenda (Jim) Veach, Kevin (Allyson) Dallmann, Nancy (Joey) Botner, Paige Dallmann; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 4 step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Coon of Edgeley and Katie Rohr of Gackle, ND.

Gerhard Dammel Gerhard Gary Israel Dammel, 88, Ocala, Fla., formerly of North Dakota, died June 28, 2009, at Palm Garden, Ocala.

Mr. Dammel was born Oct. 18, 1920, in rural Stutsman Country, North Dakota, the son of Daniel and Kathrina (Meidinger) Dammel. He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in April 1942. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a bomber pilot in the Fifth Air Force. He was awarded a Bronze Star for service in the liberation of the Philippines. He was discharged in November 1945. He graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind. He married Arlene Steeve in 1950. He served as a school administrator in North Dakota and Minnesota for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Andrew (Maureen), Bloomington, Minn. and Peter, Audubon, Iowa; a brother, Reuben (Ann), Medina, N.D.; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Dancer died on November 3^rd at the St. Luke's Hospital, in Bellingham at the age of 43.

Sharon Kay Daniels was born Dec. 2, 1947, in Jamestown, the daughter of Hubert L. and Marie B. (Nelson) Williams, Streeter, N.D. She graduated from Streeter High School in 1965. She worked in the Streeter bank as a teller until she moved to Oregon in November 1967. She married James R. Daniels on March 17, 1971. They were divorced in 1986. She worked for Oregon Bank, First Interstate Bank of Oregon and Valley of the Rogue. She later worked as a bartender/bookkeeper until she retired in July 2008. She was an avid golfer. She enjoyed cats, figurines and the color purple.

She is survived by a daughter, Kimberlyn Daniels Hughey, Talent, Ore.; two sisters, Peggy Hoeckle, Jamestown, and Joyce Knisley, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Boyd (Judy), Streeter, and Udell, Roscoe, Ill.; and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glen; and a sister, Janice Grant.

Bram Elliot Davidson, 33, Reno, NV, formerly of Minot, died Monday, October 15, 2007, in his home from an apparent heart attack, surrounded by his loving family.

Bram was born November 27, 1973, in Mandan, ND, the son of Conrad and Karen (Mund) Davidson. He attended schools in Jamestown and Grand Forks, prior to graduating from Minot High School in 1992. While in high school and college, Bram worked for Nite Train Pizza, B. Dalton, the MSU Bookstore, MSU Summer Theatre, and was a camp counselor at Lake Metigoshe. Bram attended Minot State University, UND, and graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, with an MFA degree in theatre lighting and sound, in 2005.

Bram was united in marriage to Michelle Spencer, on August 13, 1999, in Minot. They moved to Reno, NV, in 2005, where Bram worked in the marketing and finance department for a software company.

Throughout the years Bram achieved many awards in acting, art, high school jazz band, Change of Pace, as well as band and choir. He is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He enjoyed painting miniature figurines, singing, dancing, and acting. Bram had many memorable performances at the Aleshire Theatre and the MSU Summer Theatre. He loved the color purple.

Judy Davis, 54, Sterling, Colo., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Sterling.

Judy Schultes was born Nov. 28, 1947, in Streeter, the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Kubler) Schultes. She graduated from Streeter High School in 1965. She attended Rapid City (S.D.) Business College for two years. After college she worked at Espe Printing Company for two years. In 1969 she moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked at Majestic Savings and Loan. She married Denny Davis on Oct. 17, 1970. In 1973 they moved to Goodland, Kan. In 1981 they moved to St. Francis, Kan., where they owned a small business, Pla-Mor Recreation for 16 years. In 1996 they sold the restaurant and went into "semi-retirement" in Sterling. He died in 1998. She worked part time at OK Auto Part, Sterling, until 2002, when she became ill. She was a member of Boots In Motion, The Sterling Does, and the Christian Women's Club. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and bowling.

She is survived by a son, Brian Don, Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Tobi Michelle Davis, Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, Clifford, Streeter, and Ruben, Jamestown; and a sister, Joyce Wentz, Williston, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Dyann Schweigert and Stella Schultes.

Patricia De Boer, 59, Hawarden, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, following a 12-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Patricia Ann "Pat" Kapp was born May 5, 1950, at Bismarck, N.D., the daughter of Edward and La Verne (Bosche) Kapp. She attended elementary school in Billings, Mont., then later moved to North Dakota and graduated high school at Medina, N.D. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State University before moving to Iowa. She married Ronald L. De Boer on Sept. 4, 1970, at Hawarden. She worked in health care, primarily in medical records for medical doctors, chiropractors and Hawarden Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Todd (Nichole), Bismarck, and Mitch (Buffany), Wayne, Neb.; her mother, Hawarden; a sister, Nora (Collette) Schlecht, Medina; three brothers, Dale (Sharon), Eaton, Colo., Brad (Elizabeth), Jamestown, and Wayne, Medina; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; a stepbrother, John Kapp; and her grandparents.

Doris Deckert, 84, Wing, N.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at a Bismarck (N.D.) hospital.

Doris Jean Morrison was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Walter Ray and Martha (Fode) Morrison. She grew up and attended school in Gackle, N.D. She married Henry Deckert on Aug. 15, 1942, in Jamestown. They farmed south of Arena, N.D. They moved to Wing in 1974. He died in 1975. She obtained her GED after his death. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Garry (Joann), Bismarck, N.D., Dennis (Charleen), Wing, and Randal, Rugby, N.D.; a daughter, Sandra (Ronald) Bird, Kenneth, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Melissa, Rugby; two sisters, Lois Simonson, Portland, Ore., and Marlys Krein, The Dalles, Ore.; a brother, Franklin (Kathy), Portland, Ore.; special friends, Mike, Rhonda, Hannah and Amber Braun and Jim Berger; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Darold Deile, 51, Phoenix, and formerly of Fergus Falls and Wolverton, Minn., passed away at his home on April 15, 2009, following a courageous fight with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Wishek.

Darold was born Feb. 11, 1958, in Wishek. He graduated from Wishek High School and attended Bismarck State College for a degree in agriculture. He started farming on the family farm where he had a nice dairy herd. He sold them to start a business with miniature horses that he worked with through the rest of his life. He loved the people he met and the places he traveled showing and selling them. When he moved to Phoenix, he started a business, 3-D Appraisals, Inc., for residential properties. Darold was always helping anything from stray animals to people he met that needed a place to stay.

He is survived by his parents, Allen and Werna Deile, Wishek; his sons, Cole and Brandon Deile, Fergus Falls; his siblings, Gloria Engel, Bemidji, Minn., Glen (Carrie) Deile, Wishek, Cheri (Brad) Brause, Fergus Falls, and David Deile, Fargo; his nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Kirsten Engel, Lindsey (Chris) Goldade, Cody and Devin Deile and Billie Jo and Jessie Brause.

George Charles DeMos, 83, Jamestown, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Mr. DeMos was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Geros) DeMos. He was raised by Della Rockett after his mother’s death. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. He entered the armed services at age 15. He served as a Merchant Marine and then in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II. He was honorably discharged. He attended the University of Minnesota Law School, specializing in criminal law. He transferred to Loyola University in California, where he was an honor student. He went into business for himself. He married Mae McKenzie on Nov. 11, 1951. He worked at Western Gear, California, and was transferred to the Jamestown division in 1977.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Elizabeth (Jerry) Navas, Kona, Hawaii, and Mary (Perry) Bump, Albert Lea, Minn.; two sisters, Mary (Bud) Chrest, Richfield, Minn., and Jeannie Dahl, Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren; and special friends, Duane and Vicky Olson and Delora Ben, all Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother; brother-in-law, Donald Dahl; and grandson, Gregory Frederick.

Esther Denning, 83, Fargo, N.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.

Esther Betsch was born July 2, 1925, in Logan County, North Dakota, 12 miles west of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Rudolph and Carolina (Kauk) Betsch. She grew up in the Gackle area. She attended Feska District School, south of Gackle. She worked for many people in the Gackle area. She married Clarence Denning on Jan. 11, 1948, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, N.D. They lived and farmed near Lehr, N.D., and Fredonia.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph and Donald, both California; and a sister, Anna Lippert, Ashley, N.D.

She was preceded in death by a child; her parents; four brothers, Reuben, Robert, Ted and Arthur; and two sisters, Edna Gross and Viola Stark.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Monday, Congregational Cemetery, Gackle, with the Rev. Timothy Blackman officiating.

Gerhardt O. Denning of Chisago City died Tuesday July 18th at The Margaret S. Parmly Residence at the age of 76.

Gerhardt was born August 24, 1929 at Wishek, ND to John and Lydia (Haupt) Denning. He attended Albrights Valley School, graduating from the eighth grade. He farmed with his father until he was inducted into the US Army. He served in Korea and was awarded the Purple Cross before his honorable discharge. He worked in an ore mine until moving to Tappen, ND and opening a grocery store. He then moved to Ashley ND to own and operate another grocery store, from there he moved to Anoka, MN and worked at Hoffman. He then farmed near Princeton and married his wife Joyce. After his health began to fail they moved to Pt. Pleasant Heights in Chisago City.

Gerhardt was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, brothers Allis, Enoch, sister Lillie. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Jeanette Beaudry, Karen Richter, Susan Whiteing, step children Susan McPhail, Vern Osterbauer, Lori Robertson, 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, siblings Mable Zimmerman, Lydia Bender. Norman Denning, Gloria Miller, half-brothers Glen and Carl Denning, step-sisters Gladys Wanner, Bernice Diede, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday July 23 at the Margaret Parmly Chapel with Rev. Ron Gerl, officiating. Intermits services were held on Monday at the Glendorado Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Doris Weber, officiating. Arrg. By the Grandstrand Funeral Home.

Mr. Denning was born May 13, 1934, on a farm north of Lehr, N.D., the son of Jacob and Mary (Janke) Denning. He attended country school and worked on the farm with his parents. He married Arlys Jean Wetzel on Nov. 3, 1955, at Fredonia Congregational Church, Fredonia, N.D. They lived at Lehr for one year and then moved to Edgeley where he worked as a farm laborer for 49 years before retiring in 2004. He enjoyed upholstering furniture and his dog, Snickers.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Deborah (LaVerne) Anderson, Edgeley; three sons, Dale (Charlene) and Darvin (Cherie), both Bismarck, N.D., and Dernel (Tracy), Jamestown; a sister, Hilma (Ray) Kauk, Napoleon; two brothers, Wilbert (Nadina), Gackle, N.D., and his twin, Arlon, Edgeley; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Lloyd and Elmer; and a granddaughter, Danielle.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley, with the Rev. Alan Eppen officiating.

Alton "Al" Deutscher, 79, Jamestown, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Deutscher was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Gustaf and Amelia (Hust) Deutscher. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural Gackle schools. He married Ella Gumke on Nov. 12, 1950, in Gackle. They farmed northwest of Gackle until 1962, when they moved to Jamestown. He worked for Melland Builders until 1980, when he started Al’s Overhead Doors, which he operated until his death. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and playing his accordian.

He is survived by his wife; three sisters, Alma Becker and Arlene (Gary) Geisinger, all Jamestown, and Adeline Giest, Fargo, N.D.; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Susan Lester officiating.

Amelia Deutscher, 94, Jamestown, formerly rural Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, July 15, 2002, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Amelia Hust was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Stutsman County, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Katherina (Enzminger) Hust. She received her elementary education and grew up on the family farm in the area. She married Gustof J. Deutscher on Nov. 23, 1926, at Streeter, N.D. They lived on the family farm 11 miles northwest of Gackle. In 1971 they retired and moved to Gackle. In 1998 they entered Gackle Care Center, Gackle, and in July of 2000 she moved to Rock of Ages, Jamestown. He died Jan. 2, 2001. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Gackle, Guiding Light Ladies Aid and the Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a son, Alton (Ella), Jamestown; three daughters, Alma Becker and Arlene Stahlhut, both Jamestown, and Adeline Geist, West Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Wesley, Rochester, Minn.; two sisters, Bertha Limesand, Jamestown, and Lydia Kleinknecht, Bismarck, N.D.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, three sisters, four sons-in-law and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Aneta Deutscher, 62, widow of the late Edward Deutscher, longtime resident of the Streeter, North Dakota Community died Sunday afternoon August 4, 1968 at the Dakota Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota where she had been hospitalized intermittently since September 1967 due to a chronic illness.

Aneta Reister was born September 5, 1905 at the family farm home five miles south of Medina in Stutsman County, North Dakota, the daughter of William Reister and Wilhelmina Broz Reister. She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she lived on her parents farm.

On October 15, 1925 she and Edward Deutscher were married at the farm home of her parents near Medina. They continued to farm until 1928, when they moved to Canada for three years and returned to Streeter in 1931, where they farmed until 1951, when due to his illness they discontinued farming. Following the death of her husband on November 18, 1964m she continued to live in Streeter.

Surviving are six children, Lydia (Mrs. Alvin Moos), Streeter, N.D.; Walter Deutscher, Orangeville, Calif.; /Alfred and Reinhold, both of Moorhead, Minn.; William, Valley City, N.D.; Wesley at home in Streeter; ten grandchildren; eleven brothers and sisters, Leopold Reister, Wenatschee, Wash.; Hilda (Mrs. Henry Diehl). Carson, N.D.; Julius Reister, Leona (Mrs. John Suko), both of Jamestown, N.D.; Theodore Reister and Herbert Reister, Medina, N.D.; Lavina (Mrs. Lou Del Monte), Isleton, Calif.; Ervin Reister, Sacramento, Calif.; Calvin Reister, Tacoma, Wash.; Meta (Mrs. Fred Wirtz), Irene (Mrs. Roy Kuch), Mandan, N.D.

The funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 1968 at the Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter with Rev. AS. Orman, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Streeter Cemetery at Streeter. Haut Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gust F. Deutscher, 97, Medina, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Deutscher was born Dec. 12, 1906, on the family homestead in southern Bloomfield Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, the son of Fred and Elizabeth (Kraft) Deutscher. He received his elementary education in Germania Township, then helped on the family farm. He was confirmed in 1922. He married Pauline Ross on Nov. 15, 1928, in Medina. They farmed with his parents for two and a half years. They then moved to a farmstead 10 1/2 miles south of Medina where they farmed for nine years. In 1940, they moved to a farm four miles south of Medina and continued to farm there until they retired in 1980. They then moved into Medina. He also worked part time for Jamestown Livestock for nine years. In the late 1960s, he worked with DeVries Construction, Valley City, N.D., and Traiser Electric, Jamestown. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, serving on the church board. He served on the Bloomfield and Chicago Township Boards and Medina Public School Board for many years. He enjoyed visiting.

He is survived by his wife; a son, David V. (Linda), Medina; and a granddaughter.

Jacob C. Deutscher, 80, pioneer and longtime resident of the Streeter, North Dakota Community died Tuesday morning November 5, 1968 at the Wishek Community Hospital in Wishek, North Dakota where he had been a patient for about two weeks due to a chronic illness.

Jacob Carl Deutscher was born January 31, 1888 near Yankton in Yankton County, South Dakota, the son of John J. Deutscher and Carolina Emhoff Deutscher. At the age of twelve years in 1900, he came with his parents to North Dakota when they settled on a farm homestead ten and one-half miles north west of Gackle in Germania Township in Stutsman County. Here he continued his education and grew to manhood on his parent's farm.

On February 6, 1913, he and Elizabeth Link Wagner were married in Zeeland, North Dakota. They began farming seven miles northeast of Streeter in Stutsman County, where they lived until 1941, when they moved into Streeter for their retirement. Following the death of his wife in 1964, he has resided at the Wishek Retirement Home in Wishek, North Dakota. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Streeter.

Surviving are his children, five daughters, Frieda (Mrs. Albert Schnabel), Lehr, N.D.; Lena (Mrs. Christ Martin), Bowman, N.D.; Bertha (Mrs. Gottlieb Aipperspach), Fessenden, N.D.; Esther (Mrs. Arnold Diede), Gackle, N.D.; Lorraine (Mrs. Ben Schroeder), Lincoln, Nebr.; twenty-one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Deutscher, Lodi, Calif.; Gust J. Deutscher, Gackle, N.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Ruede, Streeter, N.D.; Lydia (Mrs. Mike Weixel), Jamestown, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Herbert in 1964, one son in infancy, three brothers, and one sister.

The funeral service was held Friday, November 8, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Streeter with Rev. Leonard Strelau, pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Lehr, North Dakota officiating. Miss Pamela Dewald played a program of piano music as friends and relatives assembled and left the church. "Welch Ein Tag Wird Das Sein" was sung by a duet, Mrs. Carl Moser and Mrs. Reinhold Wittmier. "Beyond the Sunset" was sung by a duet , Mrs. Howard Schultes and Mrs. Dennis Dockter. Miss Pamela Dewald played the entire accompaniment.

The pallbearers were Reinhold Wittmier, Dennis Dockter, Clifford Schnabel, Maynard Dockter, Charles Boschee, and Earl Aipperspach. Burial was in the Streeter Cemetery with the Haut Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LaVonne Deutscher, 76, Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

LaVonne Dwelle was born June 5, 1925, at Chaseley, N.D., the daughter of Rolland and Hulda (Hoeff) Dwelle. She attended and graduated from Bowdon (N.D.) High School in 1943. She attended Jamestown College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught country school near Jamestown, later working as a waitress at Palace Cafe, Jamestown. She married Walter Deutscher Oct. 26, 1947, in Gackle. They lived in Gackle, where she owned and operated the cafe in Gackle, from April 1, 1962 to July 1, 1978. Following their retirement, they continued to live in Gackle. He died Dec. 11, 1995.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Howard) Roth, Mott, N.D., and Kaye (Bob) Carlson, Calvary, Alberta, Canada; two sisters, Arlene (Howard) Sukut, Jamestown, and Geraldine (Ron) Peabody, Princeton, Wis.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Raymond Deutscher, age 80, passed away Jan. 10, 2001, at Evergreen Health Center, Billings, of natural causes.

Ray was born May 24, 1920, at home in Germania, N.D., to George and Mathilda Deutscher. Ray grew up and was educated in the Gackle, N.D. area. On Nov. 23, 1941, he married Leah Meyer. Ray served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received a purple heart for injuries incurred during D-Day invasion at Normandy. He also received a bronze star. In 1955, Ray, Leah and family moved to Plevna, where he worked as an auto mechanic in the Plevna-Baker area.

In July, 1966, the family moved to Billings. Ray worked for Midland Dodge and then was self-employed as a mechanic. Ray and Leah also operated the snack bar at Jubilee Lanes and the Courthouse Cafe for several years before retiring in 1988. Winters were spent in Yuma, Ariz., and summers in Montana at the Sun Canyon Lodge, Choteau and East Glacier.

Ray was a proud member of Legion Post 35 in Baker for 46 years, Billings VFW 1634, Moose Lodge 558.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Leah of 56 years; his eldest son Leon Deutscher; grandson Kurt Deutscher; his parents; brother Walt and sister Hulda.

Ray is survived by son Don (Billie) Deutscher of Miles City; daughters Diane Ewell of Billings, LouAnn (Joe) Cook of Ennis; seven grandchildren, Marty Ewell, Krista (Dave) Hamilton, Shawn (Yami) Deutscher, Eric and Stacie Deutscher, Jerry and Joanna Cook and four great-granddaughters, Hollie and Morgan Ewell and Jessicca and Noelle Hamilton.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all Dad’s friends in Yuma and the Yuma Regional Medical Center for all their help in Ray’s last few weeks in Arizona until we could get him home to Montana as he wished. Thank you to all the friends in Billings who helped keep him company, the staff at Evergreen Health Center and Big Sky Hospice. You all helped to make his last wishes come true.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church 409 S. 36th St., Billings, on Monday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. Dad – we got you home.

The funeral for Walter Deutscher, 70, Gackle, N.D., will be at 10:30 Thursday in First United Church of Christ, Gackle. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 today and from 9 to 9 Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30, all in Haut Funeral Home, Gackle. He died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995.

Mr. Deutscher was born July 27, 1925, in Gackle where he grew up and attended school. He served in the United States Air Force. Following military service, he returned to Gackle. On Oct. 26, 1947, he married LaVonne Dwelle. They lived in Gackle where he worked for Northern Improvement Construction Co., until his retirement in 1990.

Walter B. Deutscher, 77, Streeter, N.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Deutscher was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Medina, N.D., the son of Edward and Aneta (Reister) Deutscher. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and graduated from Streeter High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946, served in the field artillery in Korea and was discharged in 1947. He married Irene Remmich on Sept. 2, 1951, in Streeter. They moved to Aberdeen, Wash., and then to Orangevale, Calif., where he was a general contractor. She died Jan. 8, 1992. He later returned to Streeter. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Orangevale. He was involved in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter, where he served as treasurer.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Cathy), Rio Linda, Calif., and Wayne (Jennifer), San Mateo, Calif.; two daughters, Karen (Don) Van Parys, Antelope, Calif., and Diane (Bill) Kidwell, Roseville, Calif.; three brothers, Alfred (Delores), Moorhead, Minn., William ‘Bill’ (Sandy), Streeter, and Wesley (Laurene), Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Lydia Moos, Streeter; a sister-in-law, Nancy Deutscher, Moorhead; and nine grandchildren.

Alfred Dewald, 80, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, in Wishek Community Hospital. Mr. Dewald was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Streeter, N.D. He grew up and attended school near Streeter. From 1941 to 1945 he served with the U.S. Army, including service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of World War II. After his military discharge, he returned to Streeter. Dean Allen Dewald passed into God’s care on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Wishek Retirement Home where he had been a resident for the past twenty-five years.

Dean was born to John and Tillie Dewald on May 21, 1957, at the Gackle, ND Hospital. Dean resided with his parents on the family farm until the age of twenty-three when he became a resident of the Wishek Retirement Home. Dean enjoyed sitting in his special chair looking out the picture window watching all the various activities at the farm while he was at home. While at the Nursing home he very much enjoyed traveling around the nursing home in his wheelchair. He also enjoyed going for drives around Wishek or sitting outside enjoying the fresh air and sunshine with his family.

Dean is survived by his Mother Tillie who resides at the family farm in rural Gackle, ND; sisters Mavis (Mike) Dahlgren of Jamestown, ND; Linda (John) Mindt of Mandan, ND; Kathleen (John) Dick of West Fargo, ND; and a brother Joel (Della) Dewald of Gackle, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to his severe health restrictions, Dean was never able to experience life as most people do… he will always be remembered as the "special son and brother" that shared his life with us for nearly 50 years and he will live on in our hearts forever! May God richly bless you Dean and give you the peace that you so richly deserve.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, John and his grandparents John & Lydia Dewald and John and Christina Schumaker.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday February 7, 2007 in the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Timothy Blackman, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND.

Diana I. Mertz was born March 31, 1937, in Cakota Township, Logan County, northeast of Napoleon, the daughter of Rudolf and Lydia (Rau) Mertz. She grew up and attended rural school in Cakota Township and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1955. After graduation she spent the summer on the family farm and later worked for the Schnabel Cafe, Napoleon. She also worked at the Logan County superintendent’s office. She married Emil Dewald on Nov. 16, 1956, at Napoleon. They lived on the Dewald family farm until September 1957. They purchased her parents’ farm where they lived until her death. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. She enjoyed sewing, German cooking, baking, crafts and polka dances.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Keith (Sheila) and Jeff (Janet), both Napoleon, and Darwin (Debra), Bismarck; a sister, Viona Morlock, West Fargo, N.D.; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon.
Visitation: noon to 7 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Elmer J. Dewald, 78, Bismarck, died March 25, 2003, in a Bismarck medical center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dr. Bradley Stoltenow and Rev. Dr. Alwin Reimnitz officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors by the VFW Post 1326 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Elmer was born in Fredonia, N.D., on May 7, 1925, to Adam and Dorothy (Oberlander) Dewald. He was reared and educated in Logan County. He married Helen Horsager in 1943. The same year he was inducted into the United States Army, where he served at Camp Wallace, Texas, and Camp Miles Standish, Miss. His overseas service was in England, France, Germany and Belgium, and ended with his being wounded in the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He entered Percy Jones General Hospital at Battle Creek, Mich., where he received a medical discharge.

While living in Napoleon, Elmer was elected county judge and held that position for 13 years. He was also the veterans' service officer. Elmer was a member of the Napoleon Lions Club, serving as president in 1961. He was a member of the American Legion, where he became the Fifth District Commander. Elmer spent many hours working on the first American Legion Club building. He was president of the County Judges Association from 1959 to 1961. While serving as scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts in Napoleon, six boys attained the rank of Eagle Scout, including his son, Derrald, and two sets of twins.

Elmer, Helen and family moved to Bismarck in 1962, where Elmer was employed by the North Dakota Supreme Court as the law librarian. He continued being active in the Boy Scouts during which time his son, John, earned the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He joined and became very active in the Disabled American Veterans. He was elected state commander of the DAV in 1975. He was a member of the International War Veterans Alliance, where he held the office of president and international director. Elmer joined the Bismarck Lions Club in 1962, where he continued his involvement in club activities. He held the office of club secretary for a number of years, was club president and zone chairman. He was elected district governor for 1974-75 and was chairman of the Board of Governors in 1975 and 1976. Elmer attended many Lions state, multiple district, and national conventions.

After 29 years of service with the Supreme Court, Elmer retired May 1, 1990. He continued his involvement with Lions and veterans' work. Elmer and Helen enjoyed traveling and visiting family and taking in confirmations, graduations and other special events.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Derrald and Evon Dewald, Moorhead, Minn., and John and Gail Dewald, San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Amy Dewald, Cari Drees, James Dewald, Jay Dewald, Christian Dewald and Alyssa Dewald; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Reuben Dewald; one sister, Viola (Andrew) Olson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter-in-law, Ann Dewald; four brothers, William, Fred, Albert and Ervin; and two sisters, Helen Otterstetter and Esther Massaro.

Elton Dewald, 73, Jamestown, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Dewald was born April 17, 1927, in Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school.

He married Erma Rivinius June 16, 1947, in Streeter. In 1953 they moved to Aberdeen, S.D., and in 1960 they moved to Jamestown, where he worked many years as a mechanic for Melland’s Inc. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by five sons, Mike, Grand Forks, N.D., Rod, Russell, both Jamestown, Eric, Devils Lake, N.D., Jeffery (Kimberly), Mount Vernon, Ill.; three daughters, Lottie (Douglas) Bischoff, Eden Prairie, Minn., Angie (Mike) Monczynski, Cicero, Ill., Teresa (Mike) Lautt, Fargo; three brothers, Alvin, Gerhardt, both Streeter, Helmuth, Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters, Jeannie Morrison, Edina, Minn., Betty Bauer, Renton, Wash.; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Thursday from 9-9 in Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Erma Dewald, 78, Jamestown, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Erma Fischer was born Sept. 29, 1922, on the family farm west of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Andreas and Barbara (Knodel) Fischer. She attended the local rural school in Streeter, worked on the family farm and grew up in the vicinity. She married Ephriam Dewald May 11, 1943. They lived on a farm north of Streeter. In July 1972 they moved into Streeter to retire. In 1988 they moved to the Gardenette, Jamestown, where they lived until he died in 1994. She moved to an apartment and then to Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, due to an illness. On June 19, 2001, she entered Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing cards.

She is survived by a daughter, Laverne (Roger) Harr, Jamestown; two sons, Leon (Darlene) and Vaughn (Robin), both Jamestown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.

Ervin Dewald, 79, of Billings, passed away Tuesday evening, July 15, 2008, after a short illness.

Ervin was born on the family farm west of Streeter, N.D., in Stutsman County, on Feb. 3, 1929. He was the second of seven children born to Peter Dewald and Alvina Eichele.

Ervin attended Liberty Country School and Dawson High School. He obtained a teaching certificate through Valley City College and taught second grade. From there, he went to work in the grocery store for his Uncle Chris.

Ervin met his future wife, Magdalena "Maggie" Stein in Steele, N.D., where they were married on Oct. 8, 1951. Together, they farmed and began a family on the farm they rented from his aunt and uncle, Walt and Ella Kroll, in Driscoll, moving to the Billings area in 1955.

Ervin's career took him down many paths, including carpentry, bar proprietor, lumber yardman, and after retirement worked part-time for the Billings' Parks Department, maintaining various city parks.

A great deal of enjoyment for Ervin was found while fishing and hunting with family and friends. Ervin also found joy in time spent with family, whether it was just a quick visit or spending time playing cards, telling stories, making homemade whiskey or meeting for breakfast Sunday mornings. Ervin was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge, serving as a Lt. Governor and Governor. He also enjoyed volunteering as the "Straw Boss" at the Heights VFW Post 6774.

Ervin was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years; his parents; brother, Melvin; sister, Frieda; one great-grandson, Daren; and one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Horgdal, Karen Reichenbach (George), Debora Dewald; two sons, Douglas (Teresa) and Larry; two brothers, Albert (Mona) and Emil (Diane); two sisters, Loreina Kienzle (Helmer) and Diana Lang (Larry); 17 grandchildren, Neil Horgdal, John Horgdal (Robyn), Angela Dewald (Anthony), Dustin Dewald (Susan), Toni Jo Dewald, Rebecca Rickett (Dan), Ben Reichenbach (Traci), Brian Reichenbach (Athena), Chayla Dewald (Jacob), Logan Brehm; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Horgdal, Chelsea and Nicholas Rickett, Brayden and Colby Reichenbach, Anthony Sarcos; and another great-grandchild to be born in January.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, noon to 8 p.m., Monday, July 21, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and prior to service on Tuesday. Cremation will follow services with a private family interment. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in memory of Ervin.

Gerhart Dewald, 76, Streeter, ND, died Monday March 12, 2007 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND.

Gerhart Dewald was born February 12, 1931 at Streeter, ND the son of John Dewald and Lydia (Kirschenmann) Dewald. He attended rural school where he received his elementary education and graduated from the Streeter High School in 1949. He later attended Valley City State College. He worked at the Streeter State Bank as a bank officer. He and Marie Zentner were married June 19, 1959 at Gackle, ND. They made their home in Streeter where he continued to work at the Streeter Bank until he retired in 1999 and they continued to reside in Streeter. He entered the Napoleon Care Center 2005.

He is a member of the Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter, ND, Streeter Lions having served as treasurer, Streeter Wildlife Club, Streeter Fire Dept. He also was a member of the Jamestown Elks and Eagles Club. He served as past Deputy District Governor of 5 NE Lions International, Lions Zone Chairman, president and secretary. He served on BAI Bank Board and was Streeter City Auditor for 19 years.

Surviving are his wife Marie, Napoleon, ND, one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sandra Dewald, Streeter, ND, one grandson Michael (Jody) Dewald, Fargo, ND, one great grandson, Parker, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Alvin Dewald, Streeter, ND, Helmuth Dewald, Bismarck, ND, Elton Dewald, Jamestown, ND, Jean Morrison, Edina, MN and Betty (Ron) Bauer, Renton, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Harry, John and an infant sister Eileen

The funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday March 16, 2007 in the Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter, ND with Rev. Chris Hogstad, officiating. The interment will be made in the spring at the Streeter City Cemetery near Streeter, ND. Visitation – 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. Thursday @ the funeral home in Gackle.

Dr. Gordon Wayne Dewald, 66, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in Rochester, Minn., after a battle with acinar cell pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Dewald was born July 22, 1943, in Jamestown, the son of to Christian and Mary Graf Dewald. He grew up in Dawson, N.D., and Jamestown. He married Laurel Ann Havelick on Aug. 16, 1964, in Jamestown. He received a bachelor’s degree from Jamestown College in 1965 and a masters degree in 1968 and a doctorate in 1972 from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He started at Mayo Clinic in 1972 as a fellow in clinical cytogenetics, which is a branch of genetics that focuses on the cells structure and function. He was known as an expert in the field. In 1979, he became director of the cytogenetics laboratory and spent the remainder of his career in clinical cytogenetics at Mayo Clinic. He retired in 2007. He enjoyed travel, Italian Renaissance art and churches, tennis and golf.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Stephanie Ann Dewald, Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Anthony Wayne (Nicole), Waynesboro, Va., and David Aaron (Tracey), Madison, Wis.; a brother, Stevan (Connie), Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Doris (Ferdinand) Dewald Hagel, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Rochester, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Ortloff officiating.
Visitation: one hour before the service at the church.

Gottfried Dewald, 85, Streeter, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at SCCI Hospital, Mandan, N.D.

Mr. Dewald was born Dec. 20, 1923, on the family farm northwest of Streeter, the son of Peter and Albina (Dorr) Dewald. He grew up and attended school in Streeter and worked on the family farm. He married Martha Ebel on Feb. 9, 1951, at Medina, N.D. They lived on a farm north of Streeter where he farmed until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Streeter, where he served on the church board. He also served the rural fire department.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Steven (Kathleen), Waterbury, Conn., and Mark (Pamela), Allen, Texas; two brothers, Otto (Lea) and Bennie, both Streeter; three sisters, Irene Giebnger, Sacramento, Calif., Pauline Landowski, St. Cloud, Minn., and Evangeline (Mike) Nenow, Jamestown; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Dewald, Jamestown, and June Dewald, Streeter; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ephriam, Philip, Alfred and Verner; and two sisters, Otillia and Leona.

Harry Dewald, 73, Jamestown, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Dewald was born Oct. 9, 1928, at the family farm in Logan County, near Streeter, N.D., the son of Fred and Mary (Speidel) Dewald. He attended the local rural school, where he received his elementary education and grew up in the vicinity. In 1956 he went to work as a farm laborer at the Walter Holzworth farm near Woodworth, N.D. He married Hertha Witt May 22, 1961, at Jamestown. They lived near Woodworth, where he continued to work on the Holzworth farm. In 1972 they moved to a farm near Sykeston, N.D., and worked for Polries Brothers in Sykeston. She died in 1995. He married Winifred Schmidt Oct. 21, 1995, at Carrington, N.D. They lived in Carrington. He retired in 1996. In 1999 they moved to Jamestown. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ivan (Sabrina), Columbia, Mo., Harlan (Brenda), Jamestown, and Herbert (Bonnita), Spiritwood, N.D.; a daughter, Holly (Mike) Dockter, Carrington; two stepsons, Terry (Helen) Nelson, Worland, Wyo., and Kelly Schmidt, Carrington; a stepdaughter, Karla (George) Nelson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Norman (Shirley), Bremerton, Wash., and Robert (Violet), Jamestown; a sister, DeLoris (Raymond) Eberhardt, Jamestown; 20 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a stepgreat-grandchild.

Helmuth Dewald, 83, Bismarck, ND, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at St.Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, January 12, at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Walter Schott officiating. Burial will be held in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, January 11, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Helmuth was born February 22, 1925, near Streeter, ND, to John A. and Lydia (Kirschenmann) Dewald. He was raised and educated there, graduating from Streeter High School. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Air Force in Okinawa. After returning from the service, Helmuth married Alice R. Spitzer on October 20, 1948, in Streeter. They began their life together on a farm eight miles southeast of Streeter. In 1955, they bought and moved to a farm seven miles north of Streeter, where they farmed until 1968. Helmuth and Alice moved to Bismarck in December of 1968 and Helmuth began working for the North Dakota State Lab. After one year, he transferred to the Central Data Processing Department as a computer operator and advancing to the position of Data Processing Coordinator for the Department of Human Services. Helmuth retired in 1990, turning his full attention to hunting and fishing. Most summer days he could be found in his boat, casting, trolling and competing with his buddies to catch the first and largest fish.

After 46 loving years of marriage, Helmuth’s wife Alice died in 1994. Helmuth went on to meet and marry Lorraine (Wolf) Steffens on June 12, 1998. He discovered a new interest, dancing. Helmuth and Lorraine were among the couples featured in Polka Spotlight in the spring of 2008. They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this last spring.

Helmuth’s life was one of devotion to family, friends, and community. In Streeter, he was a member of the School Board and the Church Board of the United Church of Christ. He was a life member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a 40 year member of First United Methodist Church in Bismarck.

Helmuth is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jeff Andrews, Minneapolis, MN; stepson, Jon Steffens, Bismarck, ND; stepgrandson, Brett Steffens, Camas, WA; one brother, Alvin Dewald, Streeter; ND; two sisters, Jean (Dewald) Morrison, Edina, MN, and Betty (Dewald) Bauer, Renton, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; one infant son, Bruce; his parents; four brothers, John Jr. Elton, Harry, and Gerhart; and one infant sister, Eileen.

John A. Dewald, 77, Gackle, N.D., died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, in MedCenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Dewald was born Sept. 10, 1922, near Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He married Tillie Schumaker Oct. 26, 1945, in Steele, N.D. They farmed near Gackle.

Marie Dewald, 75, Napoleon, ND, formerly of Streeter, died Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2008 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND.

Marie Ethel Zentner was born May 10, 1933 at Burt, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Grace (Stern) Zentner. They moved to Gackle where she attended school and graduated from Gackle High School. She worked at the Martin Drug Store from 1952 until September of 1967.

She and Gerhardt Dewald were married June 19, 1959 at Gackle, ND. They made their home in Gackle until 1960 when they moved to Streeter. Marie worked at the Farm and Home Hardware Store from 1967 until December of 1975 when she began employment at the Streeter Co-op as bookkeeper. Marie worked there for 29 years. She retired in 2004. Her joys and hobbies were helping her grandson as he grew up across the street, reading, crocheting, sewing and going for coffee.

Due to failing health Gerhardt entered the Napoleon Nursing Home and Marie entered the Napoleon Assisted Living Center in July of 2005. Marie entered the Nursing Home in the spring of 2006. Gerhardt passed away March 12, 2007.

Marie is survived by a son Timothy (Sandra) of Streeter, ND, one grandson, Michael (Jody) and two great grandsons Parker and Carter of Fargo. She is survived by two sisters, Florence (Johnny) Miller of Lemmon, SD and Margaret (Ronnie) Rains of Paris, TX, one brother Norbert (Jane) Zentner of Green bay, WI, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, brothers, Alex, Paul and Joseph, and parents.

In honor of her personal wishes there will be no formal services. To share your memories through the years will be a tribute to her. In memory of Marie share a smile, send a card or give from your heart to someone in need.

There will be a private family service at a later date, with inurnment at the Streeter Cemetery at Streeter, ND.

Pauline Dewald, 88, Streeter, N.D. died Friday, July 18, 1997, in Medcenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Pauline Kubler was born Oct. 10, 1908, near Streeter, where she grew up and attended school. On Jan. 27, 1929, she married Ludwig Dewald near Streeter. They lived in Streeter where they owned and operated the cream station. He died in 1966. Later she owned and operated a Laundromat in Streeter.

She is survived by a brother, Edwin, Madison, Wis.; and seven sisters, Albina Dewald, Lawndale, Calif., Bertha Dockter, Elizabeth (Jacob) Dockter, Edna Schultes, Elsie Schultz, all Streeter, Frieda Ackerman, Jamestown, N.D., and Esther (Arnold) Hoffer, Williston, N.D. ...

Philip Dewald, 92, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday August 20, 2008 at the Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND.

Philip Dewald was born January 6, 1916 on the family farmstead NW of Streeter, ND, the son of Peter Dewald and Albina (Doerr) Dewald. He received his elementary education at the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from July 9, 1930 until October 1, 1934 where he helped with building Medora and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

He entered the United States Army April 13, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He was with the 331st Engineering Battalion and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in WW II and served in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged from the Service September 3, 1945 at Ft. Devens, MA with the rank of Grade Tec. 5.

He and Bertha Kirschenmann were married June 7, 1946 at Medina, ND. They made their home on the farm NW Streeter, ND where he farmed until his retirement in 1982. They moved to Jamestown, ND in November of 2005 and have resided here since.

He was a member of the Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter. He served on the church board for many years, a member of the American Legion-Melvin E. Bender Post No. 265, and the Streeter Co-op Board. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha, Jamestown, ND; 2 sons, Darrel (Bonnie) Dewald, Jamestown, ND; David (Elizabeth) Dewald, Bismarck, ND, 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Kristen) Dewald, Sioux City, IA, Mike Dewald, Bismarck, ND, Ryan Dewald, Bismarck, ND, Daniel Dewald, Grand Forks, ND, Nicole Dewald, Jamestown, ND, 1 great grandchild, Maya Dewald, 3 brothers, Otto (Lea) Dewald, Gottfried (Martha) Dewald, Bennie Dewald, all of Streeter, ND; and 3 sisters, Irene Gienger, Sacramento, CA; Pauline Landowski, St. Cloud, MN; and Evangeline (Mike) Nenow, Jamestown, ND.

Rosella Dewald, 88, Jamestown, formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Rosella Graf was born Nov. 2, 1916, on the family farm southwest of Streeter, the daughter of John and Margaret (Oberlander) Graf. She grew up in the area and attended the local rural school, where she received her elementary education. She married Theodore "Ted" Dewald on Nov. 18, 1935, in Streeter. They lived and farmed on his parents’ farm for several years. They moved eight miles north of Lehr, N.D., where they farmed and owned and operated a rural grocery store and gas station for 10 years. They operated a store in Burnstad, N.D., for one year. In 1948, they moved to Streeter, where they owned and operated Dewald’s Fairway Store for 31 years, retiring in 1979. In April 1979, they moved to Jamestown. He died July 14, 1979. In 2002, she became a resident at Central Dakota Heritage Center. In 2004 she moved into Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter; Atonement Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle, Jamestown; Streeter Homemaker’s Club for 40 years; and German Ladies Aid of Streeter Lutheran Church, where she served as president. She enjoyed quilting at church, sewing, crocheting, traveling and playing bingo.

She is survived by three sons, Marvin (Pat), Portland, Ore., Delmer (Donna), Sun City West, Ariz., and the Rev. Ted Jr. (Marlene), LaCrosse, Wis.; four daughters, Madelyn (Archine) Hoffer, Bernice (Floyd) Schauer, and Janet (Earl) Johnson, all Jamestown, and Eileen (Jerome) Hehn, Fargo, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Esther Graf, Streeter; 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Pete, Adam, Ben and Emil; and five sisters, Emma Schumaker, Carolina Martin, Otillia Schumaker, Pauline Schumaker and Margaret Graf.

Russell Owen Dewald, 41, Bismarck, died April 7, 1998, in Bismarck, from injuries sustained in an airplane crash.

Mr. Dewald was born Dec. 6, 1956, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Otto and Lea (Buck) Dewald. He grew up and was educated in Streeter, N.D. He attended North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, N.D. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and majored in aviation at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He married Kathy Gale Brunner Aug. 20, 1982. In 1990 he graduated from the University of North Dakota. They lived in Bismarck, where he worked in the aviation field. He was employed with Corporate Air, Billings, Mont. He had his commercial pilots license, instrument rating, multi engine rating and was a flight instructor since May 1988. He had thousands of hours of flying time. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, fishing, hunting and car races.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Levi, and a daughter, Katie, all of Bismarck; his parents, Streeter; and a sister, Carey Brock, Modesto, Calif.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Church of God of Prophecy, Bismarck, with the Rev. Barry Lee Officiating.

Tillie Dewald, 86, Gackle, N.D. died Friday, Dec. 24, at the Mandan Living Center.

Tillie Schumaker was born Sept. 20, 1924, the daughter of John and Christina (Albright) Schumaker. She grew up and attended school in the Streeter, N.D., and Steele, N.D., areas. She married John Dewald on Oct. 26, 1945. She helped on the family farm. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, and was active in church and senior citizen activities in Gackle and Streeter. She enjoyed quilting and baking.

She is survived by three daughters, Mavis (Michael) Dahlgren, Jamestown, Linda (John) Mindt, Mandan, N.D., and Kathleen Dick, West Fargo, N.D., a son Joel (Della), Gackle; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Dean; four brothers Alvin, Reuben, Harry and Albert; and two sisters, Viola Lang and Alice Olson.

Verna Dewald, 85, Jamestown, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Verna Wentz was born April 23, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D., in Logan County, the daughter of Peter and Louise (Essig) Wentz. She grew up and attended the local rural school, where she received her elementary education, and helped on the family farm. She married Adolph Dewald on Oct. 18, 1934, at Streeter. They lived with his mother until 1935 when they moved to Montana. In 1936 they moved back to the family farm where they farmed until 1966, when they moved into Streeter. In 1967 they moved to Jamestown. Following their retirement they continued to live in Jamestown and later moved to Medina. He died May 21, 1993. She moved to the Gackle (N.D.) Care Center in 1997. In 2002 she moved to Central Dakota Village. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by two daughters, Berdella (Leon) Moser, Medina, and Marlious Kinzler, Jamestown; a brother, Milton (Tillie), Bismarck, N.D.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brother and five sisters.

Christina (Getty) DeWitt, 102, Gackle, ND died Tuesday January 23, 2007 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.

Getty was born March 31, 1904 near Jud, North Dakota, the daughter of Jacob F. Nitschke and Fredricka (Reinhardt) Nitschke. She received her elementary education in Jud rural and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.

She and Harry DeWitt were married October 31, 1922 at LaMoure, ND. They made their home in Alfred where they helped Harry’s dad farm. They later moved to a farm west of Alfred for 3 years. They returned to Harry’s home place where they lived and farmed for 16 years. In 1942 they moved to the outskirts of Alfred. Following the death of her husband February 10, 1979 she continued to reside in Alfred until 1997 when she moved to Gackle. She entered the Hi-Acres Manor in August of 2006.

She was a Charter member of the Grace Baptist church in Gackle, ND was a member of the Gleaner for many years.

Surviving are her son, James (Judy) DeWitt, Jud, ND, 3 grandchildren, Bryan (Barbara), Nolan (Linn) and Jason (Tammy), 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and 1 sister, Olga Madche, Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son, 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 27, 2007 in the Haut Funeral Home at Jamestown, ND with Rev. Timothy Blackman, officiating.

The interment will be made in the Alfred Cemetery at Alfred, ND.

Christina ‘Tiny’ DeWitt, 97, Gackle, N.D. died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

Christina Rose was born June 30, 1909, in Stutsman County near Gackle, the daughter of Konrad Sr. and Elizabeth (Remboldt) Remboldt. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up on the family farm. She married Alvin DeWitt on March 21, 1936, at Alfred, N.D. They lived in Alfred until 1944 when they moved to Gackle. They began farming near Alfred in 1950. He died Aug. 6, 1972, and she continued to live in Gackle. She entered the Gackle Care Center, Gackle, in 2003. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle.

She is survived by a daughter, Edris (Norman J.) Miller, Gackle; a sister-in-law, Erma Remboldt, Jamestown; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-granddaughters; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Konrad Jr., Edward, Christ, Albert and Arthur "Archie;" six sisters, Lizzie, Pauline, Philipina, Lydia, Bertha and Helen; and a great-grandson.

Mr. DeWitt was born Aug. 3, 1933, in Jamestown, the son of Harry and Christina (Nitschke) DeWitt. He received his elementary education at Alfred Public School, Alfred, N.D., and graduated from Gackle High School, Gackle, N.D., in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army on July 9, 1953, at Fargo, N.D., and served in Korea while stationed in Japan. He was discharged on June 3, 1955, at Ft. Carson, Colo., with the rank of corporal. He married Judy Wegner on Oct. 5, 1956, at Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Rosenberg, Ore., for a year, then moved to Alfred for a year and then to a farm northwest of Jud. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Mikkleson Township Board. He enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Bryan (Barbara), Hazen, N.D., Nolan, New Port, Minn., and Jason (Tammy), Bismarck, N.D.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Diede was born July 10, 1940, near Lehr, N.D., in McIntosh County, the son of Christian and Marie (Goebel) Diede. He grew up there and attended school, graduating from Lehr High School in 1959. He attended Ellendale (N.D.) Normal Industrial School for two years. He married Jane Heupel on April 29, 1962, at Wishek. Through the years he worked for Nickisch Co., Wishek Steel, Martell Inc. and Weisser Body Shop. He was also self-employed at Diede Body Shop and had currently been employed by Jim Weber Ford since 1986. He was a past Jaycee member, served as a director of the Wishek Association of Commerce, a member of Wishek Wildlife Club and the Wishek Fire Department, serving as its secretary and treasurer for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working in his garage, music and playing his keyboard.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Craig (Laurie) Diede, Eden Prairie, Minn.; a daughter, Lois (Jerome) George, Jamestown; a brother, Harlin (Arbie), Gackle, N.D.; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother- and sister-in-law, Larry and Joyce Dalke.

Arnold Diede, 83, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Diede was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Venturia, N.D. He moved with his family to Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Dec. 12, 1940, he married Esther Deutscher in Jamestown. They lived near Streeter. They later rented a farm near Cleveland, N.D., and in 1945 purchased a farm near Gackle, N.D., where they lived until they retired in 1976. They later moved to Jamestown, where he worked for Anne Carlson School for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ernie, Jamestown; a daughter, Darlene (Maynerd) Dockter, Medina, N.D.; two brothers, William (Ruth) and Elmer ...

Elmer Diede was born July 28, 1919 in Streeter, ND, the son of William Sr. and Sarah (Geidt) Diede. He attended Streeter High School and also attended Ellendale Normal at Ellendale, ND. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre in the Intelligence Reconnaissance Service. During World War II, he was awarded the Honor of "Silver Star". He was honorably discharged on October 1945. He married Lavern Jenner at Ashley, ND on November 11, 1945 at the First Baptist Church of Ashley. After their marriage they lived in Jamestown and Elmer started his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired after 37 years.

Elmer enjoyed sporting events and golfing. He worked part time at the Hillcrest Golf Course during his retirement. Elmer was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. "Auf wiedersehen"

He is survived by Lavern, his wife of 65 years; 2 daughters: Sara (Dennis) Norton, Plymouth, MN; Paulette (Greg) Olson, White Bear Lake, MN; 2 sons: Mark (Ruth) Diede, Jamestown, ND; Anthony (Kathryn) Deide, Saudi Arabia; 7 grandsons: Zachary, Joshua and Noah Norton, Micah and Jonah Olson; Matt (Christina) and Jonathan Diede; 2 granddaughters: Meghan Kerr and Gretchen Diede; a great-granddaughter, Emerson Diede; a sister, Adeline Rowe, Santa Barbara, CA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Walwin, Arnold and William Jr. and a sister, Florence Erberle.

Esther Diede, 92, Jamestown, died Monday, June 28, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Esther Deutscher was born Dec. 9, 1917, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Jacob Deutscher and Elizabeth (Link) Deutscher. She grew up and attended school near Streeter. She helped on the family farm. She married Arnold Diede on Dec. 12, 1940, at Jamestown. They lived on a farm five miles northwest of Gackle, N.D., until they retired in 1976 and moved to Jamestown. He died Nov. 12, 1996. In May 2010, she entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Gackle and Jamestown, and the Dorcas Society. She enjoyed gardening, baking, making quilts and crocheting afghans.

She is survived by a son, Ernie, Jamestown; a daughter, Darlene (Maynerd) Dockter, Medina, N.D.; a sister, Larraine Schroeder, Lincoln, Neb.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne and Merle Branstad; her parents; three sisters, Frieda Schnabel, Lena Martin-Bender and Bertha Aipperspach; and two brothers, Herbert and an infant.

Martha M. Diede, 96, Lehr, N.D., died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Martha Schlauch was born Jan. 18, 1914, at rural Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Christina (Schrum) Schlauch. She grew up there and attended a rural country school. She worked as a maid and children’s caregiver. She married Jacob Diede on Nov. 27, 1933, at Hazen, N.D. They lived at Alfred for a few years then moved to a farm 18 miles south of Kulm, N.D. She worked in the Grenz store for several years. She was a member of the Lehr Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucille (Gene) Rexine, Lehr, and Luella (Joe) Vakoch, Fargo, N.D.; four sisters, Johanna Fey and Esther Hildebrand, both Ashley, N.D., Hulda Gruenich, Aberdeen, S.D., and Ella Davis, Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a step-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters; nine brothers; a son-in-law, Elroy Ruff; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Ruff.

Mr. Diede was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Lehr, N.D. He attended school in Cleveland, N.D. In 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served in European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. Ruth Diede, 86, Jamestown, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Ruth Schroeder was born Dec. 15, 1921, north of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Fredericka (Spitzer) Schroeder. She attended the local rural school north of Gackle in Stutsman County, North Dakota. She grew up on the family farm. She married William Diede on March 20, 1944, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived on the Diede family farm near Streeter, N.D., where they farmed until 1980. They moved to Jamestown in 1990. After she retired she spent her winters in Arizona. In the summers of 1980-1991, she worked for a produce farm in Wapato, Wash. He died on March 20, 2008. She was a member of Streeter Seventh-day Adventist Church until 1991, when she became a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown. She held several offices in the church.

She is survived by four sons, Thomas (Nadeane), Cupertino, Calif., LeRoy (Diana), Grass Valley, Calif., Loren Lee (Dianna), Navajo Dam, N.M., and Amos Joel (Darlene), Buchanan, N.D.; two brothers, Jacob G., Fort Collins, Colo., and Benjamin, Aberdeen, S.D.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, two in infancy; five sisters, two in infancy; and a granddaughter.

William Diede, 92, Jamestown, formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Mr. Diede was born Oct. 14, 1915, in Venturia, N.D., the son of William Sr. and Sarah (Giedt) Diede. He received his elementary education at the country school south of Streeter and grew up in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He spent some time in the CCC Camp, Minnesota, and also worked two summers in the beet fields in Montana. He married Ruth Schroeder March 20, 1944, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived on the Diede family farm near Streeter, and farmed until 1980. They moved to Jamestown in 1990. They worked for a produce farm in Wapato, Wash., in the summers of 1980 to 1991. After his retirement they spent winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Streeter, until 1991 when he became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown. He was also treasurer for the Ketterling School District for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Thomas (Nadeane), Cupertino, Calif.; LeRoy (Diane), Grass Valley, Calif.; Loren Lee (Dianna), Flora Vista, N.M.; Amos Joel (Darlene), Buchanan, N.D.; a brother, Elmer (Laverne), Jamestown; a sister, Adeline Rowe, Santa Barbara, Calif.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Darren Purdy officiating.

Waldemar Diegel, 86, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Wishek Hospital, Wishek.

Mr. Diegel was born March 22, 1923, at Burnstad, N.D., the son of Johannes and Elizabeth (Holzwarth) Diegel. He attended the local rural school and helped on the family farm. In 1947 he bought a farm near Dawson and in 1949 he purchased the Ted Lang farm northwest of Wishek. He married Violet Eiseman on Nov. 13, 1949, at Wishek. They lived on the farm northwest of Wishek until 1995 when they moved into Wishek. He entered the Wishek Retirement Home in July 2007. He was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, and served on the church council. He also served as a director of the rural fire department and was a member of the Wishek Saddle Club.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Nancy Fettig, Billings, Mont.; and Sheila (Lyle) Sather, Frazee, Minn.; two sisters, Esther Fandrich, James-town; and Hulda Kitzman, Utah; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Sebastian Fettig; three brothers; and five sisters.

Fred Dittus, 95, Jamestown, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Dittus was born Sept. 5, 1907, on the family homestead south of Fredonia, N.D., the son of Jacob Jr. and Christina (Vetter) Dittus. He received his elementary education in the local rural school, grew up in the area, and helped on the family farm. He married Olga Remien on Nov. 5, 1947, in Napoleon, N.D. They lived on a farm south of Fredonia and farmed until 1971. They retired and moved into Fredonia. She died June 16, 1992. In 1994 he moved to Jamestown to live with his daughter, Linda. In 1996 he entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. He was a member of Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, where he served as deacon. He was also a member of Fredonia Rural School Board and Fredonia City Council.

He is survived by two sons, Herbert (Betty), and Jack, both Beulah, N.D.; two daughters, Rosemary (Richard) Debertin, Berthold, N.D., and Linda (John) Griffith, Jamestown; a half sister, Anneta (Alvin) Miller, Vista, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Albert, John and Reinhold; a sister, Martha; and a stepgrandson, Eric Griffith.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, with the Rev. Bill Bradley officiating.

FREDONIA, N.D. - Mrs. Kathrena Dittus, 90, died Jan. 2 at her home in Fredonia. She leaves 101 descendents, including one great great grandchild, 28 great grandchildren, 54 grandchildren and 10 children. Born in South Russia Aug. 6, 1853, she was married there to Jacob Dittus in 1873, and came to America in 1890. They settled first in South Dakota and later moved to Logan County, North Dakota, coming here by ox-drawn wagon. Mr. Dittus died June 2, 1940.

LEAD, S.D. - Leonard Dittus, 74, of Lead, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, at N.H. General Hospital in Deadwood.

He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Fredonia, N.D., to Gottfried and Clara (Findel) Dittus. He grew up on their family farm and attended country school in Fredonia.

On Oct. 31, 1952, he married Eileen Griesbach. They moved to Lead when Leonard started working for Homestake Mining Company as a trackman.

He was a veteran of WW II, a member of the VFW, and a live member of the Homestake Union.

He enjoyed fishing, animals, and his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Eileen, of Lead; two sons, David and Julie Dittus, of Aberdeen, and Jimmy Dittus, of Lead; two daughters, Dorothy and Pete Huck, of Billings, Mont., and Lois Butler, Tooele, Utah; five brothers, Gerhard Dittus, of Fredonia, N.D., Rueben Dittus, of Oakes, N.D., and Roy

Dittus, Willie Dittus, and Paul Dittus, all of Portland, Ore.; five sisters, Emma Miller of Wishek, N.D., Annetta Hauf, of Hunter, N.D., Alvina Otterstetter, of Oakes, N.D., Loraine Fischer, of Portland, Ore., and Marian Purcell, of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 18, at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Lead from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lead, with Rev. David Baer officiating.

Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.

Reinhold Dittus, 97, Wishek, N.D., formerly Fredonia, N.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, in Wishek Nursing Home.

Mr. Dittus was born July 30, 1900, in Fredonia, where he grew up and attended school. He worked on the family farm. On March 25, 1925, he married Helen Suko in Fredonia. They farmed near Fredonia. In 1956 they retired and moved into Fredonia. He entered Wishek Nursing Home in 1996.

He is survived by two sons, Hilbert (Esther), Lodi, Calif., Lee (Marilyn), Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Fred, Jamestown, N.D.; a half sister, Annette Miller, Jackson, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. ...

William "Willie" Dittus, 64, Portland, Ore., formerly of rural Fredonia, N.D., died Aug. 3, 2008, in Portland after fighting cancer for seven months.

Mr. Dittus was born Aug. 30, 1943, in rural Fredonia, the sun of Gotfried and Clara (Findel) Dittus. He attended the local rural school and Kulm (N.D.) High School. He joined the U.S. Army as a cook in 1967 and served for a year in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1970. He then moved to Portland. In 1974 started working for the City of Portland, retiring in 1999 after 25 years with the city. He did not miss one day because of illness during those 25 years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling.

He is survived by four sisters, Emma Miller, Wishek, N.D., Annetta Hauff, Hunter, N.D., Alvina Otterstetter, Oakes, N.D., and Marion Purcell, Tulsa, Okla.; and three brothers, Gerhard (Leona), Lehr, N.D., Roy, Portland, and Rueben, Fargo, N.D.

Adam M. Dockter, 90, of Billings, passed away early Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in Billings.

The son of August M. and Matilda Dockter, Adam was born March 3, 1919, in Streeter, N.D. On April 8, 1942, he married Christine Klundt. They farmed for two years before moving to Portland, Ore., where they both worked in the shipyards as welders. In 1945, they moved back to North Dakota and farmed.

In 1951, their daughter Vicki was born and the family moved to Billings in 1952, where Adam worked as a boiler maker welder until his retirement in 1978. Adam enjoyed traveling to visit his family in North Dakota, California and Oregon. He loved to fish and take care of his yard.

Survivors include his wife, Christine; daughter Vicki and her husband Jim; two brothers, Edwin of Streeter and Howard and his wife Lori of Gackle, N.D.; and two sisters, Viola Remboldt of Streeter and Ruth Fischer and her husband Elroy of Valley City, N.D.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral services will be II a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Peace Lutheran church, with interment to be in St. Luke's Cemetery, Streeter.

Adolph G. Dockter, 54, life long resident of Streeter community, died unexpectedly Sept. 2 at Jamestown Hospital. He had become ill at his home in Streeter and was taken to the hospital where he died within a few hours.

Funeral services were Monday in St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter with Rev. Walter W. Borchardt officiating. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Streeter. The body was at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle until taken to the church.

Mr. Dockter was born April 13, 1910, on a farm eight miles north of Streeter in Newberry Township, Stutsman County, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Dockter.

On Dec. 10, 1940, he and Florence Strehle were married at Streeter and lived on the family farm for 14 years. In 1954 they moved into Streeter where they were engaged in business until March, 1964.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Clayton Remboldt (Twila), Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Michael Dockter, at home; two grandchildren, and four bothers, Jacob G. Dockter, Streeter; Rudolph G. Dockter, Sacramento, Calif.; Gottlieb G. Dockter, Davis, Calif.; and Walter G. Dockter, Jamestown. His parents, five brothers and one sister precede him in death.

The funeral service for Adolph G. Dockter, Streeter, was held Sept. 7 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter with Rev. Walter Borchardt, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Harold Bachman played a program of organ music. Members of the Church Choir sang, with Mrs. Harold Bachman playing the accompaniment.

The pallbearers were Clinton Eiseman, Clyde Remboldt, Marvin Dockter, Ruben Dockter, Stanley Dockter, Richard Guthmiller. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Streeter with Haut Funeral Home of Gackle in charge.

Adolph J. Dockter, 78, Bismarck, N.D., died Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Bismarck.

Mr. Dockter was born June 28, 1926, in Streeter, N.D., the son of John F. and Barbara (Schafer) Dockter. He grew up and attended school in Streeter. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Division. In 1946, he returned to Streeter and helped on the farm and attended Agrivets School. He married Doris Lang of Streeter in 1949. They lived six miles south of Streeter where they ranched and farmed until 1956. They then moved to Streeter and continued farming and raising registered Angus. In 1984, they moved to Bismarck, where he worked for United Parcel Service for six years. He was a precinct committeeman and a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, Watershed Board, AMVETS and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He enjoyed time at the Streeter and Minnesota cabins, fishing, hunting, games of chance, tending trees, outdoors activities and visiting.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Stephen (Tammy), Wolverton, Minn., and Lonnie (Holly), Bismarck; a daughter, Cheryl (Rick) Graba, Bismarck; four brothers, Art (Irene), Streeter, Emil (Adeline), Surprise, Ariz., and Adam (Dolly) and Elmer ( Virginia ), both Bismarck; a sister, Rose (Percy) Horst, Bismarck; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ann Davidson, and Bertha, in infancy; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Dockter.

Albert Dockter, 70, Jamestown, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Dockter was born Sept. 30, 1934, at the family farm south of Streeter, N.D., the son of Edward and Bertha (Kubler) Dockter. He received his elementary education at the local rural school. He graduated from Streeter High School in 1952. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 26, 1957. He was honorably discharged Dec. 18, 1958, with the rank of private. He then worked in the mines in the Minneapolis area. He later moved back to Streeter where he worked in the cream station. He married Marjorie Schauer on March 4, 1962, at Napoleon, N.D. In 1969, they moved to Jamestown, where he worked at Dodgson Appliances until 1993 when he started Al’s Appliance Service. He retired in 2000. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, and the Eagles Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Kristi (Chuck) Janzen, Jamestown; two sons, A.J. (Tracy), Jamestown, and Bryan, Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Raymond, Golden, Colo., and Melvin, Hopkins, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

Alice Kathryne (Fuehrer) Dockter, 78, passed away from a cancerous brain tumor on December 26, 2008 at her home in Fargo, ND with her family at her side. Alice was born on September 9, 1930 in Jamestown, ND to Henry and Kathryne (Ebel) Fuehrer.

Alice accepted Jesus into her heart at the age of 6 at Special Meeting Services at St. Paul’s EUB in Jamestown. Also, at the age of 6, she started playing piano for midweek Bible services. From there, she was asked to play for all of the special meetings and church services that came through Jamestown. This continued throughout her lifetime. She graduated from Jamestown HS in 1948 and Jamestown College with a degree in Psychology in 1952. During these years, she played organ for the "Heart to Heart" broadcast, and for church.

She married Theodore F. Dockter, Jr. on August 4, 1951 in Jamestown. They moved to Iowa and to Oregon where Ted finished divinity school. She continued as a partner in Ted’s ministry at: Stickney, SD; Bismarck, ND; Hebron/Taylor, ND; Mott /Newburg, ND; McClusky/Goodrich, ND; Edgeley, ND; and Page/ Hope/Finley, ND. She played piano or organ at all of the churches that they served and she taught hundreds of piano and organ students across the state of ND. They retired in 1996 from the ministry and moved to Fargo, ND; where they continued in part-time ministry with Calvary United Methodist Church. Alice loved playing the organ for the church and helping lead the worship service.

Alice enjoyed reading her Bible and other Christian books and playing music. The most memorable part of her life was her involvement in her children’s activities of music and sports. These passions grew with the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the amount of time she would spend playing games or music with them. Her priorities were God first, her husband second, and her family third.

She is survived by her husband, Ted (Fargo); sons, Dwight (Judy), Portland, ND; Ron (Joni), Portland, OR; Doug (Cheryl), Dickinson, ND; Tim (Debbie), Fargo; Daughter, Deb (Trace) Gunsch, Heidelberg, Germany; sixteen grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Leah Fuehrer, Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Albert and Reuben.

Arthur Dockter, 87, Wishek, North Dakota died early Tuesday February 6, 2007 at the Wishek Home for the Aged in Wishek, ND.

Art Dockter was born November 13, 1919 at Streeter, ND, the son of John F. Dockter and Barbara (Schaffer) Dockter. He attended the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he worked on the family farm.

He and Irene Donat were married November 12, 1944 in Streeter, ND. They made their home on the family farm home south of Streeter until he entered the Wishek Home for the Aged December 15, 2005. Irene passed away December 20, 2006.

He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND. Art is a Life member of Eagles #2337. He served on the ND Sunflower Council, Logan County FHA Committee. He was chair of St. Lukes Lutheran Church for nine years, president of Streeter Co-op Oil Co., Logan County Weed Board and Streeter Lions Club. He was also recognized for his outstanding service to the community.

He is survived by 1 son, Clydell (Mary) Dockter, Streeter, ND, 2 grandsons, Shane (Tina) Dockter, Bismarck, ND, Brandon Dockter, Streeter, ND, 1 great granddaughter, Demy, and 3 brothers, Rev. August F. Dockter, 84, Streeter, died Jan. 16, 1987 at a Wishek hospital. Services were held Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Streeter, with burial in the Streeter Lutheran Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 20, 1902, in Neudorf, Russia, and came to the United States in 1907 with his parents. The family settled 10 miles northwest of Streeter, where Mr. Dockter attended rural schools. He married Pauline Muller on Jan. 8, 1925, near Gackle. The couple farmed south of Streeter from 1926 until 1954, when they retired and moved into Streeter. He was a director of the Miller School District board for 12 years, a director of the Farmers Cream Station and Streeter Rural Fire Department, a deacon in St. Luke's Church and a member of the Streeter Senior Citizens Club.

He leaves his wife; a son, Lawrence, Streeter; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Alice) Voegele, Bismarck; four grandchildren, a brother, Rudolph, Wishek, and a sister, Mrs. Mathilda Zenker, Lodi, CA. (Haut Funeral Home, Gackle).

Barbara Schaffer was born March 22, 1987, near Streeter where she grew up and attended school. She married John F. Dockter Jan. 30, 1919, at Streeter. They farmed in that area until 1946, when they moved into town. He preceded her in death. She entered the Missouri Slope Nursing Home in Bismarck, N.D., earlier this year.

She is survived by five sons and a daughter, Elmer, and Arthur, both Streeter; Adolph, Adam, and Mrs. Percy (Rose) Horst, all Bismarck; and the Rev. Emil, Elk Mound, Wis.; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. (Haut, Gackle)

Bertha Dockter, 89, Jamestown, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Bertha Kubler was born Sept. 5, 1911, on the family farm near Streeter, N.D., the daughter of John and Eva (Geinger) Kubler. She grew up and attended a local rural school in Streeter, receiving her elementary education. She helped on the family farm. She married Edward Dockter Nov. 30, 1933, at Streeter. They lived on a farm seven miles south of Streeter, where they farmed until retiring. In 1982 they moved to Streeter. He died Nov. 3, 1992. In 1998 she entered the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Streeter Senior Citizen.

She is survived by three sons, Albert, Jamestown, Raymond, Golden, Colo., and Melvin, Hopkins, Minn.; a brother, Edwin, Madison, Wis.; six sisters, Albina Dewald, Los Angeles, Calif., Frieda Ackerman, Apple Valley, Minn., Esther Hoffer, Williston, N.D., and Elizabeth Dockter, Edna Schultes and Elsie Schultz, all Streeter; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and four sisters.

Delores Stein was born Nov. 16, 1924, at the family farm home north of Steele, N.D., the daughter of August and Ida (Hoffman) Stein. She grew up there and attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She married George Dockter on Jan. 2, 1952, at Tappen, N.D. They lived in Steele and the surrounding area until moving to Eldridge, N.D., in 1967. In 1973, they moved to Jamestown. She worked in the laundry department at the North Dakota State Hospital from 1974 until she retired in 1990. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, sewing, baking, her cats, Blackie, Mama and Fuzzy, and her dog, Libby.

She is survived by three sons, George Jr. (Susan) and August (Tally), both Jamestown, and Mike (Holly), Carrington, N.D.; three daughters, Georgia (Michael) Britzman, Montpelier, N.D., Lori (Paul) Evjen, Jamestown, and Tammy (Jim) Sahr, Mulberry, Kan.; two sisters, Louise Albrecht, Steele, and Mary Ann Quale, Arena, N.D.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Lance Konrad; her parents; and two brothers, Francis and Melvin.

Eleanor Dockter, 77, Oakes, N.D., died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes.

Eleanor Lang was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Lehr, N.D., the daughter of Konrad and Bertha (Witt) Lang. She grew up and attended school in Streeter, N.D., graduating from Streeter High School in 1947. She married Ruben Dockter on Nov. 18, 1951, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter. They lived in Streeter until moving to Oakes in 1965. She worked for Visto’s Implement, Oakes, for many years. He died Jan. 17, 1997. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Oakes. She enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by a daughter, Gwendolyn (Glenn) Knutson, Hawley, Minn.; two sons, Bryan, Detroit, and Perry (Pam), Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Doris Dockter, Bismarck, N.D., and Judy (Lyle) Boughton, Branson, Mo.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Galen; a brother, Marvin; and a sister, Evelyn Remmick.

Erma Dockter, 68, Fargo, N.D., formerly Streeter, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, after a long battle with cancer.

Erma Joan Schauer was born March 7, 1936, in Streeter, the daughter of Emil and Martha (Kuch) Schauer. She attended Streeter Public School and graduated from Streeter High School in 1954. She married Lawrence R. Dockter on June 3, 1956, in Streeter. They lived in Stockton, Calif., for a short time. They returned to Streeter and lived on the farm where he was born and grew up, four miles south of Streeter. She worked at Gackle Care Center, Gackle, N.D., from 1988 to 1993. They moved to Fargo in 1999. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and Homemakers, and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts and sewing.

She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Pamela Dockter, Bismarck, N.D., Linda (Harry) Cose Jr. and Sandra Dockter, both Fargo, and Ronda (Tim) Erbele, Streeter; two brothers, Dennis and Stanley, both Streeter; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Karen Kraft; and a grandson, Cassidy Erbele.

Esther Dockter, 93, Streeter, ND died Mother’s Day Sunday May 10, 2009 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Esther Dockter was born December 14, 1915 on the family farm home 6 miles North of Streeter, ND, the daughter of John Dockter and Margertha (Finck) Dockter. She received her elementary education at the Newbury Township School #2, and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.

She and Rudolph Dockter were married February 12, 1935 on her parents’ farm. They bought Rudolph’s parents’ farm which was 8 miles North and 2 miles West of Streeter, and started grain and cattle farming for 41 years, retiring in 1975 and moved to Wishek, ND. In 1995 they moved to Streeter, ND. After the death of her husband on October 29, 2001, Esther continued to reside in Streeter. On March 13, 2007 she moved into the Hi-Acres Manor nursing home in Jamestown, ND.

She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND, WELCA, Ladies Aid, Merry Mixers Homemakers. She also volunteered at the Streeter Senior Center.

She loved her family dearly. She was active in vegetable and flower gardening, farming, sewing, quilting, cooking, and especially making kuchen.

She is survived by her children, Lenard (Linda) Dockter, Abilene, TX; Darrel (Marge) Dockter, Medina, ND; Reo (Debbie) Dockter Clarkston, MI; James (Tudy) Dockter, Bismarck, ND; Judy (Wolf) Eder, Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Kenneth (Florence) Dockter, James-town, ND; Mark Dockter, Streeter, ND; Dottie Elhard (Kent), Cleveland, ND; 24 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Art Dockter, Sacramento, CA; Reuben Dockter, Sacramento, CA; 1 sister, Viola Zentner, Sacramento, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son, Paul in infancy, 5 sisters, Emma, Lydia, Matilda, Mary, Pauline, and 3 brothers, Philip, Elmer, and Theodore.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday May 16, 2009 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND with Rev. Chris Hogstad, officiating.

Mr. Dockter was born Nov. 30, 1916, at the family farm home south of Streeter, the son of John M. and Katherina (Schaffer) Dockter. He grew up in Streeter, where he attended the local rural school and received his elementary education. He entered the U.S. Army Feb. 7, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn., serving in the European/African/Middle Eastern Theater. On Nov. 12, 1945, he left the service with the rank of PFC at Camp McCoy, Wis. He farmed with his brother, August, until 1947. He then attended school in Minneapolis, Minn. He later worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a depot agent, working in the Montana area for 30 years and later in Summit, Mont., until retiring. In 1999 he moved to Streeter. He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church and a charter member of the American Legion Post 265. He enjoyed playing his mandolin and mandola.

He is survived by two brothers, Jacob (Lizzy) and Gottlieb (Doris), both Streeter; two sisters, Magdalena Guthmiller, Napoleon, N.D., and Caroline Schatz, West Fargo, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Esther Dockter, Fargo, N.D.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Robert Pestal officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Haut Funeral Home, Gackle, and one hour before the service at the church.

Gerhard Dockter, 85, Sacramento, Calif., died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Sacramento.

Mr. Dockter was born March 27, 1922, near Streeter, N.D., the son of John C. Dockter and Katherine Kirsch-(en)man. He served in Europe during World War II and earned, among other medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross. He managed several service stations in the Sacramento area. He retired from Macy’s automotive division in downtown Sacramento.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Janet (Ron) Newell and Nancy (Ken) Payne; three sisters, Emma Hill and Frieda Teske, both North Dakota, and Emily Schauer, California; a sister-in-law, Blanche Bugge, California; a brother, Edwin Rott, North Dakota; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services: held July 18, Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento.

Irene Donat was born April 17, 1924, at Streeter, the daughter of John and Lydia (Grenz) Donat. She grew up and attended school and graduated from Streeter High School in 1943. She married Arthur J. Dockter on Nov. 12, 1944, in Streeter. They lived on the family farm six miles south of Streeter. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 24 years as a tax aide. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, and the Women’s ELCA. She served on several boards including the State Board of North Dakota Cancer Society in the Logan County Social Service Board and South Central Library, where she received the 1992 North Dakota Trustee Citation Award. She also served on the church council, taught Sunday school and was a national weather observer for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Wishek, N.D.; a son, Clydell (Mary), Streeter; a sister, Sadie Dockter, Fargo, N.D.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Irene Donat was born April 17, 1924 at Streeter, the daughter of John and Lydia (Grenz) Donat. She attended the local school and graduated from Streeter High School in 1943.

She and Arthur J. Dockter were married November 12, 1944 in Streeter. They made their home on the family farm 6 miles south of Streeter.

Jacob J. Dockter, 92, Streeter, N.D., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Mr. Dockter was born April 23, 1911, in Streeter, the son of John M. and Katherina (Schaffer) Dockter. He attended the local rural school, received his elementary education in Miller School #19 and grew up in the area, where he helped on the family farm. He married Elizabeth Kubler on Nov. 12, 1936, on his parents’ farm southeast of Streeter. They lived on a farm five miles southeast of Streeter where he farmed. He worked on the farm for 35 years until he retired in 1971, when they moved into Streeter. During their retirement they enjoyed traveling to visit family in Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, California, Virginia, Wyoming and many other places. In the fall of 2001, he moved into the Wishek Home for the Aged. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and served on the church council. When the current church building was being constructed he brought his horses and a scraper to help dig the basement. He also served on the cemetery board and was a member of Streeter Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth (Rosalyn), Gackle, N.D., and Leroy (Karen), Laramie, Wyo.; three daughters, Irene (Russell) Powers, Burke, Va., Arlene (Frank) Levy, Littleton, Colo., Esther (Dustin) Fandrich, Washburn, N.D.; a brother, Gottlieb, Streeter; a sister, Caroline Schatz, West Fargo, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.

John M. Dockter, 81, pioneer and longtime resident of the Streeter community died Monday morning September 26, 1966 at the Wishek Hospital in Wishek, North Dakota where he had been a patient for about ten days following an illness of three years.

He was born April 19, 1885 in Neudorf, South Russia, the son of Michael Dockter and Karolina Krieger Dockter. He attended school and grew to manhood in his native land, and came to the United States with his parents in June 1903. He and Katherina Schaffer were married in 1907. They lived on the farm homestead six miles northwest of Streeter in Stutsman County until 1919 when they moved to a farm seven miles southeast of Streeter in Logan County. In 1944 they moved into Streeter for their retirement.

He is survived by his wife, seven sons and three daughters, Edward J. Dockter, Magdalena (Mrs. Adolph Guthmiller), Gottlieb J. Dockter, all of Streeter, Jacob J. Dockter, Gackle, N.D., John J. Dockter Jr., Ludwig J. Dockter, both of Jamestown, N.D., Fred J. Dockter, Culbertson, Mont., Ida (Mrs. Ida Heyd), Grafton, N.D., August J. Dockter, Fargo, N.D., Carolina (Mrs. Carolina Schatz), West Fargo, N.D., thirty-one grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Elizabeth Schwecke), Oakland, Calif., Katherine (Mrs. Emil Fey[Frey]), Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Philip, killed in the Pacific Theater in World War II, one brother and three sisters.

The funeral service for John M. Dockter, Streeter, North Dakota was held Friday, September 30, 1966, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Streeter with Rev. Walter Borchardt, pastor, officiating.

The pallbearers were E. E. Schaffer, Ernest Remboldt, Elroy Fischer, Howard Dockter, Elmer J. Dockter, and Arthur J. Dockter. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Streeter with the Haut Funeral Home of Gackle in charge of arrangements.

Lola A. Dockter, 87, Streeter, N.D., died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Lola Robinson was born April 25, 1917, at Central Lake, Mich., the daughter of Edgar and Bertha (Burdick) Robinson. She received her elementary education in the local school and graduated from Central Lake High School in 1934. She married Clifford Pike on June 12, 1937, at Central Lake. They lived in Joliet, Ill. He died in 1957. She married Edwin Dockter on Oct. 12, 1963, in Flint, Mich. They lived in Flint until moving to Streeter in 1975. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 265 Auxiliary, Streeter.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin; two stepdaughters, Kathleen L. Dockter, Flint and Alice J. Dockter, Alameda, Calif.; a stepson, Trent (Wendy) Dockter, Flint; a brother, Edgar, Shelton, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; a son, Charles Pike; a daughter, Sharon Phillips; four sisters, Meta, Mary, Agata and Louise; and two brothers, Sharold and Victor.

Louise Dockter, 87, Jamestown, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Louise Gienger was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Bloomenfield Township east of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Paul and Mary (Siedel) Gienger. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education, grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. She married Philip Dockter on June 23, 1936, at her parents’ farm near Streeter. They lived on the farm of his parents until 1964, when they became caretakers at the Crystal Springs Youth Camp, Crystal Springs, N.D. In 1975, they retired and moved to Rochester, Minn., where they lived for two years. In 1977, they moved to Jamestown. He died April 4, 1990. She moved to Stewartville, Minn., in 1999 to be closer to her family. In 2003, she returned to North Dakota and entered Central Dakota Village. She was an active member of the Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown, served as deaconess, and Sunday school teacher, and in Women’s Missionary Fellowship, Awanas and the Gideon’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis P. (Dian), Medina, N.D., Abel (Nancy) and Ivahn (Carolyn), both Rochester; four sisters, Maggie Mayer, Sacramento, Calif., Pauline (Willie) Wood, Yakima, Wash., and Helen (LeRoy) Lang and Marion Brenneise, both Jamestown; a brother, Wilmer (Erma), Jamestown; two sister-in-laws, Jeannine Berlin, Valley City, N.D., and Alvina Gienger, Sun City, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Iva Jean Nagel; and four brothers, Peter, Jake, Paul and Jacob.

Martha Dockter, 90, Fargo, N.D., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo. Martha Schultes was born June 20, 1909, in Gildendorf [Gueldendorf], Russia. As an infant she moved with her family to Streeter, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On June 19, 1931, she married Theodore Dockter in Jamestown, N.D. They lived in Wishek, N.D., Edgeley, N.D., Streeter, Freewater, Ore., and Yakima, Wash., before settling in Jamestown. They worked as carpenters, building houses in Jamestown, Valley City, Lisbon, Hebron and Belfield, all North Dakota. They later lived in Bismarck, N.D., and Page, N.D., before moving to Fargo in 1996. He died that same year. ...

Mathilda Dockter, 105, Streeter, N.D., died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Ashley (N.D.) Medical Center.

Mathilda Schlenker was born July 31, 1895, at Klostitz Bessarabia, South Russia, the daughter of John and Christina (Schlag) Schlenker. In 1902, at the age of 7, she came to the United States with her family. The two youngest of seven children became ill and died in New York. The family settled in the Gackle area, where she grew up. She attended the local rural school, where she received her elementary education. She married August M. Dockter Jan. 19, 1915, at Neudorf Lutheran Church west of Gackle. They lived on his parents' farm for a number of years. They moved to Streeter in 1953 when they retired. He died Jan. 7, 1954. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church and the Streeter Senior Citizens.

She is survived by four sons, Edwin (Lola), Streeter, Adam (Christine), Billings, Mont., Harold, Eureka, Calif., and Howard (LaRaine), Gackle; two daughters, Viola Remboldt, Streeter, and Ruth (ElRoy) Fischer, Gackle; three sisters-in-law, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, nine brothers and three sisters.

Rudolph F. Dockter, 92, Streeter, N.D., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, N.D.

Mr. Dockter was born June 18, 1909, at Newbury Township, southwest of Medina, N.D., the son of Friedrick and Caroline (Seigle) Dockter. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew up in the area. He married Esther Dockter Feb. 12, 1935, near Streeter. They farmed with his parents until 1939. He continued farming the land and purchased it in 1949. They raised Hereford cattle and dairy cows and grain farmed. Starting in 1961 he drove school bus for Streeter School for 14 years. He was on the Newbury Township Board and School Board for many years. In 1975 they retired and moved to Wishek, N.D., where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Jamestown for a short time. In 1995 they moved to Streeter. He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter, and the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife; six sons, Lenard, Abilene, Texas, Darrel (Margie), Medina, Reo (Debbie), Clarkston, Mich., James (Clara), Bismarck, N.D., Kenneth (Florence), Medina, and Mark (Penny), Streeter; two daughters, Judith (Wolf) Eder, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Dorothy "Dottie" Elhard, Jamestown; and 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sadie Dockter, 87, Fargo, ND died early Wednesday morning May 2, 2007 at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND.

Sadie Donat was born January 12, 1920 at Streeter, ND, the daughter of John Donat and Lydia (Grenz) Donat. She received her elementary education at the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.

She and Walter Dockter were married September 9, 1938 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home on her parent’s farm 11 miles south of Medina, ND, and farmed there until the fall of 1957. They moved to Jamestown.

In 1985 they moved to Fargo, ND and resided at Trollwood Village. Following the death of her husband in 1997, she continued to reside in Fargo and in 2005 she moved into the Bethany Homes in Fargo, where she has resided since.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Stanley (Dorothy) Dockter, Glendale (Pat) Dockter, 1 daughter, Dyan (Donald) Clemens, all of West Fargo, ND; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 grandchildren, Roger Dockter, Julie Dockter, Jenifer Dockter, 1 brother, Ruben, and 1 sister, Irene.

Walter G. Dockter, 83, Fargo, N.D., died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.

Mr. Dockter was born Sept. 9, 1913, near Medina, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Sept. 9, 1938, he married Sadie Donat in Jamestown, N.D. They lived on her parent's farm near Medina until 1957. They then moved to Jamestown where he worked as an electrician for Goodman Electric and Jamestown Pipestem Electric for 23 years. He retired in 1980. They moved in 1985 to Fargo and lived at Trollwood Village.

Walter H. Dockter, 79, Medina, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Medcenter One Mandan Living Center, Mandan, N.D.

Mr. Dockter was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Streeter, N.D., the son of Jacob and Martha (Dockter) Dockter. He grew up and attended school in Streeter. He worked on the family farm, for the railroad, and for Libby McNeill Cannery. He worked in the shipping department of Campbell Soup, Sacramento, Calif., from 1955 until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by a daughter, Kerri (Leonard) Ostrom, Granite Bay, Calif.; two sons, Larry (Deanna) and Darren, both of Sacramento; two sisters, Loraine Schlaht, Bismarck, N.D., and Erna DuVall, Jamestown; a brother, Lloyd (Virginia), Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Oberlander; and four brothers, Richard, Reuben, Harry, and LeRoy.

DOCKTER, Walter
Age 79, Medina, N.D., formerly of Sacramento, Calif., passed away on February 7, 2009. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on February 12, 2009, at St. Luke American Lutheran Church, Streeter, N.D. Walter was born January 7, 1930, in Streeter. He worked 34 years for Campbell Soup, Sacramento. Walter enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Kerri and Leonard Ostrom, Granite Bay, Calif.; two sons, Larry and Deanna Dockter, and Darren D. Dockter, all of Sacramento; two sisters, Loraine Schlaht of Bismarck, Erna DuVall of Jamestown; one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Virginia Dockter, Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents Jacob F. and Martha Dockter; one sister, Pauline Oberlander, four brothers, Richard, Reuben, Harry, and LeRoy Dockter.

Caroline Dockter-Ouren, 86, Jamestown, died Friday, June 29, 2001, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Caroline Mittleider was born March 1, 1915, in Tappen, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Oct. 28, 1936, she married Arthur Dockter in Bismarck, N.D. In 1951, she began working for the North Dakota State Hospital. In 1954, they moved to Jamestown. She retired in 1983. He died in 1990. On Jan. 8, 2001, she married Stanley Ouren in Aberdeen, S.D.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Evangeline Teske, Bismarck, Virginia (Darrell) Bjerke, Jamestown; a foster son, Wally Eich, Bismarck; two foster daughters, Delores Eich, Valley City, N.D., Annie Dorchek, Gackle, N.D.; two stepsons, Steve Ouren, Greg Ouren, both Fargo; three brothers, Rudy (Minnie), Israel (Mary Lou), Harry (Margaret), all Tappen; two sisters, Emma Kramlich, Medina, N.D., Mary (Emil) Kramlich, Bismarck; 16 grandchildren; 5 stepgrandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Alvina Docktor, 81, Jamestown, died Oct. 1, 2005, at her farm home under hospice care.

Alvina Lorraine Burkle was born April 17, 1924, in Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Rudolph and Lydia (Batsch) Burkle. She attended the School of the Deaf in Devils Lake, N.D. After finishing school, she worked for Ebertz Cafe in Jamestown. She married Francis Docktor on Aug. 25, 1953, at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown. They lived in Homer Township on the Docktor family farm. She enjoyed going to auctions, her flowers and her pets.

She is survived by her husband, Francis; four sons, Idele and Tom, both Jamestown, Jim (Joyce), Alamo, Nev., and Leonard (JoAnne), Tonopah, Nev.; a sisters, Jonah (Duane) Rhode, Watertown, S.D.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Milbert, Roland, Clifford; and a sister, Eleanor Burkle.

Francis "Frankie" Docktor, 84, Jamestown, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at the St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D.

Mr. Docktor was born July 23, 1925, in Jamestown, the son of Frank J. and Mary (Gottsman) Docktor. He received his education in Homer Township, North Dakota. He entered the U.S. Army on March 12, 1953, and served in the Korean conflict. He was discharged Feb. 22, 1955, and returned to North Dakota. He married Alvina Burkle on Aug. 25, 1953, in Jamestown. He farmed on the family homestead in Homer Township. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending auction sales.

He is survived by four sons, Idele Burkle, Jamestown, Jim (Joyce) Docktor, Alamo, Nev., Leonard (Janet) Docktor, Tonopah, Nev., and Tom (Shannon) Docktor, Jamestown; a brother, Don, Blue Springs, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Grace Docktor, 87, Jamestown, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Grace Kathryn Ellis was born Dec. 31, 1921, at Bowman, N.D., the daughter of Benjamin and Mabel (Degen) Ellis. She grew up and attended school in Bowman. The family moved to Jamestown and she graduated from Jamestown High School. She married Alvin M. Docktor in August 1946, at Aberdeen, S.D. Her first teaching job was in South Dakota. They returned to North Dakota where she taught at the Anne Carlsen Center, Jamestown. He died Oct. 26, 2001. She enjoyed reading, traveling and playing bridge.

She is survived by a daughter, Fern (Richard) Pokorny, Dickinson, N.D.; two sons, Robert (Smithe), Helena, Mont., and Dr. William (Paulette), Missoula, Mont.; a brother, Benjamin Ellis, Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Lawrence Edward Doering, 80, Kulm, N.D., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Wishek (N.D.) Nursing Home.

Mr. Doering was born March 7, 1922, on the family farm southwest of Kulm, the son of Edward and Maria (Grosz) Doering. He grew up in the rural Kulm area and attended school at Springfield #4 and Kulm High School. After receiving his education, he began farming near Kulm. He married Edna Frank on Oct. 3, 1943, at her parents' farm near Kulm. The couple farmed near Kulm until 1964 when he began working for Brower Plumbing and Heating in Kulm. He later purchased the company and renamed it Doering Plumbing and Excavating. He operated the business until 1994 when he retired due to health problems. He became a resident of the Wishek Nursing Home on Aug. 22, 1994. He enjoyed fishing, camping, telling jokes and stories and visiting.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carolyn (Dennis) Stoen, Fergus Falls, Minn.; three sisters, Bertha Hanald, Omaha, Neb., and Lydia (Eldon) Carlson and Violet (Clifton) Bjur, both Kulm; six grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, two brothers, Edwin and George, and two sisters, Else and Ruth.

Christine Dollinger, 83, Devils Lake, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.

Christine Schrenk was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Eureka, S.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Sophia (Hoover) Schrenk. She grew up and attended school in the Venturia, N.D. area. She lived in Jamestown for 12 years before moving to Gackle, N.D., where she lived for a number of years. She entered Devils Lake Good Samaritan Center in 2002 where she lived until her death. She enjoyed bingo, bowling and other games and watching "Wheel of Fortune."

She is survived by two daughters, Pam (Lyle) Matthews, Devils Lake, and Kathy Richards, Bismarck, N.D.; a brother, Walter, Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ernest Domke, 84, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Domke was born Aug. 3, 1922, at Gackle, N.D., the son of Fred and Hilma (Koehler) Domke. He grew up and received his elementary education in Gackle. He graduated from Gackle High School in 1941. He then helped on the family farm south of Gackle. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 26, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan. He was discharged Nov. 23, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Wash., with rank of tech 5. He married Viola Gienger on Sept. 4, 1949, at Gackle. They lived in Fargo and Edgeley, N.D. In 1957, they moved to Gackle, where they operated a dry cleaning business. In 1960, they moved to Jamestown, where he was employed at the North Dakota State Hospital. He retired in 1988. In October 2003, he moved to Hi-Acres Manor. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, James-town.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Cheryl Dewald, Jamestown; a son, Keith (Sally), Jamestown; a brother, Kermit, Denver; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. John Donat, 68, longtime resident of Streeter, died Saturday at Jamestown Hospital.

Funeral services were Wednesday in the EUB Church in Streeter with Rev. A. J. Borchardt of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Streeter Cemetery. The body was at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle.

Mrs. Donat the former Lydia Grenz was born March 18, 1896, near Venturia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Grenz. In 1906 she moved with her family to a farm northwest of Gackle where she attended rural schools.

She and John Donat were married March 23, 1916, in Jamestown, and they established their home on a farm seven miles northeast of Streeter where they farmed until 1938 when they moved into Streeter where her husband operated the city dray line and did commercial trucking.

Surviving are her husband; two daughter, Mrs. Walter G. Dockter (Sadie), Jamestown, and Mrs. Arthur J. Dockter (Irene), Streeter; four grandchildren; two brothers, Ferdinand Grenz, Medina, and Ausef Grenz, Lockford, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Katie Rivinius, Streeter.

Rita Donegan, 85, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, N.D.

Rita Josephine Dailey was born March 18, 1924, in Warwick, N.D., the daughter of Mark and Florence (Boyle) Dailey. In 1934, her family moved to New Rockford, N.D. where she attended St. James Academy and graduated in 1942. She worked in a clothing store in New Rockford until 1946 when she married Francis John Donegan and moved to Jamestown.

She was a busy wife and mother. Rita was an involved member of St. James Basilica parish and a strong supporter of Saint John’s Academy. She was active in the restoration of the Basilica and helped start the Confraternity of Christian Education Program for St. James parish, now known as the Faith Formation. She served meals for Bishops and clergy on special occasions. She was a member of St. James Tabernacle Society, Immaculate Conception Circle, and the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary. She was involved in the local railroad community and her large extended family.

She was an excellent seamstress and especially liked doing alterations. For several years she worked for Keith’s Clothing and sewed formals for her daughters and many of the girls in the community. She was especially proud of the vestments she made for the priests of St. James. Rita was known and loved for her hospitality. She was particularly proud of her Irish heritage. Her Irish meals were tasty, served with tea on distinctive, colorful table settings, complete with candles and seasonal decorations. Friends of all ages enjoyed an evening of cards at Rita’s house or a night gathered round the patio fire pit eating s’mores.

Survivors include her husband, Francis; a son, Michael (Katie), Seattle, WA; two daughters, Peggy (Al) Clark, Las Vegas, NV, and Mary Donegan, Boulder, CO; her brother, Joseph (Susan), Minot, ND; five grandchildren, Brianna and Megan Donegan, Kara Clark, and Brian and Daniel Goldstein. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Patrick.

Robert Arnold "Bob" Donegan, 86, Jamestown, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Donegan was born March 27, 1923, at Plankington, S.D., the son of James and Marie (Dunn) Donegan. The family moved to Edgeley, N.D., in 1930, where he attended elementary school. They later moved to Jamestown. He graduated from St. John’s Academy High School, Jamestown, in 1941. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad as an engineer/fireman. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and served with the 4th Marine Division at Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Jamestown and resumed working for the railroad. He married Audrey Moug on Aug. 26, 1950, at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. He worked for the railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. James Basilica, Jamestown. He served as state legislative director for the United Transportation Union and was secretary/treasurer of the North Dakota AFL-CIO from 1964–1977 and was president in 1977. He enjoyed watching hockey, supporting youth hockey and American Legion baseball in Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Kelly (Rebecca), Jamestown; a daughter, Jennine Albrecht, James-town; two brothers, Francis, Jamestown, and Victor, Pueblo, Co.; two sisters, Patricia McCommon, Jamestown, and Percy Gilman, Auburn, Wash.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Donald; three sisters, Dorothy Donegan, Janice Richards and Mary Exner; and a son-in-law, Tim Albrecht.

Lucille Kedalo was born Feb. 4, 1922, on the family farm in Logan County near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Nick and Anna (Spilloway) Kedalo. She attended grade school in Neudorf Township and the ninth grade in Gackle. In 1936, she moved with her family to Adrian, N.D., where she continued her high school education. She graduated from Fargo (N.D.) High School in 1939. She moved to Chicago, where she worked in a defense factory. She returned to Fargo and graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught at schools in Balaton, Minn., Needles, Calif., and Oxnard, Calif., for 32 years before she retired. She enjoyed reading.

She is survived by a son, John (Vonnie), Mill Creek, Wash.; a daughter, Nicole (John) Davis, Thousand Oaks; four sisters, Lillian Holl, Zena (Winfred) Bierley and Frances Pendray, all Jamestown, and Eleanor O’Hern, Pewaukee, Wis.; and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and three brothers-in-law.

Memorial service: Saturday in Thousand Oaks.

Dean Lee Dormanen, 55, died Dec. 6, 1998, at his home in Fargo, ND. He was diagnosed with cancer in June 1997. Through this, he has fought the good fight. He has now finished the race. He has kept the faith.

Dean was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Jud, ND, to Clifford and Florence Dormanen. His father preceded him in death in 1990. The family moved to Fargo where he attended Jefferson Elementary, Agassiz Jr. High and graduated from Fargo Central in 1961. Dean graduated in Social Sciences from NDSU in 1967 and attained his Master's in Geography from UND in 1991. He served briefly in the US Marine Corps in 1962. He taught school in Frazee, MN, and Walhalla, ND. He lived and worked in the Seattle, WA, area for 10 years, returning to Fargo in 1982. Funeral services for (Mildred) Vivian (Mrs. William) Dormanen of Crystal, Minnesota were held Friday, April 8, 1966 at the St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. A. C. Lehman officiating. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mrs. Dormanen died April 5, 1966 after being a patient for only a few hours at the University Hospital at Minneapolis.

Vivian Forsty was born June 2, 1926 at Gackle, N. Dak. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arvi Forsty. She graduated from Gackle High School in 1945. She was married to William Dormanen on October 13, 1947. Mr. Dormanen died in 1964.

Mrs. Dormanen is survived by a son, Bruce 17, a junior at Crystal High School, her mother, Mrs. Arvi Forsty who has been living with her at Crystal, Minn.; Three sisters, Mrs. Allen Borgon (Norma), Spokane, Wash. Alma Dorr, 86, Wishek, N.D., formerly of Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Alma Rudolf was born Dec. 14, 1920, on the family farm 17 miles southwest of Wishek in McIntosh County, the daughter of August Rudolf and Maria (Meidinger) Rudolf. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the area where she helped on the family farm. She married John A. Dorr on May 22, 1943, at the Army Chapel, San Luis Obispo, Calif. After his discharge they returned to North Dakota and lived on the family farm southwest of Gackle. In 1959 they moved to a farm three and a half miles south of Gackle. After his death on Sept. 11, 1995, she moved to the Wishek Home for the Aged in Wishek. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Gackle, and the American Legion Post 250 Auxiliary in Gackle. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Douglas, Wishek; a daughter-in-law, Lu Dorr, Milnor, N.D., a brother, Paul (Estella), Wishek; three sisters, Lorene Hochhalter, Wishek, Luella Vilhauer, Vancouver, Wash., and Mable (Richard) Justice, Alexandria, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Rudolf, Wishek; a grandchild; four stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Glenn Dorr, 57, Milnor, N.D., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at his home under hospice care.

Mr. Dorr was born June 13, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of John and Alma (Rudolf) Dorr. He grew up in Gackle, N.D., and graduated from Gackle High School. He attended area colleges, graduating with an education degree from Valley City (N.D.) State University, where he earned his master’s degree. He taught school in Selfridge, N.D., and was principal and a teacher at Karlsruhe, N.D. In 1979, he moved to Milnor, where he was the principal, social studies teacher and athletic director. He married Lucille Schultz on May 7, 1983, in Fargo, N.D. He coached basketball, football and track, was a bus driver, and a fundamental part of getting the Milnor Track Complex accomplished. He was also active in the community and area, serving on the Satellite Club, city council, Bison Booster Club, as president of the Wild Rice Conference and on the Dollars for Scholars Committee. He was also recognized as district, regional, and state Athletic Director of the Year in 1998. He retired in 2000, and farmed for area friends and worked with the Sargent County Weed Board. He also served as principal and teacher for the Wyndmere (N.D.) Public Schools in 2001 and 2002. He was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church, and served on the church council, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed cruising town, taking trips to the casino and playing cards and dominoes.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Chris (Laurie) Hehn and Chad (Jacque) Hehn, both Kindred, N.D., and Mark Kraft, Bismarck, N.D.; three daughters, Vickie (Marlin) Krump, Hankinson, N.D., Kimberly (Jason) Gooding, Milnor, and Amanda Dorr, Wahpeton, N.D.; his mother, Wishek, N.D.; a brother, Douglas, Wishek; and eight grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, with the Rev. Jerry Carlson officiating.

Funeral services for Glenn Dorr, 57, Milnor, were held Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Milnor Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jerry Carlson officiating. He died July 28 at his home.

Glenn Dorr was born June 13, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of John and Alma (Rudolf) Dorr. He grew up and graduated from high school in Gackle and later attended area colleges, graduating with an education degree from Valley City State University. Glenn taught school in Selfridge and was the principal and a teacher in Karlsruhe. He earned his master's degree from Valley City State University. In 1979, Glenn moved to Milnor, where he was the principal, social studies teacher and athletic director.

Glenn enjoyed spending time with friends and family, cruising town with Lu, taking trips to the casino, and playing cards and dominoes.

Survivors include his wife, Lu, of Milnor; three sons, Chris (Laurie) Hehn and Chad (Jacque) Hehn, both of Kindred, and Mark Kraft of Bismarck; three daughters, Vickie (Marlin) Krump of Hankinson, Kimberly (Jason) Gooding of Milnor and Amanda Dorr of Wahpeton; his mother, Alma, of Wishek; a brother, Douglas of Wishek; and eight grandchildren.

Glenn was preceded in death by his father, and two infant twin brothers.

Pallbearers were Jerome Johnson, Gary Jenson, Jerry Schwan, Bruce Daugherty, Bruce Hackey, Larry Kretchman, Don Warren and Richard Anderson.

Burial was in Milnor Lutheran Cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Milnor was in charge of arrangements.

Gust Dorr, 82 of Everett WA passed away peacefully at his home with loving family members by his side.

Gust was born in Gackle, ND on October 19, 1920. He resided in the Gackle area until fall of 1965 when he and his family moved to Everett, WA. Gus was employed in construction business until his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed his family, yard, and working with his red dump truck. Gus loved making wood crafts and sharing them with others. His garage was a favorite hangout for friends and neighborhood children needing bike and toy repairs. Gust was always willing to help others in need. He will be greatly missed.

Gust leaves behind his loving and caring wife Vi, of 58 years; 3 daughters, Ardyce of Sun Lakes, AZ, Kathy (Dwight) Podoll of Snohomish, WA, Janel (Dac) Wilde of Newport, OR; 5 grandchildren, Amy, Jesse, Matthew, Wendy, and Robyn; 1 great grandchild, Tyler.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 11, at Cedar Cross United Methodist Church in Everett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of Snohomish County or the SONshine Society.

The funeral for John A. Dorr, 76, Gackle, N.D., will be at 10:30 Saturday in First United Church of Christ, Gackle. Visitation will be from noon to 9 today and from 9 to 9 Friday in Haut Funeral Home, Gackle. He died Monday, Sept. 11, 1995.

Mr. Dorr was born Nov. 7, 1918, near Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 near Kramer, N.D. He then served with the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific Theater. He married Alma Rudolph May 22, 1943, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. After his military discharge they returned to the Gackle area where they farmed. He had served as a Logan County, N.D., commissioner.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Douglas, Gackle, Glenn (Lu), Milnor, N.D.; a brother, Gust, Everett, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Johnson, Napoleon, ...

Abbie Drenth, 96, Oakes, N.D., died Wednesday, March 10, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes.

Abbie Turnbaugh was born Dec. 17, 1912, in Edgeley, N.D., the daughter of Charles and Flora (Orr) Turnbaugh. She attended school at Edgeley and graduated from Edgeley High School. She attended Ellendale Normal for one year and received her teaching certificate. She married Richard Drenth on June 29, 1933, at Edgeley. They lived on a farm near Jud, N.D. She taught in rural schools in the Jud area for eight years. He died in 1995. She later moved to Gackle, N.D., and then to Oakes, where she entered the Good Samaritan Society.

She is survived by a daughter, Audrey (Dick) Reese, Anacortes, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Ann Turnbaugh, Orlando, Fla., and Mildred Witkowski, Crete, N.D.; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Good Samaritan Society Chapel, Oakes, with the Rev. Tim Blackman, officiating.
Visitation: one hour before the service at Good Samaritan Society Chapel.

DeWayne Dronen went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, October 19th 2005. DeWayne was born in Cleveland, ND, on March 30th 1928, to Olga and Mallius Dronen. The family later moved to Jamestown, ND, where he graduated from Jamestown High School.

DeWayne served his country in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948. DeWayne married Lillian Moser on November 7th 1954, in Jamestown.

DeWayne and Lillian moved to Fargo, ND, in 1964. DeWayne worked as a furniture salesman in the Fargo area for over 40 years. At the time of his death, DeWayne was working for Love-It Furniture, Fargo.

DeWayne loved his Lord with his whole heart and served his Lord as an usher at First Assembly of God in Fargo. DeWayne delighted in spending time with his wife and family and was known for his wonderful sense of humor. DeWayne had a servant’s heart and was always helping friends and family with whatever need arose.

DeWayne is survived by his wife, Lillian, Fargo; one son, Randy (Tammy) Dronen, Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Marsha Bartos and Vickie (Randy) Ward, both Fargo, and Tammie Berg, Hillsboro; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Jay (Betty) Dronen, Jamestown; and two sisters, Eunice Farthing, Jamestown, and Lillian Carroll, Minneapolis, MN.

Visitation for DeWayne will be Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, from 6 - 8 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The funeral will be Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at 2 PM, in First Assembly of God, Fargo. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

Edward Duden, 71, Jud, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Jamestown (N.D.) Hospital.

Mr. Duden was born May 13, 1930, in Fargo, the son of Ernest and Mamie Esther (Christ) Duden. He grew up in Jud, where he graduated from Jud High School in 1948. He helped on the family farm. He married Helen Fode Sept. 1, 1948, in Jud. They lived in Jud, and he farmed north of Jud. He was a member of the Lions and the board of directors for Great Plains Assistance, and lay speaker for the United Methodist Church, LaMoure Co. Commission/Dogs and the Jud United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Steve (Kaye), Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Sharman (Del Wayne) Zachrison, Jud; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a great-grandchild.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, Jud United Methodist Church, Jud, with the Rev. Rodney Ulmer officiating.
