Harry Kalmbach, 45, lifelong resident and farmer of the Jud Community died early Friday morning, October 7, 1966 at the family farm home in Raney Township six miles west of Jud in LaMoure County. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

He was born March 11, 1921 at the family farm home northwest of Jud in LaMoure County, the son of Emanuel Kalmbach and Katie Fode Kalmbach. He attended the local rural school and grew to manhood on his parents farm.

On April 9, 1948, he and Annie Moos were married in Gackle, North Dakota. They farmed seven miles west of Jud until 1949 when they built a new farm six miles west of Jud, where the family now lives.

He is survived by his wife, a son Wayne age 9, a daughter Lori age 6, his mother Mrs. Katie Kalmbach, Gackle, N.D., one sister, Delores (Mrs. Albert Netzer), Alfred, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1950 and an infant son. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, October 11, 1966 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jud Congregational United Church of Christ in Jud with Rev. Edward Dahmer, Wishek, North Dakota, officiating. Burial was in the Jud Cemetery.

John Kammerer, 81, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Kammerer was born Nov. 28, 1915, near Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Oct. 26, 1939, he married Alida Veil in Gackle, N.D. They farmed near Streeter. In 1963 they moved to Jamestown, where he worked at North Dakota State Hospital. He retired 1980. She died in 1993.

He is survived by a son, Reuben, Oakes, N.D.; three sisters, Theresa (Ed) Emigh, Lockford, Calif., Anna Hoersch, Sacramento, Calif., Pauline (Ross) Peterson, Citrus Heights, Calif.; and three grandchildren. ...

John Kammerer Sr., 83, of Streeter, died Jan. 25 at the Central Dakota Nursing home, Jamestown, where he had been a patient for the past three and one-half years.

Final rites were Friday in St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Streeter with Rev. Walter Borchardt officiation. Burial was in the Streeter Lutheran cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donald Bier, Daniel Dockter, Norman Miller, Reuben Kammerer, Lyle Meeker and Wilbur Buck.

Born Jan. 23, 1883, at Klein-bergdorf, South Russia, Mr. Kammerer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kammerer. He grew up in his native country and served in the Russian Army.

His marriage to Carolina Rickert took place in South Russia in 1903 and she died there on April 16, 1909. He married Christina Gienger on June 26, 1909, also in South Russia and they came to the Untied States in 1911, locating in Gackle.

They farmed southwest of Gackle until 1942 when they moved into Streeter to reside. Mrs. Kammerer died Aug. 5, 1954. Mr. Kammerer went to Jamestown in 1959 to make his home. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Street.

Surviving are nine children, Mrs. Fred Guthmiller (Carolina), Mrs. Louis Dockter (Emma), Mrs. Pauline Dockter, and John Kammerer Jr., all of Jamestown; Mrs. Jacob Bier (Lydia), Medina; Mrs. Joe Miller (Christine) and Gottlieb Kammerer, Streeter; Mrs. John Kassman (Theresa) and Mrs. Rudolph Hoersch (Anna), Sacramento, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and three children. (Eddy Funeral Home)

Pauline Kammerer, 89, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in her home.

Pauline Weisser was born April 16, 1910, in Burnstad, N.D., where she grew up, attended school and farmed with her family. On Dec. 21, 1929, she married Gottlieb Kammerer in Logan (N.D.) County. They farmed near Streeter, N.D., until 1969, when they sold their farm and moved to Jamestown. He died in 1985.

She is survived by a daughter, Arlis (Wilbert) Buck, West Fargo; two brothers, John, Mandan, N.D., August, Wishek, N.D.; a sister, Emma Eiseman, Wishek; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ...

Otto Kanewischer, 92, of Jamestown, North Dakota died April 24, 2010 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Otto was born on February 10, 1918 in Lehr, North Dakota, the son of William and Emma (Dallman). He was raised and received his education there. On June 25, 1943 he married Mabel Gutschmidt in Lehr. The two made their home in Jamestown, where they raised their four children. Otto entered the military in 1941 and served his country during World War II until 1945. While living in Jamestown, Otto worked many years for Montgomery Ward as an electronic technician. During his retirement, Otto enjoyed volunteering at the Anne Carlsen Center, the Jamestown Hospital and Ave Maria Village.

Along with volunteering, Otto was also active in his church, enjoyed being a part of his bowling league and horseshoe league and spending time at the family farm in Lehr.

Otto is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mabel, Jamestown; one daughter, Cindy Colon, St. Paul, MN; three sons, David (Gwen), White Bear Lake, MN, Dennis (Lori), Fallbrook, CA, and Steven (Monica), Franklin, TN; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and four sisters, Martha, Hilma, Hilda and Elsie.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating.

Carla Maureen Kangas, 49, 2720 4th Ave. N., Moorhead, Minn., died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Miss Kangas was born July 1, 1950, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. she grew up in Wolf Lake, Minn., and graduated from Menahga (Minn.) High School. She worked for Bell Telephone, Detroit Lakes. She also worked for Gibb & Sons, Cass County Abstract Co. and Red River Title Services, all Fargo.

Clarence Kapp, 69, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Kapp was born June 4, 1940, at Crystal Springs, N.D., the son of Jacob Sr. and Mary (Gardner) Kapp. He received his elementary education in Tappen, N.D. He joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 5, 1957. He was discharged on Feb. 4, 1959, at Fort Lewis, Washington, with the rank of private first class. He married Gloria Wentz on Nov. 13, 1960, at Leads, S.D. They lived in Fargo, N.D., and then moved to Tappen where he was a truck driver. They moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he was employed as a diesel mechanic. They returned to North Dakota in 1988 and he worked for Mayer Truck Line, Jamestown, until he retired. She died Sept. 27, 2009 [2006]. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Tappen, and Christ of the King Church, Jamestown.

He is survived by two sons, Scott, Jamestown, and Todd (Celyn), Minneapolis; five brothers, Bill (Clara), Crystal Springs, Jake (Nona), Larry (Connie) and Dale (Teresa), all Dawson, N.D., and Ted, Tappen; three sisters, Loraine Binder, Steele, N.D., Karen Marzolf, Eldridge, N.D., and Linda Kapp, Tappen; a brother-in-law, Oscar Hoffman; and a sister-in-law, Linda Kapp; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three brothers, Walter, Eugene and Daniel; a sister, Betty; and two brothers-in-law, Ruben Binder and Donnie Marzlof.

Daniel E. Kapp Jr., 43, Medina, N.D., died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Triumph Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Kapp was born Sept. 5, 1966, at Jamestown, the son of Daniel Sr. and Carolyn (Witt) Kapp. He attended Medina High School. He worked for the Medina Cheese Plant, then Kramlich Locker, Medina, and area farmers. He began working for Wedgcor Manufacturing, Jamestown, in 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting model cars, restoring old cars, pets and attending derbies and tractor pulls.

He is survived by his mother, Jamestown; a sister, Teresa (Gaylan Schultz) Kapp, Medina; and two brothers, Allen (Kari) and Chad (Jessica), both Jamestown.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Mr. Kapp was born May 4, 1936, in Tappen, N.D., the son of Jacob and Mary (Garner) Kapp. He grew up in the Tappen and Crystal Springs, N.D., areas. He married Carolyn Witt in September 1966, in Steele, N.D. He worked for Northern Improvement Construction Co., Bismarck, N.D., for 36 years. He enjoyed horses, building things and his dog, Poncho.

He is survived by three sons, Daniel Jr., Medina, and Allen (Kari Thompson) and Chad (Jessica), both Jamestown; a daughter, Teresa Kapp, Jamestown; six brothers, William (Clara), Crystal Springs, Clarence, Jamestown, Teddy, Tappen, and Jake (Nona), Larry (Connie) and Dale (Teresa), all Dawson, N.D.; four sisters, Lorraine Binder, Steele, Karen Marzolf, Eldridge, N.D., and Linda Kapp and Linda Kapp, both Tappen; and five grandchildren.

Edna Kapp, 83, Bismarck, died Dec. 28. 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Frist Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Stanley Malmgren and Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Edna was born April 18, 1916, in Eureka, S.D., the daughter of John and Katie (Libus) Holzworth. She later lived in Streeter, Burnstad, and Wishek. She then moved to Napoleon, where she met and married Ephraim Kapp, Dec. 19, 1947. They moved quite often before settling in Bismarck. Edna worked as a maid at various hotels in Bismarck. She enjoyed gardening and baking.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Vernon and Carol Kapp, Mandan, and Floyd and Judy Holzworth, Bismarck; two daughters, Betty Holzworth, Bismarck, and Linda Erickson, Seattle; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Charles and Alvina Hamel, Napoleon, Elmer and Tillie Wentz, and Arlene Conitz, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Delores Holzworth, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ephraim; her son, Jim; one sister; and four brothers.

Esther Kapp, 83, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Esther Alma Eslinger was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Emmanuel and Hannah (Wolfe) Eslinger. She graduated from Kulm (N.D.) High School and later attended Ellendale (N.D.) Teacher’s College. She taught school at rural Fredonia, N.D., and Lehr, N.D., for four years. She married Ray Kapp on Aug. 12, 1945, in the Fredonia Congregational Church. The family moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1950 where they lived for many years. In 1956, they committed their lives to the Lord and attended Bible college. They became missionaries to Hanau, Germany, where they ministered to many in the armed forces and others. They returned to the U.S. in 1963 and moved to Brookings, S.D. They later pastored churches in Beaver Crossing and Seward, Neb. They returned to Fredonia to serve Berlin Baptist Church for eight years until they retired. She taught Sunday school, led Bible studies and enjoyed playing organ and piano.

She is survived by her husband, Kulm; four daughters, Cheryl (Ramon) Omana, Richmond, Va., Carole (Brian) Burgess, Denver, Colo., Paulette Kapp, Aberdeen, N.C., and Joy (David) Thornton, Matthews, Va.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Evelyn; and a brother, Paul.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Fredonia Congregational Church, Fredonia, with the Revs. Bernie Jaskins and Bob Woodstruck officiating.

Olga G. Kapp passed away unexpectedly at her home in Rapid City on Wed., April 7, 2010. She was born Olga Geneva Olson to Ole and Gina (Arneson) Olson in Stutsman County, North Dakota, on May 27, 1932. She attended school in Medina, graduating from high school in 1951. She worked as a telephone operator in Medina.

She married David Kapp on July 12, 1952, and they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. She continued working as an operator until the birth of their first daughter, Karen Ann in 1954. They managed a farm for part of the time they were still in North Dakota. Olga bottle fed many lambs and drew great satisfaction from caring for animals.

They moved to Rapid City in 1957 to follow Dave’s employment and have lived here ever since. Another daughter, Donna Kay, was born in 1959 to complete the family. Olga was a devoted mother and wife, and she loved spending time with both of her daughters. Later in life, she partnered with her husband to care for the park shelters and public enjoyment areas of Rapid City, as seasonal workers for the Rapid City Parks Department.

Olga loved music, playing the piano and accordion by ear, as well as the autoharp. She adored watching the Atlanta Braves on TV, and was very much looking forward to following them this season. She always had her nose in a puzzle book, and she enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, Days of Our Lives and Wheel of Fortune.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, three brothers—Edwin, Alfred and Sever—a sister, and two stillborn brothers. Grateful for having shared in Olga’s life, she is survived by her daughter, Karen (David) Goldammer of Black Hawk, and Donna (Gary Hascal) of Dallas, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 14 from 4:30pm to 7 pm and one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral will be held at Kirk Funeral Home on Thursday, April 15 at 10 am, with Pastor Eric Grinager officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.

Raymond "Ray" Kapp, 84, Kulm, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Kapp was born June 18, 1925, in McIntosh County, North Dakota, the son of Konrad and Mary (Eisenbeis) Kapp. He grew up and attended the local school where he received his elementary education and general education. He later attended Bible college at Grace Bible institute, Omaha, Neb. He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 12, 1943 and served during World War II. He was discharged on Feb. 26, 1945, at Corona, Calif., with the rank of FN2. He married Esther Eslinger on Aug. 12, 1945, in the Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, N.D. They moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1950 where they lived for many years. In 1956 they attended Bible college. They became missionaries to Hanau, Germany, where they ministered to those in the armed forces and displaced persons who escaped from Eastern Germany. They returned to the United States in 1963 and ministered in Brookings, S.D. They later pastored churches in Beaver Crossing and Seward, Neb., and returned to Fredonia to pastor Berlin Baptist Church for eight years until they retired.

He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl (Ramon) Omana, Richmond, Va., Carole (Brian) Burgess, Denver, Paulette Kapp, Aberdeen, N.C., and Joy (David) Thornton, Matthews, Va.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Adolph Bruno Karjalainen, 83, Fargo died Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in ManorCare Nursing Home, Fargo. A memorial service was held August 17 at the Church of God with Pastor Stephan Avants officiating and William Crone, eulogist.

Adolph Bruno Karjalainen was born April 5, 1915 in Gackle, N.D., to Andrew and Greta Karjalainen. He moved with his family to Frederick, in 1929 where he grew up and worked in farming until joining the Army in 1941. After he was discharged in 1943, he moved to Fargo where he attended Hanson Auto School to be a machinist. In 1944 he joined Nelson Optical Co. He trained as an optician at Sheron Optical Company in Geneva, N.Y. There he learned lens theory and mechanical optics. He worked for Nelson Optical for 18 years, joining Bausch and Lomb in Fargo in 1979 and worked there until retirement.

Religion was important in his life and he was very active in his church. His hobbies were playing accordion, drawing and photography. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, gentleness, and generous ways.

He is survived by his daughter, Clydeen Johnson, Gilbert, Ariz.; a grandson, Christopher Formanek, Gilbert, Ariz., granddaughter, Anne Formanek, Mesa, Ariz.; his sister, Lillian Hunter, and her two grandchildren.

He was a brother to Arjile and Leonard Karjalainen of Frederick.

Caroline Karn, 100, Jamestown, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Caroline Clara Mack was born July 24, 1910, at rural Pettibone, N.D., the daughter of George and Clara (Bartel) Mack. She grew up on the family farm and attended the rural school. She married Orville Karn on Aug. 10, 1943, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Sykeston, N.D. They farmed in several places in North Dakota and lived in Michigan for a short time. They lived in Kensal, N.D. They retired in 1968 and moved to Jamestown. He died in 1993. She entered Ave Maria Village in 2004. She was a member of St. James Basilica and a lifetime member of the basilica’s Tabernacle Society. She enjoyed music, playing harmonica, dancing and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Orville (Lorna), Bozeman, Mont.; four daughters, Irene Eckroth and Ella Rettig, both Jamestown, Clara Oathoudt, Ypsilanti, Mich., and Rosa (Bruce) Ingold, Ivins, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law and a grandson.

Jewell Henne was born Feb. 12, 1930, at Edgeley, N.D., the daughter of Christian and Adeline (Dufloth) Henne. They lived in Alfred, N.D., until 1940 when they moved to Jamestown where she attended school and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948. She taught in rural schools for a short time. She married Francis Karn on Oct. 29, 1956, in Moorhead, Minn. They lived south of Wimbledon where they farmed. He died in 2008.

She is survived by a son, Dale (Sue), Wimbledon; two sisters, Glennis (Gary) Rath, Broadview, Mont., and Adeline Miller, Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Christina Kaseman, age 89 of Wishek, ND, died June 17, 1993 at the Wishek Retirement and Nursing Home.

Her funeral was June 19 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND, with the Rev. Richard Spiedel officiating. Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran Church Cemetery at Wishek, ND with Nickisch Funeral Home of Wishek, ND in charge of arrangements.

Christina Schilling was born May 2, 1904 to John and Rose (Kessler) Schilling at Bowdle. She grew up on a farm near Hosmer. She married Edward Kaseman Oct. 24, 1922, at the home of her parents. After their marriage the couple farmed 16 miles southwest of Wishek, ND, until 1060 when they moved into Wishek. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. About four years ago she became a resident of the Wishek Retirement and Nursing Home.

Survivors include her husband of Wishek, ND; six sons: Arthur Kaseman, Clifton Kaseman and Howard Kaseman, all of Wishek, ND; Adam Kaseman of Gackle, ND; Marvin Kaseman of Fargo, ND and Edward Kaseman of Bismarck, ND; two daughters: Leona Kaseman of Stockton, CA; and Mrs. Lyle (Erna) Tallman of Bothell, WA; one sister: Maggie Sulzle of Gettysburg; one brother, Jacob Schilling of Bowdle; 26 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Edward Kaseman was born on September 4, 1900. He was the son of Bernard and Paulina, nee Hepper, Kaseman. He grew up on his parents' farm, sixteen miles southwest of Wishek. On October 24, 1922, he married Christina Schilling. She was born on May 2, 1904, the daughter of John and Rosina, nee Kessler,. Schilling, who lived on a farm 10 miles west of Hosmer, South Dakota.

After their marriage, they moved to the farm of Edward's parents, where they lived for five years. In the year 1927 they started to build a farm of their own. The location was one mile southwest of his father's farm. They built a house and barn at an estimated cost of $2,200. Livestock consisted of a few horses and cows.

When the drought came in the 1930's, things were not easy for the young family. By the grace of God they managed to get through those hard times. Being the parents of six sons was not to be taken lightly, when war came. All six passed their physicals for military duty, and four served overseas. One served in the national guard. All returned safe and sound.

To this marriage, six sons and two daughters were born: Arthur, a farmer, at Wishek; Adam, a trucker, at Gackle, North Dakota; Leona, a housekeeper, living at Stockton, California; Erna Tallman, a nurse, at Bothell Washington; Clifton and Howard, who farm near Wishek; and Marvin and Edward Jr., co-owners of Kaseman Electric, at Linton, North Dakota.

Mr. and Mrs. Kaseman retired in 1965 and are living in Wishek at the present time. The nine and one-half quarters of land acquired in their years of farming now belong to the children. The Kasemans celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1972.

Elvina Kaseman, 92, Ashley, N.D., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Ashley Nursing Home, Ashley.

Elvina Christina Janke was born Sept. 15, 1917, on the family homestead north of Venturia, N.D., the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Schwenk) Janke. She grew up and attended rural school in Albrights Valley District and helped on the family farm. She married Edwin Kaseman on Nov. 15, 1936, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northwest of Venturia. They lived on a farm they rented north of Venturia. He died May 1977. She continued to operate the farm until 2001 when she entered the Ashley Nursing Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, past member of Venturia Homemaker’s Club and Venturia Ladies Aide. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking and the outdoors.

She is survived by three daughters, Evangeline (Melvin) Fregien, Three Forks, Mont., Elvina Moldenhauer, Great Falls, Mont., and Genevieve (Norman) Meidinger, Bismarck, N.D.; three sons, Wayne (Virginia), Ashley, Donald, Venturia, and Mark, Vacaville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, James; her parents; seven brothers and sisters; and a grandson and a granddaughter.

Gertrude Kaseman, 89, Bismarck, N.D., formerly Wishek, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Gertrude Meidinger was born Sept. 22, 1921, near Zeeland, N.D., the daughter of Albert C. and Emma (Schwindt) Meidinger. She married Arthur E. "Art" Kaseman on Sept. 23, 1945, at New Kassel Reformed Church, rural Zeeland. They lived on a farm southwest of Wishek. She was a homemaker and helped with farming. They retired and moved into Wishek. He died in February 1996. She moved to Bismarck and later to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Wishek Eagles. She enjoyed bingo, playing piano and reading.

She is survived by three daughters, Ruby (Dale) Schantz, Peoria, Ariz., and Marion Houn (Rod) Warner and Janice Bitz, both Bismarck; five sisters, Luella (Delton) Davis, Bismarck, Alma (Walter) Rath and Alvina (Herman) Meidinger, both Wishek, Lorraine (Adam) Kaseman, Jamestown, and Arlene (Melvin) Kaseman, Aberdeen, S.D.; five brothers, Wilbert (Landina), Marvin (Delores), and Wilmer (Wilma), all Wishek, Edgar (Phyllis) and Ellon (Rachel), both Zeeland; nine grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Viola; and a son-in-law, Junior Bitz.

Mr. Kaseman was born Dec. 1, 1949, at Bismarck, N.D., the son of Adam and Lorraine (Meidinger) Kaseman. He attended school in Kulm, N.D., graduating from Kulm High School in 1967. He attended North Dakota State University for electrical engineering and was active in ROTC. He entered the U.S. Air Force on April 1, 1972, and served until March 31, 1992. He was discharged with the rank of major. He married Venetia Rickard on May 5, 1988, at Svendborg, Denmark. They lived in Germany, Oklahoma and Lakota. He received his masters degree for systems management in California. He worked as a flight simulator instructor at the Grand Forks (N.D.) Air Force base. He also flew for Trans Merridian Airline and in 1999 started flying for Northwest Airlines. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, N.D., and the Lakota Fire Department.

He is survived by his parents; wife; a daughter, Ysella Kaseman, Houston, Texas; two sons, Tremayne and Quillan, both Lakota; two sisters, Sue Bartholomew, Mandan, N.D., and Christina (Dave) Bhend, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; two brothers, Corey, Bismarck, and Curt (Kim), Jamestown.

Mr. Kassman was born April 28, 1929, in Streeter, N.D., the son of Adolph and Bertha (Hermann) Kassman. They moved to a farm north of Robinson, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He helped on the farm for a short time before moving to Jamestown, where he worked at M & H gas station. He joined the U.S. Army on July 23, 1952, in Steele, N.D., and was an infantry instructor. He was discharged on June 21, 1954, at Fort Bliss, Texas. He married Marcella Fercho on June 6, 1952, in Streeter. They returned to Jamestown and he continued to work at M & H. They moved to Grand Forks, N.D., and six years later they moved to Fargo, where he continued to work for M & H until he retired in 1995.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Tom (Nancy), West Fargo, N.D.; two daughters, Bonnie (Russ) Docken, Owatonna, Minn., and Laura (Jon) Brahos, Fargo; two sisters, Gladys (Harold) Weers, Seattle, Wash., and Betty (Fred) Stewart, Moses Lake, Wash., and six grandchildren.

Alzina Yancey was born Oct. 26, 1922, at Blackfoot, Idaho. She attended the local school and graduated from Blackfoot High School. She moved to San Francisco, Calif., where she worked in No. 3 shipyard as a time keeper for many years. She married Albert Kauk at Reno, Nev. They lived in Richman, Calif., where she worked for the Mary Ellen Jam Company. They moved to Streeter, N.D., in 1966. She enjoyed making candy, baking and canning.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Scott Schue and Terry Poling; a brother; two sisters; and several grandchildren.

She married Calvin Kauk on Oct. 7, 1954, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived on a farm seven miles north of Lehr until 1957, when they moved to a farm six miles southwest of Lehr. He died July 16, 1992. She moved into Lehr in 1977. She attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr.

Raymond Kauk, 84, Napoleon, N.D., died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Kauk was born Jan. 28, 1926, at Artis, S.D., the son of Peter and Margarthea (Schlichenmayer) Kauk. He grew up on the family farm in rural Lehr, N.D., and attended country school thru the eighth grade. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 7, 1944. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and became a prisoner of war for three months at a German prison camp. He was discharged from the Army on Nov. 2, 1945. He married Hilma Denning on March 16, 1948, in Lehr. They farmed north of Napoleon for 31 years and moved to Napoleon in 1980. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and gardening.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, LeRoy (Diane), Vancouver, Wash., and O’Neil (Peggy), Baldwin, N.D.; three brothers, Adolph (Bernice), Spearfish, S.D., Eddie (Verna), Bismarck, N.D., and Maynard (Yvonne), Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Anna Grignon, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Christina Keim, 88, Jamestown, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Christina Lessle was born Aug. 15, 1912, at the family farm home southwest of Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of Fredrick and Christina (Flemmer) Lessle. She grew up in the Napoleon area, receiving her elementary education in a local rural school. She married Benjamin Keim Nov. 19, 1931, at her parents' farm southwest of Napoleon. They lived on a farm near Turtle Lake, N.D., where they farmed until 1946. In 1946 they moved to Lehr, N.D., where she was a homemaker and cared for her aging father for many years. She also assisted her husband with the janitorial work at the school. She retired in 1974. He died July 29, 1982. Following his death, she continued to reside in Napoleon. In 1995 she entered the Gackle Care Center. In 1996 she moved to Jamestown, where she entered the Central Dakota Village. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lehr, Dorcas Secretary, Children's Division Sabbath School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, embroidery and studying the Bible.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Keim, Bismarck; a sister, Emma Hauck, Bismarck; and a sister-in-law, Hulda (Keim) Sillippi, Topeka, Kan.

Leona Marie Keim, 83, Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Rock Lake, ND, died Friday, May 28, 1999 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.

Funeral services were held this morning at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake with Fr. Jeffrey Wald and Fr. Robert Smith officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cando, ND.

Casketbearers were Richard Lang, Duane Lang, Eugene Lang, Jerome Uhlenkamp, Ralph Gangl, Alfred Gangl and Ed Miller. Honorary bearers were Gary Heller, George Heller, Darrel Lagein and Cary Eriksson.

Leona Lang was born Aug. 14, 1915 at Starkweather, ND the daughter of Michael and Anna (Gangl) Lang. She was raised and attended school and church there.

She was united in marriage to Paul Keim on Sept. 30, 1941. They farmed in the Rock Lake area until retiring in 1983 when they moved to Devils Lake. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Jude’s Altar Society.

She is survived by her children, Carol (James) Schuler of Devils Lake, Charles Keim of Rock Lake and Colleen (Michael) Mattson of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Ardell, Tami and Aaron Schuler, Tiffany (Schuler) Schultz, Sarena (Mattson) Selbo, Amber Mattson and Claudio and Ricardo Keim; and siblings, Donna Laturnus of Cando and Roman Lang of Devils Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister, Regina Neussendorfer; and brothers, Alvin, William and John Lang.

Renee Lu Keller, 48, Fredonia, N.D., died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at MedCenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Renee Lu Lang was born July 23, 1952, at Jamestown, the daughter of Otto H. and Lydia (Bollinger) Lang. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Ashley, N.D. She attended country school there and graduated from Ashley High School in 1970. She attended Northern State College, Aberdeen, S.D., for two years and worked at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen, for two years. She began working at First Federal Savings and Loan, Ashley, in 1975 and later at Metropolitan Federal Bank. She married Donald Keller March 5, 1977, in the Baptist parsonage at Fredonia. She became branch manager of Hometown Credit Union in Ashley in 1988. She was a member of Ashley Baptist Church, the Ashley Jobs Development Authority and the Ashley Chamber of Commerce, and was a former member of the Ashley Medical Center Board. She enjoyed playing piano, singing, crocheting, cooking, baking and cats.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Shawn (Bobbie Jo), Fredonia; a daughter, Crystal Keller, Fargo, N.D.; and three sisters, Marlies Beal, St. Louis Park, Minn., Myrtle (Dennis) Quaschnick, Aberdeen, and Rhonda Bader, Bismarck.

Mr. Kelly was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Gackle, N.D. He lived in LaMoure, N.D., before moving in 1942 to Fargo. On May 22, 1943, he married Edna Luoto in Moorhead. He worked in Fargo for Reinhard Bros. He drove bus for the city of Fargo for 17 years and later worked in security with the North Dakota State University Campus Police for 17 years, retiring in 1981.

Gordon Henry Kemmet, 80, Bismarck, died suddenly July 1, 2008. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, at United Church of Christ, 1200 E. Highland Acres Road, Bismarck, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors provided by Bismarck AMVETS.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and continues Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Gordon was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Dawson, the son of John and Martha (Weigand) Kemmet. He attended school and graduated from Steele High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and worked as a medical corpsman until his honorable discharge in 1947. He then served with the Army Reserves until 1955. While with the Reserves, he met Phyllis L. Simmons in Steele and they were married Oct. 17, 1953.

Gordon worked with Northwestern Bell. When they updated his position name to service technician he still preferred the term "lineman." After a near perfect attendance record, he retired in 1986 with 38 years of meritorious service. He was proud to be a lifetime member of Communication Workers of America.

Although dedicated to his work and family, his true passion was singing. He sang with United Church of Christ Choir, Northern Lights Barbershop Chorus and Bismarck Mandan Elks Chorus. Gordon still loved a good game of pinochle with his best buddies at the VFW and AMVETS, where he was a charter lifetime member.

Among his numerous awards and citations he also played softball until age 75. He even played with the King and His Court, a four-man team that would take on any 9 to 10 member team, and was chosen All-Star as pitcher for the team. Gordon loved animals especially his twin miniature Dachshunds, Muffin and Magoo.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his daughter, Cynthia K. (Kemmet) Williams, her husband, Scott Williams, and their daughter, Gordon's grandchild, Avery Nicole Williams; his daughter, Michelle M. Kemmet; his son, Ronald G. Kemmet; one brother, Gerald (Martha) Kemmet; three sisters, Phyllis (Sam) Roemmich, Darlene Boukather and Loretta Cassano; three sisters-in-law, Rose (Simmons) Kenny, Betty (Simmons) Ouellette (Paul) and Barbara Simmons; one brother-in-law, Charles (Rose) Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Deloris Cunningham and Lila Kemmet; and two brothers-in-law, Merle M. Kenny and Arlis Simmons.

Melbert Kemmet, 84, Napoleon, N.D., died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Kemmet was born Oct. 12, 1924, near Dawson, N.D., in Kidder County, the son of Christian and Lena (Graf) Kemmet. He grew up and attended school in the Dawson area. He served in World War II from Feb. 21, 1945, to Dec. 9, 1946, where he served in the Philippines. He returned to Dawson and purchased a farm near his father’s farm. He married Alvina Rau on March 24, 1948, in Napoleon. They lived on the farm that he had purchased. After he retired they moved to Napoleon. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the American Legion where he served as commander for many years. He served on the Bunker Township Board, Napoleon School Board and Napoleon Rural Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Greg (Lois), Rosemount, Minn.; two brothers, Hilluard, Dawson, and Earl (Donna), Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Adeline (Clinton) Wentz, Peoria, Ill.; and a granddaughter.

KENNEDY, John Carroll — Age 72, passed away Jan. 28, 2004 at Mercy House. A poem by Marion Kelly described the last days he spent on earth "God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be. So he wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered "Come with Me." He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend. He faced his pain with courage until the very end. He tried so hard to stay with us, his fight was all in vain. God took him to His loving home and freed him from all pain."

He was born on March 16, 1931 to Jack W. and Lucille L. (Wedekind) Kennedy in Coquille, Oregon. On June 19, 1955, after his college days, he married Violet J. Meisenholder in Springfield, Oregon. Two girls were born to them: Diane Kennedy of Sparks, Nevada and Donna Kennedy of Roseburg, Oregon. John was on the committee to select the designs for the United Methodist Church and Douglas County Museum.

Activities during his life included: past President Lane/Douglas Bankers Assn., past Board Member Oregon Bankers Assn., past Treasurer United Methodist Church, past Vice-President of Oregon Jaycees, past President of United Way, Umpqua Chapter of ADA and of the Umpqua Audubon Society, past Chairman for the Renovation of the Flegel Center and Representative for the Oregon Eagle Foundation. John was a banker in various parts of Oregon, owned rentals in Roseburg and Bend, owned and operated Idleyld Store and started and operated Animal House with his daughter, Donna.

Surviving are his wife and two daughters, his step-mother, Noreta Lawler of Oceanside, California, cousins in Oregon, California and Arizona. To his good friends: Cliff and Alma Hein, Dean and lone Rammage and Woody Campbell, he will be waiting for you so the domino games can continue.

In accordance to his wishes there will be no memorial service. Contributions can be made to The American Heart Assn. of Oregon, The American Kidney Fund or The Diabetes Assn.

Gust Gottob Kerner, 66, 511 S. 31st St., died early Wednesday morning at his home.

Mr. Kerner was born May 2, 1903, at Jamestown, N.D., a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kerner. He attended schools in Jamestown.

He moved to Billings in 1933. He married Mildred Sincock, Oct. 27, 1944, in Lewistown, and the family lived Billings until his death.

He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Jake Heidema, Shepherd; a son, Jerome J. Kerner, 2314 7th Ave. N.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Helen Hasher, 1005 N. 24th St., and Mrs. Evlyn Krug, Culver City, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Georing and Mrs. Helen Brost, both of Gackle, N.D., and Mrs. Lydia Zimmerman, Jamestown, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jerome "Jerry" Kerner passed away Friday, July 27, 2007, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 25, 1931, to Tillie and Gus Kerner in Gackle, N.D., he moved to Billings at the age of three.

After graduation from Billings Senior High in 1950, he joined the Army in 1951, and was stationed in Japan. In 1956, he married Lois Ostrum. He worked at Pierce Packing for 29 years (until 1979), and retired from Conoco in 1991. Those who knew him, knew his passion for fishing, the outdoors and attending his grandchildren's functions. His kindness, generosity and forgiving nature will not be forgotten. He is survived by his wife Lois; his children Jerine (Don) Brunner, Michael (Tanya) Kerner and Rhonda Kerner; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild (his little tornado!).

Lorraine Kerner, 75, Jamestown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Central Dakota Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Lorraine Moser was born March 18, 1926, in Medina, N.D., the daughter of William and Mary Magdalena (Wahl) Moser. She attended school in Medina, graduating from Medina High School. Following graduation, she attended Valley City (N.D.) Teachers College, and taught school at Valley Spring Township. She married Harold Kerner Dec. 23, 1945, at First Congregational Church, Jamestown. She worked for B & O Drug and White Drug in Jamestown, for more than 20 years. He died Dec. 26, 1989. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie (Mike) Schensted, Houston, Texas, and Deborah (Vernon) Guthmiller, Omaha, Neb.; four sisters, Doretta (Vic) Carrion, Haywood, Calif., Marilyn (Archie) Zimmerman, Cleveland, N.D., and Martha (Emil H.) Trautman and Jan (Arlen) Haas, both Jamestown; two brothers, Adolph (Rita), Medina, and Harold (Norma), Titusville, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ketterling was born Aug. 24, 1930, at Fredonia, N.D., the son of Daboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling. He grew up and attended the local rural school near LaMoure, N.D., where he received his elementary education. He married Esther Payton on Sept. 21, 1950, at Ellendale, N.D. They lived in Jamestown where he worked as a mechanic and shop foreman for Midwest Motors until 1983. He worked at the Buffalo Mall from 1986 to 1993. He worked at Gene’s Auto Clinic from 1994 until he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Jamestown. He enjoyed his dog, Buster.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Marcy (Ron) Harvala, Moorhead, Minn., Juli (Chris) Cottrell, Lawrence, Kan., Debra Carroll, Texas, and Diane Ketterling, Sartell, Minn.; a son, Mark, Jamestown; six brothers, Henry and Lawrence, both of LaMoure, Louie, Ellendale, Daboldt, Jamestown, Alvin, Mesa, Ariz., and Palmer, Ellsworth, Wis.; and three sisters, Ella Beglau, Jamestown, Deloris Anderson, Marion, N.D., and Marcelle Nannega, Mesa, Ariz.

Anna Ketterling, 95, Streeter, N.D., died Monday, June 28, 2010, at St. Alexis Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Anna Marie Maessner was born Dec. 22, 1914, on the family farm 12 miles north of Glen Ullin, N.D., the daughter of John Sr. and Katie (Lux) Maessner. She was baptized March 10, 1915, and confirmed at the McIntosh Church. She received her elementary education at the rural school in Ashley. She assisted on the family farm. She married Reinhold Ketterling on Dec. 4, 1936, at the Ashley courthouse, Ashley, N.D. They lived on a farm near Guyson, N.D., for one year, then moved northeast of Ashley. They later moved to Ashley. He died May 7, 1957. She moved to Streeter in 1960. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Streeter.

She is survived by two daughters, Hilma Ketterling and Lorraine Ketterling, both Streeter; and a brother, Irvin Mossner, Luling, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters and seven brothers.

Arnold Ketterling, 80, Minneapolis, formerly of rural Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Ketterling was born Nov. 26, 1928, on the family farm near Wishek, the son of August and Katherina Ketterling. He graduated from Wishek High School in 1946, then studied accounting and business at the Dakota Business College in Fargo, N.D. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1952. He returned to the U.S., moved to Minneapolis and worked at several local companies as an accountant until his retirement from Shaw/Stewart Lumber in 1994. He enjoyed gardening and dancing.

He is survived by two brothers, Allen (Korrine), Mount Hope, Ontario, Canada, and Lester (Eunice) , Bottineau, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ketterling, Brainerd, Minn.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Walker Methodist Chapel, Minneapolis.

Mr. Ketterling was born Dec. 5, 1928, near Guyson, N.D., the son of Harold and Hilda (Fuchs) Ketterling. He grew up in the area and received his elementary education in the local school. He married Ella Bader on Sept. 11, 1952, in Fredonia, N.D. They lived on the family farm eight miles southwest of Fredonia. In 1964 they moved into Fredonia and continued to farm. He also did other jobs in the community. In 1968 they moved back to the farm where they farmed until 1997 when they retired. They moved to Lehr in June 2008. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, served on the church council, and was a member of the Fredonia Senior Citizens. He enjoyed collecting antiques and going to auction sales and flea markets.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Rachel Anderson, Plymouth, Minn., and Wanda (Wilbur) Zimmerman, Lehr; a sister, Janice Martin, Jamestown; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Harry Ketterling, 86, LaMoure, N.D., died Monday, July 4, 2005, at his home under hospice care.

Mr. Ketterling was born June 8, 1919, on a farm near Fredonia, N.D., the son of Deboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during 1940 in Custer, S.D. He entered the U.S. Army in July 1941, serving overseas during World War II. After being honorably discharged in October 1945, he returned home and began farming. He married Esther Jawaski on March 20, 1947. The couple lived and farmed in Monango, N.D. until moving to the family homestead near LaMoure in 1957. He farmed until he retired in 1982. In 1986, they moved into LaMoure. He enjoyed fishing on the James River.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gene (Becky), Olathe, Kan., and Rob (Zale), Edgeley, N.D.; two daughters, Sharon (Gerry) Burgess, Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda (Neil) Ness, LaMoure; seven brothers, Lawrence and Henry, both LaMoure, Albert (Esther) and Daboldt (Velda), both Jamestown, Louie (Olga), Ellendale, N.D., Palmer, Red Wing, Minn., and Alvin, Mesa, Ariz.; four sisters, Ella Beglow, Jamestown, Deloris Anderson, Marion, N.D., Edna (James) McLeod, Nanjimay, Md., and Marceal Nannenga, Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Hilda Ketterling, 100, Jamestown, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Ave Marie Village, Jamestown.

Hilda Ketterling was born Sept. 19, 1910, near Zeeland, N.D., the daughter of Adam and Louisia (Rudolph-Wiest) Ketterling. She attended the local rural school and received her elementary education. She married Adam Ketterling on Oct. 5, 1933, at her parent’s farm near Zeeland. They lived near Zeeland. She was a homemaker. They moved to rural Grand Rapids, N.D., in 1944, and later into Grand Rapids. In 1955, they moved to rural Marion, N.D. They moved to Jamestown in 1963. She worked as a housekeeper at Jamestown Hospital, at the Jamestown Laundry, as a housekeeper for Dr. Sorkness and as a seamstress. She retired in 1994. He died in 1992. She moved to Ave Maria Village in 2008. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by a son, Milbert W. (Jane), Warsaw, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Frieda Ketterling and Eva Ketterling, both Wishek, N.D.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Herman; parents; six brothers; a sister; four half brothers; and six half sisters.

John D. Ketterling, 88, LaMoure, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.

Mr. Ketterling was born Nov. 7, 1914, south of Fredonia, N.D., the son of Daboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling. He grew up and attended school. In 1934 the family moved to a farm north of LaMoure. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in California and Minnesota. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to LaMoure, where he farmed with his father and later with his brother, Henry until retiring in 1976. He entered St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, in December 2002. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, with his parents. He enjoyed wild boar hunt and shooting trap.

He is survived by eight brothers, Henry and Harry (Esther), both LaMoure, Louie (Olga), Ellendale, N.D., Lawrence, LaMoure, and Daboldt (Velda), and Albert (Esther), both Jamestown, Alvin, Mesa, Ariz., and Palmer, Red Wing, Minn.; four sisters, Edna (James) McLeod, Nanjemoy, Md., Ella Begleu, Jamestown, DeLoris Anderson, Marion, N.D., and Marceal (Ivan) Nannenga, Mesa, Ariz.

Lea E. Ketterling, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Lea Martel was born Dec. 23, 1917, at Wishek, the daughter of Leonard and Christina (Hagel) Martel. She grew up and attended rural school in the area. She married Edwin Eisenbeis on Nov. 25, 1937, at St. Luke Lutheran Church parsonage, Wishek. They lived and farmed in the Wishek and Burnstad, N.D., areas until 1946 when they moved into Fredonia, N.D. They moved to Wishek in 1950. She lived at Wishek Home for the Aged for 20 years. She married Alfred Schauer and later Ted Ketterling. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

She is survived by a son, Robert Eisenbeis, Fargo, N.D.; two brothers, Donald, Carson City, Nev., and Elmer, Minneapolis; a daughter-in-law, Carol Eisenbeis, Bismarck, N.D.; a son-in-law, Claude Baumann, Gillette, Wyo.; five sisters, Emma, Maggie and Polene, all Lodi, Calif., Eleanor, Prior, Mont., and Eva, Linton, N.D.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Ellis; and a daughter, Mavis.

Leslie Ketterling, 80, died March 18, 2007 in a Portland, OR hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday in Vancouver, WA.

Leslie was born March 10, 1927 in rural Logan County, North Dakota. His parents were Andrew and Margaret (Moos) Ketterling.

Lester Ketterling, age 69, of Bottineau, N.D., died Saturday, March 6, 2010, in Mesa, Ariz. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, at 10 a.m. in First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Burial will be in Oak Creek Cemetery, also in Bottineau. Visitation will be Friday, March 12, from 1 to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau.

Lester Ketterling, a son of August and Katherina Ketterling, was born Oct. 5, 1940, at Wishek, N.D. He attended school at the School for the Blind at Bathgate, N.D. After his graduation he attended the University of North Dakota and received a law degree. He began his career in Westhope as a lawyer.

On Oct. 12, 1974, he was married to Eunice Foss at Hazen. Lester became the County Justice and in 1987 was elected Bottineau County Judge. In 1991 they moved to Bottineau and Lester was elected in 1994 to be the District Judge. He retired in December 2005.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope and after moving to Bottineau became a member of First Lutheran Church. We will miss Lester's sense of humor and his hardy laugh.

Lester is survived by: his wife, Eunice, of Bottineau; a son, Jeremy Ketterling, of Bottineau; a brother, Allen Ketterling and his wife, Korrine, of Quebec, Canada; a sister-in-law, Mary Ketterling, of Brainerd, Minn.; brothers-in-law Ken Foss and his wife, Cheryl, of Hazen, N.D., and Sylvan Foss, of Reeder, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Turtle Mountain Cancer Support Group and First Lutheran Church of Bottineau.

funeral services for Mrs Lydia Ketterling, 69, wife of Fred Ketterling, 609 N. 23rd St., were held in Smith's Chapel Friday afternoon. The Rev. Fred Schneider of Pilgrim Congregational Church officiated.

Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers, all nephew of Mrs. Ketterling, were Morris, Harley, Lawrence and Leonard Ketterling; Alvin Grenz and Herbert Herman.

Mrs Ketterling died Wednesday in a Bismarck, N.D., hospital. Survivors include the Widower, three sons, a daughter, two brothers, a sister and seven grandchildren.

Lydia Ketterling, 82, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Dec. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Lydia was born Feb. 17, 1915, at Gackle to John and Paulina (Remboldt) Rivinius. She was raised near Gackle and attended country schools. As a young woman, she moved to Elgin and worked in her uncle's grocery store. There she met Alvin "Slim" Ketterling and they were married July 12, 1942. They lived in Forsyth, Mont., Bismarck, Gackle, Mandan, and in 1950, they settled in Bismarck. She worked for Super Valu Stores for 15 years. She loved children and baby-sat children at her home with many calling her "Grandma." Slim died in 1987, and she moved to the care center in 1993. She loved to cook, camp, play cards and do crafts.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen K. Engel, Phoenix, and Jolene J. Ketterling, Bismarck; two sisters, Freida Rivinius, Gackle, and Ida Goodwin, Minneapolis; one grandson, Brent A. Engel, Los Angeles; two great-grandsons, Timothy and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Gene R. Engel; three brothers, Conrad, Rueben and Lenhardt; and four sisters, Rose, Katie, Tilli, and Bertha. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Melvin J. KETTERLING Mel passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on October 15, 2007, in Kirkland, WA, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and Frontotemporal disease.

He was born September 7, 1936, in Fredonia, ND, to John and Rose (Miller) Ketterling. He graduated from Kulm High School in 1954. Mel served in the Air Force from 1955 - 1959 in San Antonio, TX. After his discharge he made his way to Seattle, WA, to attend the University of Washington where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1962. Employed by Aetna Insurance, he was assigned first to Seattle, then to Portland, OR, where he met his first wife, Suzanne Kay (Long), whom he married in 1968. To continue his studies, Mel and Sue returned to Seattle where he obtained a Masters of Business at the University of Washington in 1972. Sears Roebuck hired him in Seattle and later moved him to Pasco, WA, in 1975. When Suzanne passed away in April of 1976, he returned to Seattle with son, Jeffrey and joined Continental Van Lines as Controller where he remained until his retirement in 1996. He married Nancy (nee Mundy) in 1982. On October 23, 2007 they would have celebrated their 25th anniversary.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Suzanne, and brother, Elmer of Yakima, WA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Jeffrey (Sandra Bourgasser) of Manhattan, NY; step-son, Christopher Barnes (Barbara Chin) of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, Walter (Rose Sohnel) of Sun City West, AZ; Lorence (Elsie Nitschke) of Renton, WA; and sister, Mabel (Len Heller) of Fountain Valley, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, and family members. Mel was a private, wonderful, kind, witty man. He endured his illness with the dignity, grace, and fortitude. His interests included bird-watching, reading, walking, classical music, and sports (particularly baseball). A family memorial will be held at a later date. Mel was well loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, son, family, and friends.

Linton, N.D. -- Raymond H. Ketterling, 69, of Linton died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at MedCenter One in Bismarck, N.D.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Peace Lutheran Church in Linton. The Rev. Fred Henkelmann will officiate.
Burial will be in the Linton Cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Raymond H. Ketterling was born Sept. 19, 1931, to Gottlieb 'G.G.' and Pauline (Sayler) Ketterling in Zeeland, N.D. He was raised and educated in the Zeeland area. He attended rural school. He served in the U.S. National Guard from 1951 to 1952.

He married Vivian Bader on Sept. 10, 1954, in Wishek, N.D. Following their marriage they lived and farmed nine and one-half miles northeast of Zeeland until 1989. They then moved to Linton. He worked for area farmers, Linton Livestock and at J.T. Ranch. He also helped out area auctioneers. He was a member of the Strasburg District School Board, the National Farmers Organization and the Zion Lutheran Church Council. He was also chairman of Aid Association for Lutherans. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, and working with a skid steer loader.

Survivors include his wife of Linton; three sons, Bruce (Cindy) Ketterling and Byron (Denise) Ketterling, both of Wishek and David (Traci) Ketterling of Fargo, N.D.; one daughter, Brenda Beckman of Jamestown, N.D.; two brothers, Roland Ketterling of Bismarck, N.D., and Clifton Ketterling of Holdrege, Neb.; one sister, Thelma George of Loveland, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Tribute: Wanda Irene Ketterling was born in Fredonia, N.D., to Jacob Rath and Justina Weispfenning and attended schools in North Dakota. She attended college in Jamestown and Dickinson, N.D., and Ellensburg, Wash.

On July 3, 1940, she married Pastor Eugene Ketterling in Lodi, Calif. She was an elementary school teacher and also taught music at schools in Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Sandy, Ore.; and Plevna, Mont. As pastor's wife, she was very involved in music in churches in Kulm, N.D.; Paul, Idaho; Plevna; Windsor and Arvada; and San Juan, Texas.

Mrs. Ketterling loved music, piano and organ. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, ceramics gardening and time with family. A member of Airstream Club, she traveled all over the United States, Mexico and Canada for more than 50 years. For the last five years she lived at Covenant Village, Westminster.

Mrs. Ketterling died May 18 in Westminster.

Survivors: Husband, Eugene Ketterling of Westminster; a son, Errol Ketterling of Brighton; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services, 10 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Community Bible Church, Arvada.

Mr. Keyes was born April 26, 1935, in Jamestown, the son of Thomas and Iona (Oliver) Keyes. He grew up and attended Jamestown High School and graduated in 1953. He joined the National Guard in 1953, where he helped in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He served with the 141st Engineer Combat Battalion for 40 years. He married Joan Duven on June 27, 1957, in Marion, N.D. They lived in Jamestown. He retired in 1994 and they operated the Lakeside Marina and campground for five years. He served on the local rural fire department as first captain for 18 years, City Council for 16 years, Military Affairs Committee, where he was the chairman of the Property and Sanitation Committee and the Licenses and Zoning Committee and served on the City/County Law Enforcement Center Building Committee. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elks, Eagles, Dakota Anglers, AMVETS and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, gardening and his lake home.

He is survived by his wife; two sons Tim (Kimberly), Alfred, N.D., and Mike, Ypsilanti, N.D.; a daughter, Tracey (Jim) Wentland, Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Joan Keyes, 71, Jamestown, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Joan C. Duven was born July 23, 1938, in Jamestown, the daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Holand) Duven. She was baptized on Oct. 9, 1938, at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Marion, N.D. She attended and graduated from Marion High School, Marion, in 1956. She married Dick Keyes on June 27, 1957. They lived in Jamestown. She worked for Sears & Roebuck, North Dakota State Hospital and Otter Tail Power Co., until she retired. They managed the Lakeside Marina & Campground, Jamestown, for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed camping, reading and quilting.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy (Kimberly), Alfred, N.D., and Michael, Ypsilanti, N.D.; a daughter, Tracey (James) Wentland, Jamestown; a brother, Bernie (Vicki), Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Christ Kienzle, 67, longtime resident of the Streeter community, died early Saturday morning, October 10, 1964 at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota, where she had been a patient for one week.

Christina Job was born September 13, 1897 in Neudorf, South Russia the daughter of John Job and Carolina Bentz Job. In the year 1899 at the age of two years she came with her parents to the United States when they settled in the Streeter community. They farmed northwest of Streeter in Kidder county, later moving to a farm southwest of Streeter in Logan county. She attended the local school and grew to womanhood in the community. On April 9, 1916 she and Christoph Kienzle were married in the rural church south of Streeter. They farmed fifteen miles southwest of Streeter in Logan county until 1951 when they moved into Streeter for their retirement.

She was a member of the Women's Guild of the Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter.

Mr. Kietzke was born Aug. 6, 1918 to Paul and Wanda Kietzke at Streeter. He graduated from Streeter High School and moved to California.

Albert Kinzler, 62, lifelong resident of the Gackle, North Dakota community died Saturday afternoon, November 23, 1968 at the Gackle Hospital in Gackle, North Dakota where he had been hospitalized for about two weeks.

He was born May 20, 1908 at the family farm home sixteen miles southwest of Gackle in Logan County, the son of John (Joachim) Kinzler and Louisa Burkle Kinzler. He attended the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he worked on his parent's farm. He attended the State Automotive and Electrical School in Aberdeen, S.D., where he completed his education in 1928.

On April 4, 1929, he and Ida Suko were married at Fredonia, North Dakota. They began farming seven miles north of Fredonia and in 1936 moved to a farm seventeen miles southwest of Gackle. In the year of 1947 they moved to a farm three and a half miles northeast of Gackle in Stutsman County, where they lived until 1965 when they moved into Gackle. He has been employed at the Remboldt Implement & Garage to the time of his being hospitalized.

Surviving are his wife, eleven children, Staff Sgt. Elroy Kinzler, in the army stationed at Baumholder, Germany; Melvin of Sunnyvale, Calif.; Lee Vern of Medina, N.D.; Aron of Streeter, N.D.; Marvin of Berlin, N.D.; Roger of Gackle, N.D.; Dona (Mrs. Gerald Neff) of Detroit, Mich.; Philis Kinzler of Chicago, Ill.' Karen attending UND at Grand Forks, N.D.; Ronnie, at home; thirty grandchildren; his stepmother Lydia Kinzler of Gackle, N.D.; seven brothers and sisters, Herbert Kinzler; Alma (Mrs. Albert Moos), both of Gackle, N.D.; William Kinzler of Great Falls, Mont.; Hulda (Mrs. Ray Kline) of Ritzville, Wash.; Reuben Kinzler of Clinton, Iowa; Raymond Kinzler of Grand Forks, N.D.; Violet (Mrs. Franklin Schardin) of Jamestown, N.D.; a foster brother, Norman Kleingartner of Gackle, N.D., whom the Kinzler family reared from infancy.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1913, his father in 1954, one sister and two grandchildren.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., November 27, 1968 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Gackle with Rev. David Blaskowsky, pastor of the Church of God in Gackle officiating. Burial was held in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, North Dakota, with Haut Funeral Home in Gackle in charge of arrangements.

Alice Kinzler, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek.

Alice Domke was born March 31, 1912, on a farm near Gackle, the daughter of Fred and Hilma (Koehler) Domke. She attended the local rural school, attending high school and later one year of college. She taught school for three years. She married Herbert Kinzler Oct. 29, 1932, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived and farmed three miles southeast of Gackle. In 1975 they retired and moved into Gackle. He died in 1996. She lived in the Gackle Care Center and Rock of Ages before moving into the Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek, in 2001. She was a member of United Church of Christ, Gackle, Gackle Progress Homemaker, Congregational Ladies Aid for many years and Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie (Delen) Zimmerman, Mobile, Ala., two brothers, Ernest (Viola), Jamestown, and Herbert (Martha), Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, two sisters and a brother.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, United Church of Christ, Gackle, with the Rev. Gordon Moen officiating.

Harris Kinzler, 66, Fredonia, N.D., died Monday, June 23, 2008, at his farm near Fredonia.

Mr. Kinzler was born Oct. 29, 1941, on the family farm 10 miles northwest of Fredonia, the son of Walter and Alma (Burkle) Kinzler. He attended the local rural school and also attended high school in Kulm, N.D., and Gackle, N.D., graduating in 1960. In 1972, he received his Bachelor of Arts in ministerial studies from Midwest Bible College, Stanberry, Mo. He married Shirley Schlenker on March 12, 1961, at Alfred, N.D. They lived on the family farm until 1968 when they moved to Missouri. Later they moved to Conroe, Texas, where he was senior pastor at the Church of God (Seventh Day). In June 1977, they moved back to the family farm. He attended and served in the ministry at the Church of God (Seventh Day) in Alfred. He enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Gina Kinzler, Fargo, N.D., Renee (David) Listul and Michelle (Ray) Hammer, both of Jamestown; his mother; a brother, Ardell (Diane), Chewelah, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Church of God (Seventh Day), Alfred, with the Rev. Stephen J. Kyner officiating.

Mr. Kinzler was born July 22, 1908, near Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. On Oct. 29, 1932, he married Alice Domke in Napoleon, N.D. They farmed near Gackle until retiring in 1975. They then moved into Gackle. He entered Gackle Care Center in 1990, and entered Central Dakota Village in 1992.

Lorretta Violet Kinzler was born June 13, 1915 in LaMoure County, N.D. Her parents are Theodore Fregien and Christina (Woezner) Fregien. She married Conrad Kinzler on June 4, 1941 at McIntosh County. The couple farmed ten miles south of Kulm until they moved to their present farm 2 miles west of Kulm in 1956.

In 1952 Lorretta Kinzler gave her heart to the Lord. Two years later she was baptized in water. Her desires in life, were only to live and serve the Lord. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years; at the present time she was chaplain of the ladies auxiliary of the Gideons. Just recently Lorretta made the statement, "It won't be long anymore, and we'll be going home to be with the Lord." If only more souls were saved. John 3:3.

Surviving is her husband, Conrad, two sons; Ronald D. and Roger W., both of Kulm, N.D.; a sister, Mrs. Lee (Ella) Wendland of Alexandria, Mn.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 16, 1970 at 1:30 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church, Kulm with clergyman, Rev. LeRoy Johnson. Burial was in the Assembly of God Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arvid Erickson, Elmo Malm, Clifton Bjur, Otto Elhard, Vincent Anderson and Stanley Johnson. Nickisch Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Kinzler, 94, Kulm, N.D., died Friday, June 4, 1999, in Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale, N.D.

Lydia Rath was born Aug. 20, 1904, near Kulm, where she grew up and attended school. She then lived on her family's farm near Kulm for several years while doing domestic work for area families. On July 18, 1923, she married Martin Kinzler in Kulm. They lived and farmed on his family's farm near Kulm, and in 1947 they purchased a different farm near Kulm. He died in 1975. She lived on the farm until 1991, when she entered the nursing home. Martha Kinzler, 91, Ellendale, N.D., died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.

Martha Marie Miller was born April 7, 1913, in Kulm, N.D., the daughter of John and Christina (Esslinger) Miller. She attended rural elementary school and received her high school education at Normal Industrial School, Ellendale. She attended one year of college, earning her teaching certificate. She taught rural school for five years. She married Andrew Kinzler on Oct. 5, 1940, in Merricourt, N.D. They farmed south of Kulm and moved into Kulm in 1978. He died Nov. 4, 1989. She entered Prince of Peace Care Center in 2001. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Kulm.

She is survived by a son, Kennard (Kathleen), Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; a daughter, Linda (Curtis) Fogel, Kulm; a brother, Herbert, Ellendale; three sisters, Esther Schott, Ellendale, Lydia Brosz, Kulm, and Ruth (Lyle) Herman, Fargo, N.D.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Henry; and two sisters, Elsie Nathan and Bertha Brandenberger.

Nora Kinzler, 81, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Wishek (N.D.) Home for the Aged after a long battle with cancer.

Nora Welk was born Jan. 27, 1928, at Kulm, the daughter of Christ and Amelia (Ruff) Welk. She grew up near Kulm where she attended country school. She worked on area farms before working at a café in Kulm. She married Eugene Kinzler on March 31, 1951, at Kulm. They lived in several North Dakota towns before moving back to Kulm in 1992. She worked at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, and Good Samaritan Home, Osnabrock, N.D., as a nurse’s aide.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Linda (Kim) Norheim, New Lebanon, Ohio; two sons, Steven (Joleen) and Keith (Mary), both Kulm; two brothers, Art, Miller, S.D., and Kenneth (Marilyn), Mandan, N.D.; three sisters, Aneta Geisler, Bismarck, N.D., Leona (Art) Bollinger, Edgeley, N.D., and Frieda Keller, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm.

Mr. Kinzler was born Jan. 3., 1938 on a farm north of Fredonia in Logan County, the son of Albert and Ida (Suko) Kinzler. He attended country school until his family purchased a farm northeast of Gackle. He then attended school in Gackle, graduating from Gackle High School in 1955.

Wallace William Kinzler, 65, rural Jamestown, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital from a heart attack.

Mr. Kinzler was born Jan. 3, 1938, on a farm north of Fredonia, N.D., in Logan County, the son of Albert and Ida (Suko) Kinzler. He attended country school until his family purchased a farm northeast of Gackle, N.D. He then attended school in Gackle, graduating from Gackle High School in 1955. He played baseball and football with his brothers and friends. He worked briefly at Gackle Bowling Alley before starting as a mechanic at Harveston’s Garage and later at Mallard Chevy. He married Sharon Pfaff on Sept. 17, 1961, at Jud Congregational Church, Jud, N.D. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 3, 1961, and served until December 1963, followed by a two-year enlistment in the Army Reserve. He worked at Ford Motor Co. while living in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Jamestown in September 1967. He worked at Montgomery Wards for 18 years and Eckman’s Auto Service for two years before retiring in June 1987 due to health problems. He was active in the Jamestown United Church of Christ and served on many committees. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting coins.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Threna (Jerry) Hudson, Fargo, N.D.; a son, Garrel (special friend Denise Lien), Grand Forks, N.D.; four brothers, Mel (Hilma), Roseville, Calif., Marvin (Helen), Willmar, Minn., Rodger (Myrna), Brownwood, Texas, and Ron (Janet), Spiritwood, N.D.; three sisters, Dona (Bill) Crist, Cheboygan, Mich., Phyllis (Jack) Hardeman, Atlanta, Ga., and Karen (Murray) Gumke, Jamestown; and his father- and mother-in-law, Melvin and Anna Pfaff, Jud.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Aron, Lee and Elroy.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.
Prayer service: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Mr. Kinzler was born June 8, 1912 in Logan County, N.D. His parents were Christoph Kinzler and Mary (Buerkley) Kinzler. He married Alma Burkle at Fredonia, N.D., on November 28, 1939.

Mr. Kinzler was active in farming in the Kulm and Fredonia areas most of his life. The family has been living 11 miles northwest of Fredonia since 1964. He was active in community affairs and was presently on the Logan County Welfare Board.

Surviving are his wife, 2 sons Harris of Fredonia, N.D., Ardell attending Utah. There are four sisters, Mrs. Mike (Esther) McKenny, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Fred (Alice) Schwietzer, Eldridge, N.D.; Mrs. Harold (Mae) Wendland, Union City, Calif.; Mrs. Joy (Martha) Dahl of San Bernardino, Calif.; two brothers, Andrew and Conrad, both of Kulm, N.D.

Funeral services are on Thursday (today) at 2:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Congregational Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jacob Schopp, Emil Engelbretsen, Theodore Buerkle, Ernst Schlecht, Abner Haro and Dave Schlenker.

William Kinzler, 87, Great Falls, Mont., died Thursday, July 1, 1999, near Steele, N.D.

Mr. Kinzler was born April 4, 1912, near Gackle, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Oct. 30, 1934, he married Martha Ann Dorr in Napoleon, N.D. They lived and farmed near Gackle. She died in 1957. He continued to live on his farm until 1960, when he moved into Gackle. In 1964 he moved to Great Falls, where he worked as a custodian for Columbus Hospital. In May 1967, he married Margaret O'Brien in Great Falls, where they lived. In 1975 he began working as a custodian for St. Gerard School, Great Falls, retiring in 1977. She died in 1987. ...

Phebe E. Kirmis, 83, Edgewood Vista, Bismarck, formerly of Jud, ND, died December 18, 2001 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at the Presbyterian Church, Edgeley, with the Rev. Tony Serbousek officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Jud.

Visitation will be from 4 – 9 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Phebe was born in Oakes, North Dakota on May 16, 1918, the daughter of Lyle and Margaret (Gray) Andrews. She was raised and attended schools in Oakes. She then attended Jamestown College prior to teaching in rural schools for several years. She married Walter Kirmis on April 13, 1941.

They lived on the family farm near Jud and in 1961 she was appointed the postmistress of Jud and worked there until her retirement in the early 1990’s. Her husband, Walter, died in 1988. She moved into Jud in 1999.

She and Walter took a lifelong pride in supporting the Jud community. They were involved in the Democratic Party and in the farm co-op movement. She traveled extensively at home and abroad prior to her death. She also enjoyed pets throughout her life and would look after the strays that showed up at the farm. Phebe was a strong-willed woman who was civic minded and faithful to her church. She enjoyed playing piano and appreciated music throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Lyle and Sharon Kirmis of Bismarck; her daughter, Elizabeth Kirmis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Amy Kaip and Michael Kaip of Fargo, Angi and Jamie Wujcik of Littleton, CO, and Jennifer Kirmis of Minneapolis, MN; and four great-grandchildren, Madisyn, Chloe, Chieze, and Grace.

Rosella Kirschenmann, 81, Grand Forks, N.D., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Woodside Village, Grand Forks.

Rosella Spitzer was born April 1, 1921, west of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Philip and Lydia (Graf) Spitzer. She grew up in the Streeter area, where she received her elementary education in the local rural school and helped on the family farm. She married Gideon Kirschenmann on June 15, 1941, at her parents farm west of Streeter. They lived on his parents farm 8-1/2 miles southwest of Streeter in Kidder County. In 1964 they moved into Streeter, where she worked at the Streeter Grocery Store and later for the State Bank of Streeter. He died on Nov. 8, 1971. She retired in 1983. In 1995 she moved to Grand Forks. She was a member of the Hope United Church of Christ, where she was involved in the church music program for 60 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Delphine (John D.) LaMoine, Grand Forks; a son, Dennis, Fargo, N.D.; four brothers, Calvin (Doris), Billings, Mont., Herbert, Streeter, and Richard (Marlina) and Delano (Diana), both Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Erma (Wilmer) Gienger, Jamestown; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Hope United Church of Christ, Streeter, with the Rev. Delano Spitzer officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m Sunday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Stanley L. Kitzman died peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND, at the age of 85.

Stanley Kitzman was born June 14, 1923 in rural Upham, ND, to Alfred and Anna (Wahl) Kitzman. Stanley was raised in the Upham area where he attended rural school and was confirmed in Lutheran church there. He married his sweetheart Genevieve Herschlip on September 4, 1944 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Stanley and Genevieve made their home on their farm until retiring to Fargo in 1998. Along with farming, Stanley was involved in his community by serving on the boards of the Upham School, Russell Elevator, Pratt Township, and Bethlehem Church.

Stanleys greatest joy in his life came from his family. Stanley and Genevieve raised three wonderful daughters who each hold a special place in their hearts. He raised them to help on the family farm and was overjoyed at the wonderful women they grew to be. Spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren was one of his favorite pastimes. He and Genevieve would make every effort to attend every birthday party, sporting event and school activity to see them shine. Stanley loved farming his land, fishing, visiting with friends/family, and playing cards. His wonderful smile and contagious laughter could light up any room and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Mrs. Klein, who was born in Gackle, N.D., died Sunday [Feb 14, 1999]. She married Ray Klein in 1928 and they moved in 1942 to Ritzville, where she worked in various restaurants, at the local bakery, for the Davis Hotel and later for Western Auto Store for more than 20 years. She retired in 1975. She was a member of Philadelphia Congregational Church, Gritman Senior Center, Ritzville Hospital Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and the Ritzville Grandmother's Club. Her husband died in 1991.

Mrs. Klein is survived by a son, Roy Klein, and two daughters, Velda Miller and Joyce Preston, all of Ritzville; two sisters, Alma Moos and Violet Schardine, both of Gackle; four brothers, William Kinzler of Great Falls, Mont., Reuben Kinzler of Clinton, Iowa, Ray Kinzler of Grand Forks, N.D., and Norman Kleingartner of Gackle; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adams County Health Foundation or to the church.

Jacob Klein, 81, 514 Twelfth St., died at 8 a.m. Friday in a local hospital. He was admitted into the hospital on Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30p.m. Monday from the Boelter Chapel for Mr. Klein. Burial well be made at Ellendale.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Klein, he was born in Russia on May 22, 1874. He came to the U.S. in 1914 with his wife, the former Elizabeth Weidmer, whom he married in Russia in 1895. She preceded him in death in 1939 and he was married to Margaret Schlichenmayer at Bismarck in 1941. He reside at Ellendale for many years before moving to Bismarck. He was a member of the Bismarck Baptist Church.

Mr. Klein leaves his wife, five sons, Daniel, Carl, Philip, and Jacob of Ellendale, and Adam of Lodi, Calif., five daughter, Mrs. Adolph Schmidt, Mrs. Edward Kast, Mrs. William Sukut, Mrs. William R. Mack and Mrs Erroll Lilhboe of Ellendale, and 12 grandchildren. Four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

The Boelter Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

The funeral for Lorraine E. Klein, 75, Ellendale, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Pat McBride will officiate.

Burial will be in the Ellendale City Cemetery with Holte Funeral Home in Ellendale in charge of arrangements.

She died Monday, April 24, 1995, at St. Luke's Midland Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen.

Lorraine E. Grenz was born Sept. 2, 1919, to Frederick and Maria (Dobler) Grenz in Kulm. She attended elementary school in Logan County, N.D., and then moved to live with her sister in Artas, S.D., where she completed high school. She received her certification as a licensed practical nurse from the Britton Hospital. She moved back to Kulm, and then to Ellendale with her family.

She married Phillip Klein on Sept. 2, 1940, in Ellendale. He died May 16, 1980. She retired from Ellendale Memorial Hospital after 24 years of service. She moved to the Ellendale Nursing Center on April 17, 1995.

Survivors include one son, Gerald Klein of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Casketbearers will be Louis Ketterling, Jerry Krause, Calvin Deide, Herman Trautmann, Arthur Schock and the Rev. Duane Grenz.

The organist will be Gladys Schock, and the soloist will be the Rev. Duane Grenz.

David Mark Kleingartner, 40, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Jamestown.

Mr. Kleingartner was born May 28, 1964, in Fargo, the son of Norbert and LuElla (Morlock) Kleingartner. He graduated from Fargo South High School in 1982 and from Moorhead (Minn.) Technical School in 1984. He was employed at Mid America Steel for 20 years. He enjoyed racing and was part of an auto racing pit crew since high school.

He is survived by a stepson, Spencer Kleingartner, Millville, Minn.; his parents, Fargo; a sister, Lisa Kleingartner, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a grandmother, Martha Kleingartner, Gackle, N.D.

Ella Kleingartner, 90, Fredonia, N.D., died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Ella Lorina Hiller was born April 6, 1912, near Fredonia, the daughter of Fred D. and Bertha (Grosz) Hiller. She attended a rural school north of Fredonia, and the public school in Fredonia to complete her education. She was baptized and confirmed in the Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia. She married Christ Kleingartner on June 19, 1932, in Fredonia. They spent a number of years farming and resided on farms north and south of Fredonia. In 1945 they moved into Fredonia and continued to farm until 1954. From 1950 to 1951 they lived in Kulm, where they also operated the Kulm Cafe. She was also an assistant postal clerk at the Fredonia Post Office and spent many years working with a cleaning and painting group. She was a janitor for the Nazareth Congregational Church for many years. He died on Sept. 28, 1973. She continued to live in Fredonia, until February 2001, when she moved to Jamestown. She was a lifelong member of the Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, where she was involved in the Women’s Guiding Light Society and served as church treasurer for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, baking and singing.

She is survived by two daughters, Adella (Harold) Kjos, Jamestown, and Judith (Mel) Schmitz, Park Rapids, Minn.; two brothers, Wilbert (Doris), Gainsville, Ga., and Fred P., Fredonia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother, Lydia Hiller; a brother, Joseph; three sisters, Nora Mueller, Elda Tvete and Norma Buchholz; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Halldorson and Dorothy Hiller; and three brothers-in-law, Albert Mueller, Edward Tvete and Wesley Buchholz.

Laverna Kleingartner, 73, Gackle, ND died Tuesday morning December 18, 2007 at her home in Gackle, ND.

Laverna Widmer was born February 17, 1934 at the farm west of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of George and Lydia (Elhard) Widmer. She attended the local school and graduated from Kulm High School in 1952. She taught school for 1 year and then worked at the Kulm State Bank.

She and Gordon Kleingartner were married November 14, 1954 at Gackle, ND. They made their home 7 miles south of Gackle were they farmed for 1954 until 1995. They moved into Gackle and Laverna started working at the Gackle Care Center in 1997.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, the Legion Auxiliary, the Library Board, Progress Homemakers, Gackle Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Gordon, Gackle, ND, 2 daughters and 1 son, Elaine (Glenn) Ackerman, Fargo, ND, Kathy Kleingartner, Lexington, KY, Steven (Heidi) Kleingartner, Gackle, ND, 2 grandchildren, Paige and Megan, 2 sisters, Winona Oberlander, Kulm, ND, her twin, Lenora (Kermit) Herman, Minneapolis, MN.

Martha Kleingartner, 95, Gackle, N.D., died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Martha Miller was born Sept. 13, 1909, 15 miles southwest of Gackle, the daughter of Peter and Magdalena (Veil) Miller. She was raised and received her education at the local rural elementary school while helping on the farm. She married Balzer Kleingartner on June 9, 1936, in Gackle. They made their home on a farm 11 miles southwest of Gackle. Following the death of her husband on April 7, 1956, she continued to reside on the farm until the fall when she moved into Gackle. In May 2001, she moved to Gackle Care Center. On Dec. 31, 2004, she moved to Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. She was a member of First Congregational UCC Church and UCC Guiding Light, Gackle, and a life member of Gackle Senior Citizens and American Legion Auxiliary. She was recognized with articles in the local paper and The Forum of Fargo for providing the “Gackle’s Taxi Service.” She enjoyed quilting, bowling, attending high school basketball games and traveling.

She is survived by two sons, Melvin (Sharon), Princeton, Minn., and Edwin (Sharon), Bozeman, Mont.; two daughters, Helen Kleingartner, Blaine, Minn., and Lillian (Dayton) Ward, New Brighton, Minn.; six stepsons, Irvin (Edna), Jamestown, Rupert (Lorraine), Gordon (Laverna), Albin (Joyce) and Norman (Karen), all of Gackle, and Norbert (LuElla), Fargo, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Emma Miller; 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Rupert Kleingartner, 85, Gackle, N.D., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Kleingartner was born on Sept. 22, 1923, at Gackle, the son of Balzar and Olga (Schlenker) Kleingartner. He attended the local school and grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan 24, 1945, at Ft. Snelling, Minn. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Japan. He was discharged Dec. 5, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Wash, with the rank of corporal. He married Lorraine Mueller on May 1, 1947, at Congregational Church, Kulm, N.D. They lived on a farm nine miles south of Gackle where they farmed. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, and American Legion Mayer-Morlock Post 250. He was active in Logan County Soil Conservation and Logan County Weed Board. He enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary (Virginia), Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Alan (Peggy), Gackle; seven brothers, Irvin (Edna), Jamestown, Gordon, Albin (Joyce), and Norman (Karen), all Gackle, Norbert (LuElla), Fargo, N.D., Melvin (Sharon), Princeton, Minn., and Edwin (Sharon), Bozeman, Mont.; two sisters, Helen Kleingartner, Blaine, Minn., and Lillian (Dayton) Ward, New Brighton, Minn.; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Martha Kleingartner; and a sister-in-law, Laverna.

Walter Kleingartner, 82, Jamestown, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Central Dakota Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Mr. Kleingartner was born April 15, 1924, on the family farm northwest of Fredonia, N.D., the son of Edward and Pauline (Dittus) Kleingartner. He grew up in the area and attended the local rural school through the 10th grade. He helped on the family farm. He married Evangeline Schweigert on Nov. 23, 1954, in Fredonia. They lived and farmed northwest of Fredonia. In 1994, they moved to Fredonia. In August 2006, they moved to Jamestown. He was a member of the Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, where he was an usher for many years. He was a member of the Fredonia Senior Citizens. He enjoyed bike riding, woodworking and reading.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Douglas (Sue), Fargo, N.D., Russell (Kim), Jamestown, and Michael (Jenny), Milnor, N.D.; three daughters, Carol (Dave) Stringer, Fort Collins, Colo., Patty (Monte) Williams, New Rockford, N.D., and Karen (Bryan) Batsch, Gackle, N.D.; four sisters, Gertie Mueller, Fargo, Marion Rossman, Fredonia, Katie Haag, Kulm, N.D., and Evangeline Spravzoff, Aurora, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers, William and Theophil "David."

William “Bill” Kleingartner, 91, Kulm, N.D., died Monday, June 20, 2005, at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, N.D.

Mr. Kleingartner was born April 2, 1914, on the family farm south of Gackle, N.D., the son of Edward and Pauline (Dittus) Kleingartner. He grew up and attended school, then he began farming with his father. He soon rented a nearby farm. He married Elsie Riebhagen of Fredonia, N.D., on Sept. 3, 1937, at Napoleon, N.D. They farmed northwest of Fredonia. They later purchased a farm eight miles northeast of Kulm where they lived and farmed until moving into Kulm in 1976. They retired a few years later. She died in December 1996. He moved to Royal Oaks Assisted Living Center, Oakes, a year and a half ago. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm. He served on the Pamona View School Board, Kulm Credit Union and the Kulm Grain Elevator. He enjoyed being a part of the Kulm Friendship Club.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Louise (Donovan) Fey, Kulm, Kathleen (Kennard) Kinzler, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Randa (Larry) Gemar, Oakes; a son, Larry (Nancy), Bismarck, N.D.; four sisters, Gertrude Mueller, Fargo, N.D., Katie Haag, Kulm, Marion Rossman, Fredonia, and Evangeline Spravzoff, Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Walter, Fredonia; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lydia Kleinknecht, 93, Bismarck, N.D., died Friday May 8, 2009 at Baptist Home, Bismarck.

Lydia Hust was born Jan. 7, 1916, at the family farm home near Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Katherina (Enzminger) Hust. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity. She married Emanuel Kleinknecht on Sept. 29, 1939, at Gackle, N.D. They lived on his parents’ farm 2 miles south of Gackle until 1942 when they moved to their own farm 15 miles northwest of Gackle. In 1961, they sold the farm and moved into Jamestown. He died Aug. 8, 1983. She moved to Bismarck in 1994. In 2001 she entered Baptist Home, Bismarck. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

She is survived by two daughters, Evangeline (Everrett) Aljoe, Maple Valley, Wash., and Virginia (Steven) McCallum, Bismarck; a son, Virgil (Joann), Bismarck; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Elroy; her parents; a great-granddaughter; six brothers; and six sisters.

Raymond Klettke, son of Henry and Emma (Hiller) Klettke was born March 24, 1921 at rural Kulm, ND. He was baptized October 30, 1921 at Gnadenfeld Congregational Church. He grew up and attended rural school in the area and was confirmed at the First Congregational Church at Merricourt, ND July 3, 1938. Ray farmed south of Kulm. Ray was a talented welder and inventor. He was always willing to repair farmer’s equipment and /or build new equipment to suit the needs of the customer. Ray entered numerous inventions at the North Dakota Inventors Congress. His quiet mannerisms endeared him to all who knew him. Ray entered Manor St. Joseph July 2004. As his Alzheimer’s progressed he was transferred to the Prince of Peace Care Center at Ellendale, ND in May of 2005.

Ray died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Prince of Peace Care Center of Ellendale, ND. He was 89 years old.

Ray is survived by a sister-in-law, Marie Klettke, Kulm, ND; two nephews, Marvin Klettke, Kulm, ND; Thomas Klettke, Jamestown, ND; one great niece, Amanda and one great nephew, Bobby Klettke; several cousins and a host of friends. Bernice Kline, 83, Billings, Mont., died March 14, 2007, at her home, after a battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes.

Bernice Otto was born March 21, 1923, in Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Reinhold and Pauline Otto. She married Kenneth Kline on Sept. 7, 1949, in Gackle. She enjoyed cooking, doing yard work, planting flowers, cleaning house, going out for meals at the Alpine Casino, and watching sports on television.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Mike) of Basin, Wyo., and Karen (Bruce), Billings; two sons, David (Nancy), Puyallup, Wash., and Russell, Billings; a stepson, Tommy (Annette), Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Rhinie, Medina, N.D.; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, William; her parents; three brothers, Norbert, Gust and Willie; and a sister, Frieda.

Toledo, WA - Robert "Bob" Kliner, 73, died Sunday, January 18, 1998 in Longview, WA following a long illness.

A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 23 at the Lone Yew Grange in Toledo WA with Pastor Suzanne Appello of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Winlock, WA officiating.

Robert Joseph Kliner was born April 22, 1924 in Viking, the son of Emil and Elizabeth (Shuldt) Kliner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 until 1946.

On July 3, 1947 he was united in marriage at Thief River Falls to Doris Jean Skadsem of Newfolden. The couple moved to Longview, WA in 1953 and then to Toledo, WA in 1959. Bob worked as a mechanic for Weyerhaeuser Co. in the woods division for 25 years.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, gardening, family activities and working on the family park.

He was a member of the Winlock American Legion and International Woodworkers of America.

Bob is survived by his wife, Doris; one son, Rodney (Fran) Kliner of Placentia, CA; two daughters, RoxAnne (Randy) Carroll of Newman Lake, WA and Debra Kliner of Centralia, WA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Kliner of Stockton, CA; and two sisters, Ruth Thrane of Nevada and Marlyce Nenow of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ervin.

Keith James Klose, 56, Jamestown, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Klose was born May 19, 1951, in Jamestown, the son of Clemens and Marian (Reimers) Klose. He grew up and attended rural school at Sydney Township No. 1 for several years. He graduated in 1969 in Jamestown. He was a 1971 graduate of the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, from the diesel mechanics program. He married Iva Becker on Sept. 7, 1973, at the United Methodist Church, Streeter, N.D. He farmed and raised livestock on the family farm south of Jamestown. He was a member of the Sydney Township Board for more than 18 years. He enjoyed his livestock.

He is survived by his wife; his mother; a brother, Dean, Jamestown; and two sisters, Barbara (John) Steinberger, Fullerton, Calif., and Renee (Wes) Valenta, Montpelier, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Douglas; a sister, Beverly; and his grandparents.

Edgar Klundt, 86, Jamestown, N.D., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, in Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Mr. Klundt was born Oct. 1, 1911, in Alfred, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Sept. 12, 1937, he married Adina Irion in Alfred, where they farmed. In 1959 they moved to Jamestown, where he also farmed. He worked for North Dakota State Hospital, Western Gear and Don Wilhelm's, all Jamestown. She died in 1986. He entered Hi-Acres Manor in 1995.

Edwin Klundt, 84, Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at MedCenter One, Bismarck.

Mr. Klundt was born Dec. 12, 1916, southeast of Gackle, the son of Edward and Barbara (Moos) Klundt. He grew up in Gackle, where he received his elementary education in a local rural school and helped on the family farm. He married Magdalena "Maggie" Veil May 25, 1947, at United Church of Christ, Gackle. They lived on a farm six miles southeast of Gackle. In 1989 they moved into Gackle. He was a school bus driver and township clerk for the Finn Township. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Gackle; American Legion, serving as past commander; and the 40/8, where he held various positions.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda (Fred) Kovell, Champaign, Ill. and Adella (Marlin) Schick, Bismarck; a brother, Reuben (Leona), Gackle; a sister, Lillian Lehr, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and special friends, Trevlyn and Debbie Wiest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister in infancy.

Edwin Klundt, 79, Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday, July 8, 1999, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Klundt was born Oct. 10, 1919, near Medina, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, then returned to Medina. On Oct. 16, 1958, he married Betty Pfaff-McKeen. In 1960 they purchased his family's farm near Medina, and in 1981 they moved into Medina.

Harry Ernest Klundt, 85, Oakes, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Oakes Good Samaritan Center, Oakes.

Mr. Klundt was born May 4, 1920, in Alfred, N.D. the son of John and Bertha (Hermann) Klundt. He was raised and attended school in Alfred. He attended Valley City (N.D.) State Teacher’s College and taught in a country school in the Alfred and Gackle, N.D., area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii, New Zealand and Guadalcanal. He married Marjane Nichols on Sept. 11, 1949, in Oakes. He co-owned and owned Oakes Insurance Agency for 40 years. He was mayor of Oakes for nine years and was active in the Masons, Elks, American Legion and El Zagal Shrine. He enjoyed hunting and barbequing turkey.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Barbara Weaver, Hopkins, Minn.; a son, James (Suzanne), Bismarck, N.D.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Edward and Edgar; and five sisters, Elsie, Emma Nitschke, Lorraine, Mary and Lena Beglau.

James Edgar Klundt, 24, Jamestown, N.D., formerly a resident of the Alfred, N.D., community died early Thursday evening August 21, 1969 as the result of a tractor accident about two miles west of Alfred in LaMoure County.

He was born August 2, 1945 in Jamestown, N.D., the son of Edgar Klundt and Adina Irion Klundt. He received his elementary education in the Alfred Public School, and was graduated from high school at the School for the Blind at Grand Forks, N.D.

Following the completion of his education, he has been employed working for his father, farming near Alfred.

Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Sharon (Mrs. Vernon Mueller), Jamestown, N.D., Gloria (Mrs. Vance Kro), Fessenden, N.D., his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Klundt, Alfred, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, and his paternal grandfather.

The funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 1969 at the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown with Rev. Gordon J. Voegele, pastor and Rev. R. C. Stading, Gackle, N.D., and Rev. N. E. McCoy, Jamestown, N.D., officiating. Burial was in the Alfred Cemetery at Alfred, N.D.

The pallbearers were Milton Nitschke, Cordell Lehr, Burnett Henne, Bob Krause, Vance Kro, and Vernon Mueller.

Mrs. Rueben Wolff played a program of organ music as friends and relatives assembled and left the church. "Beyond The Sunset" was sung by Rev. and Mrs. N. E. McCoy. "He The Pearly Gates Will Open" was sung by a mixed quartet, Mr. Otto Nitschke, Mrs. Adolph Heinle, Mrs. Gordon Vogele, and Mr. Harry Moser. Mrs. Rueben Wolff played the entire accompaniment.

Members of the Nursing Staff at the North Dakota State Hospital attended in a body.

Out of state people attending were: Mrs. Christina Irion of Terry, Mont.; Mr. Albert Irion and Mr. T. S. Irion of Fallon, Mont.; Miss Delores Henne of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray, Lehr, Mrs. Dale Thomas, and Mrs. Richard Yurik of Minneapolis, Minn.

John Klundt, 82, pioneer resident of the Gackle-Alfred community, died early Sunday morning in Gackle Hospital where he had been a patient for three months. Funeral services will be Wednesday a 2 p.m. in the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle with Rev, Bernard Edinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Alfred cemetery with Haut Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Klundt, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Klundt, was born December 3, 1879, at Rohrbach, South Russia. In 1884 he came to the United States with his parents and they settled at Scotland, South Dakota. Later the same year they moved to a farm homestead 16 miles east of Eureka, South Dakota. When Mr. Klundt was 17 years old, he came with his father to North Dakota and they farmed two miles west of Gackle on the farm later known as the William Zenker farm. In 1901 Mr. Klundt homesteaded a farm two miles northwest of Alfred in LaMoure county. On December 10, 1905, he was married to Bertha Herrmann at the home of her parents, near Alfred. The Klundts farmed until 1912 when they moved into Alfred from where Mr. Klundt continued his farming operations until his retirement. For a short time after they moved into Alfred, Mr. Klundt was engaged in a hardware and implement business which he later sold to his cousin, John J Klundt. He was one of the first township officers and served 33 years. He was a member of the Grace Baptist church in Alfred.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Henry of Princeton, California; Edgar and Edward of Alfred; Harry of Oakes; four daughter, Mary at home; Mrs. Edwin Beglau (Lena) of Alfred; Mrs. Otto Nitschke (Emma) of Jamestown; Miss Lorraine Klundt of Fargo; 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Edward Klundt of Gackle; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Herrmann (Margaret) of Mabton, Washington; Mrs. William Fowler (Sophia) of Scottsville, Michigan and a foster daughter, Mrs. Carl Wetzel (Elsie Holweg) of Jamestown. His parents, one daughter, two brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Kenneth Klundt, 68, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Klundt was born May 16, 1934, at Gackle, the son of John K. and Anna (Mayer) Klundt. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the area, where he helped on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 3, 1956, at Napoleon, N.D. He served in Korea and was discharged Dec. 2, 1958, at Fort Carson, Colo., with the rank of private first class. He married Marlys Meidinger on Nov. 26, 1961, in the United Church of Christ, Gackle. They lived in the Gackle area, where they raised cattle and farmed grain. In 1990 they moved into Gackle and continued to farm until they retired in 1995. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Gackle, where he served on the church board, the American Legion Post #295 and Farmers Union Oil of Alfred. He also served as township assessor and on the ambulance squad.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kent, New Salem, N.D., and Dean (Sarah), Willmar, Minn.; a brother, Clifford (Dolores); a sister, Eugenia, Gackle; and a grandchild.

Lorraine G. Klundt, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo.

Lorraine was born November 9, 1923 the daughter of John and Bertha (Herrmann) Klundt at Alfred, North Dakota. She was an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service for many years. She never married.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. There will be no visitation or funeral service.

It was her wish to donate her body for medical research to the Department of Anatomy, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND.

Eileen Koenig, 79, Woodworth, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, N.D.

Eileen Hust was born Nov. 11, 1925, south of Woodworth, the daughter of George and Rose (Moser) Hust. She grew up in the area. She married Paul Koenig on May 12, 1944, in Woodworth. They lived on a farm northeast of Woodworth. She helped on the farm and worked as a cook and waitress at Jamestown Livestock Sales barn. In 1973 they moved to Woodworth. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, LWML, Eagles, Elks and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gambling and playing cards.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Jerome (Gladys), Woodworth; three daughters, Sandra (James) Morlock, Pettibone, N.D., and Dorothy (Arthur) Mariner and Kathy (Scott) Hochhalter, both Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Elsie Koenig, Woodworth; a brother, Edwin, Jamestown; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lydia Lang and Eda Struxness; four brothers, August, Ted, Adam and Reuben; and a half brother, Harry Krenz.

UNDERWOOD - Martha Koenig, 97, Underwood, died Feb. 8, 2009, at Prairieview Nursing Home, Underwood. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Faith Evangelical Church, Underwood, with the Rev. Jeff Higbie officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Underwood Cemetery.

Visitation will held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood, and will continue Thursday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Martha was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Ashley, to John and Margarite (Wessner) Grueneich. She grew up on a farm north of Washburn and married Reuben Koenig on Nov. 3, 1932. Together, they farmed southeast of Underwood, until retiring in 1968. Martha and Reuben moved from the farm into Underwood in 1966. Reuben, her husband of 45 years, passed away in November 1977. Martha continued to live in Underwood until 2002, when she moved to The Terrace in Bismarck. On Nov. 15, 2008, she became a resident of the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.

While living in the depression era, Martha learned how to provide for her family by growing large gardens. She sewed clothing, made many quilts, cooked German foods and baked everything from scratch. She sewed baby blankets and assisted with White Cross (church missions) until she was 90 years old. Before she lost her eyesight, she took advantage of many senior citizen bus tours and enjoyed reading books. In her later years, Martha valued spending time with family and friends.

Eternally grateful for having shared in Martha's life are her son, Roland (Sharan) Koenig, Underwood; her daughter, Karen Johannes, Underwood; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Roland, Sue Ellen (Randy) Podoll, Sturgis, S.D., and children, Rachael, Jacob and Todd, R. Will (Beverly) Koenig, Blaine, Minn., and children, Jordan and Grace, Joel (Jacki) Koenig, Rapid City, S.D., and children, Nick, Katelyn and Megan, and Aaron (Barby) Koenig, Fargo, and children, Alayna, Sophie and Jack; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Karen, Cindy (Paul) Klingbeil, Minot, and children, Jocelyn Rodgers, Ben and Elizabeth, Ron (Sheila) Johannes, Willmar, Minn., and children, Mitchell, Mikayla and Joshua, Chandra (Jon) Longnecker, Waconia, Minn., and children, Caleb and Jacob, and Sid (Lynae) Johannes, Vergas, Minn., and children, Abe and Shauntel; two sisters, Lorraine Grenz and Vi (Ruben) Schlichenmeyer, all of Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Frances Grueneich, Bismarck; and one brother-in-law, Walter Aman, Oregon.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Johanna Bader, Emma Johnson-Pfaff, Bertha Steinwand and Ella Aman; three brothers, Edward, Bennie and John Grueneich; one son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Johannes; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Barbara Koenig.

Louise Koepplin, 93, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Louise Boschee was born Sept. 18, 1915, at Wishek, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Rudolph) Boschee. She grew up and attended rural school in the Wishek area. She married Reuben Koepplin on Nov. 30, 1939, at Wishek. They farmed northwest of Lehr, N.D. They moved to Jamestown in 1955, where she was employed at Jamestown Hospital. They returned to the farm in 1957. She worked for Grenz SuperValu for 12 years. They moved to Wishek in 1977. She was a member of the Lehr Thimble Bee and the United Methodist Church, Wishek. She enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge.

She is survived by a son, Wayne (Judy), Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Margaret Koepplin, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Bothne, Jamestown; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, David, five brothers and nine sisters.

Kelly Glen Kolpin, 53, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Sutton, N.D., died Friday, Febr. 12, 2010, at Blue Water Bay, Cormorant Lake, Minn., and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Mr. Kolpin was born Feb. 28, 1956, in Jamestown, the son of Glen and Ramona Kolpin. He grew up in Sutton and graduated from Glenville-Sutton High School in 1974. He attended Wahpeton (N.D.) State School of Science and lived in Wahpeton until moving to Fargo. He then founded Midwest Collision Center in 1981, and operated the business with his brother, Rick. He enjoyed amateur basketball, softball, golf and spending time at the lakes.

He is survived by a daughter, Cassie McLean, Dickinson, N.D.; a sister, Janna (Ken) Cumber, Jamestown; two brothers, Roger and Rick, both of Fargo; and a special friend, Mary Morris.

Hulda Konrad, 97, Jamestown, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Hulda Wegner was born Jan. 12, 1912, north of Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Gottfried and Pauline (Schlenker) Wegner. She grew up and received her elementary education at the local rural school. She worked on the family farm. She married Herbert Konrad on April 15, 1934, at Alfred. They lived on a farm northeast of Alfred where they farmed until 1970, when they moved to Jamestown. She worked for many years at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in the kitchen and laundry. She did foster care in her home for many years. He died in 1982. She entered Ave Maria Village in 2003. She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Young, Jamestown; a sister, Anna Krause, Jamestown; and a grandson, Dale Konrad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, seven brothers and four sisters.

Lance Konrad, 41, Jud, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, near Jud, due to an automobile accident.

Mr. Konrad was born March 1, 1965, at Jamestown, the son of Harvey and Mary Lou (Gumke) Konrad. He grew up and attended school in Jud and graduated from Jud High School. He attended the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, for one year. He married Pam Dockter on March 17, 1988, at Jamestown. He worked for Coca-Cola for two years and for Duratech Industries for four years. In 1995, they moved to the family farm southeast of Alfred, N.D. He then worked for NAPA, as a delivery truck driver. They enjoyed putting car shows together. He enjoyed drag racing, burn out contests and collecting old cars.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jeffrey, Jud; three daughters, Lisa Church, Jamestown, Tanya Dockter, Grand Forks, N.D., and Angela (Ben) Janke, Roy, Utah; his parents, Jud; a sister, Dawn (Curt) Doetkott, Fargo, N.D.; and two grandchildren.

Wilbert Konrad, 84, Kulm, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Medcenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Konrad was born May 24, 1920, on a farm east of Kulm, the son of Reinholdt and Kathraina (Herman) Konrad. He attended a rural school through the eighth grade and attended two years at Kulm High School. He joined the Civil Conservation Corps, Wyoming, attaining the rank of sergeant in his later teen years. He returned home and entered the U.S. Army, serving three years in World War II and serving in the European Theater of Northern Africa, Sicily, Northern Italy, France and Germany. He returned to North Dakota. He married Viola Eslinger in 1947. He worked at Gackle Brothers Hardware Store for 13 years. He was a postal clerk in Kulm and later a postmaster in Fredonia, N.D. He retired in 1986 after 29 years of service. He was a catcher and umpire on the Kulm Baseball Team. He worked for the Kulm Civic and Improvement Committee and served on the Congregational Church Board. He helped develop the Kulm Golf Course and served as a judge and election monitor in Kulm.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Dwight, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Carolyn Konrad, Portland; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Konrad, Minneapolis, Minn., and Karen Konrad, Stanton, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, LeMar, Marvin and LeRoy.

Donna Kopfmann died early Sunday morning November 1, 2009 at her home in Streeter, after her battle with cancer.

Donna Jean (Jager) Kopfmann was born August 24, 1954 to Au-gust and Nellie (Lobban) Jager at Huron, South Dakota. She grew up five miles northwest of Alpena, South Dakota and was baptized in the American Lutheran Church in Huron. She was confirmed in the United Church of Christ in Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1972.

Donna was united in marriage to Darwin Kopfmann on September 3, 1972, at the Alpena United Methodist Church. They lived on the Kopfmann family farm near Alpena before moving to Huron in 1973. While in Huron she was a secretary for a realtor, employed by Brown Shoe Fit, and was a teacher’s aide at Huron Colony, McKinley, and Wilson schools from 1973-1976. She served as secretary at Riverview United Methodist Church from 1983-1994 and was the Christian Education Director at First United Methodist Church from 1989-1994.

She was an active Jaycette, a school room parent for nine years , president of the Jefferson PTO, served on the Huron Middle School and Huron High School Advisory Boards for seven years, and was president of the Huron Tiger Roar Sports Club.

Rev. Kopfmann was appointed pastor to the Ashley and Forbes, North Dakota United Methodist Churches in 1994. Donna was vice president of the Ashley Sports Club, member of the Button and Bows Extension club, employed by the Ashley Drug Store, and did secretarial and janitorial work for the churches.

They were appointed to the Clear Lake and Gary, South Dakota United Methodist churches in 2001. She was employed as janitor at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, substituted in the school kitchen and at Kid’s in Motion Day Care, delivered Meals-on-Wheels, and served as a hospice volunteer. They were appointed to the Streeter, Medina, and Tappen, North Dakota United Methodist churches in 2004. She had been serving as parish secretary.

Donna made church a priority, playing in bell choirs, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and working with youth groups. A member of the United Methodist Women since 1976, she served as a local, district and conference officer. She received "The Woman In Mission Award" on numerous occasions. She and Darwin were Mission Secretaries in South Dakota and recent Hunger/Poverty Coordinators in North Dakota through the Board of Global Ministries.

She enjoyed mission trips, vacation travels, reading, collecting angels and spending time with her family. Faith was important to her and she wanted to be Christ’s example in the world. Favorite expressions were "Life is what you make it", and "I plan to make it interesting" and "It’ll be OK!"

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband; daughter Amy (Jerrod) Busch, Huron, South Dakota; son, Daniel (Carri) Kopfmann, Mitchell, South Dakota; the lights of her life, grandchildren Ashley and Ethan Busch and Owen Kopfmann; her mother, Nellie Jager, Huron; aunts and uncles; all her many special cousins; and all her special brothers and sisters-in-law and their families.

Donna was preceded in death by grandparents, James and Ruby Lobban, and Carl and Emily Jager; and her father.

The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday November 4, 2009 in the Streeter Memorial Hall in Streeter, ND with Rev. Bruce Adams, officiating. There will be a second service at 10:30 AM Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Huron, SD with Revs Don Crippen and Steve Foss, officiating.

Edna Kosanke, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Edna Eissinger was born Nov. 30, 1920 at Wishek, the daughter of Carl and Lydia (Lang) Eissinger. She received her elementary education in the local school and grew up in the area where she helped on the family farm. She married Gustave Kosanke on Sept. 28, 1941, in Wishek. They lived in Wishek. She was a homemaker and later worked for the Wishek Public Schools as a cook. He died Dec. 12, 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens, Golf Club and American Legion Auxiliary, all Wishek. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafting, quilting and reading.

She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn (Dick) Twete, Wadena, Minn., Gloria (Marvin) Knoll, Bismarck, N.D., Gail Escontrias, El Paso, Texas, and Roxanne (Fred) Thompson, Burnsville, Minn.; a brother, Arthur (Dorothy), Hazen, N.D.; three sisters, Leone Dutcher, Yankton, S.D., Ida (LaMont) Cass, Rapid City, S.D., and Laura Petersen, LaMarque, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Eissinger, Napoleon, N.D., Catherine Eissinger, San Dimas, Calif., and Colette Eissinger, Gackle, N.D.; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Glen Koskiniemi passed away peacefully on April 30, 2009 at Larson's Landing Adult Home in Vancouver, WA, at the age of 74, from Parkinson's Disease. He was born August 5, 1934 in Gackle, ND to Oscar & Marian Koskiniemi.

After serving in the US Army, he moved to Washington where he met his wife Alice (Kopman). Glen & Alice were married in 1956 and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

Glen worked as a mechanic at Freightliner for 33 years. He loved to read the classified ads and go to garage sales. He was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and he was a loving and generous husband, father and friend.

Glen is survived by his beloved wife Alice; three sons, Daniel (& Jackie), Dennis (& Teri), and David (& Wendy) all of Battle Ground, WA; and three daughters: Becky (& Randall) Schlecht of Loveland, CO, Beverly (& Kurt) Schlecht of Battle Ground, and Brenda (& Craig) Jackson of Ortonville, MI; two sisters, Mildred Berge of Grass Valley, OR and Audrey Lobbestael of Troy, MI; two brothers, Byron of Battle Ground and Ken of Addison, TX; 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of Christian friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Lindgren; brother, James; and granddaughter, Riana Schlecht.

Esther Kraft, 89, Jamestown, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Esther Edna Kraft was born Aug. 16, 1913, at the family farm home eight miles northeast of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Goehring) Kraft. At a young age, she moved with her family to Streeter where she grew up, received her elementary education and graduated from Streeter High School. After her father’s death she took care of her mother until her death. She was then employed as a sales clerk in various Streeter stores and one in Gackle, N.D. She moved to Jamestown in 1953 and was employed as a sales clerk in a grocery store. She started working at White Drug in 1955 as a sales clerk, and was employed there for 23 years until she retired in 1978. She entered Hi-Acres Manor on June 22, 1993. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, and the Women’s Missionary Society.

She is survived by three nephews, the Rev. Vernon (Beverly) Kraft, Lodi, Calif., Malvin (Alice) Muller, Lynnwood, Wash., and Welder (Stella) Batsch, Bismarck, N.D.; and two nieces, Hildegard (Edwin) Schmidt, Streeter, and Burdella (Lester) Lust, Rocklin, Calif.

Mrs. Kramlich was a native of New York and lived in Tracy three years. She enjoyed snowboarding, motorcycling, gardening, shopping, ice cream and watching movies.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Kramlich of Tracy; children, Kristina Kramlich of Tracy and Nicole Kramlich of Winters; brother, David Kort of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; and sister, Donna Bowlen of Dekalb, Ill.

Ewald Kramlich, 80, Medina, N.D., died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Fargo.

Mr. Kramlich was born June 25, 1918, in Fredonia, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He worked in Montana. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. On Oct. 16, 1948, he married Esther Klundt in Medina. They lived in Tappen, N.D., for a year, while he worked as a mechanic, then moved to farm near Medina. In 1979 they moved to Medina, where they operated Kramlich True Value Hardware. In 1986 he returned to live on their farm near Medina. He is survived by two sons, Dennis, Fargo, Joseph, Jamestown, N.D.; a daughter, Sarah Kramlich Koper, St. Cloud, Minn.; four brothers, Reinhold, ...

John Kramlich, 79, Wahpeton went home to the Lord on April 21, 2007. Mr. Kramlich was born July 8, 1927 in Wishek, ND.

He joined the Armed Forces February 10, 1951 and was honorably discharged December 3, 1956. On January 16, 1954, he married Ferne Krein and moved to Fargo. He worked at the Union Stockyards in West Fargo for 20 plus years and also worked at Gethsemane Episcopal Church for ten plus years. He then moved to California. In November 2006 due to failing health he moved back to North Dakota residing at St. Catherine’s Nursing home in Wahpeton.

I am a niece and have not seen John for many years, lost track of him when he was in Vallejo, CA. My condolences to his family. It is a little unfortunate that the Kramlich family was so large that if was almost impossible to keep up with everyone. My mother was Bertha (Kramlich) Wallenten.

She grew up on the family farm and attended rural Logan County schools. She farmed with her brothers and moved to Wishek in 1979. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She enjoyed gardening, canning garden produce and flowers.

She is survived by six brothers, John, Valligo, Calif., Willie, Richmond, Calif., Benny, Puyallup, Wash., Reuben (Arlene), Jamestown, Fred (Norma), West Fargo, N.D., and Edward, Gackle, N.D.; and two sisters, Mary Conn, Bakersfield, Calif., and Ida Marcus, San Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Gust, Jake, Ernest, Sam, Edwin, Adolph and August; and three sisters, Lydia Enzi, Bertha Wallenten and Matilita Tarnasky.

Reuben Kramlich, 78, Jamestown, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Kramlich was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Samuel and Magdalena (Jundt) Kramlich. He grew up and attended rural Logan County schools. He married Arlene Frey on Oct. 9, 1955, in Lehr, N.D. They farmed in the Lehr and Wishek, N.D., area until 1963. They moved to Kulm, N.D., and worked at the Hartman Ranch until 1979. They then moved to Jamestown where he was employed at Jamestown Public Schools until 1993. He enjoyed reading, watching television, vacationing and driving around the countryside.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Darcy, Grassy Butte, N.D., Ramsey, Tioga, N.D., and Blakely, Durango, Colo.; three daughters, Brenda Schlenker, Fargo, N.D., and Beverly (Darin) Goter and Bonny Kramlich (Todd Lippert), both Jamestown; four brothers, Willie, Richmond, Calif., Benny, Puyallup, Wash., Fred, West Fargo, N.D., and Edward, Gackle, N.D.; a sister, Ida Marcus, San Francisco; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Gust, Jake, Ernest, Sam, Edwin, August and John; five sisters, Lyda Enzi, Bertha Wallenten, Matilita Tarnasky, Mary Conn and Pauline Kramlich; and a half brother, Adolph Kramlich.

Mrs. Fredericka Kranzler, 78, longtime resident of the Streeter Community died early Wednesday morning, December 14, 1966 at the Gackle Hospital in Gackle, N.D. where she had been hospitalized for about six months.

Frederick Buck was born March 30, 1888 at Scotland, S.D., and was the daughter of Michael Buck, Sr. and Margaretha Wolfert Buck/ The family moved to North Dakota, first settling at Lehr, and in the year 1893 moved to the "Flat" southwest of Streeter in Logan County where they farmed. In the year 1907, they moved into Streeter where Mr. Buck became engaged in the implement business.

On February 13, 1908, she and Gottlieb Kranzler were married in Streeter. They farmed three and a half miles south of Streeter. Following the death of her husband on November 3, 1918, she and her five children, aged 10 years to 10 months moved into Streeter to make their home. Through the years her daughter Minnie has lived with her mother, and cared for her until due to her serious illness became hospitalized.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethern Church in Streeter and was a member of the WSWS Circle One.

Surviving are her five daughters: Minnie (Mrs. Minnie Spitzer), Streeter, N.D.; Martha (Mrs. Theo Vix), Barstow, Calif.; Margaret (Mrs. Wm. Schilling), Viborg, S.D.; Lydia (Mrs. Leland C. Oakes), Penryn, Calif.; Ida (Mrs. Ben Zimmerman), Madison, S.D.; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters Marie (Mrs. Christ Hochhalter), Streeter, N.D., Dorothea (Mrs. Dorothea Hirning), Marion, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 18, 1966 at the Ebenezer Evangelical United Brethern Church in Streeter with the Rev. Robert Logan, pastor and Rev. Floyd Breaw, Streeter, N.D. officiating.

The pallbearers were Theo H. Graf, Weslei Buck, Irwin Buck, Reinhold Buck, William Graf, and Otto Dewald.

Burial was in the Streeter Cemetery with Haut Funeral Home of Gackle in charge of arrangements.

Out of state relatives attending were: Mrs. Theo Vic, Barstow Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schilling of Viborg, S.D.; Mrs. Leland C. Oakes, Penryn, Calif.; Rev. and Mrs. Ben Zimmerman and Mr. Don Zimmerman of Madison, S.D.

Reuben S. Kranzler, 90, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Friday April 28, 2006, at Bethany Homes, Fargo.

Mr. Kranzler was born Oct. 11, 1915, at Fredonia, N.D., the son of Adam and Margaret (Lippert) Kranzler. He grew up in the Lehr, N.D., area and received his elementary education at Lehr School. He married Helen O. Kautz on Sept. 30, 1941, at Lehr. They lived in Lehr. He entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 30, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received the service medal, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and two Bronze Service Stars. He was discharged on Jan. 19, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Wash., with the rank of Tec 5. He returned to Lehr where he worked at various jobs. They moved to Jamestown in 1951. He worked at the Brass Rail for 26 years. He retired in 1977. She died Dec. 21, 2000. In October 2003, he entered the Veterans Home, Lisbon, N.D. In May 2004, he entered Bethany Homes. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by three sisters, Edna Kern, Sunnyside, Wash., Viola Becker, Wishek, N.D., and Delores (Eugene) Holzworth, Bismarck, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Ervin and Raymond.

Florence Krause, 74, Jamestown, died Friday, May 9, 2003, from an automobile accident near Austin, Nev.

Florence Charlotte Christine Essig was born July 18, 1928, near Lehr, N.D., the daughter of Walter and Ida (Widmer) Essig. She was baptized Aug. 19, 1928, at King Community Church, rural Lehr. She attended rural schools near Lehr, and was confirmed in 1942. In 1948 she worked at Trinity Hospital, Jamestown, until the hospital closed in 1966. She married Marvin Krause on April 16, 1950, at Lehr. She worked 24 years for Bostwicks, Jamestown, until retiring in July 1990. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, AAL and a church quilting group.

She is survived by two brothers, Roland (Adeline), Bismarck, N.D., and Clyde (Shirley) Essig, Lehr; and two sisters, Ella (Bernard) Dudgeon, Bismarck, and Marline (Lloyd) Ulmer, Mandan, N.D.

Herbert Krause, 93, Jamestown, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Krause was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Alexander Township near Alfred, N.D., the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Koenig) Krause. He attended school and grew up there while helping on the family farm. He married Anna Wegner on June 13, 1937, at Alfred. He started farming in 1937 and also drilled wells in the 1930s and 1940s. They lived on several different farms north of Alfred, until they moved to the Krause homestead in 1946. They retired from farming in 1967 and moved to Jamestown where he did carpenter work and worked for Bollinger Construction until he retired. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ and served on various church and township boards.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Lucille (Elroy) Letcher, Helena, Mont., and Rosella (James) Porter, Winnemucca, Nev.; two sisters, Alma Wegner, Gackle, N.D., and Suzie Zimmerman, Jamestown; three sons, Harry (Brenda), Gackle, Gary (Karen), Frazee, Minn., and Jeffrey (Brenda), Palo, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ervin, Jack and Emmanuel; three sisters, Matilda Janhke, Emma Schlenker and Lena Lavin; and two grandsons, Korey Krause and Wendell Letcher.

Irene Krause, 77, Gackle, N.D., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Irene Lang was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Gackle, the daughter of Gust and Lydia C. (Reuer) Lang. She attended school in Alfred, N.D., and graduated from Gackle High School in 1943. She then attended one year of college at Valley City, N.D. She married Jacob "Jack" Krause on June 12, 1944, at Moorhead, Minn. They lived on a farm three miles northeast of Alfred. Following their retirement in 1981, they moved into Gackle. He died Feb. 18, 1991. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Gackle.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (Karen), Bismarck, N.D., and Rodney (Gwen), Alfred; two daughters, Karen Krause, Bay City, Mich., and Terry (Dean) Remboldt, Jamestown; a brother, Burnett (Dorothy), Alfred; two sisters, Ella Strusis, Bullhead City, Ariz., and Ruby (Jerry) Noble, Lodi, Calif.; a special friend, Irene Rivinius, Gackle; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marvin Krause, 79, Jamestown, died Friday, May 9, 2003, from an automobile accident near Austin, Nev.

Mr. Krause was born Nov. 19, 1923, at Lehr, N.D., the son of Oscar and Lydia (Koepplin) Krause. He attended local schools. He was baptized May 1, 1927, at the family home. In 1941 he went to St. Paul, Minn., to work in a defense plant. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army, serving until 1946 in the European Theatre. He worked for Lehr Electric Shop. In 1948 he moved to Jamestown, and worked for the city of Jamestown Water Department. He married Florence Essig on April 16, 1950, at Lehr. In 1962 he worked for Central Dakota Lumber and Supply until retiring in 1975 due to injuries. He was confirmed March 1, 1964, at Concordia Lutheran Church. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where he was active in AAL.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sisters, Florence Metzger and Martha Whittmyer; and a brother, Ervin.

Services: 11 a.m., Wednesday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Robert Leiste officiating.

Mr. Kreil was born April 6, 1918, in Logan, N.D. He served in the Army during World War II and moved to Vancouver in about 1966. He was an automotive repairman. In 1947, he married Patricia Lonski; she died in 2000.

Survivors include his brothers, Jack, Willie and Oscar; and sisters, Lorraine Vanderberg, Alice Vipperman, Alvena Fietzek and Viona Orr.

Beverly A. "Bever" Kreil, 61, Sumner, Wash., died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Puyallup, Wash.

Beverly Ann Gums was born Aug. 31, 1939, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Edward and Martha (Schneider) Gums. She operated an in-home day care for 14 years.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alroy Kreil, Sumner; two children, Darrin, Sumner, and Terri, Lakewood, Wash.; five sisters, Alice Parkhouse and Betty Dronen, both North Dakota, Mary Durupt and LaVerne Klose, both Bremerton, Wash., and Doris Van Wagner, Puyallup.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob Rueben and John; and three sisters, Violet Telken, Bertha Boelke and Lillian Borges.

Elsie Lang was born Oct. 30, 1928, near Gackle, N.D. In 1936, she moved with her family to Jamestown where she attended school. She worked as a waitress at the Valley and Gladstone cafes in Jamestown. On July 3, 1947, she married Ruben Kreil in Detroit Lakes, Minn. From 1958 to 1967 they lived in San Rafael, Calif. They returned to Jamestown in 1968. She worked for 17 years at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown. He died in 1992.

Jack Reinhold Kreil Sr., 87, Jamestown, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Kreil was born Oct. 31, 1919, on the family farm near Gackle, N.D., the son of Reinhold and Christina (Ruff) Kreil. He attended country school near Gackle and worked on the family farm. He joined the U. S. Army during World War II. He participated in the first landings at Normandy, France. Following his discharge he returned to North Dakota. He married Grace Burton on Aug. 24, 1946, at Valley City, N.D. They moved to the state of Washington in 1950, where he was employed by the Boeing Aircraft Co. They returned to Jamestown in 1951, where he was employed at various jobs, including West End Hide and Fur, Jamestown. He was disabled in the 1960s and later graduated from Hanson Trade School. She died April 1, 2000.

He is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Robert) Guiborat, Bolingbrook, Ill., and Karen (Myron) Lee, Jamestown; two sons, Jack Jr. (Vicky) and Kurtis, both Jamestown; three sisters, Viona Orr, Alice Vipperman and Lorraine (Allen) Vandeberg, all Jamestown; a brother, Oscar, Jamestown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jeff; parents; five brothers, Alden, Ruben, Alroy, Alven, and Wilbert; and a sister, Alvina.

Oscar Kreil, 86, Jamestown, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Kreil was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Reinhold and Christena (Ruff) Kreil. He grew up and attended various country schools in the Gackle area. He entered the U.S. Army on June 24, 1943. He served in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1945. He married Virginia Orr on Nov. 1, 1946, in Valley City, N.D. He worked as a security guard at the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown. She died July 29, 1990. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

He is survived by three sisters, Lorraine (Alan) Vanderberg, Alice Vipperman and Viona Orr, all Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Alvina Fietzek; and six brothers, Alvin, Alden, Alroy, Reuben, Jack and Wilbert.

Mr. Krieger was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Gackle, the son of John and Maria (Kleinknecht) Krieger. He attended the local rural school and grew up in the area. He graduated from LaSalle University, Chicago, Ill., with a Bachelor of Arts in finance and commerce. He entered the U.S. Army on June 22, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn., served for three years and was honorably discharged Dec. 19, 1945, with the rank of sergeant. He returned home and began his career as a banker at the First State Bank of Gackle in 1946. With his brother, Fred, he started the Krieger Theatre in Gackle in 1946, which he owned and operated. He married Pauline Hirth on July 5, 1961, in Canton, S.D. They lived in Gackle. In 1985, he retired from the First State Bank of Gackle. In 1994, he retired from operating the Krieger Theatre and moved to Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Post 250 American Legion, Lions and Gackle Country Club, all Gackle, and was an election precinct officer.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Marchel (Rachel), Jamestown; and a granddaughter.

Albert was born February 8, 1920 in Gackle, the son of John and Maria (Kleinknecht) Krieger. He later graduated from LaSalle University of Chicago, IL and received his BA in finance and commerce. He entered the US Army June 22, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN, served for 3 years and was honorably discharged December 19, 1945 with the rank of SGT. After he returned home, he started his career as a banker at the First State Bank of Gackle in 1946. He and his brother Fred started the Krieger Theatre in Gackle in 1946, where he owned and operated it.

She married Lawrence R. Kreiger and they settled in Marysville, Wash., her last few years she lived at the Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, Wash.

Betty worked at Boeing as a storekeeper, sending out airplane parts. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, writing letters and singing in the church choir. She loved camping trips to the woods and by the water with her family. Betty was a positive person who could brighten your day. She truly enjoyed life and knew how to, roll with the punches.

She is survived by two sons, Lyle and his wife, Valerie, and Steven and his wife, Jennifer; a daughter, Denise Young; her grandchildren, Andrew, Sandy, Aaron, Dawniel and Kyle; and her sisters, Gladys Babitzke and her husband, Walter and Phyllis Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence; and her daughter, Sharon.

Her family and friends have many loving memories and they will miss her very much.

A Memorial Service was held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville. Inurnment will be at Marysville Cemetery.

Dorothea Krieger, 96, Steele, N.D., formerly Gackle, N.D., died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Golden Manor, Steele.

Dorothea Rath was born April 27, 1906, on the family farm northwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John Rath Jr. and Mary (Deutchel) Rath. She grew up in the Gackle area and received her elementary education at the Griffin Township school. She helped on the family farm. She married Emil Krieger on Jan. 24, 1929, at her parents farm northeast of Gackle. They lived on a farm 16 miles south of Gackle for eight years. In 1937 they bought a farm eight miles northwest of Gackle, where they lived for 31 years. In 1968 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. Emil died in 1986. In 1997 she entered the Gackle Care Center. In 2000 she entered the Golden Manor, Steele. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Gackle. She was a Sunday school teacher and a charter member of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by two sons, Hilbert, Jamestown, and Raymond, Lodi, Calif.; a sister, Alice Kienzle, Jamestown; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, LeRoy; four sisters and seven brothers.

Marie Krieger, 95, Gackle, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at a hospital in Bullhead City, AZ while visiting her daughter and family.

Marie Boschee was born March 5, 1907 at Wishek, the daughter of Jacob and Katharina (Rudolph) Boschee. She and John J. Bauer were married Nov. 29, 1929 at Wishek. They made their home on a farm north of Lehr. Following the death of her husband July 4, 1956 she continued to reside near Lehr. She and Rudolph Krieger were married Oct. 4, 1961 at Napoleon.

Pauline H. Krieger, 81 Gackle, ND died early Tuesday morning May 13, 2008 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Pauline Hirth was born August 22, 1926 at Edgeley, ND the daughter of William Hirth and Matilda (Rohde) Hirth. She received her elementary education and attended Edgeley High School graduating in 1946. She attended Ellendale Teacher’s College and graduated in 1948. She taught at rural schools for seven years in LaMoure County until 1955 when she went to work at Jamestown Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid.

She and Albert Krieger were married July 5, 1961 in Canton, SD. They made their home in Gackle, ND, where she worked at the Krieger Theatre which they owned and operated. Following the death of her husband on September 29, 2004 she continued to reside in Gackle and work at the theatre.

Pauline loved to work in her garden. Her pride and joy of her flowers were her roses. She enjoyed walking around town and visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Marchel (Rachel) Krieger; 2 granddaughters, Rebecca and Jessica Krieger, all of Jamestown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Rudolph Krieger, 92, Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, in Wishek (N.D.) Community Hospital.

Mr. Krieger was born Sept. 24, 1904, near Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. On March 25, 1928, he married Magdalina Gruszie in Medina, N.D. They farmed near Gackle. She died in 1959. On October 4, 1961, he married Marie Boschee in Napoleon, N.D. They farmed near Gackle. In 1971 they retired and moved into Gackle.

Verna Jerke was born March 11, 1932, at the family farm in Griffin Township northwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Rudolf and Pauline (Stickel) Jerke. She grew up in the area and received her elementary education in Gackle. She married Hilbert Krieger on June 13, 1949, in Glyndon, Minn. They lived and worked on the farm for many years. She later retired and moved to Jamestown. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Gackle, Homemakers and the Eagles Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey (Jean), Peoria, Ill., Jeremy (Debbie), West Fargo, N.D., and Markus (Anita), Ft. Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Hilbert Krieger, Jamestown.

Vance L. Kro, 59, Jamestown, N.D., formerly Fessenden, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, in Hi Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Kro was born July 26, 1938, in Fessenden, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1956. He worked as a bookkeeper and salesman for Clark Oil Co., Fessenden. He entered the U.S. Army in 1961. Following his discharge in 1963, he returned to Fessenden and resumed his position at Clark Oil. On Sept. 25, 1964, he married Gloria Klundt in Jamestown. They made their home in Fessenden where he continued to work for Clark Oil until 1973 when he was appointed Wells County Tax Director. Arthur D. Krueger, 87, Wishek, N.D., formerly of Fredonia, N.D., died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Mr. Krueger was born Aug. 8, 1922, on the family farm near Fredonia in Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Daniel and Ida (Elhard) Krueger. He received his elementary education in the local rural schools and grew up in the Fredonia area where he helped on the family farm. He then attended Dakota Business College, Fargo, N.D. He returned to the Fredonia area where he farmed and taught in several rural schools in Logan County throughout the 1950s. He farmed until he retired in 1995. He lived on the farm until March 1998 when he entered a basic care facility in Jamestown where he lived until October 2009. He then entered Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lehr, N.D., where he taught Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Velora Hensley, Breckenridge, Minn., and nieces and nephews, Lavina (Stanley) Benkendorf, LouAllen (Gertie) Krueger, Linda (Reuben) Boschee, Carrel (Kim) Krueger, Kermith Krueger, Kevin Krueger and Curtis (Carla) Krueger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gerhart, Edwin, Herbert and Morris; and a sister, LaVina.

Bertha Burkle was born June 6, 1912, near Fredonia, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Jan. 31, 1943, she married Edwin Krueger in Fredonia. They farmed near Fredonia. In 1988, they moved into Kulm. He died in 1989.

The funeral for Mrs. Edward (Christina) Krueger, 75, was at 2 Wednesday in Martin Luther Lutheran Church at Fredonia with Rev. Russell Hunter officiating.

Mrs. Krueger, a pioneer resident of Fredonia, died Saturday in an area hospital, where she had been a patient for a week.

The former Christina Widmer, she was born in Russia Jan. 17, 1899, and came to the United States at the age of seven with her parents to settle at Kulm, N.D. She was married here May 16, 1909, and the couple farmed here until 1938 when they moved to Williams, Minn. They returned here in 1945 to farm until retiring.

She leaves 14 children: Reginald, Magelon, Waldemar and Ernest, all Fredonia; Mrs Clifford (Inna) Collins, Libby, Mont.; Hilbert, Bismarck, N.D.; Gerhardt, Sonoma, Calif.; Lorenz, Oakland, Calif.; Victor, Jamestown, N.D.; Clifford, Spokane, Wash.; Arno and Hedwig, both Kulm; Milford, Banks, Ore.; T. Sgt. Clinton, Adair Field, Corvallis, Ore.

There are three brothers and three sisters, Jacob, George and Mrs. Karl (Otillia) Munsch, all Fredonia; John, Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Walter (Ida) Essig, Lehr, N.D.; and Mrs. Fred (Pauline) Wanner, Pierre, S.D. There are 21 grandchildren.

Ida Krueger, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Ida C. Munsch was born Jan. 3, 1919, near Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of Karl Sr. and Ottilia (Widmer) Munsch. She attended rural Fredonia School, where she received her elementary education. She worked on the family farm and for other families. She married Fred J. Krueger on March 25, 1938. They worked for a farmer near Fredonia for a year. They then worked for his parents on a share basis for four years. During this time, they built a farm of their own, which they operated until May 1960, when he died. She continued farming with her family until October 1963, when she sold the farm to her son, Elmer. In June 1964, she moved to Wishek with her son, Rodney. In October 1964, she began working at the Wishek Retirement and Nursing Home where she worked for 27 years. She retired in Wishek. She entered the Wishek Home for the Aged in July 2002. She was a member of United Church of Christ, Wishek.

She is survived by four sons, Donnel (Ardella), Breckenridge, Minn., Harris (Patricia) and Lemore (Janice), both Clovis, Calif., and Rodney (Rosemary), Fresno, Calif.; a daughter-in-law; Esther Krueger, Ashley, N.D.; a son-in-law, Jerome Meidinger, Strausburg, N.D.; a brother, Herman (Lucille), Kulm; three sisters; Esther Entzi and Lilia Riebhagen, both Wishek, and Hulda Nelson, Barrett, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Garry, Larry and Elmer; a daughter, Ilene Meidinger; four brothers, Leonard, Karl, Harold and Ted; and four sisters, Lorraine , Clara, Anna and Ruth.

Leontina D. "Lena" Krueger, 80, Rosemount, MN, formerly Jamestown, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Walker Methodist Health Center, Minneapolis, MN.

Leontina Sukut was born June 30, 1923, on the family farm west of Fredonia, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Bender) Sukut. She received her elementary education in Hoffnustral School District, grew up in the area and worked on the family farm. She married Roland Krueger on Oct. 26, 1941.

Melvin Vernon Krueger, 80, Kalispell, Mont., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at a Libby, Mont., hospital.

Mr. Krueger was born Sept. 22, 1923, at Bismarck, N.D., the son of Albert and Lena (Grabau) Krueger. He grew up in the Fredonia, N.D., area. The family moved to Medina, N.D., in 1939. He attended Medina High School but left before graduation to join the U.S. Navy. He married Doris King. They later divorced. He married Vera Faris. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, on ship duty and then as a Navy recruiter in Des Moines, Iowa, and Williston, N.D., before retiring. He then worked as a shipping clerk at a drug store in Spokane, Wash. They later moved to Kalispell, Mont., where he worked as a car salesman.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; two sons, Mel Jr., Arizona, and James, California; a stepson, Dean Faris, Oak Harbor, Wash.; two brothers, Lester (Phyllis), Napa, Calif., and Willard (Ruth), Fargo, N.D.; and two sisters, Verna Peterson, Jamestown, and Lila (Doug) Dehne, Mandan, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth; and two brothers-in-law, Edwin Moser and Erik Peterson.

The funeral for Rudolph Kuck, 93, Medina, N.D., will be at 11 Friday in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Medina. Visitation will be from noon to 9 tonight and from 9 to 9 Thursday, in Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, and one hour before services in the church. He died Monday, Aug. 7, 1995.

Mr. Kuck was born Feb. 9, 1902, near Gackle, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. In 1921 he worked for a hardware store in Fredonia, N.D., until moving back to Gackle, where he farmed with a threshing crew. In 1926 he moved to Medina, where he married Martha Schlaht on April 3, 1931. They farmed near Medina until 1976, when they retired and moved into Medina. She died in 1993. He entered Gackle Care Center in 1994. ...

Anna Kuhn, 93, Jamestown, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Anna Schlenker was born Feb. 28, 1909, at the family farm near Jud, N.D., the daughter of David and Barbara (Heidinger) Schlenker. She grew up near Jud, where she received her elementary education in a local rural school and helped on the family farm. She married Wilhelm "Bill" Kuhn on Oct. 25, 1927, at Jud, at the home of her parents. They lived on the Kuhn family farmstead until November 1934, when they moved to Alfred, N.D. He died Jan. 23, 1982. She continued to reside in Alfred. In January 1984 she and her daughter, Laura, moved to Gackle. On Dec. 12, 2001, she entered Central Dakota Nursing Home. She wrote the Alfred news reports for printing in The Jamestown Sun and Edgeley Mail. She was a substitute mail carrier and assisted the postmaster in The Alfred Post Office. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Gackle, and Guilding Light, providing piano accompaniment for various church activities. She was a past member of the Alfred Homemakers Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Aipperspach, Jamestown, and Laura Kuhn, Gackle; a son, Harry (Shirley), Steeleville, Ill.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Maurice, in 1976; a brother, and two sisters.

Della Kuhn, 70, Alfred, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Della Widmer was born April 16, 1933, at the family farm home east of Alfred, the daughter of Edwin and Pauline (Pfeifle) Widmer. She attended Alfred Public School, where she received her elementary education, and grew up in the area. She married Maurice Kuhn on Jan. 6, 1954, at LaMoure, N.D. They lived on a farm 4 1/2 miles southwest of Alfred. Following his death on Jan. 29, 1976, she remained on the farm until 1977 when she moved to Gackle, N.D., where she did various jobs in the area. In 1983 she moved to Jamestown where she worked at White Drug. She later returned to Alfred and worked at Gackle-Streeter Public School until she retired in 2001. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Gackle, a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Alfred and a 14-year Alfred Cemetery sexton. She enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by two daughters, Michelle A. (Wilmer) Pich, Menoken, N.D., and Brenda J. (Dennis) Mayer, Gackle; a son, Blair W. (Kristi), Oakes, N.D.; two sisters, Jeanette Beyer, Jamestown, and Phyllis Schlenker, Zillah, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, LeRoy, and a sister, Betty.

Marie O. Kuhn, 84, Jamestown, N.D., died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in Jamestown Hospital.

Marie Heller was born April 11, 1913, near Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On June 5, 1938, she married Albert Kuhn near Gackle, where they lived. In 1969 they retired to Jamestown. He died in 1988.

Delia Kungel, 86, Kulm, N.D., died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Delia Reinke was born Jan. 21, 1919, 18 miles southeast of Kulm, the daughter of Fred Sr. and Katherine (Raab) Reinke. She married Richard Kungel on Sept. 11, 1938. They lived on a farm south of Kulm with his parents. They later purchased their own farm where they lived until 1989. After retiring, they moved into Kulm. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kulm, where she sang with various vocal ensembles. She provided food to people in need. She enjoyed singing, gardening, flowers, cooking and baking.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Darwin (Jan), Fredonia, N.D.; two daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Crawford, Lincoln, Neb., and Cindy Kungel, Fargo, N.D.; three brothers, Ed, Cedar Edge, Colo., Oscar, Rapid City, S.D., and Marvin, Forbes, N.D.; a sister, Edna Patzer, Loma Linda, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred Jr. and Herbert; and two sisters, Ida Mosel and Elsie Reinke

Richard A. Kungel, 90, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, N.D.

Mr. Kungel was born Oct. 15, 1915, in McIntosh County, North Dakota, the son of Andreas and Katie (Bohnet) Kungel. He married Delia Kungel on Sept. 11, 1938. They lived on a farmstead south of Kulm with his parents before purchasing their own farm where they farmed until 1989. They retired and moved to Kulm. He was a member of Kulm Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served as treasurer and deacon for many years, and Kulm School Board.

He is survived by a son, Darwin (Jeanette), Fredonia, N.D.; two daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Crawford, Lincoln, Neb., and Cindy Kungel, Fargo, N.D.; three sisters, Ida Stotz, Aberdeen, S.D., Viola Flemmer, Hemet, Calif., and Lualla Wolfe, Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three sisters, Molly Reinke, Emma Blumhardt and Elsie Junkert; and two brothers, Adam and Edwin.

Hillsboro, N.D. - Cletus Kuntz, 68, Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital.

Mr. Kuntz was born March 14, 1935, in Napoleon, N.D. He moved with his family to Hillsboro, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1953. After military service, he married Beverly Holt Oct. 15, 1956. They lived in Hillsboro where he worked for Scheel’s Hardware. They moved to Mayville, N.D., where he worked for Bjelde’s Hardware Store. He later owned and operated the Our Own Hardware Store in Portland, N.D. In 1975, they moved to Hatton, N.D., where he and his brother-in-law operated the Hardware Hank Store. They moved to Billings, Mont., in 1979 where he worked for Parker Montana Implement Dealership. He moved back to North Dakota in 1988 and owned a bar in Gackle. He had recently entered Hillsboro Nursing Home.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff (LaRae), Hillsboro, Jason (Sarah), Janesville, Wis.; four daughters, Jamie (Lars) Eriksson, Clifford, N.D., Jackie (Bob) Fiumara, Thornton, Colo., Jennifer (Kent) Barr, Boise, Idaho, Julie (Craig) Sievertsen, Billings; five sisters, Agatha (Don) Miller, Camarillo, Calif., Mary Lou (Russ) Waters, Hillsboro, Rosie Anderson, Laurie (Michael) McCormack, both Bismarck, Ginny (Bob) Johnson, Lakeville, Minn.; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Kathrina Kusler, 72, Omak, Washington, died suddenly at her home Wednesday, November 23, 1955. She was a member of the Reformed church. Pastor James A. Moore of the Methodist church was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Omak cemetery.

Kathrina Bender was born February 20, 1883, at Scotland, South Dakota. On May 24, 1904, she was united in marriage to Gottlieb Kusler at Ashley. They lived in the Fredonia [ND] area until 1937, when they moved to Omak, Washington. Last year they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Surviving are her husband, Gottlieb, of Omak; twelve children, Edward of Jamestown, Reinhold of Deer Park; Hugo of Wilbur, Washington; Gideon, Jake, Johanna Jerrow, John and Sam, all of Omak; Mrs. [Eda] Karl Grenz of Fredonia; Mrs. [Alida] Willis Harriman of Bandon, Oregon; Calvin Kusler of Seattle; Milbert of Yakima; 27 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Peter Bender of Fairview, Montana; George Bender of Brooks, Alberta, Canada; John Bender of Linton, North Dakota; three sisters, Mrs. Magdalena Voll of Yankton, South Dakota; Christine Rembold of Scotland, South Dakota and Mrs. Emma Sukut of Fredonia.

Mrs. Adam Kusler, 90, of Kulm died Saturday at her home. The funeral was Tuesday in Kulm EUB Church.

Regina Serr was born in 1873 at Yankton, S.D. She was married to Mr. Kusler in 1898 at Jasper, Minn. They lived on a farm at Scotland, S.D., until moving to North Dakota and settling near Fredonia in 1902. After farming for seven years they moved into Fredonia and, later, to Kulm in 1924.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Louis Kemnitz, Kulm; a son Theodore, of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a brother, Theodore Serr of Mandan. (Nickisch Funeral Home).

Edwin Kurtz, 86, LaMoure, N.D., died Monday, May 15, 2006, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.

Mr. Kurtz was born Nov. 30, 1920, at Alfred, N.D., the son of G. G. and Margaretha (Henne) Kurtz. He grew up in the Alfred area and attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army from April 12, 1942, until his discharge on Oct. 18, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his discharge, he moved to the Adrian, N.D., area and farmed with his brother, John. He moved to St. Rose Care Center on April 21, 1995.

He is survived by a sister, Verneta Nickel, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Mathilda Kurtz, Hopkins, Minn.; and a brother-in-law, Robert Beyer, Milbank, S.D.

Harold A. Kurtz, 94, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Kurtz was born Feb. 9, 1907, in Avon, S.D. He moved with his family to Alfred, N.D., in 1915, where he grew up and attended school. He married Pearl Seckerson Sept. 24, 1930, in Jamestown, where they lived. He worked for Jamestown Hide and Fur before serving in the Navy Seabees during World War II. They then farmed near Jamestown, and he worked for the farm department of North Dakota State Hospital. He retired in 1972. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, Jerald (Fran), Jamestown; three daughters, Jeanette (Clayton) Hoyme, Moorhead, JoAn (Merle) Weatherly, Jamestown, Jean (Elroy) Ackerman, West Fargo; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
