The funeral for Henry Tahran, 85, Jamestown, N.D., will be at 1:30 Friday in Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 today and from 9 to 9 Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:15, and from 9 to 11 Friday in Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown. He died Monday, Jan. 22, 1996.

Mr. Tahran was born March 6, 1910, in Russia. He came to the United States in 1913 with his family, and they settled in Gackle, N.D. He grew up and attended school near Cleveland, N.D. In 1931, he attended Moler Barber College in Fargo. He worked as a barber in several communities, then purchased a shop in Jamestown in 1937. He married Violet Fischer Jan. 1, 1944, in Jamestown. He was a barber in Jamestown for more than 60 years and also operated a farm near Jamestown. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church. ...

He is survived by his wife, Violet; three sons, Russell, Fargo, Ralph, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Rodney, Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Ruby Harris, Lake Oswego; two brothers, John, Olympia, Wash., and the Rev. Violet Tahran, 87, Portland, Ore., formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Hopewell Hospice House, Portland.

Violet Fischer was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of August and Magdalena (Pfiefle) Fischer. She attended Streeter schools and graduated from Molar Barber College, Minneapolis. She married Henry Tahran on Jan. 1, 1944. They worked in Tahran’s Barber Shop for 50 years. For years she was one of the only female barbers in the state. They also owned a small farm, real estate and other small business interests in Jamestown and Fargo, N.D. They lived in Jamestown from about 1930 until 1996. He died in 1996. She moved to Portland in 1996. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown, serving on various committees, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was also active in PTA and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, craft work, writing and receiving letters.

She is survived by three sons, Russell, Dilworth, Minn., Ralph (Chris), Portland, and Rodney (Thuy), Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Ruby (Randy) Harris, Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Lena Vossler, Kent, Wash.; four sisters-in-law, Arva Dell Tahran and Olga Fischer, both Jamestown, and DeAnn Fischer and Gracie Fischer, both Iowa; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Harry and Norman; and a sister, Ruth.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Wilsonville, Ore.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, at a later date.

She was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Cleveland, N.D. A retired supervisor for a telephone company, she was a 50-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her brothers, David Blaskowsky of Gackle, N.D., Ruben Blaskowsky of Vancouver, Wash., and Aaron Blaskowsky of Santa Ana, Calif.; and sister, Martha O'Neil of Lacey, Wash.

Services are private. Palm Mortuary-Downtown handled the arrangements.

Bertha Tarnasky, 83, Jamestown, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Bertha Morlock was born Feb. 14, 1920, on the family farm northwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Fredericka (Stockburger) Morlock. She grew up on the family’s ranch, Delaney Ranch, and received her elementary education at a local rural school. She married Ruben Tarnasky on Oct. 7, 1945, at her parents’ farm near Streeter, N.D. They lived six miles east of Gackle, then farmed 10 miles north of Lehr, N.D. In 1949 they moved to Streeter, N.D., where she did numerous jobs. In 1970 they moved to a farm south of Eldridge, N.D., and she worked at Kenny Motel, Jamestown. In 1978 they moved to Gackle and she worked for Miller and Kirby Honey Plant. She worked at other jobs until retiring in 1995. She moved to Hi-Acres Manor in April 2003. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter.

She is survived by her husband, Gackle; three daughters, Judy (Norris) Jacobson and Betty (Gary) Brink, both Fargo, N.D., and Janice Ellingson, Mooreton, N.D.; a sister, Eva Zenker, Napoleon, N.D.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Robert Pestal officiating.

Mathilda was born on November 27, 1921, eight miles northwest of Gackle, ND, in McIntosh County, to John and Caroline (Herman) Grenz. She was raised and attended school near Gackle and helped with the family farming until her marriage to Marvin L. Tarnasky on October 26, 1947. They moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1948 and then to Bismarck in April of 1956. She provided child care for two local families.

Tillie was a member of First Baptist Church and the VFW in Bismarck. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting in her younger years and also liked growing flowers and working in her garden.

Tillie was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her husband, Marvin of Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Maggie Grenz and Marvin and Leah Grenz, all of Gackle; one sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Walter Sells of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Burt and Julia Grenz and Gust and Dorothy Grenz; and one sister and brother-in-law, Malida and Robert Weixel.

Walter Tarnasky, 76, Wishek, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the Wishek Retirement Home, Wishek.

Mr. Tarnasky was born May 27, 1932, at Lehr, N.D., the son of Michael and Mathilda (Kramlich) Tarnasky. He attended the local rural school near Lehr where he received his elementary education. In 1949 he moved with his parents to Streeter, N.D., where he did odd jobs and worked at various farms in the area. He entered the Wishek Retirement Home in 1998.

He is survived by three brothers, Ruben, Gackle, N.D., Marvin (Tillie), Bismarck, N.D., and Elmer (Adeline), Fargo; and two sisters, Esther Dockter, Fargo, and Idella Tarnasky, Wishek.

Walter Tarnasky, 76, Wishek, died Saturday September 27, 2008 at the Wishek Retirement Home in Wishek.

Walter was born May 27, 1932 at Lehr, the son of Michael Tarnasky and Mathilda (Kramlich) Tarnasky. He attended the local rural school near Lehr where he received his elementary education. In 1949 he moved with his parents to Streeter where he did odd jobs and worked at various farms in the area.

Kenneth Paul Taszarek, 71, Edgeley, N.D., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Taszarek was born June 30, 1937, on a farm in Ray Township near Edgeley, the son of Frank and Sophie (Tobolski) Taszarek. He attended Ray Township School #3. He joined the North Dakota National Guard in 1954 and served until 1964. He married Barbara VanWatermulen on Nov. 17, 1967, at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley. They lived in Edgeley. He worked for Union Stock Yards, Fargo, and also on the family farm with his father. He later was a brand inspector for North Dakota Stockman’s Association for the Edgeley area. He was the manager of Edgeley Improvement Association for 19 years and was on the Board of Directors for the North Dakota Beverage Dealers Association. He retired in 1998. He was a member of Edgeley Lions Club, Edgeley Jaycees, Edgeley City Council, Transfiguration Catholic Church and the Edgeley Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and feeding birds.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Tory (Jolene), Jamestown, and Timothy (Tami) West Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Carmen (John) Henn, Hillsboro, N.D.; a brother, Eugene (Marlys), Kulm, N.D.; two sisters, Marion Brosz, Edgeley, and Janet (Ron) Hall, Bellevue, Neb.; and nine grandchildren

Freida Teske, 90, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Freida Rott was born Jan. 27, 1918, on the family farm north of Streeter, N.D., the daughter of John and Katherine (Kirschenmann) Rott. She grew up in the area, helped on the family farm and attended the local rural school. She moved to Jamestown in 1949 where she worked at Anne Carlsen Center as a housekeeper for nine years. She also worked at the Buffalo and Jamestown motels for 20 years before she retired in 1983. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by a son, Gerald Teske, Jamestown; two sisters, Emma Hill, Jamestown, and Emelia Schauer, Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Edwin (Elsie), Jamestown, three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria; her parents, four stepsisters, two stepbrothers, two half-brothers and a half-sister.

Elaine Tesky, 52, Stafford, Va., formerly of Fort Collins, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005, at her home after a three-year battle with cancer.

Elaine Marie Elhard was born Nov. 20, 1952, in Jamestown, N.D., the daughter of Epharim and Erna (Rousch) Elhard. She attended school in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1971. She entered the LPN program at North Dakota State School of Science, graduating in 1972.

Elaine married Ernest Tesky of rural Ypsilanti, N.D., on May 27, 1972, at the First Congregational Church in Jamestown.

They moved to Colorado where Ernie was employed. She was employed by the Bebee Clinic in Fort Collins for five years. While in Fort Collins, Elaine and Ernie's two children, Corinne and Jeramie, were born. Elaine was baptized as a member of the Fort Collins Seventh Day Adventist Church and was very involved with church activities.

Elaine and family moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1980, when her husband was transferred by his employer. She was employed by the Cheyenne Orthopedic Clinic. She continued her activities with the SDA church and was involved with the SDA school that her children attended.

In 1983, Elaine and Ernie incorporated as ETKFC, Inc., leased and operated a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Salina, Kan. Along with helping with the business, Elaine remained active in the Salina SDA church, SDA school, and the children's youth group. She was also employed full time with the Salina Ophthalmology Clinic.

In 1986, Ernie moved again with family to Pierre, S.D. Fully enjoying her children growing to adults, she remained active with the SDA church and the many friends that her children would bring through her life. She continued to work as a LPN at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre. She also attended the A.D.N. program at Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D., receiving her RN license in 1993.

In 1995, with children grown, Elaine and Ernie moved to Stafford, Va. She took a position as a RN at Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Va. She joined the Woodbridge SDA Church.

Elaine enjoyed being with her family for the many "day trips," ski trips, fishing trips and church trips. On Sabbath days, she would enjoy trips with her family to nearby state parks to hike and enjoy a special closeness with God. She loved antiques, auctions, thrift stores and crafting. Her house is filled with mementos from the many trips she would take with Ernie. While in Virginia, she fell in love with the many historic places nearby and would marvel at how "God-inspired" this country's founding fathers were. She loved the renewal of spring and the colors of fall. She was well aware of God's creation.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Ernest Tesky of Stafford, Va.; mother, Erna Elhard of Bismarck, N.D.; two children, Corinne (Todd) Schmoker of Pingree, N.D., and Jeramie (Diana) Tesky of Casper, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Danielle and Samantha Schmoker of Pingree, N.D., and Jacob, Annabelle, Allyson and Jonas Tesky of Casper, Wyo.; one brother, Ed Elhard of Miles City, Mont., and two sisters, Eileen Elhard of Bismarck, N.D., and Ellen (Bill) Klenn of Bozeman, Mont.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown, N.D., with Pastor Barbara Murray officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, N.D.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown.

Lesley Theisen, 86, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Theisen was born Aug. 16, 1919, on the family farm near Berlin, N.D., the son of Peter and Anna (Matski) Theisen. He grew up on the farm and attended area rural schools. He then worked on the family farm and later moved to Michigan, where he worked in a steel factory. He returned to Berlin. A short time later he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1944 he returned to Berlin. He married Adeline Bollinger on Oct. 17, 1945. They lived on a farm near Dickey, N.D. They farmed in the area before moving to Billings, Mont., where he worked at an oil refinery. They moved to Millarton, N.D. He was employed by the North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown. They later lived at Alfred, N.D., Fried, N.D., and Medina, N.D., before moving to Jamestown in 1977. He then worked at YMCA for nine years before he retired

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, MaryAnn (Dean) Hanson, Drayton, N.D., Linda Mae (Robert) Thomas, Fairfax, Va., and Patricia (Ryan) Anderson, Spearfish, S.D.; a son, Douglas (Brenda), Oslo, Minn.; a sister, Luella Mahan, Concord, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Kathy White and Rose Krein; a brother-in-law, Steve Bollinger; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arthur B. Thurn, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Mr. Thurn was born Feb. 18, 1921, at rural Wishek, the son of John F. and Lisa (Kaseman) Thurn. His mother died during childbirth and he was raised by his father and stepmother, Pauline Thurn. He grew up and attended school near his homestead southwest of Wishek. He was confirmed at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. He started a farm southeast of Wishek in 1944, where he raised small grains and livestock. He married Irene Ulmer on March 30, 1947, in Wishek. They expanded their farming operation into dairy in the 1960s. They moved into Wishek in 1976. He remained active on the farm. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marvin (Becky), Garnerville, N.Y., and Larry (Brenda), Wishek; a daughter, Elaine (Mark) Unertl, Cottage Grove, Minn.; three brothers, Ben (Leona), Wishek, John (Elda), Jamestown, and Edgar (Marlene), Wishek; two sisters, Rose Bader, Wishek, and Lorraine (Walter) Meidinger, Bismarck, N.D.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline and Hilda; and a brother, Ruben.

Benjamin Thurn, 83, Wishek, N.D., died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Mr. Thurn was born March 17, 1927, near Venturia, N.D., the son of John and Pauline (Kaseman) Thurn. He grew up working on the family farm and attended rural school. He married Leona Bader on June 5, 1949, at United Methodist Church, Wishek. They farmed near Wishek and in 1975 moved into Wishek. He would witch for water wells. He owned Thurn Repairs and worked as a maintenance employee at Wishek Nursing Home. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Zeeland, N.D., St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, St. Andrews Choir and the German Choir. He enjoyed playing games, fishing, singing, and making sausage and headcheese.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Diana (James) Ost, and Betty (Robert) Ziebart, both rural Fredonia, N.D.; two twin sons, Kerry (Tamie), and Jerry (Susan), both Cozad, Neb.; two sisters, Rose Bader, Wishek, and Loraine (Walter) Meidinger, Bismarck, N.D.; two brothers, John (Elda), Jamestown, and Edgar (Marlene), Wishek; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Hilda Hildenbrand and Pauline Thurn; and two brothers, Arthur and Ruben.

John Thurn Jr. passed away at home in Jamestown, ND on Friday evening, October 1, 2010. He was 81 years old.

He was born to John F. and Pauline (Kaseman) Thurn in Eureka, SD on September 11, 1929. He grew up southwest of Wishek and graduated from Wishek High School in 1948, lettering in track and football. He taught in a series of one room schoolhouses, teaching all subjects, including, for some students, English as a second language. While teaching, he attended Ellendale Teacher’s College summers and evenings. He earned a double major in education and industrial arts. He taught in Zeeland; Eureka, SD; Columbus; and Jamestown. In 1970, he furthered his academic career with a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of North Dakota.

He met the love of his life, EldaVera Eleanor Pfeifle, one rainy evening in Ashley. She and her friends accepted a ride to get out of the rain, and a romance was born. After dating for two years, John popped the question on Elda’s 18th birthday, figuring she was old enough to say yes or no. They were married on June 15th, 1952, two weeks after Elda’s 19th birthday. Together, they had five children.

John taught for 43 years, 31 of those at Jamestown High School and Vocational Center. Initially he taught math and history, though the bulk of his career was spent teaching industrial arts and vocational education. For seventeen years, he took teams to the Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest, competing at state and national events. The teams he led placed highly at eleven of those tournaments, with many first place state trophies and as high as fourteenth at nationals.

John was known for his sharp skill playing pinochle. He enjoyed spending time with family, camping, traveling, singing, and gardening. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was a deacon and usher for many years.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elda, currently of Jamestown. It was John and Elda’s wish that they relocate to Fargo, and they were in the process of moving at the time of his death. Their son, Lyle, and granddaughter, Melissa, reside in Bismarck. Daughter, Bonnie Clarys, and her husband, Ron, and grandchildren Leisa Hrdlicka (Mike), Steven, and Kristin live in Fargo. Daughter, Beatrice Mikkelsen, and her husband, Craig, make their home in West Fargo; grandchildren Joshua (West Fargo) and Laura (University of North Dakota). Daughter, Belinda Cherney, resides in Jamestown; grandson Kurt (Megan Gumke), great-grandson Kashdon (West Fargo), grandson Scott (United States Marine Corps). Daughter, Michelle Schultz, and her husband, Craig, live in Portland, OR with grandson, Riley. Surviving brothers and sisters include Rose Bader and Edgar Thurn of Wishek and Loraine Meidinger of Bismarck. Other surviving family include Leona and Marlene Thurn, of Wishek, Shirley Thurn of Ashley, Walter Meidinger of Bismarck, Mabel Pfeifle of Fargo, Duane (Jean) Pfeifle and Jolene (Harry) Dodd of Wahpeton, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Pauline Thurn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Ida Pfeifle; son-in-law, Don Cherney; brothers Art, Benny, and Ruben; sisters Hilda Hildebrand and Pauline Thurn; and brother-in-law, Jerome Pfeifle.

Helen M. Toussaint, 90, Fargo, ND, died on October 12, 2003 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.

Helen Marie Hummel was born February 25, 1913 at Gackle, ND, to Jacob and Florence (Hawn) Hummel, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended Jamestown College and graduated from North Dakota State in 1935, with a degree in Home Economics. She taught for a couple of years in Brocket and Oakes, ND. Helen married Mel Toussaint on February 15, 1940 in Bismarck, ND.

She was active in First Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Chapter Y of the PEO and of the Fine Arts Club, Sports Section and was a volunteer for various organizations.

Helen is survived by one son, M. Robert (Sharon) Toussaint, Fargo; two daughters, Kathryn Toussaint, Yuma, AZ; Judi Fleming, Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Norman Hummel, Montrose, CA; one sister, Annetta (T.R.) Jones, Silver Spring, MD; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 11 AM, Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo.

Mary Margaret Tracy, 70, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital.

Mary Margaret was born on July 20, 1933 in Jamestown the only daughter of Frank and Elvira (Ranallo) Petrecca. Mary attended and graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1951. She worked briefly for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator before marrying Thomas Jerome Tracy, Sr. on April 14, 1953 at the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown. They moved to Gackle, ND where they raised their six children. In 1981 they moved back to Jamestown after Jim retired from the phone company. For the last 20 years Mary worked for Alpha Opportunities where she assisted with developmentally disabled individuals. Thomas "Jim" Tracy, Sr. died on March 8, 2002.

Mary’s life was devoted to her children and especially her grandchildren, who were the pride of her life.

Mary is survived by her six children, Thomas J. Thomas "Jim" J. Tracy, 80, Jamestown, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Innovis Healthcare Center, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Tracy was born Dec. 21, 1921, at Buffalo, N.D., the son of Daniel and Ellen Gertrude (McCarthy) Tracy. The family moved to a farm near Medina, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. The family later moved to Jamestown, where he graduated from St. John's Academy in 1941. He worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He entered the U. S. Army on Aug. 5, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He was in the Signal Corp and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was discharged Sept. 29, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wis. He returned to North Dakota and again worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He married Mary Petrecca in April of 1953 at Jamestown. They lived in Gackle, N.D., for 20 years before returning to Jamestown. He retired in 1981 after 40 years with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. After retirement he owned and operated Jim's VCR Repair Shop until his death.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Thomas J. (Fay) Jr., Kensal, N.D., Tim (Cindy), Kalispell, Mont., and John, Grand Forks, N.D.; three daughters, Susan (Steve) Kiemele and Angela (Austen) Schauer, both Fargo, and Rosemary (Kurt) Tompkins, Devils Lake, N.D.; two sisters, Betty (Jim) McMahon, Morago, Calif., and Doris Vaught, Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Mike (Helen), Bismarck, N.D.; and 13 grandchildren.

Blanche Tranmer, 95, Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Blanche Miska was born June 10, 1909, at St. Anthony, N.D., the daughter of Joseph and Anna Miska. She grew up in the area and attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She moved with her parents in the 1920s to a farm north of Cleveland, N.D. She married R.A. "Art" Tranmer on Aug. 4, 1927, at Jamestown. They lived on farms north of Cleveland, N.D. In 1939 they moved into Cleveland but continued to farm. In January 1941 they moved to Gackle where he became the Standard Oil bulk agent. He died Jan. 24, 1979. She moved to Central Dakota Village in 2004. She attended Grace Baptist Church, Gackle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Clara M. Niess Trautman, 88, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Clara Mathilda Siegle was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Lehr, N.D. She grew up and attended school near Streeter, N.D. She worked on the family farm. On Jan. 1, 1935, she married Jacob Niess in Tappen, N.D. They farmed near Tappen until his retirement when they moved to Jamestown. He died in 1982. On May 31, 1986, she married Christ Trautman in Jamestown. He died in 1992.

She is survived by three sons, Marlin (Wanda), Argusville, N.D., Vernon (Deann), Turlock, Calif., Calvin (Linda), Mandan, N.D.; three daughters, Loretta (Edwin) Hieb, Jamestown, Harriet (Calvin) Bender, Valley City, N.D., Arllys (Kurt) Altenbach, Racine, Wis.; a stepson, Harold (Mary), Jamestown; three stepdaughters, Lorraine (Steve) Wenass, Carrington, N.D., Norma (Wesley) Fish, Savage, Minn., Carol Cannon, Jamestown, N.D.; three sisters, Erna Rieker, Bismarck, N.D., Lorraine (Louis) Gonsalves, Antioch, Calif., Evangeline (August) Correia, Isleton, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren and 25 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Clara Neiss Trautman, 88, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Clara Mathilda Siegle was born Oct. 6, 1914 in Lehr, the daughter of Gottfried and Mathilda (Erbele) Siegle. She grew up near Streeter, attending school at Streeter and worked on the family farm. She married Jacob Niess on Jan. 1, 1935 in Tappen. They farmed south of Tappen until he retired in 1969 when they moved to Jamestown.

Edna Trautman, 89, Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Edna Magthalena Bader was born March 23, 1912, at Medina, N.D., the daughter of William and Amelia (Hennenberg) Bader. She grew up and attended school in Chicago Township south of Medina. On July 15, 1934, she married Rudolph Trautman of Cleveland, N.D. They rented a farm 12 miles northeast of Cleveland until 1935, when they moved to a farm six miles southeast of Medina. They farmed there during the Depression of the 1930s. In 1943 they moved to a farm one-half mile south of Medina, where they lived until 1986 when they moved to Medina. They lived in Medina until May of 1995, when they moved to the Gackle Care Center, Gackle. She was an active member of the English Lutheran Church, the church circle, Medina Homemakers Club and in community affairs, and supported school activities.

She is survived by three sons, William (Betty), Enderlin, N.D., Duane (Darlene), Medina, and Norman (Nancy), Billings, Mont.; a daughter, MoDean (James) McCullough, Moorpark, Calif.; a brother, Ernest, Medina; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronald; her parents; four sisters, Clara, Alma, Ruth and Emma, and a brother, Albert.

Jacob Trautman Jr., 96, Nampa, Idaho, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Nampa.

Mr. Trautman was born Feb. 15, 1907, in Streeter, N.D., the son of Jacob Sr. and Louise (Kercher) Trautman. He married Johanna Graf in 1929. They later divorced. He farmed in Napoleon and Driscoll, N.D., until moving to Homedale, Idaho, in 1941. He sharecropped and farmed the valley until 1950. He also worked for P.G. Batt in the Homedale area. In 1950 he moved to Moses Lake, Wash., and worked for the Bureau of Reclamation until he retired. In the fall of 1986 he moved to Nampa.

He is survived by two two sons, Adolph "Ade" (Kaye), Nampa, and Robert "Bob" (Julia), Meridian, Idaho; two sisters, Magdalina Herner, Lindstrom, Minn., and Katherine Hamann, Great Falls, Mont.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Elton and Raymond, three brothers, John, Fred and Bill; and two sisters, Anna Hanenburg and Ester Trautman.

Graveside service: 3 p.m. Friday, Marsing-Homedale Cemetery, Homedale, with the Rev. Marshall Vaughn officiating.

Esther Triepke, 81, Edgeley, N.D., died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D.

Esther Kalmbach was born Nov. 1, 1925, on the family farm southwest of Jud, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Elhard) Kalmbach. She grew up near Jud and attended Raney Township School. She married Harry Triepke on Oct. 21, 1942, in LaMoure. They lived on a farm in Bluebird Township south of Jud. They farmed until 1994 when they retired and moved to Edgeley. She entered St. Rose Care Center in May 2006. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, needlepoint and playing cards.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Rod (Peg), Nortonville, N.D., and Calvin (Bonnie) and Jerome (Sue), both Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Emma (Harry) Ehmann, Gackle, N.D.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Carol; three brothers, John, Henry and Christ; and three sisters, Martha, Lena and Orlinda.

Kimberly Trinko, 43, Jamestown, formerly Aberdeen, S.D., died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown, after a battle with multiple sclerosis.

Kimberly Valerie Fiechtner was born Aug. 20, 1963, in Jamestown, the daughter of ElRoy and Eileen (Lang) Fiechtner. She grew up on the family farm outside of Gackle, N.D. She attended school and graduated from Gackle High School in 1982. She attended North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton. She moved to California. She married Keith Trinko on Feb. 27, 1985. They moved to Aberdeen in 1993. She enjoyed camping, cooking and playing bingo.

She is survived by a daughter, Amanda (fiance Tyler Dockter) Trinko, Jamestown; her mother and stepfather, Delano and Eileen Kukrall, Ipswich, S.D.; two brothers, Glenn (Helen), Sioux Falls, S.D., and Brad (Pam), Aberdeen; a sister, Pam (fiance Myron Rau) Janke, Aberdeen; and a grandson.

Juliana Virginia Gardner was born February 26, 1924 to Michael and Elizabeth (Geisinger) Gardner at Napoleon. She attended Napoleon rural school and lived her entire life in North Dakota . On June 26, 1945, she married John Dittel at Cogswell. On December 21, 1967 she married Edwin Tweiten at Tappen.

Norman Ulmer, 74, Wishek, died Feb. 17, 2009. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at First Baptist Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Elton Labree officiating.

Norman was born Oct. 21, 1934, at the family farm home six miles southeast of Wishek, the son of William and Martha (Knoll) Ulmer.

He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to his manhood in the vicinity and began farming near the homestead. He married Vivian Franz on Nov. 4, 1962, at the First Baptist Church in Wishek. They made their home in Wishek and he continued to farm until 1997.

He was an avid hunter and trapper and thoroughly enjoyed his time in the outdoors with his friends and relatives up until the day he passed. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wishek.

He is survived by his wife; three brothers, Ben (Emma) Ulmer, Wishek, Clarence (Darlene) Ulmer, Wishek, and George (Jean) Ulmer, Wishek; two sisters, Irene Thurn, Wishek, and Frieda (Bud) Billington, Sun City, Ariz.; four brothers-in-law, Roger Bader, Fargo, Ed Franz, San Jose, Calif., Al Franz, Tucson, Ariz., and Ray Franz, Phoenix; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; five sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Ashley, N.D. -- The funeral for Rudolph 'Rudy' Ulrich, 92, of Ashley will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.

Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Rudolph Ulrich was born March 26, 1908, to George and Katherina (Kranzler) Ulrich on the family homestead 16 miles northeast of Ashley in McIntosh County. This is where he grew up and received his education in Iowa Township Country School. He worked on the family homestead.

He married Ruth Klein on Oct. 15, 1933, in Ashley. They lived and farmed with his family. They purchased the farm in the late 1940s. In 1969, he semi-retired and they moved into Ashley. He worked for several area farmers and businessmen in the Ashley area. In 1976, he retired from work to care for his wife at home. She died Dec. 25, 1982. He entered the Ashley Nursing Home on Feb. 21, 1997.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Sunshine Club.

He was known as the bicycle repairman and for his hand-knitted caps and scarves. He enjoyed making homemade puzzles and playing cards.

Survivors include one son, Edwin (Marcella) Ulrich of Ashley; one daughter, Darlene (Emil) Glaesman of Ashley; one sister, Tillie Leicht of Lodi, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be Howard Mettler of Eureka, Julie Ulrich of Fargo, N.D., and Terry Ulrich, Gary Ulrich, Dennis Ulrich and Lori Blocker, all of Ashley.

John Van Dyke, 85, Jamestown, formerly of Ypsilanti, N.D. , died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Van Dyke was born June 13, 1920, at the family farm in Meadow Lake Township, near Ypsilanti, the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Miedema) Van Dyke. He attended Plano rural school, near Marion, N.D. He married Marie Roorda on Nov. 1, 1945, at the farm home of his sister and brother-in-law, Peter and Hattie DeVries, Marion. They lived on a farm east of Ypsilanti, which they purchased from his father, where they lived until they retired. They moved to Jamestown in July 2001. He was a former member of North Marion Reformed Church and a member of United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed farming, bowling and sporting events.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Darwin (Jill), Minot, N.D., and Duane (Carla), Ypsilanti; five daughters, Gladys (Jim) Ruckle, Bloomington, Minn., Linda (Ken) Kylmanen, Waubun, Minn., Beth (Ron) Tudahl, Post Falls, Idaho, Karen (Dick) Hanson, LaMoure, N.D., and Lavon (Jeff) Veil, Streeter, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank P.; four sisters, Hattie DeVries, Sadie Roorda, Rena Enger and Jeanetta Marra; and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Karissa Winter.

Robert "Bob" Van Dyke, 69, Gackle, N.D., died Monday, May 25, 2009, at Faribault Commons Nursing Home, Faribault, Minn.

Mr. Van Dyke was born June 7, 1939, in Freemont, Mich., the son of Teunis and Ila (Andrews) Van Dyke. He grew up and attended Freemont Public School, Freemont. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and was discharged in 1961. He married Margaret Neva on Feb. 20, 1965, in Chicago, Ill. In 1967, they moved to Jamestown where he drove a truck for Mayer Truck Line. She died Feb. 28, 1988. He retired and in 2006 he entered Gackle Care Center, Gackle. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by a son, Andrew (Janneil), Maricopa, Ariz.; two daughters, Carol (Rick) Gallop, Pueblo, Colo., and Joan Van Dyke, Faribault; a son-in-law, Rob Rowell, Faribault; a brother, William (Lois), Freemont; a sister, Kathryn Hansen, Freemont; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, Kay and Lynda; parents; and a brother, John.

Lois Othellia Barnick was born Sept. 3, 1911 in Mickelson Township near Jud, ND, the daughter of Bill and Oriann (Miracle) Barnick. She was raised on the family farm in Jud, ND and attended school at Millarton, ND, graduating from Millarton High School in 1928. She married Theodore (Babe) Vandeberghe on June 9, 1931 in Jamestown, ND. They lived in Jamestown until 1943 when they bought a farm in Mickelson Township 5 miles northwest of Nortonville, ND. They continued to reside on the farm until March of 1975 when they bought the former Gordon Sperling house in Jud, ND.

Lois was very active in community activities. She was clerk of Mickelson Township for many years, a member of Nortonville Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Ladies Aid, a cook at the Nortonville School, a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, the Jud Senior Citizens, a Jud News reporter and helped at the Jud Cafe. From 1966-1976, she was employed at the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown, ND as an aide.

Survivors include two sons: Theodore (Evelyn), Humboldt, TN; William, Omaha, NE; two daughters: Mary Leifert, Billings, MT; Virginia (Wally) Rode, Jud, ND; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ethel Hanson, Devils Lake, ND and Ilene Wolff, Jud, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons, three brothers and two sisters.

Stella A. Vandeberghe, 96, Mount Calvary, Wis., died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, in Mount Calvary.

Stella Amelia Barnick was born June 30, 1908, in Buffalo Lake, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Anna (Steinborn) Barnick. She moved with her family to North Dakota in 1912 where she grew up in the Jud, N.D., and Millarton , N.D., areas. She graduated from Millarton High School in 1926. She married John H. Vandeberghe on Dec. 17, 1926, in Dickey, N.D. They farmed in the Millarton area. They moved to Oregon during World War II where she was a welder in the ship yards. After the war, they returned to North Dakota where they farmed in the Millarton and Cleveland, N.D., areas until retirement in 1962 when they moved to Oregon. In 1978, they returned to Gackle, N.D. She entered the Villa Loretto Nursing Home, Mount Calvary, in 1992. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Gackle.

She is survived by six daughters, Virginia Rixen, Fond Du Lac, Wis., Sister Mary Theresa “Irene,” Mount Calvary, Valeria (Ted) Heath, Salina, Utah, Patricia Purcell, Lincoln City, Ore., Elaine Wagner, Silver Lake, Ore., and Theresa (Bob) Ferguson, Cathlamet, Wash.; three sons, John L. (Marge) and Jerry, both Cleveland, and Thomas (Kathy), Gackle; 35 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Archie and Harvey; a grandson, Vernon; and a great-grandson, Anthony.

Thomas Vandeberghe, 64, Gackle, N.D., died Dec. 29, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Vandeberghe was born Sept. 21, 1943, at Oregon City, Ore., the son of John H. and Stella (Barnick) Vandeberghe. He attended school near Cleveland and Millarton, N.D., and received his GED in Jamestown.

He married Kathy Rude on Oct. 30, 1964, at Jamestown. They made their home on a farm south of Cleveland until 1975 when they bought the Melvin Mayer Farm southeast of Streeter, N.D. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, the Streeter Co-op Board and a lobbyist, spokesman and board member of the Central Grassland Research Station, Streeter.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Mark (Becky), Carpenter, Wyo., and Paul (Lori), Cleveland; two brothers, John L. (Marge), Cleveland, and Jerry (Carol), Milwaukie, Ore.; six sisters, Virginia Rixen, Fond Du Lac, Wis., Sister Mary Theresa (born Irene Vanderberghe), Mount Calvary, Wis., Valeria (Ted) Heath, Salina, Utah, Patricia Purcell, Lincoln City, Ore., Elaine (Mark) Hammond, Silver Lake, Ore., and Theresa (Bob) Ferguson, Woodburn, Ore.; and five grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. Russ Pollock officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.

Candice Vass, 48, Jamestown, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Candice Sue Kreil was born Aug. 4, 1955, in Jamestown, the daughter of Ruben and Elsie (Lang) Kreil. She grew up and attended high school in Jamestown, completing her GED and one year of college. She married in 1971. She worked for The Jamestown Sun, North Dakota State Hospital and Kmart for many years. She enjoyed crafts and computers.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Stephen) Leuchtman and Christy Vass, both Jamestown, and a brother, Rick (Shawn), Fargo, N.D.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.

Emelia Veil, 97, Jamestown, N.D., formerly Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Emelia Zenker was born Sept. 10, 1904, in Logan County, North Dakota, the daughter of Wilhelm and Fredericka (Klipfel) Zenker. She attended the local rural school and grew up there, where she helped on the family farm. She married Jacob Muller Jr. on Dec. 9, 1924, at the Neudorf Lutheran Church near Gackle. They farmed southwest of Gackle until 1953 when they moved into Gackle. He died July 3, 1962. She remained in Gackle and cooked at the Gackle Health Care Center. She married Jacob Veil Jr. on May 28, 1967. They lived in Gackle. He died Nov. 13, 1990. She moved into the Gackle Care Center on Jan. 27, 1998, and to Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center on May 12, 2000. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Ruth Circle and the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting and making German food.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Edna (Alvin) Mertz, Dawson, N.D., and Loretta (Ralph) Fiechtner, Jamestown; three sisters, Emma Miller and Alida Remboldt, both Gackle, and Mathilda (David) Hewett, Elk Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a daughter, Esther; a stepdaughter, Hertha Rau; four brothers, three sisters and a grandchild.

Services: 10:30 a.m. today, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. David Winterfeldt officiating.
Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.

Ila Wolfe Veil, 83, Lemmon, S.D., died May 14, 1999, in Daytona Beach, Fla. Services will be 11 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lemmon. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Fiero, Daytona Beach; one son, Allen Wolfe, Mandeville, La.; and her sisters, Ethel Outka, Hettinger, and Vera Holdahl, Lemmon. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

Mrs. Katie Veil, 94, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday July 4, 2007 in the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Katie Siegle was born March 22, 1913 at Neudorf South Russia, the daughter of Fred Siegle, Sr. and Caroline Morlock. She immigrated to the United States and settled on a farm near Medina, ND. She received her elementary education in Medina and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and Otto T. Veil were married August 16, 1936 at St. Peters Lutheran Church SW of Medina, ND. They farmed south of Streeter from 1936 until 1964 when they moved into Jamestown, ND. Otto passed away April 22, 1968. She continued to live in Jamestown and worked for White Drug and for Ebertz Laundry from 1967 to 1982 when she retired. In 2003 she moved to Streeter and entered Hi-Acres Manor at Jamestown in 2006.

She is survived by her family, Darlene (Gordon) Gumke, Streeter, ND, Glenn (Sheila) Veil, Vancouver, WA, Debra (Skip) Jordan, Hemet, CA, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one sister Marie Meidinger, Lodi, Ca and one daughter-in-law, Bernice Veil, Arvada, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, four brothers and five sisters.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday July 10, 2007 in the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Doug Opp, officiating.

Kenneth “Clyde” Veil, 60, Lancaster, CA , died October 6, 2005 at his home in Lancaster, CA.

Kenneth Veil was born March 5, 1945 in Streeter, ND, the son of Willie T. Veil and Luella (Kautz) Veil. He received his elementary education at the local rural school and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963. He helped on the family farm and also worked at the Palace Café as a waiter and grew to manhood in the vicinity.

He entered the US Air Force in 1963 in Jamestown, ND. He was stationed in Grand Forks, ND for 3 years and Southeast Asia for 1 year before he was honorably discharged in 1967 with the rank of Airman 1st Class.

He and Betty Stroh were married June of 1963. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND where he was in the Air Force. Following his discharge in 1967 he moved to Colorado Springs, CO where he worked for Denver Equipment.

In 1969 he and Linda Richards were married and they made their home in Seattle, WA where he worked as a flight line mechanic for Boeing for 4 years.

In 1973 they moved to Lancaster CA where he worked as a flight line mechanic for Lockhead for 32 years.

He and Emily Bloom were married September of 2001 and continued to reside in Lancaster, CA.

He is survived by his children, Clyde “Allen” (Pauline) Veil, Lancaster, CA; Heidi (Frank) Arcidiacona, Lancaster, CA; 1 step daughter, Kimberly Richards, Lancaster, CA; 1 step son, William Richards, Lancaster, CA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Duane (Delores) Veil, Colorado Springs, CO; Jerry (Dorothy) Veil, Birmingham, AL; Curtis (Violet) Veil, McCalla, AL; 2 sisters, Jackie (Gene Vermillian) Guinn, Las Vegas, NV; Luann (Randy) Wegner, Tallahassee, FL.

Memorial services were held on October 14, 2005 at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Palmdale, CA.

Roger Veil, 71, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Washington, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, of a stroke in Desert Hot Springs.

Mr. Veil was born Oct. 25, 1939, on a farm south of Streeter, N.D., the son of Emma and Phillip Veil. He graduated from Jamestown High School and entered the U.S. Army. He was a crane operator in Seattle, Wash. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a sister, Florence Willey, Jamestown; and two brothers, Reuben, Round Rock, Texas, and Harry, Ypsilanti, N.D.

Todd Veil, 34, Bismarck, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Fairview University Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Mr. Veil was born June 2, 1968, in Jamestown, the son of Henry and Marcene (Buerkle) Veil. He received his elementary education in Gackle, N.D., graduating from Gackle High School in 1986. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, graduating in 1991 with a degree in machine tooling. He worked at Wishek Steel, Wishek, N.D., until 1993 when he moved to Bismarck and worked for L&H Manufacturing in Mandan, N.D. In 1996 he moved to Fargo and worked for Case for a short time before returning in May 1997 to L&H Manufacturing. He married Dawn Schmidt on June 12, 1999, at Gackle. He was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and the National Rifle Association. He was a conservative Republican and a devoted listener of the Rush Limbaugh radio program.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Landen, Bismarck; his parents, Jamestown; a brother, Brian, Phoenix, Ariz.; and his grandmother, Alma Buerkle, Gackle.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. Ray Heidtke officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. today at the church.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.

June Schlenker Venn, 61, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, after a battle with cancer.

June Evonne Schlenker was born June 13, 1944, at the family farm near Jud, N.D., the daughter of Theodore and Anna Schlenker. At an early age, she moved with her parents to a farm one mile west of Alfred, N.D. She graduated from high school in 1962. She married Donald Palmer Venn on Nov. 27, 1969. She was employed with Gate City Bank, Fargo, for 32 years, serving as assistant to the president. She retired in December 2001. She enjoyed traveling, sightseeing and visiting.

She is survived by her husband; a brother, Albin E. (Clara), Alfred; a sister, Patricia Schlenker Lahr ( Gary ), Bismarck; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Motteberg, Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Services: 11 a.m. today, First Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Visitation: one hour before the services at the church. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Graveside service: Alfred Church of God Seventh Day Cemetery.

John Henry Visto, 82, Guelph, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, in Oakes (N.D.) Community Hospital.

Mr. Visto was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Gackle, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He moved in 1930 with his family to the Ludden, N.D., area. He farmed in the Guelph area. On Feb. 19, 1941, he married Marjorie Claeys in Oakes. They continued to farm near Guelph until the time of his death. They had spent the winter months in Texas for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marshell (Mona) and Marvin (Jane), both Guelph; two daughters, Diane (Wes) Orr, Ennis Mont., Edith (Jim) Davis, El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Everett, Salem, Ore., Ernest (Darlene), Christine, ...

Daniel C. "Dan" Voegele, 77, Bismarck, died March 8, 2004 in a Bismarck hospital.

Daniel Christ Voegele was born May 23, 1926 at Glen Ullin, the son of Jacob B. and Christiana (Ritter) Voegele. He was educated in country schools in the Glen Ullin area. On February 24, 1951, Dan entered the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was discharged February 28, 1953. On November 20, 1953, Dan and Alice Dockter were married at Streeter, and they began farming in that area. In 1965 they bought a farm 14 miles northeast of Bismarck.

The funeral for Rachel Voegele, 67, Jamestown, N.D., will be at 2 Tuesday in Jamestown Evangelical Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 Sunday, from 9 to 9 Monday, with a prayer service at 7, and from 9 to noon Tuesday, in Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown. She died Friday, May 3, 1996.

Rachel Weixel was born Aug. 8, 1928, near Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She later moved to Jamestown with her family. She married John Voegele Jan. 11, 1962, in Jamestown, where they lived. She worked for Bethel Four Acres and Gladstone Hotel, both Jamestown. He died in 1968.

She is survived by four brothers, Rev. Elroy (Harriet), Jerome, Idaho, Reinhardt (Margaret), San Bernadino, Calif., Alvin (Ester) and Robert ...

The funeral for Lawrence H. Vogel, 75, Kulm , ND will be Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Assembly of God Church in Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Kulm, ND. Burial will be at Kulm Congregational Cemetery in Kulm.

Lawrence, son of Fred and Edna (Radke) Vogel, was born January 24, 1930 on a farm NW of Fredonia, ND in Logan County. He received his elementary education in Logan, LaMoure and McIntosh counties. Lawrence was united in marriage to Shirley Krueger on June 19, 1955 in Kulm, ND. They farmed six miles SW of Kulm from 1955 until 1984 when they moved into Kulm where they are presently residing. Lawrence loved hunting and fishing. He was a Rod and Gun Club member, Kulm Lions Club member for 11 years, Elks member for 31 years, and served on the Kulm Elevator Board for 20 years. He was a conservationist and also raised Canadian geese. They loved to travel and he enjoyed meeting and visiting with people along the way. Lawrence will always be remembered for his honesty and his love for his family.

Lawrence died September 29, 2005 at his home under Hospice Care. He was 75 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, three sons; Glenn (Marie) Vogel, Kulm, ND, Curtis (Dawn) Vogel, Montreal, WI, Perry (Sheryl) Vogel, Grand Forks, ND, one daughter; Julianne Surwald, Wright, WY, his mother, Edna Vogel, Edgeley, ND, three brothers; Ervin (Rosemarie) Vogel, Wichita, KS, Lloyd Vogel, Guadalajara, Mexico, Morris (Katy) Vogel, Littleton, CO, two sisters; Lillian (Rueben) Junkert, Jamestown, ND, Marcella Vogel, Minneapolis, MN, nine grandchildren, Kati Vogel, Michelle Vogel, Julae (Randy) Himle, Joe Surwald, Krista Vogel, Jacey Vogel, Tyler Vogel, Tanner Vogel and Kyle Holter Vogel.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his father, Fred, one son; Murray.
