* Our townsman,
Geo. Elhard, has no difficulty these days in stepping over our highest snow
banks. He makes them all on "high", too, and wears a smile from
ear to ear. This seemed unusual and we thought there must be some good
reason. We sent Scoop on the job and in a few hours discovered that the
stork arrived at his home Monday leaving a big bouncing baby boy. All
concerned are reported doing nicely. We're waiting for that cigar, George.

2 MAR 1917 - Gackle's
New Butcher
* Just before
going to press the city editor rushes into the office with a very
interesting piece of news concerning the arrival Thursday, March 1st, of a
new butcher at the Joe Frey market, who, though yet a stranger, is bound to
figure strongly in the great success of this enterprise. As the new fellow
only weighs nine pounds it will be some time before he will be able to take
an active part in the business.

* Isaac Halberg
is one of the happiest men in the world today. Last fall he reaped a
fortune from his flax crop and not many days ago he received unexpectedly a
check from the company for $125.00, his share of the dividends regulated by
the adoption of the profit sharing plan. But the climax of all blessings
occurred on Washington's birthday anniversary, Feb. 22, when the stork made
a visit to the Halberg home and left a little bunch of femininity. This is
reason enough why Isaac would be subject to gout by the arrival of spring.
[See 9 Mar 1917, parents should be J. W. Isaacs]
9 MAR 1917
* We got the
name of Isaac Halberg mixed with that of J. W. Isaacs in our announcement
of a birth at the home of the former in last week's paper. It should have
read a girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Isaacs on Feb. 22nd. J. W. is
about the proudest daddy in Gackle and a true patriot.

* Our local
depot agent A. G. Wilk is anything but grouchy or unpleasant now days. His
smile is like that of a man who is suddenly informed that a friend of his
has just wired him a fortune of $1,000,000. No doubt to reason for his
unusual pleasant countenance would equal a $1,000,000 fortune or more, when
we tell you he is papa to a fine looking eight and one half pound baby
girl, born to him and his better half Tuesday evening. Everybody is
reported doing fine.
4 MAY 1917
* According to
official reports a new blacksmith has been added to the force of workmen
now employed by Fred Weisfenning. Mr. Weisfenning now has four blacksmiths,
as the latest arrived at the Weisfenning home Monday morning and was
reported to be a healthy aspicant to the anvil force. Where's the cigar,
Fred?
