A. CAWTHORN, Bombardier, Royal Artillery, Boer War

A.CAWTHORN, Bombardier, Royal Artillery
The Anglo-Boer War 11 October 1899
- 31 May 1902

Ely Cathedral has a Boer War Memorial Brass Plaque and amongst those listed are:

           "A. Cawthorn-Bombardier-Royal Artillery-1899-1902"

Via the Boer War Mailing List, I have managed to find out the following:

"17623 Bombardier A. Cawthorn, Royal Field Artillery, died of disease on 19 April, 1902,
at Elandsfontein, while serving with the the 27th Mounted Infantry".

Apparently, it will be very difficult to find out more because Soldier's Papers were destroyed during
the Boer War period when a soldier died.

But IS he one of my CAWTHORNS, as I do have a few loose ends to tie up!
