John CAWTHORN
John CAWTHORN ~ once lost and now found
20 June 2001 - Last seen on the 1851 UK Census, I have lost track of the following cousins - Joseph CAWTHORN,
bp 1825, Emneth St Edmund's & John CAWTHORN, bp 1832, Upwell St Peter's.
They are both nephews of my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, Joseph CAWTHORN landlord of "The Chequers"
Public House, Lot's Bridge, Three Holes, Upwell on the 1851 UK Census.

Well, it looks like we've found John Cawthorn - thanks in part to one of his descendants getting
in touch and research done some time ago by my cousin Leon in Australia; and in part to me finding
a box of papers that had been stored away after our last house move some 8-9 years ago!
It appears that after the 1851 England Census, John moved up to Newcastle-upon-Tyne - possibly
for work reasons - where he met Isabella Brown.
They were married in the Parish Church in the Parish of St. John, Newcastle-upon-Tyne on
Christmas Day, 1856. John's occupation was given as Miller.
By the time of the 1861 England Census, they have 2 young daughters, Martha & Sarah Isabel.

John passed away in the June Qtr, 1906 in Birkenhead aged 74 years.
I gather the main reason why we initially lost John after the 1851 England Census was the transcription
miss-spellings of Cawthorn - CARTHAN & CAWTHORA - it seems Ancestry still haven't corrected their transcriptions.
My thanks, once again to David Badger, **Amy Cawthorn's gt gt grandson and also to Leon Roberts, Australia for
his detailed research all those years ago.
John's parents, John & Sarah
