When I began my family history research back in 1999, there wasn't the plethora of information available online as there is now. But by chance, I found the Fens, Cambridgeshire & Norfolk Rootsweb Mailing Lists which were an enormous help with my initial research queries. Then of course there were the LDS 1851 Norfolk Sample Census CD and the full 1881 Census Transcription CDS ... I had to visit the Records Office in Shrewsbury to use the GRO BMD Indexes, the Wisbech & Fenland Museum to search original Parish Registers as well as the Cambridgeshire Archives in Shire Hall, Cambridge. Just as well that I was able to visit my parents - who still lived in the Fens at the time - every 2-3 months! BUT most important of all was to join the Cambridgeshire Family History Society who were just beginning to organise transcriptions of original Parish Registers and local Census Records held at the Archives in Shire Hall, Cambridge. In the early days, these transcriptions were published on microfiche, so before I bought a Fiche Reader off eBay in 2002, I was able to use the fiche readers at my local library and print off very bad copies of the information I needed. Now surplus to requirements, the following fiche are now listed for sale on eBid UK ** PLEASE NOTE: ALL fiche relate to Cambridgeshire and the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk border. 1841 England Census ~ Burwell | Downham & Welches Dam | Upwell - Cambs & Norfolk | Welney 1851 England Census ~ Downham | Elm | Fordham | Manea | March | Outwell | Parsons Drove | Upwell (Cambs) | Upwell (Norfolk) Welches Dam | Welney (Cambs) | Wimblington | Wisbech | Wisbech St. Mary 1861 England Census ~ Burwell 1883 ~ Kelly's Directory of Cambridgeshire ~ Published by MacBeth, Hampton, Victoria, Australia.
