Alvina Ebel, 108, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Alvina Deutscher was born Aug. 30, 1895, in Worms, South Russia, the daughter of Peter and Hanna (Weikum) Deutscher. The family came to the United States in 1903 and settled southwest of Streeter, N.D. She attended the local rural elementary school, grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. She married William Ebel on July 12, 1914, in Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown until 1929, when they moved to a farm three miles south of Medina, N.D. In 1959 they retired and moved back to Jamestown. In 1985 she moved to Streeter. She entered Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center on Oct. 23, 1995. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter.

She is survived by three sons, Arthur (Arlene), Medina, Harry (Phyllis), Mobridge, S.D., and Oscar (Helena), Bismarck, N.D.; three daughters, Martha (Gottfried) Dewald, Streeter, Arlene O’Brien, Lodi, Calif., and Violet (Allen) Joachim, Aberdeen, S.D.; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother; husband; three sons, Emil, Walter and Edward; two daughters, Mary and Edna; five brothers, five sisters, two stepbrothers, three stepsisters, five half sisters, a half brother and a great-grandson, Craig Ebel.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Stanton Bockwoldt officiating.
Visitation: 9 am to 5 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Mr. Ebel was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Jamestown, N.D. He grew up and attended school near Medina. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Arlene Moser in Medina. He worked as a meat cutter and store manager for several Red Owl stores in North Dakota before becoming co-owner of the store in Napoleon from 1959 to 1964. He also worked as a sales representative for Groves Kelco and was employed by the Medina Public School for several years, before working for Medina Farmers Union.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary (Kate), Grand Forks, N.D., Randy, Devils Lake, N.D.; a daughter, Lori Ebel, Medina; two brothers, Harry (Phyllis), Mobridge, S.D., Oscar (Helena), Bismarck; and three sisters, Martha (Gottfried) Dewald, Streeter, N.D., Arlene O'Brien, Lodi, Calif., Violet (Allen) Joachim, Aberdeen, S.D.

Visitation: Today from 1 to 5 and Thursday from 9 to 9, with a prayer service at 7, in Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Arthur Stanley "Art" Eberhardt, 84, West Fargo, N.D., died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Eberhardt was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Gustaf and Christina Eberhardt. He grew up in Jud, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a Bronze Star. He married Thelma Rinas on Aug. 31, 1951. They lived in West Fargo. He worked for the North Dakota Highway Department until he retired. He enjoyed collecting model tractors, walking, reading, watching TV and attending farm tractor shows.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Art (Vicki), and Danny (Carmen), both Fargo; two daughters, Debbie (Gary) Globstad, Lake Park, Minn., and Nancy (Kenny) Freiss, Fargo; a sister, Alice Houston, California; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters and a son-in-law.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, First Assembly of God Church, Fargo.

DeLoris Eberhardt, 68, Jamestown, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

DeLoris DeWald was born April 8, 1936, at the family farm home located 10 miles southeast of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Mary (Speidel) Dewald. In 1944, she moved with her parents to a farm southeast of Cleveland, N.D., where she received her elementary education in the local rural school. She moved to Jamestown where she worked at Majestic Cafe and later at Northwest Y Cafe. She married Raymond Eberhardt on June 4, 1956, at Jamestown. They lived on his parents’ farm until 1958, when they moved to Jamestown. She worked at the 20 Club. In 1960, she became employed by Red Owl and later at the Eagles Club where she worked for 20 years. She retired in 1987. They traveled to Midwest states while he worked for Northern Improvement. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, scrapbooking, family history, country music, German cooking, flower gardening and lunches with the ladies.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Bonnie (Paul) Berg, Carrington, N.D., Pennie (Tom) Murray, Aberdeen, S.D., and Jodie (Kyle) Schafer, Crookston, Minn.; a son, Scott, Jamestown; two brothers, Robert (Violet), Jamestown, and Norman (Shirley), Belfair, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Fred Gutschmidt; and a brother, Harry.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Doug Opp officiating.

Margaret Eberhardt, 78, Jamestown, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, N.D.

Margaret M. Gardner was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Logan County, North Dakota, the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Geisinger) Gardner. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Napoleon, N.D., and attended school in Napoleon Township, North Dakota. She married Herbert Siewert in 1949, in Fargo, N.D. They lived in Idaho and Washington. She married Rudolph Binder in 1966, in Steele, N.D. She worked as a janitor at Tappen Public School, Tappen, N.D. He died in October 1977. She worked as a housemother at the North Dakota State Hospital for 15 years. She married Albert Eberhardt in 1983. They traveled while he worked for Northern Improvement. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, NASCAR and the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Harr and Joanne (William L.) Seekins, both Jamestown; a son, Michael J. (Tammy) Binder, Fargo; a sister, Eva Moore, Fargo; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; seven sisters, Theresa, Katherine, Mary, Elizabeth "Lizzie," Magdalene, Christina and Judy; and a brother, Anton.

Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Eric Libby officiating.
Visitation: none planned.

Mobridge - Funeral service for Rachel Eberhart, 88, of Mobridge will be Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church at Mobridge. The Rev. Kyle Reinhiller will officiate. Burial will be in the Eureka City Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation is Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Eureka and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. She died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Rachel Miller, daughter of Henry H. and Elizabeth (Steiger) Miller, was born March 27, 1916, 14 miles northeast of Napoleon, N.D., on the family farm homestead. This is where she grew up and started country school. She boarded with her sister, Rebecca, in Bismarck so she could attend Bismarck High School, graduating with the Class of 1940. She taught school for a short time. She then worked at a Bismarck Hospital as a dietician. She was united in marriage to Albert Eberhart on Oct. 26, 1941, at Napoleon, N.D. They made their home in Campbell County and farmed in this area until 1978, when they moved to Mobridge. She worked for South Dakota Department of Social Services in Home Health Care and was a Stanley Home Products dealer for more than 42 years. Throughout her life, she shared her faith. On many occasions, she went on Lay Witness Missions and had been a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church for many years. Rachel enjoyed crocheting, sewing and putting jigsaw puzzles together. Gardening and canning always kept her busy. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always treasured memories as she was very proud of them. Rachel was a member of United Methodist Church at Mobridge, United Methodist Women and Gideons Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, Emil (Penny) Eberhart of Sioux Falls, Allen (Yvonne) Eberhart and Elgin Eberhart, both of Java, and Wesley (Jessye) Eberhart of Pollock; one daughter-in-law, Susan Schile of Bismarck; three sisters, Rebecca Schlickenmayer of Seattle, Wash., Elizabeth Geist of Bismarck and Hilda (Luther) Buchholz of Lehr; one brother, Simon Miller of Seattle, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, one daughter, NiEmi, one infant daughter, Shirley Ann, and nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Honorary casketbearers will be her great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses, Christy and Guy Hulscher, Valerie and Jason Huber, Daniel Eberhart, Sheila Eberhart, Vincent and Julia Eberhart, Nathan Eberhart, Eric Eberhart, Joel Eberhart, Brent and Dana Eberhart, Corey and Kristi Eberhart, Kimberly Eberhart, Catherine Eberhart and Guillermo Velasquez, Paul and Colleen Eberhart and Timothy and Rebecca Eberhart. The pianist will be Ruby Stotz and Gospel Messengers of Walworth County will perform special music.

Philip A. Eckroth, 78, Jamestown, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Eckroth was born July 17, 1929, in St. Anthony, N.D., the son of Andrew and Anna (Hoffman) Eckroth. He attended school at Morton County Public School. As a young man he worked on his father’s farm. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1951 and served in Korea and Japan until Jan. 11, 1953. He transferred into the Army inactive reserve on Jan. 23, 1953, and was discharged on Aug. 24, 1956. He married Irene Karn in 1953 in Kensal, N.D. They moved to Fargo where they lived for two years and he worked for the Veterans Administration. They moved to a farm in Pingree, N.D., in 1957. They farmed and he also worked for 24 years at a frozen foods manufacturing plant as a maintenance supervisor. They moved to Jamestown in 1982. He retired on March 31, 1992, from the H.J. Heinz Co. He was a member of St. James Basilica, Knights of Columbus Council 1883, American Legion, VFW and the Eagles. He enjoyed sports, small engine repair and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Sheila (Dallas) Neuberger, Beulah, N.D., Terri Eckroth, Fargo, and Tamara (Darcy) Dockter, Medina, N.D.; two sons, Steve (Kathy), Jamestown, and Todd (Laura), Steele, N.D.; four brothers, Joe (Bertha), Meridian, Idaho, Paul, Las Vegas, and Dan (Irene) and Jack (Louise), both Mandan, N.D.; five sisters, Katie Helfrick, Sun City, Calif., Frances Bender, Mandan, and Bertha Dieter, Clem (Mark) Stein and Lucille Bosch, all Bismarck, N.D.; and 16 grandchildren.

The Rev. Bernard Edinger, 80, Colfax, Wash., died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Tekoa Care Center, Colfax.

The Rev. Bernard Edinger was born June 10, 1920, at his parents' farm near Carrington, the son of John and Mary Adams Edinger. He attended elementary school and later graduating from Carrington High School. He attended Northwestern Bible College and Seminary, Minneapolis, Minn., and Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn. He married Violet Albus Aug. 22, 1940, at Big Lake, Minn. He served in seven towns or cities and nine different churches during his ministry. He served in the First Presbyterian Church, Hager City, Wis. for seven years; Community Baptist, New Prague, Minn., for four years; First Baptist Church, Selfridge, N.D., and Fort Yates Community Church for four years; Grace Baptist Churches, Gackle, N.D., and Alfred, N.D., for eight years; First Baptist Church, Colfax., from 1965-75; Washburn (N.D.) Baptist, for four years; and Portland Avenue Baptist, Tacoma, Wash., for six years. He retired in 1985. They returned to Colfax in 1999. He also did radio ministries in Red Wing, Minn., and Colfax. He served on the Baptist Retirement Home Board, Bismarck, N.D., for many years serving as president of the North Dakota Evangelic Sunday Association for five years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Colfax. He was past-member of the Colfax Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing and to tell stories and jokes.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Palmer B., Colfax; four daughters, Elizabeth Fay Suko, Apache Junction, Ariz., Miriam Babitzke, St. Cloud, Minn., Eunice Pearson, Kent, Wash., and Naomi Martin, Vancouver, Wash.; three brothers, Ben and Martin, both Texas, and Clayton, North Dakota. nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, First Baptist Church, Colfax, with the Rev. Richard May officiating. Arrangements by Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax.

Lela Edinger, 84, Pingree, N.D., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey, N.D.

Lela Pfaff was born Nov. 22, 1920, at Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Rott) Pfaff. She was raised and attended school in Fredonia. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for various families in the area. She married Reuben Edinger on Sept. 26, 1941, in Edmunds, N.D. They farmed in Glacier Township, south of Carrington, N.D. He died Jan. 27, 1991. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington and the Homemakers Group in Edmunds. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking and helping with farming and livestock.

She is survived by two sons, Wade (Pam), Fargo, N.D., and Gary, Pingree; two daughters, Sharleen Boomgaarden, Jamestown, and Sheila (Orville) Oster, Carrington; a brother, Ervin, LaMoure, N.D.; two sisters, Edna Richards, Aberdeen, S.D., and Esther Pfaff, LaMoure; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law, Lyle.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.

Bernice Ehman, 91, Jamestown, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City, N.D.

Bernice Frances Shull was born May 10, 1919, at Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Irving and Margaret Shull. She grew up in southern Minnesota and received her elementary and high school education at Ellendale, Minn., and Mankato, Minn. She worked for Armour Creamery, Mankato, and worked as a laboratory technician with a chemist. She was transferred to St. Paul, Minn. She married George Ehman on July 29, 1939, in Northwood, Iowa. They lived in St. Paul and then moved to Jud, N.D., where they farmed until they retired in 1982 and moved to Jamestown. He died Feb. 15, 1994. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dancing, reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning and baking.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Ingstad, Valley City, and Cheryl Forsythe, Plymouth, Minn.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Clarence Horsted, Valley City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and sons-in-law.

Irvin C. Ehman, 92, Bismarck, N.D., formerly Jamestown, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Mr. Ehman was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Jud, N.D., the son of John and Ida (Flaig) Ehman. He was a longtime employee of Northern Pacific Railroad. He married Madelyn Olson in 1940. He was an amateur boxer. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, his vegetable garden, woodworking, crafts and playing cards.

He is survived by a son, Donald (Rose), Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Jefferie Marie Ehman, Bismarck, and Nicki (Dale) Ehman, Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Harry Ehmann, 87, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Ave Maria Village (Central Dakota Village), Jamestown.

Mr. Ehmann was born Oct. 30, 1920, at the family farm home near Alfred, N.D., the son of Daniel and Christina (Bauman) Ehmann. He grew up in the area and attended Alfred Public School until 1934 when they moved to Jud, N.D., where he finished school. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1939. He returned to Jud. He married Emma Kalmbach on Nov. 3, 1941, in LaMoure, N.D. They lived in Raney Township, west of Jud, until 1995 when they moved to Gackle. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Gackle, Jud Farmers Union Elevator and Oil Company, Jud, and served on the Jud School Board and LaMoure County Weed Board. He played baseball with the Alfred, Jud and Swede ball clubs and also managed the Jud and Alfred teams. He enjoyed sports.

He was preceded in death by three infant sons, his parents, five brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter, Laura.

Martin Ehmann, 89, Jamestown, N.D., died Saturday, May 23, 1998, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Ehmann was born Jan. 4, 1909, in Russia. He moved with his family to Jud, N.D., in 1910, where he grew up and attended school. On Oct. 17, 1939, he married Hulda Mueller in Napoleon, N.D. They farmed near Gackle, N.D. In 1966 they moved to Jamestown where he worked as a custodian for the school district. She died in 1985.

He is survived by a son, Lester, Nortonville, N.D.; a brother, Harry (Emma), Jud; a sister, Ida Kalmbach, Jud; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. ...

Reinhold "Reinie" Eisenbeis, the son of Adolph and Mary (Schwartzwalter) Eisenbeis, was born November 16, 1919, on a farm near Streeter, ND, where he grew up and received his education. He also attended Bottineau (ND) College of Forestry. On November 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruth Seher in Jamestown, ND.

Following their marriage, Reinie and Ruth lived in Streeter for five years. In 1951, the family moved to the Lockhart, MN, area where they farmed for 30 years. He retired in 1989. In 1981, they purchased a home in Moorhead, MN, where they resided during the winter and they spent their summers in the Lockhart area. Reinie was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Lockhart, the board of Coachmen Condo in Moorhead, and various farm organizations. He was in partnership with Arvid Benson in several different ventures in a number of states.

Reinie died Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Martha Taylor; and two sisters-in-law, Annie and Janice Eisenbeis.

Reinie is survived by his wife, Ruth, Moorhead; a daughter, Roxie Benson of Fargo and Mike Benson; two grandsons, Brian (Jenni Stock) Benson and Jason (Nicole Lomsdal) Benson, both Moorhead; three brothers, Wesley Eisenbeis, Bismarck, ND, Harry (Arlene) Eisenbeis, Hillsboro, ND, and Bob Eisenbeis, Lincoln, CA; and four sisters, Ann (Tony) Schaffner, Sacramento, CA, Hulda (Art) Berg, Lodi, CA, Amy (Darrel) Moser, Fargo, and Onie (Jim) Nenow, Sacramento.

Reinhold "Reinie" Eisenbeis, son of Adolph and Mary (Schwartzwalter) Eisenbeis, was born Nov. 16, 1919 on a farm near Streeter, where he grew up and received his education. He also attended Bottineau College of Forestry. On November 21, 1946 he was united in marriage to Ruth Seher in Jamestown.

Ervin "Erv" Eissinger, 82, Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov, 8, 2006, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Eissinger was born July 5, 1924, in Wishek, N.D., the son of Carl and Lydia (Lang) Eissinger. He grew up and received his elementary education in the local school. He helped on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 14, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minn., and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan. He was discharged Nov. 29, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Wash. He married Colette Haut on April 18, 1949, in Gackle. They lived in Gackle, where he was associated with Haut’s Inc. Hardware Store. He served as president and manager until he retired. He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church, Windsor, N.D. He was a lifetime member of the Gackle Fire Department, where he served as chief, and of the Knights of Columbus, Jamestown. He served in organizations/agencies as follows: Gackle alderman for eight years and mayor for four years; Gackle Hospital board; two terms in the Silver-Haired Legislature; South Central Adult Services board; South Central Senior Golf tour; chairman, Gackle Community Development Corp.; coordinator of National Health Corp.; Logan County Aging board; and Bicentennial Committee. He had been a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Gackle, where he served as parish president; past president of Gackle Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Gackle Senior Citizens Club, Gackle Country Club, Gackle Lions, Amateur Baseball Club, Wildlife Club and American Legion Mayer-Morlock Post No. 250 in Gackle, serving as commander and adjutant.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jacquelyn Schaffer, Bemidji, Minn.; a brother, Arthur (Dorothy) Hazen, N.D.; four sisters, Edna Kosanke, Wishek, Leone Deutcher, Yankton, S.D., Ida (LaMont) Cass, Rapid City, S.D., and Laura Peterson, LaMarque, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Eissinger, Napoleon, N.D., and Catherine Eissinger, San Dimas, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Reinhold, Marvin and Benjamin.

Ervin (Erv) Eissinger, 82, Gackle, ND died early Wednesday morning November 8, 2006 at the Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Ervin was born July 5, 1924 in Wishek, ND, the son of Carl Eissinger and Lydia (Lang) Eissinger. He received his elementary education in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.

He entered the United State Army February 14, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan. He was discharged November 29, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA.

He and Colette Haut were married April 18, 1949 in Gackle, ND. They made their home in Gackle where Ervin was associated with Haut’s Inc. Hardware Store. He served as President and Manager until his retirement. Following their retirement they have continued to reside in Gackle.

He was presently a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church of Windsor, ND and a past member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Gackle, having served as parish president. He was President/Secretary/treasurer of the Gackle Chamber of Commerce, served as alderman for 8 years and Mayor for 4 years of Gackle, Gackle Hospital board, Gackle Senior Citizens Club, Lifetime member of the Gackle Fire Dept having served as Chief, Area Trade and was a chairman in the Community Development Corporation in Gackle, Co–ordinator for the National Health Corp, procuring the dentist position in Gackle, the Bicentennial Committee, served 2 terms in the Silver-haired legislature, representing Logan County, the Gackle Country Club, Gackle Lions, Amateur Baseball Club and Wildlife Club, Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Jamestown, ND. He also was a member of the American Legion Mayer-Morlock Post No. 250 in Gackle serving as Commander & Adjutant, board member of the Logan County Aging, board member of the South Central Adult Services, and the South Central Senior Golf tour.

Gus A. Eissinger, 98, Jamestown, formerly Medina, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Eissinger was born Feb. 20, 1903, on the family homestead near Medina, the son of Andreas and Sophia (Lutz) Eissinger. He lived on the homestead for 79 years. He received his education in rural schools near Medina. He married MaeBelle Johnson June 7, 1934, at Fredonia, N.D. He farmed until retiring in 1979. She died July 16, 1978. He married Frieda Bitterman on Nov. 20, 1982, at Medina. They lived in Medina. He was active in community affairs and was elected Flint Township clerk in 1924, serving for many years. He was one of the organizers of the Medina Farmers Union Grain Elevator in 1939 and served on its board of directors for more than 30 years. He was active in the farm program since its inception in 1933. He was elected to the ASCS county committee in 1948 and served as a member until 1972. He was on the Medina School Board for nine years, a life member of the Jamestown Elks, and a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Medina, where he served on the council for several years as deacon and treasurer.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Gloria (Chuck) Renschler, Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Stan (Susan), Phoenix, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Betty Bitterman, New York, N.Y., and Sheila Bitterman, Phoenix; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, seven brothers and seven sisters.

Orville G. Engel, 91, of McVille ND, formerly of Tolna, ND, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at the Nelson County Health System - Care Center of McVille.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church of Tolna. Interment will be in the spring of 2005 at the Tolna Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today from 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Orville Gilbert Engel was born July 1, 1913 at home, north of Tolna to George and Rena (Aasgaard) Engel. He was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church of Tolna and attended the Tolna school district and graduated salutatorian of his class.

In June of 1937, he married Aase Tollefsrud and continued to work for several farmers. In 1944, he started farming with his father and later purchased the family farm. Aase passed away in January of 1955.

Orville continued to farm and later moved to the Engel homestead in 1974. He retired at the age of 65. He lived out his dream of traveling that took him to Canada, Europe and various places in the U.S.

Over the years Orville was active in the Leval township board, among many other activities. He had a passion for reading and loved playing cards with friends and socializing with people. A car accident in September of 1995, took Orville to a new chapter in his life, where he spent his remaining years in the McVille Hospital/Care Center. It did not however, deter his love of life. If he didn't have his nose in a book, he had a pen in his hand, in which he wrote three books.

Orville will be remembered and deeply missed by his three children, Ordis (Lawrence) Haas of Carrington, ND, Glenn (Joann) Engel of Lincoln, NE and Renita (Knut) Kjenslie of Clermont, FL; eight grandchildren, Owen, Laurie, Vickie, Kathie, Michael, Jodi, Tara and Aaron; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Carol) Engel of Rapid City, SD, and Blair Engel of Billings, MT; special friend, Margaret Fossen and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters, Erma Bruzilus, Marlys Williams, and Peggy McDonald; brothers, Myron and Jack; and step-mother Beatrice Engel.

Allwin John Elhard, 88, Lodi, Calif., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in a local convalescent hospital.

Mr. Elhard was born Dec. 29, 1918, in Gackle, N.D. He was raised in Jamestown. He moved to the Woodbridge, Calif., area in 1961. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II in Okinawa and China.

Andrew Tice Elhard "Slayer," 26, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Elhard was born Feb. 17, 1982, in Jamestown, the son of Jevon "Chevy" and Lori (Koon) Elhard. He attended school in Jamestown and graduated in 2000. He worked various jobs. He married Jennifer Bjornson on March 17, 2002, at his parents’ home. He worked for the Buffalo Foundation as a blackjack dealer and at Super Pumper. He attained a second-degree purple belt in karate. He enjoyed playing the guitar.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Adia Lynn, Jamestown; a son, Bain, Jamestown; his parents; and a half-brother, Jeremiah Wehler, Richardson, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Ardena Elhard and Virgil "Bud" and Eva Koon.

Ardena Elhard, 90, Jamestown, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Ardena Ernestina Presler was born Nov. 12, 1916, on the family farm southwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John G. and Othilda (Domdie) Presler. She grew up in the area and worked on her parents’ and neighbors’ farms and attended the local rural school. She married Andrew Elhard on Nov. 11, 1937, at Gackle. They farmed 10 miles southwest of Gackle until 1945 when they moved to a farm northeast of Lehr, N.D. They moved to Jamestown in 1950. She worked for Peterson Biddick for two years dressing turkeys, chickens and poultry and cleaning and ironing for residents. She also worked at Trinity Hospital and student residence from 1961 until 1966 when the hospital closed. She then worked for Jamestown Hospital until 1984. He died Jan. 3, 1969. She moved to the Gardenette in 1983. She enjoyed playing cards, games and crocheting, and listening to polka and old-time music.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene (Marcella), Bismarck, N.D., and Jevon (Lori), Jamestown; two daughters, Janice Hanson, Jamestown and Eunice (Dean) Casci, Summerville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents, four sisters, two brothers, a grandson and a son-in-law, Earl.

Elvera Elhard. 75, Valley City, N.D., formerly of Jud, N.D., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Elvera B. Grose was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Douglas, N.D., the daughter of Herbert and Minnie (Stangeland) Grose. She grew up and attended school in Tolley, N.D., graduating in 1952. Following her graduation from Minot State College, Minot, N.D. she taught grades five and six for two years in Gackle Public School, Gackle, N.D. She married G. Rueben Elhard on June 23, 1957, at Tolley. They lived on the family farm southwest of Jud. He died May 12, 1975. She farmed until 1989 when she moved to Bismarck, N.D. She then worked at a grocery store. She moved to Valley City in 2004 and worked as a grocery store cashier. She was a member of Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm. She attended Elim Evangelical Free Church, Valley City. She enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, ceramics and watching news.

She is survived by two sons, Mark (Shar) and John, both Jud; four daughters, Marcene (Peter) Fendt, Fargo, N.D., and Margaret Elhard, Brenda (Kirk) Dockter and Elizabeth (Dan) Mehus, all Valley City; three sisters, Kathy (Ed) Carlson, Bismarck, and Carole (Bob) Mehl and Sue Jordan, both Minot, N.D.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Bruce; her parents; and two sisters, Joyce Dippen and Shirley Lee.

The funeral for Elvera B. Elhard, Valley City, N. D., formerly of Jud, N. D., will be held Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm, N. D.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Kulm. Burial will be in the Kulm Congregational Cemetery.

Elvera Grose, daughter of Herbert and Minnie (Stangeland) Grose was born September 29, 1934, in Douglas, N. D. She grew up and attended school in Tolley, N. D., graduating in 1952. She attended and graduated from Minot State College. Elvera taught fifth and sixth grades in Gackle Public School for two years. Elvera was united in marriage to G. Rueben Elhard on June 23, 1957, in Tolley. Elvera and Rueben made their home on the family farm, southwest of Jud, and farmed there together until the death of her husband on May 12, 1975. Elvera continued to farm until 1989, when she moved to Bismarck and worked as a cashier at a grocery store. In 2004, she moved to Valley City to be closer to her family, and she again worked in a grocery store as a cashier. Elvera was a member of the Kulm Congregational Church, and was presently attending Elim Evangelical Free Church in Valley City. She enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, doing ceramics, watching FOX News, and attending her grandchildren's sports and other events.

Elvera died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. in Mercy Hospital, Valley City. She was 75 years old.

Ephriam Elhard, 90, Bismarck, formerly Jamestown, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Elhard was born Dec. 5, 1910, at the family farm home southwest of Gackle, N.D., the son of Gottlieb and Caroline (Kalmbach) Elhard. In 1912 the family moved to Gackle, where he received his education. After finishing his education he was employed by Moline Construction until 1934, when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, Missoula, Mont. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, Stockton, Calif. In 1944 he was sent overseas to Naples, Italy. On Oct. 8, 1945, he was transferred by the U.S. Air Force from Naples, Italy to Erlangern, Germany. In June 1942 he became staff sergeant and worked in this capacity until he was discharged in March 1946, to accept a position with Civil Service until 1950. He married Erna Rausch May 6, 1950, in Erding, Germany. They returned to the United States and lived in Jamestown, where he was employed by Moline Construction until retiring in 1976.

NORTHOME, MINN. - George Elhard, 69, Publisher of the Northome Record and active in real estate, died at his home.

He had published the paper since 1932 after coming from Margie. Prior to that he lived in Gackle, Logan and Kulm, N.D. He was postmaster at Gackle from 1903 to 1907 and at one time was a member of the North Dakota legislature.

Surviving are his widow, three sons and three daughter, one of them Mrs. Laverne Allen of Bemidji. Funeral service will be Friday afternoon [Jan.25, 1946] with burial at Gackle, N.D.

Ida P. Elhard, 100, Kulm, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at the Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

Ida P. Heller was born Oct. 14, 1904, near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Samuel and Katherine (Gumke) Heller. She grew up there and attended school. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She married Albert Elhard on Jan. 19, 1928. They lived and farmed in the Jud, N.D., area. In 1964 they moved to Kulm. He died May 23, 1975. She moved to the Wishek Home for the Aged in Wishek in January 2002.

She is survived by three sisters, Bertha Elhard, Bismarck, N.D., and Martha Heller and Elsie Heller, both Gackle; and a sister-in-law, Edna Nitschke, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, John; and two sisters, Emma and Marie.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm.
Visitation: noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Irene Elhard, 72, Ashley, N.D., formerly Judd, N.D., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Irene L. Irvine was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Bismarck, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (McDonald) Irvine. She grew up and attended country school 15 miles southeast of Bismarck. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1949. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State College and received a teaching certificate. She taught for one year in Judd. She married Oral Elhard on April 7, 1950, at the United Methodist parsonage, Edgeley, N.D. They lived on his family’s farm. From 1960 to 1963, they lived in Alfred, N.D. They returned to Judd in 1963. They purchased the family farm and raised small grains and Polled Hereford cattle. They retired from farming in 1978. They moved into Jud in 1980. They moved to Ashley in July 2003. They spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., since 1977. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Ashley, a 53-year member of United Methodist Women, TOPS, and for 15 years achieved the status of KOPS. She was a past member of Jud United Methodist Church, Jud, and Desert Chapel United Methodist, Ariz., She was active in church choir and Sunday school. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and embroidery.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Terry (Ming), Ashley; a daughter, Gwen (Roger) Ford, Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Imogene (Wendell) Albert and Geraldine (Clifford) Enochson, both of Bismarck; two brothers, John and Darrell, both of Bismarck; and 3 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Caroline Hebert; a granddaughter, Carey Ford; a half brother, Harold Irvine; and a half sister, Margaret Irvine,

Kathryn Elhard, 81, Drayton, N.D., and formerly Kulm, N.D., died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at her home.

Kathryn Leno was born Nov. 10, 1919, on the family farm near Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Lutwig and Emilie (Schweitzer) Leno. She grew up in the Alfred area, and attended Glen Township School District. She married George Elhard April 4, 1944, at Kulm. They lived in Kulm, until moving to Clarksburg, Calif. in 1956. In 1965 they moved to Drayton. She was employed for a number of years at Developmental Center, Grafton, N.D., worked in local restaurants, and served as den mother for the cub scouts. She suffered a severe stroke Oct. 21, 1991. They entered Tisdale Manor July 1, 1999. She was a member of Drayton United Methodist Church and the UMW.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Gerald (Mary) Edinburg, Texas, and Milton, Kennedy, Minn.; two daughters, Agnes (James) Kilgore, Littleton, Colo., and Ruth (Darrell Skogen) Elhard, Maple Grove, Minn.; three sisters, Tena Leno, Ellendale, N.D., Rose Sparks, West Sacramento, Calif., and Leah Carlson, Superior, Mont.; two brothers, Ludwig, Sacramento, Calif., and Arthur (Laura), El Dorado Hills, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elaine; a sister, Emma Krieger; two brothers, John and Raymond; and an infant sister.

Maurice Elhard, 73, Gackle, ND died Tuesday July 1, 2008 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Maurice was born October 11, 1934 in Jud, ND, the son of George Elhard and Lydia (Geinert) Elhard. He received his elementary education in Raney Township School and the Gackle High School. He moved to Chicago, IL in 1950 with his mother after the death of his father. He moved back to North Dakota in 1952 and worked for his cousin Roy Geinert for 3 years. In 1956 he worked for Remboldt Clothing Co.

He and Marilyn Schlittenhard were married July 7, 1957. They made their home on a farm SW of Jud, ND from 1957 to 1961. They moved into Gackle and raised laying hens and sold eggs from 1961 to 1963. Maurice worked for the Gackle Creamery from 1963-1969. In 1969 they owned and operated the Gackle Tastee Freeze until 1978 when they sold the business. Maurice then worked for the City of Gackle and later the Gackle Country Club. He also helped his son George at George’s WoodShop. Following his retirement he enjoyed doing yard work and helping at the Greenhouse in the spring.

He is a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, where he taught Sunday school and is a Deacon; he also is a member of the Gackle Cemetery Board, Gackle Ambulance, Fire Dept, Lions Club being a Charter member, and the Gackle Development.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, one son and daughter, George Elhard and Patty Elhard, all of Gackle, ND, 1 brother and 3 sisters, Raymond (Marjorie) Elhard, Bloomington, MN, Violet Mares, Berwyn, IL, Myrtle (Jerry) Yesia, Lagrane, IL and Alma Opp, Gackle, ND.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday July 5, 2008 in the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Timothy Blackman, pastor officiating. Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND. Visitation- Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-11 at the Funeral home and 1 hour before services at the Church on Saturday.

Nettie Elhard, 95, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Nettie Rovenko was born Sept. 10, 1907, in Max, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Jan. 3, 1931, she married Nick Kedalo in Minot, N.D. They lived in Gackle, N.D., from 1931-36. They moved to Adrian, N.D., in 1936. They moved to a farm near Jamestown in 1944. She worked as a nurse’s aide for Trinity Hospital and later as a custodian for S&L Department Store, Jamestown. He died in 1974. On Oct. 1, 1975, she married Albert Elhard in Jamestown. They continued to live near Jamestown. He died in 1986. She moved into Jamestown in 1993. She entered Rock of Ages in 2001 and Hi-Acres Manor in 2002.

She is survived by a son, Frances Pendray, Jamestown; four daughters, Lillian Hall, Zena (Winfred) Bierley, both Jamestown, Lucille Doone, Thousand Lakes, Calif., Eleanor (Lawrence) O’Hern, Pewaukee, Wis.; a stepson, Dennis Elhard, Grinnell, Iowa, two stepdaughters, Doris Talbott, Janet Griggs, both Grinnell; a sister, Vera Trihube, Minot, N.D.; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Thomas Merril Elhard of Galt, CA passed away on June 4, 2009, at the age of 72. He was born on February 17, 1936 in Jamestown, ND, the 11th child of John and Emelia Elhard. He graduated from James-town High School in 1954. He then joined the United States Marine Corp and then attended Jamestown College. On August 9, 1958 he married the love of his life, Sharon Claire Remboldt. They moved to Sacramento, CA where Tom joined the Sacramento Police Department. He served in several departments until retiring as a Sergeant Detective in 1992.

He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Inez Auch, Norma Dengate, Oneida Auch and 2 brothers, James Elhard and Allwin Elhard.

Tom liked to garden and always had a beautiful yard. He was happy when surrounded by his family.

William David Elhard, 89, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Oct. 3, 2008. He was born April 17, 1919, in Gackle, ND. William married Esther Fiegert in 1942. They had four children and farmed in ND until moving to the Yakima Valley in 1951.

William worked for Anderson Motors in Grandview and moved to Vancouver in 1963. He retired from Pederson Motors in 1981. William was president of the Vancouver Chapter of the Dakota Club and among the founding fathers of St. Joseph's Sausage Fest. He enjoyed working with cars, polka dancing, and playing the accordion. He was known for his great sense of humor and affectionately called "Wild Bill".

Survivors include widow, Wilma Elhard; sons, Jerry and Ken Elhard; daughter, Delphine Ward; 17 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thurs., Oct. 9, 2008, 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Annie Engebretson, 94, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in the nursing home.

Annie Caroline Olson was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Ivanhoe, Minn. She grew up and attended school near Streeter, N.D. On June 3, 1925, she married Christian Engebretson. They lived in Napoleon, N.D., and Gackle, N.D., before moving to Litchville, N.D., in 1933. They owned and operated Litchville Motor Co. for several years. He died in 1944. She entered the nursing home in 1996.

She is survived by two sons, Roger (Phyllis), Atlanta, Charles (Katherine), Fairmont, W.Va.; a daughter, Frances Olafson, Fargo; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. ...

Augusta "Gussie" Engebretson, 92, Valley City, N.D., formerly of Litchville, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Augusta Vilborg Johnson was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Pembina, N.D., the daughter of Goodman and Rannveig (Bogidottir) Johnson. She grew up and attended schools in Pembina and Streeter, N.D., graduating from Streeter High School in 1929. She then attended Valley City State University, where she earned her teaching certificate and taught in one-room country schools. She married Selmer Oliver Engebretson on March 31, 1934, in Napoleon, N.D. They lived near Litchville where they farmed for many years. He died May 17, 1982. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Litchville, but attended services at Faith Lutheran in Valley City for the past few years. She was a member of First Lutheran Ladies Aid and Litchville Homemakers. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fans.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Brian) Beechie, Walla Walla, Wash.; three sons, Dennis (Jeanie), Detroit Lakes, Minn., Duane (Gloria), Lake Park, Minn., and Stanley, Washington, D.C.; a sister, Clara "Soffia" Zeller, Grafton, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Entzi was born Aug. 20, 1928, east of Lehr, N.D., in McIntosh County, the son of John and Magdalena (Pressler) Entzi. He grew up and received his elementary education there. He married Phyllis Moldenhauer on Nov. 25, 1953, at Ashley, N.D. They lived and farmed on a farm five miles east of Fredonia. He retired in 2000 and continued to help and reside on the farm. He was a member of the Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia. He enjoyed tractors, ice and shore fishing, inventing various unique items for fishing, and he also built fish houses and tinkered with fishing equipment.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Boyd (Kristi), Fredonia; a daughter, Lynette (Michael) Odden, Bismarck, N.D.; six brothers, Gedion, John and Alvin, all Lehr, Leo, Loveland, Colo., Eugene, Naples, Fla., and Arnold, Waverly, Iowa; three sisters, Viola (Albert) Lux, Long Lake, S.D., and Lulubelle Seefried and Rose Wolff, both Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Entzi was born April 6, 1943, in McIntosh County, North Dakota, the son of Reinhold and Rose (Ketterling) Entzi. He attended school in Lautt School District in Logan County, North Dakota, through the sixth grade and continued his education at Lehr (N.D.) High School. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Following his education he worked at the sugar beet plant in Harden, Mont. He married Evelyn Sukut Nov. 29, 1963, at Fredonia, N.D. They lived in Jamestown, where he worked at Southwood Mobile Station. He later worked for Tempo Station, then managed Northside Phillips 66 station in Jamestown. He began his trucking career and worked for E & E Trucking, Fargo, N.D.; Wahl Trucking, Medina, N.D.; and Dakota Bake & Serve, Jamestown. He later worked for Downtown Phillips 66, Jamestown, with Duane Rosemore who he formed a partnership with on a truck. He drove for LeFevre Sales until 1978. He worked for Western Gear until 1980. He later drove truck for Dockter Trucking, Jamestown, until 1982 when he purchased his own truck. He retired in 1996 due to illness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Perry (Theresa), San Antonio, Texas, and Craig (June), Midwest City, Okla.; a daughter, Christine (Michael) Koenig, Riverside, Calif.; three sisters, Arlene (Ralph) Buchholz, Lehr, Shirley (Lawrence) Buchholz, Bismarck, N.D., and JoeAnne (Bert) Oberlander, West Richland, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Esther Entzi, 91, Wishek, N.D., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in the Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Esther Munsch was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Logan County, North Dakota, the daughter of Karl Sr. and Ottila (Widmer) Munsch. She attended the local rural school and grew up in the area where she helped on the family farm. She married Andrew Entzi on Oct. 3, 1932, at Ashley, N.D. They lived on a farm southwest of Fredonia, N.D., where they farmed from 1932 to 1973. They then retired and moved into Lehr. He died March 6, 1988. She moved to Wishek in February 2001. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lehr, N.D.

She is survived by two sons, Fred, Strausburg, N.D., and Leo (Patricia), Fredonia; two daughters, Lucille (Ervin) Glaesman, Lehr, and Arlys (Marvin) Kuhn, Gackle, N.D.; a sister, Hulda Nelson, Barrett, Minn.; a brother, Herman (Lucille), Kulm, N.D.; two sisters-in-law, Rose Veil, Eugene, Ore., and Selma Entzi, Lodi, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents, four brothers and six sisters.

Harold Entzi, 79, Fredonia, N.D., died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, N.D.

Mr. Entzi was born March 13, 1925, in Guyson, N.D., the son of Edward and Emma (Ketterling) Entzi. He attended rural school in McIntosh County, North Dakota. He farmed for 61 years south of Fredonia. He married Violet Huse on June 20, 1948. He served on the Fredonia Co-op Elevator Board from 1959 to 1989. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, for 55 years. He enjoyed reading.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Paulette (Richard) Clifton, Johnson Creek, Wis.; three sons, Gregory (Tresia), Fredonia, Bruce, Lehr, N.D., and Donald (Kristin), Rolette, N.D.; a brother, Alvin (Irene), Fredonia; four sisters, Esther Fuchs, Jamestown, Adeline Fuchs and Edna Weispfenning, both Fredonia, and Etala Mae (Darrel) Ruff, Willmar, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

LoRee Ann Entzi, 34, Fredonia, N.D., died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, N.D.

LoRee Ann Entzi was born Oct. 13, 1969, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Greg and Tresia (Davis) Entzi. She was baptized and confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia. She attended school at Lehr, N.D., and graduated from Lehr High School in 1988. She attended the University of Mary, Bismarck, N.D. She returned to Fredonia and worked as a CNA at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, and was an EMT for the Ashley and Kulm, N.D., Ambulance services.

She is survived by a son, Colton, and a daughter, Chelsee, both at home; her parents, Fredonia; two brothers, James (Susan) and Paul, both Mesa, Ariz.; her grandparents, Jim and Doloris Holman, Jamestown, and Harold and Violet Entzi, Fredonia; and her companion, Rob Larson, Rochester, Minn.

He owned Twin Ford with his brother Dean from 1976 to 1991. On July 21, 1979, he married Marilyn Fairfield. He worked for the Jamestown (N.D.) postal service from 1985 to 1994. Lydia Enzminger, 90, Jamestown, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Lydia Ruff was born July 8, 1915, at the family farm home southwest of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Margaretha (Enzminger) Ruff. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew up in the area. She married Edwin Enzminger on Sept. 9, 1934, at the Freidens E.U.B. Church west of Streeter. They lived on a farm five miles southwest of Streeter until 1942, when they moved to a farm 10 miles southeast of Medina. In 1952 they moved into Tappen, where he operated a trucking business. Following his death on Nov. 23, 1981, she worked at Tappen Public School in the Green Thumb Program until she retired in 1992. She move to Jamestown in 1993 and entered Rock of Ages in 1999. In 2001 she entered Central Dakota Village. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, and was active in the church and missions. She enjoyed doing yardwork, gardening and her flowers.

She is survived by five daughters, Ramon (Gene) Mayer, Streeter, Verna (Ervin) Pfaff, Tappen, Evangeline (Clarence) Mittleider, Mesa, Ariz., Marlys (Billie) Schmidt, Boise, Idaho, and Donna (Terry) Hilmoe, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; two sons, Lawrence (Marlys), Tappen, and Donald, Paradise Valley, Ariz.; three brothers, Vernon (Faye), Park Rapids, Minn., Walter (Lorraine), Colorado Springs, Colo., and Harry (Inez), Streeter; four sisters, Marie Reich, Ida Enzminger and Esther Simonson, all Jamestown, and Leah (Harry) Wolff, Streeter; 30 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three grandchildren, her parents, two brothers, a sister, two stepbrothers, and four stepsisters.

Nettie Entzminger, 90, Oakes, N.D., formerly of Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes.

Nettie K. Forsman was born June 1, 1920, in LaMoure County near Jud, N.D., the daughter of Nels and Christine (Hanson) Forsman. She grew up near Judd and attended the local rural school. She assisted on the family farm. She married Bernhardt "Bernie" Entzminger on Oct. 12, 1940, in LaMoure, N.D. They lived in the Valley City, N.D., area until they began farming north of Kulm, N.D. In 1946, they began farming 10 miles east of Gackle. In March 1957, they moved into Gackle where they owned and operated Bernie’s Café. In 1959 they co-owned the B&M Grocery until the fall of 1960. They then owned Gackle Cleaners until they retired in 1980. He died in 1991. She moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Oakes, in 2003. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, the Baptist Gleaners and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was past president of the Gackle senior citizens and a board member of Community Action and the County Council for the aging.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann (Art) Remmich, Bismarck, N.D., Betty (Larry) Graf, Mapleton, N.D., JoAnn (Wilbert) Janke, Gackle, and Kay (Garry) Opp, Oakes; two sons, Dean (Carol), Gackle, and Randy (Julie), Oakes; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Entzminger, Gackle; a sister-in-law, Alma Forsman, Ellendale, N.D.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dennis; her parents; four brothers; and two grandchildren.

Reinhold Enzminger, 75, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Enzminger, known as Reiny, was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended rural school. He helped on his family's farm near Streeter. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years in Mount Pleasant, Utah, and Lake Itasca, Minn. He later worked at the sugar factory in Hardin, Mont., for a few years. On Sept. 7, 1945, he married Inez Oster in Jamestown. They farmed near Gackle, N.D. In 1949 they moved to Jamestown, where he worked for Jamestown Hide and Fur Co. In 1950 he became part-owner of West End Hide and Fur, which he sold before his retiring in 1979. ...

A memorial service for Arthur 'Art' Erbele, 90, Wishek, was held Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, with Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. He died Nov. 6 in Wishek.

Art was born on a farm in rural Lehr on July 6, 1914, the son of Andrew Erbele Jr. and Martha (Reich) Erbele. During the Depression years, he worked in the CCC in Washington and California.

Art married Viola Mueller on Oct. 19, 1941 in Lehr. He entered the Army in 1942. They made their homes in Fort Sill, Okla., Brownwood, Texas, and Dothan, Ala. Art landed on Omaha Beach with the invasion troops. He fought across France and Germany and was in Austria at the end of WWII. He also served in Korea during the Korean War Conflict. Art made his career in service with both the North Dakota Army National Guard and the N.D. Army Reserve Unit.

Art and Viola made their home in Grand Forks and raised three children, Tim (Shari) Erbele, of Indianapolis, Ind., Julia (John) Betcher of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lois (Jeff) Manske of Grand Forks. They moved to Wishek in 2000. Following the death of his wife on April 18, 2002, Art has continued to reside in Wishek.

Art was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman and UND sports enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Art was a warm and outgoing person, with a great sense of humor and a zest for life. He made friends wherever he traveled.

Art is survived by his children, grandchildren, (Kristen Grider, Denise Erbele-Loubieres, Sara Doshi, Mark Erbele, Hannah Manske and Andy Manske), great-grandchildren, (Leo Loubieres, Adele Loubieres, Gus Grider); two sisters, Mildred Kautz of Wishek and Delores (Russell) Fiechtner, of Lehr; and two brothers, Elmer (Emilie) Erbele and Harvey (Darlene) Erbele, both of Lehr.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola, in 2002; and two brothers, Leo and Calvin.

Cassidy Ray Erbele, 9, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D., as the result of an accident.

Cassidy was born April 13, 1994, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D., the son of Tim and Ronda (Dockter) Erbele. He grew up on the family farm and was a fourth-grader at Gackle-Streeter Public School. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and active in the "AWANA" Bible Club, Gackle. He enjoyed riding four wheeler, mowing and raking hay and gathering bales, running the grain cart, driving tractor, helping clean the feed lot, working on the farm, playing play station, camping and playing with his dogs, Shadow and Tiger. The only thing he didn’t like was having to go to bed.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Miranda Erbele, Streeter; grandparents, Ray and Carol Erbele, Streeter, and Lawrence and Erma Dockter, Fargo, N.D.; and a great-grandfather, Harry Miedema, Jamestown.

Duane Erbele, 66, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at a friend's family farm of natural causes.

Mr. Erbele was born Nov. 8, 1934, on the family farm near Lehr, N.D., the son of Martin H. and Ida (Kaldun) Erbele. He grew up on the family farm and attended Ketterling Country School and Streeter High School. He enlisted in the National Guard in June 1952, and was called to active duty with the U.S. Army March 24, 1955. He served during the Korean War in Korea for 16 months as a sergeant. He was discharged Jan. 11, 1957. From January 1957 to January 1959, he was active with the National Guard. Following the service, he worked in the oil fields, for construction companies, and for the Stutsman County road department. He also had his own welding business. He married Valentena Iszler June 10, 1966, in Streeter. They lived in Streeter, until they moved to New Mexico and Arizona, where they worked as missionaries with the Native Americans. Thirteen years later, they returned to Streeter, where he continued construction. Upon his retirement he worked for Wayne Mittleider near Tappen, N.D. He enjoyed hunting, restoring antique tractors and cars, reading his Bible and giving tractor rides.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Bobbi Jo (Patrick) Dziuk, Shakopee, Minn., and Beth Ann (Troy Kramlich) Erbele, Jamestown; a son, Phillip (Krista), Mt. Joy, Pa.; two brothers, Alvin (Eva), Gackle, N.D. and Harold (Esther), Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Mariam (Melvin) Fetzer, Wishek, N.D.; and a granddaughter.

Harvey N. Erbele, 83, Lehr, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Erbele was born Aug. 15, 1925, at the family farm home 14 miles north of Lehr, the son of Andrew and Martha (Reich) Erbele. He grew up in the Lehr area and attended rural school where he received his elementary education. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp on Sept. 26, 1946. He served at Guam in the South Pacific. He was discharged Sept. 2, 1948, with the rank of corporal. He returned home to farm with his brother Elmer. He married Darlene Mayer on June 20, 1952, in Lehr. They purchased their own farm 11 miles north of Lehr where they farmed until 1978. They moved into Lehr. He continued to farm until he retired in 1993. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He served on the church finance board, the school board, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Lehr Economic Development and North Dakota State University Carrington Research Board. He also served as alderman for the Lehr City Council and the Lehr Wildlife Club.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Brian, Joliette, Ill.; a daughter, Vicky (Kevin) Grothmann, Hillsboro, N.D.; two sisters, Mildred Kautz, Wishek, N.D., and Delores (Russell) Fiechtner, Lehr; a brother, Elmer (Emilie), Lehr; and two grandchildren.

John Erbele, 95, Lehr, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, N.D.

Mr. Erbele was born July 28, 1908, on the family farm, the son of pioneer homesteaders Heinrich and Elizabeth (Yanke) Erbele. He was baptized at Emmanuel Evangelical church, north of Lehr, and attended services there until the church closed. He then attended United Methodist Church, Streeter, N.D. He received his education in a rural school in Ketterling Township, and began farming full time at an early age. In 1928, he began a custom threshing business with his brother Martin. He purchased the farm from his father in 1933. Shortly thereafter he obtained a contract to raise horses for the U.S. Cavalry, which he continued until the Cavalry was discontinued in 1945. He enjoyed farming and working. He married Florence Diede on Dec. 3, 1939. She died Nov. 16, 1994. He lived on the family farm until age 91, when he entered Napoleon Care Center.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Iszler, Bismarck, N.D.; three sons, the Rev. J. Dale (Vonda), Billings, Mont., Raymond (Carol), Streeter, and Robert (Susan), Lehr; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, United Methodist Church, Streeter, with the Revs. J. Dale Erbele and Stan Bockwoldt officiating.

Funeral services for Viola Erbele, 80, Wishek, were held Monday, April 22, 2002, at Zion United Methodist Church, Wishek, with Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. She died April 18 at the Wishek Home for the Aged.

Viola Mueller was born Nov. 22, 1921 on a farmstead, north of Wishek, in Logan County, the daughter of John F. and Theresa (Baltzer) Mueller. One of 14 children, she attended the local rural elementary school and grew up on the family farm.

Vi married Arthur W. "Art" Erbele on Oct. 19, 1941 in Lehr. Art entered the military in 1942 and Vi moved with him throughout his service. They made their home in Fort Sill, Okla., Brownwood, Texas, and Dothan, Ala. After World War II and the Korean War, Vi and Art moved back to Wishek, where they had three children. In 1962, they moved to Grand Forks and lived a productive and enjoyable life. Vi worked for Weight Watchers and took care of her children and grandchildren. In 2000, they moved back to Wishek, where they had lived since.

Vi was a most loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was unselfishly devoted to her family and loved ones. Her zest for life, great sense of humor and excellent cooking skills made a visit to her home a memorable experience for family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Art Erbele of Wishek; a son, Timothy (Shari) Erbele of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Julia (John) Betcher of Minneapolis and Lois (Jeff) Manske of Grand Forks; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Mueller of Gackle and Walter Mueller of Wishek; and four sisters, Bertha Solar of Stockton, Calif., Marie Merkel of Lodi, Calif., Edna Pedrucci of Stockton and LoRayne Gill of Columbus, Ohio.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Interment was in the Wishek City Cemetery. Haut Funeral Homes of Wishek was in charge of arrangements.

Vonda Lee Erbele, age 65, departed this earthly life to meet her Lord on March 24, 2008 in Billings, Montana. She fought a year-long, courageous battle with brain cancer. Vonda was born on February 7, 1943, in Harvey, ND, to Raymond and Alice (Kraft) Lautt. She spent her early days on a farm near Harvey growing up with an older brother JuDean and a younger brother, Darnell. As a child, Vonda contracted Rheumatic Fever and was bedridden for over a year.

Throughout her teen years, Vonda was active in the Harvey Mennonite Brethren Church, and enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion. She graduated Valedictorian from Martin High School in 1961. She received her BS/RN degree from Jamestown College, ND, and was voted "Most Outstanding Senior Nurse of Class of ‘66." She later earned a Masters in Education Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

On June 27, 1965, she married J. Dale Erbele from Streeter/Lehr, ND. Together they had four children. After putting her husband through seminary as a pediatric nursing instructor, she laid aside her beloved career in order to dedicate her life to her family and ministry. Dale and Vonda spent 26 years in Missoula, MT serving at the South Hills Evangelical Church. As an accomplished pianist and organist, she played for church services, served as worship director, and was a piano teacher to scores of students throughout the years. She passed along her love of music to her children. The Erbele Family often traveled and sang together as a ministry team.

Many people were blessed by Vonda’s amazing gift of hospitality. A yearly highlight for her was Christmas Open House where she would host over 100 people. She became legendary for her rice krispy cross-shaped treats of which she made dozens during the Easter season. Her heart and home were always open to people and she enjoyed decorating her home in a beautiful Victorian style.

Vonda was a dedicated mother and a mentor to many. Her school lunches often contained homemade bread and a handwritten note. Her children were never sent off to school without a prayer and an encouraging word of Scripture. Vonda liked to use her creativity and sewing skills to make matching holiday outfits for her family, decorations for her home, and wonderful care packages for her grandchildren. Her last ten years were occupied with visiting and loving her 12 grandchildren spread out across the country. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband who serves as the Western Conference Superintendent of Evangelical Churches.

She was a beautiful inspiration to many who watched her battle cancer with great faith and bravery. Vonda’s family continues to live out her life’s verse, Romans 8:28; "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

Vonda Lee is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, J. Dale; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Kendra and Kent Husband (Charlotte, NC); Korissa and Darren Olson (Minneapolis, MN); Korinda and John Luhmann (Missoula, MT); one son and daughter-in-law, John and Heather Erbele (Savage, MN). She is also survived by 5 granddaughters and 8 grandsons, one special daughter in Christ, Margaret Neff, and two brothers and sisters-in-law; JuDean and Carol Lautt (Wichita, KS), Darnell and Christine Lautt (Columbus, OH).

The "Celebration of the Life of Vonda Lee Erbele" will take place on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 7:00 PM. Fellowship and refreshments will follow. The Service will be held at: Faith Evangelical Church, Billings, Montana 59102

Public viewing and visitation will be held from 2:00 6:00 PM in the Fireside Room at Faith Evangelical Church on Thursday, March 27th preceding the Service. Any flowers for the memorial service may be sent directly to Faith Evangelical Church.

A graveside committal service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 29th at 10:00 AM at the Emmanuel Country Cemetery (12 miles north of Lehr, ND. Look for a sign for "Vonda Erbele Memorial.") Following the committal, an informal service of remembrance and sharing will be held at 11:00 AM at the Streeter United Methodist Church (Streeter, ND) A Luncheon will follow. Funeral and memorial services are being arranged by Remington Letcher Memorial Funeral Services, Laurel, MT.

Emanuel Eslinger, 66, of Fredonia died Oct. 5 in a Sioux Falls hospital from injuries suffered in a car accident. He was in the hospital 12 days after being injured in an auto accident near Sioux Falls. He was alone in the car, returning from Iowa where he took two grandchildren.

He was born Nov. 22, 1896 near Fredonia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Eslinger. He was married March 12, 1919, to Hannah Wolf at Fredonia and they had since lived in that vicinity. The Eslinger farm is northwest of Fredonia in Logan County.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two children, Mrs. Ray (Esther) Kapp and Paul. There are eight grandchildren, six sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were scheduled for today, Oct. 9, at the Congregational Church in Fredonia. Rev Fred Heydel officiating.

Hanna Everding, 97, Jamestown, died Monday, Sept. 23, 1996, in Hi Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Hanna Deutscher was born Aug. 28, 1899, in Russia. She came to the United States in 1903 with her family. She grew up near Streeter, N.D. She worked as a maid in Streeter before her marriage to John F. Everding Jan. 27, 1924, near Streeter. They farmed near Streeter for three years. In 1929 they moved to Isabel, S.D., where they farmed for 12 years. In 1941 they returned to Streeter and farmed for four years. They then purchased a farm near Montpelier, N.D. After her husband's retirement in 1955 they moved to Jamestown. He died in 1956. She worked in the kitchen at Jamestown Hospital. In 1972 she moved to Sweet Home, Ore., to be near her daughter. Harry Frederich Everding, 80, Jamestown, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Everding was born Dec. 4, 1928, at Streeter, N.D., the son of John and Hanna (Deutscher) Everding. In 1929, the family moved to a farm near Isabel, S.D. He grew up and attended grades 1-5 at Isabel School. In 1941, the family moved back to Streeter where he completed his schooling. In 1945, the family bought a farm five miles southwest of Montpelier, N.D., where he helped his father farm until March 1951. In March 1951, he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., Fort Bliss, Texas, and Karlsruhe, Germany. He was discharged in March 1953. He then worked at the Jamestown Dam for a short time. He worked for Bridgeman Russell Creamery as a route salesman from 1953 to 1965. He married Rosella Hack on Sept. 4, 1955, at First Baptist Church, Jamestown. He worked for Wes Almquist Refrigeration and Dakota Bake-n-Serve and in 1971 became self-employed as a truck driver. He retired in March 1985. He enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Denise (Justin Parsons) Koble, Jamestown; a sister, Ellentina (Tom) Townsend, Sweethome, Ore.; two brothers, Gilbert (Pat), Medina, N.D., and Clifford (Rose), Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother-in-law, Melvin (Barbara) Hoff, Libby, Mont.; a sister-in-law, Teresa Everding, Fargo, N.D.; a son-in-law, Roger Koble, Jamestown; three stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Reinhold; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Brown.

Mary was born August 19, 1917, in Plankinton, SD, eldest child of James and Marie (Dunn) Donegan. The family lived in Plankinton and Edgeley, ND. Mary’s marriage to James J. Exner took place on November 18, 1937, in Edgeley, moved to Bismarck in 1938, and in 1943 to Jamestown.

Mary is survived by: Sharon M. Gerhart, James P. (Carolyn) Exner, Marlene A. Rose, Robert J. (Bonnie) Exner; Mary Jean (Michael) McCartney; Joseph R. (Claire) Exner, Joan E. Exner, Margaret R. (Dennis) Exner-Wieszcholek.

Grandma Mary had 21 grandchildren: Michael (Valencia), Laura, and Steven Gerhart; David (Jana) and James M. Exner; Mary Jo Gerber; Beth (Trent) Woolford; Susan (Michael) Lucy; Jonathan Rose; Shawn Exner; Molly (David) McCartney-Jeffries; Thomas McCartney; Maureen (Jesse) Tischer; Janson (Cory) Exner-Borgen; Johnny and Abby Exner; Caitlin, Phillip, and Patrick Coghlan; Renee and Tessa Wieszcholek. She had 15 great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters also survive Mary: Francis J. (Rita) Donegan, Robert A. Rose Exner, 91, of Edgeley, ND, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Hi-Acre Manor, Jamestown, ND.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, with interment in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Barbara Kay Godfrey was born May 25, 1938, at Butler, Mo., the daughter of Warren H. and Ruby B. (O’Rear) Godfrey. She married Lloyd B. Falk on Aug. 27, 1983, in Jamestown. She was a registered nurse for more than 40 years.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Deborah (Tony Jr.) Carlascio, Jamestown; two brothers, Don (Charlotte), Richmond, Kan., and Art (Connie), Paola, Kan.; four stepdaughters, Carol (Gene) Maessner, Gackle, N.D., Paula Scott, Evergreen, Co., Teresa Clark, San Francisco, Calif., and Mary Ann (Tony) Williams, Little Rock, Ark.; a special friend, Matt Nitschke, Jamestown; and 11 grandchildren.

Albert Fandrich, 77, Hillsboro, N.D., died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Union Hospital, Mayville, N.D.

Mr. Fandrich was born Oct. 28, 1931, near Burnstad, N.D., the son of Gust and Violet (Schauer) Fandrich. They moved to a farm near Blanchard, N.D., in 1938. He attended grade school at Bloomfield No. 3 and graduated from Bohnsack High School. He moved to Fargo, N.D., in 1954 where he worked at a lumberyard. He married May Harris in 1955 in Sisseton, S.D. In 1962 he started doing carpentry work and in 1967 he started farming with his brother. He married Rita Van Dyun on Sept. 2, 1967, at Arthur, N.D.

He is survived by four sons, John, Clovis, N.M., Larry, Colorado, Brian (Amy), Alexandria, Minn., and Mark (Tara), Hillsboro; a daughter, Debra, Pierre, S.D.; a brother, Allen, West Fargo, N.D.; two sisters, Edna, Gary, Minn., and Alice, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur; and two sisters, Violet and Shirley.

Bernard Fandrich, 87, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Mr. Fandrich was born Sept. 25, 1922, near Burnstad, N.D., the son of John and Lydia (Pritzkau) Fandrich. He grew up and attended school in Burnstad, northwest of Wishek, N.D. He worked as a farmer. He married Esther Diegel on June 22, 1947, in Wishek. He moved to Kulm, N.D., where he worked for Farmers Union for 25 years. They moved to Jamestown in 1992. He was a member of the Kulm Fire Department, Germans from Russia and Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, where he served on the church council. He was currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Jamestown; four sons, James (Mary Louise), Roseville, Minn., Jeff (Heidi), Marion, N.D., Mark (Kara), Plymouth, Minn., and Perry, Fairview, Ore.; one brother, John (Vangie), Fargo, N.D.; three sisters, Agnes Wheatley, Opelika, Ala., Marcella Rudolph, Oakdale, Calif., and Judy (Jerry) Skoglund, Sonora, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stanley; a half-brother, Ronald Pritzkau; and a step-mother, Rose (Fiest) Fandrich.

Eunice Farthing, 89, Jamestown, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital.

Eunice Sophie Dronen was born March 10, 1920, in Cleveland, N.D., the daughter of Malius and Olga (Haugen) Dronen. She married Donald Farthing Sr. on Sept. 2, 1939, in Big Timber, Mont. They moved to Jamestown in 1950. He died Nov. 3, 1973. She was employed at various places including Arnies Truck Plaza, Parkway Cafe, Gordons Chicken Inn and Northwest Y. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is survived by two sons, Darold (Donna), Jamestown, and Donald (Karen), Watertown, S.D.; a daughter, DeAnna (Charles) Simmons, Jamestown; a brother, Jay (Betty), Jamestown; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five grandchildren, her parents and four brothers.

Viola Fehling, 94, Kulm, N.D., died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale, N.D.

Viola Hein was born March 7, 1914, in McIntosh County, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Christina (Fregien) Hein. She was baptized in the Congregational faith and was confirmed at Merricourt Congregational Church on June 10, 1928. She grew up in rural McIntosh County and attended rural school. She married Henry Fehling on June 3, 1933. They farmed with her parents until they moved to Burnstad, N.D., where they farmed for a short time. They purchased a farm 5 miles west of Kulm. He died on Oct. 22, 1986. In 1987, she moved into the house where her parents used to live in Kulm. She was a member of Ladies Aid of the Nazarath Congregational Church, Fredonia, N.D., and later First Congregational Church, Kulm. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers, fishing and the outdoors.

She is survived by five daughters, Lucille (Oscar) Klipfel, Forbes, N.D., Verna (Elmo) Knutson, Minneapolis, Velora Krueger Hensley, Breckenridge, Minn., Judy (Dennis) Mammel, Wesleco, Texas, and Caroline (Larry) Dallmann, Edgeley, N.D.; two sisters, Gladys Bauer, Wishek, N.D., and Esther (Hilbert) Dittus, Anchorage, Alaska; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son; a daughter; parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Donnie Fercho, 76, Bozeman, Mont., formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Bozeman.

Mr. Fercho was born June 28, 1931, in Lehr, N.D., the son of Albert and Lydia (Tarnasky) Fercho. He grew up and attended country school near Lehr. He attended high school in Streeter. He farmed near Lehr from 1950 to 1952. He married Elenor Wentz on Nov. 22, 1950, in Streeter. They moved to Devils Lake, N.D., where he attended Lakewood Park Bible School. In 1958 they moved to Alfred, N.D., where he was an interim pastor and a plumber. In 1959 they moved to Bowesmont, N.D., where he was pastor of Assembly of God Church. He received his license to preach in 1960 and became an ordained Assembly of God minister in 1962. In 1968 they moved to Glendive, Mont., where he was pastor of Glendive Assembly of God Church until 1978. From 1978 until 1997 he was in the Evangelistic Ministry. He did interim ministry and carpentry at Grandview Retirement Home until 2007. He retired in 2007 and they moved to Bozeman. He enjoyed fixing things and playing the "Fercho family version" of Chinese checkers.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Sandy (Gary) Bishop, Townsend, Mont., and JoAnn (Brian) Mims, Phoenix; two sons, Jim (Nancy), Malta, Mont., and Mark (Michelle), Bozeman; two sisters, Erma (Willie) Mayer, Jamestown, and Marcella Kassman, Fargo, N.D.; two brothers, Earl, Pablo, Mont., and El Ray (Delight), Streeter; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Frank A. Fettig, 88, Napoleon, N.D., died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, after a battle with cancer.

Mr. Fettig was born was born Aug. 29, 1920, at Napoleon, the son of Anton and Barbara (Schlosser) Fettig. He married Margaret Wald on Oct. 23, 1944 at St. Anthony Church, rural Napoleon. They farmed northeast of Napoleon in Kidder County until 1955 when they sold the farm and moved to Napoleon. He worked at Wentz Chevrolet for 8 years, Farmers Union for 8 years, City Employer and Deputy Police for 2 years and in 1972 joined Napoleon Elementary School as head custodian. He also maintained the City Park for several years. In 1984 he retired from his custodial position and worked part-time for 6 years at the Napoleon landfill. He married Mary (Wald) Laurent on Feb. 24, 1990, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Frank entered the Napoleon Care Center on March 17, 2009. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Philip Catholic Church. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, doing yard work and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Fettig, Napoleon; two sons, Frank (Rosanne), Escondido, Calif., and Robert (Jackie), Bismarck, N.D.; three daughters, Mary Ann Porter, Winter Park, Fla., Diane (Tom) Quinn, Dry Ridge, Ky., and Mary Kathy (Dale) Chmielewski, Bismarck; a stepson, Wayne (Joyce) Bridges, Belle Chasse, La.; a stepdaughter, Donna Harsdorff, Gretna, La.; a brother, Joe (Veronica), Napoleon; two sisters-in-law, Betty Fettig and Margaret Fettig; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

John A. Fettig, 72, Napoleon, N.D., died Jan. 23, 2001, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.

Mr. Fettig was born July 26, 1928, on the family farm in rural Logan County, north of Napoleon, the son of Anton A. and Barbara (Schlosser) Fettig. He grew up on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural Logan County Schools. He served in the Korean War from 1951-53. He returned to the family farm. He married Margaret Hilsendeger June 8, 1954, in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. In 1961 they purchased the family farm, where they lived and farmed until 1982, when they moved into Napoleon. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He served as a board member on the FmHA Board, Napoleon Fire Department, Farmers Union Elevator, Glendale Township Board, and St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He served on the American Legion building committee, as past American Legion commander and as a Napoleon ambulance squad driver. He enjoyed farming and dancing.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Rich, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ronald (Colleen), and Kenneth, both Napoleon; two daughters, Carol (Lonnie) Wentz, and Connie (Rick) Schumacher, both Napoleon; two brothers, Frank A. (Mary) and Joe A. (Veronica), both Napoleon; a sister-in-law, Betty Fetting, Napoleon; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben A. and Valentine; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Wald Fettig.

Melvin Clinton Fetzer, 72, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Fetzer was born Oct. 26, 1935, south of Venturia, N.D., the son of William and Amanda (Boschee) Fetzer. He attended the local rural school and worked on the farm. He worked on construction building the Garrison Dam and at the Minot (N.D.) Air Force Base. He joined the National Guard at age 17 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married Miriam Erbele on Aug. 4, 1957, in Streeter, N.D. They lived on a farm south of Wishek, where they farmed for 50 years. He was active in the United Methodist Church of Wishek and farm organizations, serving as president of the McIntosh County NFO. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and buffalo, and collecting antique tractors.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Michael (Sandy), Mandan, N.D., Mark (Shelli), Colfax, Calif., and Marlin (Tracy), Zeeland, N.D.; a daughter, Mardell (Kenyon) Raile, Colstrip, Mont.; four brothers, Robert, Wishek, Eugene (JoAnn), Williston, N.D., Milton (Sherry), Castle Rock, Colo., and Timothy (Jean), Shakopee, Minn.; three sisters, Virginia (Oliver) Bettenhausen, Wishek, Geraldine (Lawrence) Lippert, Williston, and Lorraine (Roland) Ketterling, Bismarck, N.D.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and special friends, Bill and Susan Johnson, Burnsville, Minn.

WILLISTON , N.D. - Sandra "Sandi" Fetzer, 58, a longtime Williston resident, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston with the Rev. April Peterson officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be at Riverview Cemetery at a later date.

Sandra Anderson was born Jan. 23, 1945, at Drayton, the daughter of Wesley and Hazel (Schey) Anderson. At a young age the family moved to Tioga, where Sandi was raised and educated.

Sandi was united in marriage with Harley Fetzer on July 16, 1961, at the First Lutheran Church in Tioga. To this union three children were born.

Sandi and her family made their home in the Tioga, Belfield and Williston communities. In 1979, Harley and Sandi helped form H&L Rental Inc. of Williston, of which she remained president to the day of her passing.

She was a member of the Ladies Petroleum Club, the Williston Country Club, the Elks Lodge and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Sandi was a very caring and giving person, always looking after the needs of others. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and watching and feeding birds and other wildlife. Sandi also had an artistic side that she expressed through floral arranging and painting. She also had a passion for antiquing.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Angela Simmons and her husband, David, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sons, Kelly Fetzer and his wife, DeAnn, of Houston, Texas and Kent Fetzer and his wife, Annette, of Bismarck; two grandchildren, Karlee and Garret Simmons; her mother, Hazel Anderson of Tioga; a sister, Mary Normark and her husband, Lars, of Tioga; two brothers, Ronald Anderson and his wife, LaVon, of Tioga and Phil Anderson of Williston; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at the Everson Funeral Home in Williston and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston.

Ernest "Ernie" Fey, 85, Missoula, Mont., died Jan. 14, 2007, at St. Patrick Hospital, Missoula.

Mr. Fey was born Dec. 24, 1921, at the family farm near Kulm, N.D., the son of Robert and Ida (Siewert) Fey. He grew up on various farms in LaMoure County. He attended grade school in Kulm and graduated from Kulm High School in 1941. He entered the armed forces in July 1942 and was in basic training at Fort Eustis, Virginia. He left the United States on Sept. 27, 1942, sailing on the Queen Mary. He served in Africa, Corsica, Italy, France and Germany. He returned three years later on Sept. 27, 1945, on the Queen Mary. He was discharged with the rating of tech corporal. He returned to Kulm and worked for several farm families. He was employed by the Red Owl Food stores in Ellendale, N.D., and then Kulm. He married Delories Herman on Jan. 25, 1948, at the Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm. They lived in Jamestown for three years and he worked for the National Food Co. He worked for Buttrey Food Stores, Havre, Mont., in 1951. He transferred to Buttrey Food Store, Missoula, in 1953. He retired as manager of the Eastgate Buttrey store, Missoula, in January 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Missoula, and a retired Presbyterian Elder. He enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Marie Hilscher and Ruby (Russell) Gackle, both Kulm; and a brother-in-law, Gerald (Marilyn) Herman, Choteau, Mont.

LeRoy Albert Fey, 75, Ashley, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Fey was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Rosenthal Township, North Dakota, south of Fredonia, N.D., the son of Albert and Lydia (Wolf) Fey. He grew up on the family homestead and attended country school. He graduated from Kulm (N.D.) High School in 1949. He worked on the family farm. He married Elda Knoblich on Oct. 13, 1957, at Berlin Baptist Church, rural Fredonia. In 1958, they purchased a farm west of his parents’ farm. They later sold the farm and moved to Ashley. He purchased the John Deere dealership in Ashley in November 1971. In December 1971, he was awarded a Ford dealership, which he operated until October 1981. He married Idella Knoepfle Goehring on Jan. 12, 1991, at Ashley Baptist Church. He was active in the dealership until 2004 when poor health forced him to curtail his activities. He was a member of Ashley Baptist Church and former member of Berlin Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and held several other church offices. He was a past member of Ashley Lions Club, Ashley Chamber of Commerce and McIntosh County Memorial Hospital board member from 1976-1978. He served as an Ashley city councilman from 1978-1986 and from 1994-1998 and was mayor of Ashley from 1986-1990. He enjoyed visiting, working with customers, the Minnesota Twins and collecting old cars.

He is survived by his wife, Idella; two sons, Lyle (Carol) and Clyde (Gina Ketterling), both Ashley; a daughter, LaRae (Kip) Utter, Bismarck; a stepdaughter, Sheila Goehring, Bismarck; a stepson, Charles (Cheryl) Goehring, Ashley; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Helen Fiechtner, 100, Lehr, N.D., died Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2008, at the Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, N.D.

Helen Schrenk was born Feb. 17, 1908, on the family farm in Ketterling Township 12 miles south of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Rosina (Goebel) Schrenk. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up near Lehr. She married Jacob Werth on Nov. 11, 1928, at Lehr. They made their home on a farm 6 miles south of Lehr. He died in an accident in 1947. She then moved into Lehr. She married Carl Fiechtner on July 7, 1950, in Lehr. They lived in Lehr. He died in 1970. She was a babysitter for several children. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr, the King Homemakers Club and the Lehr Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Kauk, Lehr; a stepson, Walter (Martha) Fiechtner, Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters, Lavera Youker and Eleanor Winkinwerder, both of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son and daughter-in-law, Darvin (Leona) Werth; a son-in-law, Clavin Kauk; two step-sons, Herbert and Eugene Fiechtner; a brother, Harold; and a great-grandson, Freddie Werth.

Mr. Fiechtner was born July 11, 1933, near Lehr, N.D., the son of Gustav and Hulda (Koenig) Fiechtner. He grew up and attended rural country school in the area where he also helped on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1955 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He was discharged on Jan. 11, 1957, at Ft. Lewis, Wash., with the rank of private first class. He married Norma Rasmusson on Jan. 19, 1957, in Bremerton, Wash. He married Loretta (Veil) Muller on Feb. 18, 1977, in Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown and he continued to farm by Lehr. He retired in 1988. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed playing the accordion and the organ.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; three daughters, Angela (Charles) Knapp, Fargo, N.D., Sheila Fiechtner, Plymouth, Minn., and Cindy Thurmon, Bremerton, Wash.; a son, Randy (Carolyn), West Fargo, N.D.; a step-daughter, Kristie (Dan) Hermanson, Zimmerman, Minn.; a brother, Marvin (Maryann), Wishek, N.D.; a sister, Verdella Jackson, Vista, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fiechtner was born July 12, 1930, at northeast of Lehr, N.D., the son of Christ and Martha (Tiede) Fiechtner. He grew up and attended country school. He farmed on the family homestead raising small grains and livestock his entire life. In 1994 he moved to Ashley, where he worked at Blumhardt Manufacturing for three years. He also worked for the Green Thumb program at the city water plant.

He is survived by a brother, Harvey (Ramona), Gackle, N.D.; and two sisters, Hilma Gieszler, Jamestown, and Alfrieda Meidinger, Ashley.

Graveside services: 3 p.m. today, Martin Luther Cemetery, Fredonia, N.D., with the Rev. Jeff Giles officiating.

Freda Finck, 82, Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Wishek Hospital, Wishek.

Freda Kienzle was born April 12, 1921, at the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Christof and Christine (Job) Kienzle. She grew up in Streeter, where she attended the local rural school and received her elementary education. She married Paul Finck on June 15, 1939, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived and farmed northwest of Lehr, N.D. In 1968 they moved into Lehr. He died in 1981. In May 2003 she entered Wishek Retirement Home. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Lehr.

She is survived by her three daughters, Marlys (William) Wanner, Wishek, Darlene (Don) Flath, Tuttle, N.D., and Bonnie (Aaron) Dewald, Lehr, two sons, Richard (fiancee, Loretta Triepke), Jamestown, and Thomas (Corrine), Lehr; a brother, Leo, Jamestown; a sister, Lydia Weisz, Jamestown; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, five brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.

Viola Finck, 76, Napoleon, N.D., died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Viola Kienzle was born Jan. 5, 1925, on the family farm near Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Christoph and Christine (Job) Kienzle. She grew up and attended school in the Streeter area. She married Raymond Fink on Aug. 31, 1945. The couple farmed in the Lehr, N.D., area until they moved to Napoleon in 1959. She worked for Dr. Edward Goodman at the Napoleon Clinic for many years.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Diane (John) Mitzel, Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Freida Finck, Lehr, and Lydia Weisz, Jamestown; a brother, Leo, Jamestown; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bertha Fischer, 106, Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Bertha Schmidt was born Oct. 9, 1899, at the family farm eight miles northwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Georing) Schmidt. She grew up in the area and attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She married Fred F. Fischer on Dec. 11, 1919, at the Blumenfeld Country Baptist Church, Stutsman County, North Dakota. They lived and farmed two and a half miles northwest of Gackle until December 1943. They then moved into Gackle. He died March 27, 1966. She moved to Wishek Home for the Aged on Feb. 18, 1999. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, Baptist Gleaners Society and a 72-year member of Mayer-Morlock Post 250 American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Elroy (Ruth), Gackle; a sister-in-law, Annette Schmidt, Grand Forks, N.D.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 10 brothers and three sisters.

Donald Fischer, 56, Jamestown, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the Veterans Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Fischer was born Aug. 9, 1947, in Jamestown, the son of Walter E. and Rose (Ackerman) Fischer. He attended school in Streeter, N.D., and graduated from Streeter High School in 1965. He entered the U.S. Army on April 12, 1966, and served until his discharge on March 25, 1968, with the rank of SP4. He lived in Jamestown where he worked on road construction for Northern Improvement. He married Diane Hochert on Aug. 30, 1985, in Huron, S.D. They lived in Sydney, Mont., where he worked at a lumber yard until moving to Glendive, Mont., where he was an assistant manager in a hardware store. He retired in 1993 due to health reasons and returned to Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Wade, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Heidi (Adam) Eckel, Las Vegas; two stepdaughters, Holly Ford, Jamestown, and Lynette Krein, Minnesota; mother, Streeter; a sister, Delores (Lester) Brady, Bismarck, N.D.; two grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

Rose Fischer, 89, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Rose Ackerman was born Aug. 5, 1916, at Streeter, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Stroh) Ackerman. She grew up in the area and received her elementary education in the local rural school. She married Walter E. Fischer on Nov. 24, 1938, in Streeter. They lived on a farm four miles west of Streeter until 1942. They moved to a farm north of Streeter, where they farmed until 1944. They then moved into Streeter. In 1952, they moved to Napoleon, N.D. They returned to Streeter in 1954, when he became manager of Streeter Co-op Oil Co. He died Feb. 4, 1969. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Streeter.

She is survived by a daughter, Deloris (Lester) Brady, Bismarck, N.D.; five brothers, Walter, Jamestown, Edwin (Veronica), Venturia, N.D., Reuben, Gackle, N.D., Hubert (Eileen), Yelm, Wash., and Elmer (Dena), Litchfield, Minn.; five sisters, Helen Fischer, Elk Grove, Calif., Lydia Reich, Minot, N.D., Frieda Wittmier, Steele, N.D., Emma Hins, Jamestown, and Edna Niskanen, Mount Iron, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Maurice and Donald.

Mrs. Albert Fischer, 57, lifelong resident of Gackle community, died Friday evening, August 16^th, 1968 at the Gackle Hospital. She had been hospitalized one month following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 20, 1968 at 2 p.m. in the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle with Rev. Carl Frost, pastor of the Mandan Baptist Church officiating. Rev. R. C. Stading, pastor, and Rev. Kirwin Goodwin, Minneapolis, assisted. Burial was held in the Gackle cemetery. Haut Funeral Home in Gackle was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fischer, the former Tillie Rivinius, was born March 1, 1911, at the family farm home three miles northeast of Gackle in Stutsman County, daughter of John Rivinius and Pauline Remboldt Rivinius. She received her education in the local rural schools.

On December 19, 1941, she Albert Fischer were married in Gackle and they had make their home there since. Mrs. Fischer was a member of the Baptist Church in Gackle.

Survivors includes her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Norbert Homola (Alberta), Brush Prairie, Wash.; four grandchildren; three brothers, Conrad, Rueben, and Lenhardt Rivinius, all of Gackle; and six sisters, Mrs. Rose Frandrich, Wilton; Mrs. Ernest Hehn (Bertha) and Mrs. K. D. Schlittenhard (Katie), both of Gackle; Mrs. A. J. Ketterling (Lydia), Bismarck; Miss Freida Rivinius, Mandan; and Mrs. Kirwin Goodwin (Ida) Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Walter E. Fischer, 52, Streeter businessman, died Feb. 4 in the Jamestown Hospital after being a patient for two weeks.

The funeral was Friday at the St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Streeter with Rev. Norman E. Nething Jr., Pastor, Officiating. Miss Bonnie Kubler played a program of organ music. A men's quartet, Milton Iszler, Milton Schwarzwalter, Harley Ketterling and Donald Schauer sang with Mrs. Albert Kinck playing the accompaniment.

Mr. Fischer was born April 18, 1918, at the family farm home southwest of Streeter in Logan County, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fischer.

On Nov. 24, 1938, he and Rose Ackerman were married in Streeter. They farmed four miles west of Streeter until 1942 when they moved to a farm north of Streeter. In 1944 they moved into Streeter where they resided until 1952 when they moved to Napoleon where they lived for two years. In 1954 when they returned to Streeter Mr. Fischer became manager of Streeter Co-op Oil Co. He was vice president of the Streeter Lions Club, life member of the Streeter Fire Department, a member of the Streeter Wildlife Club and had served many years on the Streeter City Board. He had served as deacon of St. Lukes Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Mrs. Lester Brady (Deloris), Streeter, Maurice Fischer, Fargo; and Donald Fischer, at home; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs Barbara Fischer, Streeter; five brothers and sisters, Jacob Fischer, St. Paul; Edward Fischer, Sacramento, Calif.; Gilbert Fischer, Franklin, Calif.; Mrs Ida Henderson, Chicago, and Mrs. Ephriam Dewald (Erma), Streeter.

Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Remboldt, Leo Spitzer, Theo Dewald, Gottlieb G. Maier, Edwin Fischer, Bennie Buck, Everett Brunner, and Adam Schumacher.

Active pallbearers were Arthur Wittmier, Elmer Ackerman, Rueben Ackerman, Edwin Ackerman, Norman Niskanen and Valentine Hins. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Streeter, with Haut Funeral Home in charge.

Pearl Fish, age 95, of Valley City died Oct. 12th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, Oct. 18th at the Elim Evangelical Free Church in Valley City with Rev. David Montecuollo officiating. Visitation will be from 3 PM until 7 PM Wednesday at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Stella Pearl Fish was born Jan. 7, 1912 on the Bell Ranch in rural Logan County, near Streeter, North Dakota the daughter of George R. and Exelena Ruth (Bell) Harris. She grew up and received her education there. She was a cook for Bible camps and later helped her mother operate a home for foster children. On July 29, 1960 she was married to Lloyd Fish at Valley City. The couple made their home at Jamestown. Lloyd passed away in 1990 and in 1991 she moved to Valley City. In 2005 Pearl moved to the Sheyenne Care Center.

Survivors include a step-son Wesley (Norma) Fish of Savage, MN, 5 step-grandchildren and 7 great step-grandchildren, and 4 great great step-grandchildren, and 5 nieces and nephews, Joyce Nelson, Atlanta, Ga, Ronald (Rita) Harris, Valley City, ND, Barbara (Jay) McCarty, Fargo, ND, Steven (Julie) Harris, Franklin, TN, and Dale (Gerri) Harris, Valley City, ND, and several great nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a step-daughter, Lucille Nelson, 3 brothers Everett, Ray, and Floyd Harris, and a sister Opal Johnson.

Helen Walker Fisk, 93, Jamestown, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Helen Greenshields was born June 20, 1917, at Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Frank and Susan (Ritchie) Greenshields. She grew up and attended school in Fargo. She graduated from Fargo High School in 1935. She graduated from North Dakota State University, Fargo, in 1939, with a degree in home economics. She taught in New England, N.D., and Fessenden, N.D., until 1941. She married Allen Fisk on June 30, 1942, at Fargo. She was a homemaker. They lived in North Dakota until 1960 when they moved to Silver Springs, Md. They moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1962, then to Bismarck, N.D., in 1973. He died in 2000. She entered Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown, in December 2007.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Fisk, Edina, Minn., and Sally (Keith) Domke, Jamestown; a sister, Jane Bibelheimer, Bismarck; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Scott; her parents; two brothers; and a sister.

Duane Alton Fjeld, 61, of Lake Park, Minnesota, died March 7, 2007, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, Minnesota.

Duane was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, June 23, 1945, to Stanton and Doris (Sanstad) Fjeld. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1963. After attending North Dakota State University for two years, he returned to Lake Park to farm with his father and brother on the family farm.

On September 3, 1977, he married Sandra Gienger in Gackle, North Dakota. They had two daughters, Michelle and Heather. After farming full time he began working in construction in the late 1980’s. In 1994, he began driving truck for Agriliance in Moorhead.

Duane was a member of Lake Park Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and reading. He loved people and visiting, and always had a story or joke to share. He was happiest when he was on his farm caring for his calves, driving his tractor, and playing with his dog, Potser. Duane was a loving, caring, giving and devoted husband, father, and friend and he will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister-in-law, David & Phyllis Fjeld.

Lloyd Herbert Flaig, 93, Jamestown, formerly of Alfred, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Flaig was born May 6, 1917, at Alfred, the son of John and Elsie (Holweg) Flaig. He attended the local rural school and Jamestown High School, Jamestown. He attended the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years. He joined the U.S. Army on April 14, 1932, in Bismarck, N.D. He served in the European and African Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged at Camp Shelby, Miss., on Nov. 21, 1945, with the rank of private. He married Ida Bossert on Nov. 1, 1946, in Jamestown. They lived on a farm seven miles north of Jud, N.D., where they farmed. In 1948, they moved to a farm northwest of Gackle, N.D., where they farmed until 1970. They moved to a farm north of Jud where they lived until August 2009, before moving to Jamestown.

Lavon Flemmer, 71, Jamestown, N.D., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in Jamestown Hospital.

Lavon Larson was born March 25, 1926, near Woodworth, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On June 26, 1947, she married Albert Flemmer in Woodworth. They farmed near Pettibone, N.D. Later they owned and operated Red Owl Agency, Pettibone. In 1967 they moved to Jamestown. He died in 1981. On May 19, 1984, she married Eugene Hall in Jamestown.

Peder J. Florhaug, age 83, of Kensal, ND, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, in his home under hospice care in his home under hospice care.

Peder Florhaug was born September 9, 1924, the son of Peder Florhaug Sr. and Mary (Pitra) Florhaug, at the family farm near Kensal, ND. He attended rural school and graduated from Kensal High School in 1942. He trained as a machinist at Ellendale and then was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington. On September 13, 1945, Peder married Lois Nelson in Kensal, ND. They purchased a farm northeast of Kensal and lived there until 1985, when they moved in to Kensal. Peder continued farming with his son, Roger. Peder enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, served many years on the board of directors of the Kensal Farmers Elevator, and Nogosek Township board.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Florhaug, Kensal, ND; one daughter, Kathy Odegaard, Bismarck, ND; two sons, Steven (Karla) Florhaug, Austin, TX, Roger (Nadine) Florhaug, Kensal, ND; eight grandchildren, Mike Odegaard, Susan Odegaard, Christy Yantis, Peder Florhaug, Jessica Eastman, Matthew Florhaug, Daniel Florhaug, Ross Florhaug; 6 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Wildermuth, Kensal, ND.

Peder was preceded in death by his parents, Peder and Mary; one brother, Myron, and one sister, Phyllis Schlecht, and a son-in-law, Walt Odegaard.

Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Fode, Gackle, mother of O. W. Fode, Jamestown, were held Sunday afternoon in the high school auditorium in Gackle, Rev. R. Kirschman, Congregational pastor, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Brown and Rev. N. S. Johnson, pastors of the Baptist and Presbyterian churches, respectively.

Hymns were sung by the men's choir, by Rev. and Mrs. Kirschman, and by Mrs. A. W. Zimmerman and Miss Helen Remboldt. A group sang at short services at the home.

Burial was in the Gackle cemetery, with pallbearers A. W. Zimmerman, Jack Knopp, John Borth, Henry G. Bonemeyer, Simon Bieber and Adam Kurtz.

Mrs. Fode was born in Russia, August 29, 1864. She and her husband John Fode, who died in August 1928, came to Logan county from South Russia in 1897. They farmed for a few years then moved into Gackle, when that town was started.

Mrs. Fode passed away March 3 at a Bismarck hospital where she had been a patient for a week. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia. Deceased had been ill with arthritis for three months and recently received treatment at Trinity hospital.

Survivors are four daughters and two sons. Mrs C. F. Kaz, Anna M. Fode and Mrs. Martha Morrison, all of Gackle; Mrs. Emanuel Koenig, Marsh, Mont., Theodore Fode, Billings, Mont., and O. W. Fode. She also leaves two brothers and one sister, Henry and David Schlenker and Mrs. Pauline Wagner, Alfred; 31 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Those attending the funeral from Jamestown were Mr. and Mrs. Fode and daughter Della Mae, two cousins, Mrs. Mathilda Wieland and Mrs. Clarence Sorenson, and Mrs. John Hertel.

Dorraine "Dorie" Fode, 80, Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.

Dorraine Marilyn Tompkins was born Oct. 21, 1929, at Dazey, N.D., the daughter of Glen and Alvina (Fischer) Tompkins. She lived in various towns in North Dakota, receiving her education and graduating from high school in Jud, N.D. She married Donald Fode on Jan. 16, 1950, at Moorhead, Minn. They lived in Fargo, Jud and Jamestown before moving to Huron, S.D., in 1964. He died May 4, 1991. In 1997, she moved to Pipestone, Minn., and in 2009, she moved to Sioux Falls. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Kelby (Jan) and Brent (Dawn), both Sioux Falls, and Mark (Darcel), Greeley, Colo., a daughter, Lori (Dave) Sternborg, Sioux Falls; a sister, Murial Nitschke, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Doug and Darrel; her parents; and a grandson, Kyle Fode.

Gary R. Fode, 69, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Fode was born Feb. 6, 1941, at Jamestown, the son of Theodore and Norma (Yetterboe) Fode. He grew up and attended school in Jud, N.D., graduating in 1959 as valedictorian. He attended college for office machine repair in Wahpeton, N.D., for two years. He moved to Jamestown and worked repairing office machines. He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 3, 1961, at Fargo, N.D. He served overseas and was discharged on Oct. 26, 1963, with the rank of private first class. He married Mary (Geiger) Johnson on Jan. 24, 1966. They later divorced. He repaired office machines until 1989. He enjoyed camping, going to coffee, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Mary, Jamestown; a step-son, Richard Johnson, Jamestown; two step-daughters, Jo Marie (Curt) Wiest, Jamestown, and Vickie (Mark) Lura, Sanborn, N.D.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Todd; a daughter, Terri; and a brother, Kenneth.

Harold George "Fritz" Fode, 78, Arthur, N.D., formerly of Fargo, N.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Arthur.

Mr. Fode was born April 23, 1926, on the family farm near Jud, N.D., the son of George and Elizabeth Fode. He received his education in Jud public schools, Dakota Business College, Fargo, and Moorhead (Minn.) State College. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army in March 1945. He received his basic training in Fort Sill, Okla., and served with the 972 Signal Service Battalion in Hawaii. He was discharged in June 1946. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves for four years while farming in the Jud area. His reserve unit was recalled in 1950, to serve with the 465th Field Artillery Battalion at Camp McCoy, Wis. He went to Korea in 1951, serving with the 9th Field Artillery Battalion until he was honorably discharged in July 1952, with the rank of staff sergeant. He married Marie A. Drenth on June 6, 1948, on the Drenth farm. They farmed north of Jud before the Korean conflict. After trying unsuccessfully to return to farming in the Jud area when he was discharged from the Army, he attended Dakota Business College. He worked for 32 years at every level of the accounting field for Northern States Power Co., Fargo, the last 10 years as the NSP credit supervisor, Fargo division. He retired in January 1988.

He is survived by his wife; a son, George (Becky), Fargo; a daughter, Marcia (Stan) Buchholz, Billings, Mont.; a sister, Mabel Johnston, Fargo; and three grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo.

Katherine Fode, 95, died Feb. 7, 2002, in a Centralia, Wash., care center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, Bismarck, the Rev. Willis Potratz officiating.

A Centralia resident since 1997, Fode was born Dec. 5, 1906, at Gackle to Gottlieb and Elizabeth (Bentz) Bender. She married Otto Fode, and they owned and operated a Super Valu Food Store in Hazelton.

After her husband's death, Katherine lived in Everett, Wash., where she was a member of Temple Baptist Church before moving to Centralia.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Mark Ely, Golden, Colo., and Stephen and Michelle Fode, both of Playa Del Ray, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Alissa Ely, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Rosemary Ely; and a son, Howard.

Mr. Fode was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Gackle, N.D. He moved around with his family, living in several communities in Montana before moving to Lodi, Calif., in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After military service he returned to Lodi where he worked at the Pinkerton Foundry. On June 13, 1948, he married Ethel Bunnis in Detroit Lakes. In 1949 they moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked for Charles Chesley. He began working for the City of Detroit Lakes Street Dept. in 1969, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary (Patty), Moorhead, Mark (Paula), Fargo; a daughter, Kathryn Dow, Frazee, Minn.; five brothers, Edwin (Freda) ...

Sara Fode, 88, Jud, N.D., died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Sara Zundel was born Feb.12, 1916, at the family farm home northwest of Edgeley, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Emma (Frey) Zundel. She attended Kulm (N.D.) School and later graduated from Edgeley High School. She attended Ellendale (N.D.) Normal College. She taught school for 33 years, 26 of those years in Jud, and continued substitute teaching many years into retirement. She married Floyd Fode on June 29, 1947, at Jud. They lived on a farm north of Jud. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Jud. She enjoyed teaching, reading, crocheting and playing piano.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Randall, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Nicolee (Gary) Thomas, Rochester, Minn.; four brothers, Baldwin, Tampa, Fla., Calvin (Marcella), San Luis Obispo, Calif., Ted (Virginia), Colorado, and DelWayne, New Castle, Wyo.; a sister, Maggie Quaschnick, Bismarck, N.D.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Theodore (Ted) Fode, 56, life long resident of the rural Jud, North Dakota community died unexpectedly late Tuesday afternoon February 7, 1967 at the family farm home seven miles northeast of Jud in LaMoure County.

He was born September 11, 1910 at the family farm home seven miles north of Jud in LaMoure County, the son of George Fode and Elizabeth Koenig Fode. He attended the local rural school and grew to manhood on the family farm where he worked with his parents.

He and Norma Yetterboe were married October 3, 1934 at Jamestown, North Dakota. They began farming and have lived on the same farm to the present time.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, Kenneth Fode, Alfred, N.D., and Gary Fode, Jamestown, N.D., seven grandchildren, two brothers and eight sisters, Ada (Mrs. Floyd Johnston), Montivideo, Minn., Elizabeth (Miss Elizabeth Fode), Spokane, Wash., Bertha (Mrs. Ivan Smith), Alice (Mrs. Arnold Johnson), Edna (Mrs. Roy Gilmore), all of Eugene, Ore., Pauline (Mrs. Henry Fode), Dorothy (Mrs. Helmer Williamson), both of Jamestown, N.D., Mabel (Mrs. Lawrence Johnston), Carrington, N.D., Floyd Fode, Jud, N.D., Harold Fode, Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services for Mathew M. Forkel, age 89, Ipswich, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at First Baptist Church, 1500 E. Melgaard Road, Aberdeen. Pastor Jerry Morgan of Eureka will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Aberdeen. Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 this morning until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and from noon Wednesday until the time of service at the church.

Mathew M. Forkel was born Sept. 14, 1909, to Matt and Christina (Hanamm) Forkel in McPherson County near Hosmer. He attended rural school in McPherson County and later in Edmunds County. On March 18, 1934, he married Rose Schroeder [born in Gackle, parents Jacob & Fredricka Schroeder]. They lived on a farm northeast of Roscoe until 1959, when they moved into Ipswich. He continued to farm. He was always active, serving on various positions in his church. He was a former North Bryant Township supervisor, had been finance chairman of the Edmunds County Republican Party, and was Mayor of Ipswich for four years. He was a member of the Northeast Council of Governments; Development Corporation, The Jalmer Corporation and had served on the Ipswich Hospital Board, where he always sold many tickets to the annual hospital supper.

Mathew and Rose enjoyed traveling over the years and visited every state in the United States.

In March of 1996 they both became residents of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Ipswich. Rose passed away on Aug. 26, 1997.

Casketbearers will be David Forkel of Ipswich; Gary Duvall of Aberdeen; Darryl Tuttle of Ramsey, Minn.; Bill Tuttle of Dunseith, N.D.; Sam Ryman of Sioux Falls; and Dennis Forkel of Midland, Mich. Honorary casketbearers will be Kerwin Forkel, Shannon Ryman, Leslie Forkel and Steve Ryman. Staff of the Colonial

He is survived by two sons, Raymond (Elaine) Forkel and Lester Forkel, both of Ipswich; two daughters, Deloris (Mrs. Cliff) Tuttle of Fargo, N.D., and Janet (Mrs. James) Peitz, of Eugene, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ann Geist, Tillie Rosin and Martha Smith, all of Aberdeen, Emma Geist of Faulkton and Lena Lindeman, Wichita, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, three brothers and one grandchild.

Marvel May Erbele was born April 1, 1922, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Alta (Cooper) Erbele. She attended school through seventh grade in Streeter, eighth grade in Forman, N.D., and graduated from Beach (N.D.) High School in 1940. She attended Valley City State Teachers College, Valley City, N.D. She married Ray Emery Freadhoff on Oct. 29, 1950, at Nortonville Methodist Church, Nortonville, N.D. They farmed in the Nortonville area until they retired in 1974 and moved to Jamestown.

She is survived by two sisters, Doreen (Richard) Jordan, Cross Lake, Minn., and Mary Carol Evenson, Greeley, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Harry and George.

Richard Fregien, 86, Jamestown, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Fregien was born March 9, 1922, north of Jud, N.D., the son of Gottlieb and Mary (Nitschke) Fregien. He grew up in the Jud area and attended the local rural school. He helped on the family farm. He farmed the family farmstead with his brothers until he retired in 1980. He moved into Jud in 1998. In 2004 he entered Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, until moving to LaMoure Care Center, LaMoure, N.D., in 2007. He returned to Ave Maria Village in November 2008. He was a member of the UCC Church, Jud.

Eugene "Gene" Freier, 78, Medina, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Freier was born Aug. 23, 1932, south of Streeter, N.D., the son of Jacob and Tillie (Wentz) Freier. He grew up in the Streeter area and attended the Grenz farm school for eight years. He helped on the family farm. He moved to Bismarck in 1953, and worked at refinery and power plants in Mandan, N.D. He married Joyce Nienow on Feb. 14, 1957, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter. They lived with his parents until April 1957, when they moved to a farm southeast of Streeter until 1964, when they purchased the Henry and Amelia Simmon’s farm 12 miles southwest of Medina. He attended the United Methodist Church, Medina, and served on the Streeter Fire Department and Newbury Township Board. He enjoyed gospel music, playing pinochle, attending truck and tractor pulls and farming.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jackie (Dennis) Slaughter and Tammy (Dean) Moser, both Medina; a son, Greg (Karla), Medina; four brothers, Lawrence (Coreen), Bismarck, Lonnie (Sandy), Glyndon, Minn., and Terry (Sara) and Tom (Melinda), both Fargo, N.D.; three sisters, Francis (Wallace) Perman and Betty Freier, both Bismarck, and Esther Perman, Streeter; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Albert Frey, 95, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Friday June 4, 2004, in Mesa.

Mr. Frey was born Oct. 9, 1908, near Streeter, the son of Philip and Frederica (Schneid) Frey. He attended the local rural school, where he received his elementary education, and grew up in the area. He married Pauline Rivinius on March 31, 1935, at Streeter. They lived near Wheatland, N.D., where they farmed for several years. After they retired they moved into Fargo, later moving to Hastings, Minn., and Lodi, Calif. In 1997 they moved to Mesa.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Pat Klebs, Hastings, and Janet White, Cranberry, Pa.; a sister, Lorena Frey, Minneapolis, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

LeRoy M. Frey, 77, Jamestown, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Frey was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Hebron, N.D., the son of Theodore J. and Emma L. (Herman) Frey. He grew up in Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School. He joined the U.S. Army on Jan. 12, 1951, and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in January 1954 and returned to Hebron. He married Frances Reineke on May 27, 1955, in Hebron. He attended mortar school and was a partner in Herman & Frey Construction Company, New Salem, N.D. He later sold insurance. He moved to Jamestown where he was a custodian for Jamestown Public Schools and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed sports, bowling, playing cards and dancing.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Kevin) Stayton, Bismarck, N.D.; seven sons, Allen (Charleen), Glendive, Mont., Scott, Daniel, Robert, Joseph (Diane) and Kristopher, all Albuquerque, N.M., and Darryl (Tanya), Post Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Rosaline Reineke, Bismarck, and Sharon (Roger) Riedlinger, Elgin, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Raghnild Frey, Mandan, N.D.; a special friend, Florence Scherbenske, Jamestown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Darvin Lee "Fred" Friederich age 63 of McCanna died Sunday, October 11 near Larimore.

Darvin Lee Friederich was born July 18, 1946 at Kulm, ND, the son of Paul and Lydia (Fuchs) Friederich. At the age of 5 he moved with his family to Jamestown where he was raised and received his public education. In July, 1963, he entered the United States Air Force and served in the Medical Corp in Vietnam. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1985 as Master Sgt., retiring from the Grand Forks Air Force Base following 22 years of service. Fred married Gayle Carpenter on September 21, 1973 in Lebanon, Illinois. Following his military career, Fred and Gayle managed the Legion Lanes in Larimore for 10 years. For the last eight years, he worked for Civil Service at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, doing snow removal.

Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling and golfing. He was loved by his family and many friends, and all who met him.

Surviving members of his family include his wife Gayle, McCanna; daughter Amy (Brad) Burns, Larimore; son Kevin Kalmer, Clinton, Illinois; 5 grandchildren: Hayley, Allison, Jake, Bode, and Baron; sister Marlene (Vern) Schultz, Jamestown; brother Calvin (Jeannie) Friederich living in the state of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A TIME OF GATHERING FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS will be held at the Larimore American Legion on Thursday, October 15 from 4:00 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 Prayer Service.

Flag presentation will be by the Ted Valerius Post No. 97 of the Larimore American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Elm Grove Lutheran Church of McCanna.

Visitation for family and friends of Amelia "Kay" Frisbie will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Nevada City Chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.

She was born on April 3, 1910, in Gackle, N.D., to Christian and Katherina (Goehring) Kroll, the 12th of 13 children. She taught for two years in a one-room school house before attending nursing school. She worked as a surgical nurse in Minneapolis, Reno and southern California before retiring.

She married Dennis Edward Frisbie on Jan. 21, 1942, in Reno. They divorced in 1984, and she moved from Beaverton, Ore., to Grass Valley to be near her daughter-in-law and granddaughters.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Dennis Edward Frisbie of Grass Valley; daughter, Judy Frisbie of Seattle; sister, Pauline York of Lodi; daughter-in-law, Barbara Frisbie Juneau of Nevada City; and three granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Michael Frisbie in 1978.

Margo of Bolster’s Towing, passed away in her home with her family by her side on December 4, 2007 after a short battle with cancer. Margo was born October 3, 1953 in Jamestown, ND to Erick and Lorna (Larson) Holmgren. She has an older brother, Lorence, and a younger brother, Michael. She was raised at the family homestead north of Kulm, ND and attended school in Kulm.

Margo met Dennis Frownfelter on April 20, 1969 while roller skating in Jamestown. They were married three years later on April 21, 1972 in Edgeley, ND. Margo and Dennis lived north of Bismarck, ND on a feedlot where Dennis worked for four years. Their children, Todd and Tina, were born in Bismarck.

Margo and Dennis fell in love with the Flathead Valley while visiting Dennis’ brother, Donald. The family moved here in April 1976, and purchased the farm where they currently reside in September of 1976. Margo enjoyed milking cows and raising pigs. She helped Dennis run the farm while the kids were growing up. The family often took pack trips in the mountains with the horses; they were members of Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead for many years. Margo taught many members how to back up a pickup / trailer combination; not many people could parallel park a pickup and a two horse trailer on Main Street in Kalispell like she could.

While Dennis worked construction with Donald, Margo was a substitute custodian for School District 5. In the fall of 1985, the new neighbors introduced Dennis to Maynard Bolster, owner of Bolster’s Towing. Dennis started working for Maynard part-time during the winter and was full-time soon after. Margo would go with Dennis on long calls and help with recoveries. Maynard convinced Dennis and Margo to buy him out in 1990. Margo enjoyed driving the tow trucks, she could back the truck and vehicle better than any other driver including Dennis; the shops would tease the drivers about calling Margo if it took them more than one try to back a vehicle into their shop.

In 1992 Margo and Dennis started expanding the business by purchasing their first tow truck other than the five that came with the business. The business allowed them to travel (tow vehicles) to Denver, Seattle, Portland, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Yukon Territory and Prescott, AZ. They also purchased tow trucks or had them built in Salt Lake City, Portland and San Francisco Bay Area. In 1994 Todd started driving tow truck and Tina worked in the office until 2000 when she started work for Flathead County.

Margo started bowling at Skyline Bowl’s Monday Little League, after a few years, she started sponsoring a team. Margo enjoyed bowling; she recruited driver’s wives, her daughter and future employees. She quit bowling a few years before the alley burnt down. She needed the extra time for her Christmas Carmel Rolls. As many of you know, the rolls are a Thank You to businesses that give Bolster’s their patronage throughout the year. When Margo and Dennis bought Mountain Towing in Whitefish, the list grew even more. Last year Margo and the rest of the office staff made 174 dozen rolls.

In 1999, Margo joined Dennis at the Mountain Tow Truck Association meetings as the Mountain Towing representative. They alternated with Todd’s family attending the state conventions; one other driver and spouse attended also. Margo was the planner for the 2007 convention in Kalispell this past September. She was elected the Secretary for 2008.

Margo and Dennis really enjoyed their trip to Sweden in April 2006 with Lorence and Connie to visit Margo’s relatives. Her goal was to learn Swedish and call Monica’s mother. Last month, Margo talked about how much fun it would be if the family could chip in and buy a house in Sweden for the family to share. She would have loved to go back to Sweden again to visit the relatives and her new friends.

Her parents, Erick and Lorna, numerous aunts, uncles and father-in-law, Ira Frownfelter, preceded Margo in death.

Margo is survived by her husband, Dennis, son Todd (Mindy) and her only grandchildren Daniel and Kimberly, and daughter, Tina, all of Kalispell. Her brothers, Lorence (Connie) and Michael (Della), Aunt Frieda Larson, Uncle Wilbur (Carol) Holmgren, 5 nieces and 3 nephews (and their families) in North Dakota. Her in-laws Donald, Raphael, Bernadine, Kenneth and Christine plus 4 nieces (and their families). Margo’s many friends and her unofficial children Robert and Lisa. She treated their employees like family.

The viewing is Friday, December 7th from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Because of size and time of year, services will be held Saturday, December 8th - 11:00 am at Easthaven Baptist, 2010 Whitefish Stage Rd, in Kalispell. Burial will be at Conrad Memorial Cemetery and the reception/potluck is at the Helena Flats School, 1000 Helena Flats Road, Kalispell. Please bring a dish for the reception.
