"Three Holes - Portrait of a Fenland Village"

Three Holes - portrait of a Fenland Village
"Three Holes, Portrait of a Fen village", published in March this year [2003], was compiled by Anne Jackson [in Australia], along with Audrey Carnson and Rita Cuss from the local Acorn Club in Three Holes. It is a 64pp. local history of Three Holes in the Fens and was launched by Mike Petty from Cambridge. It includes an introduction on ancient history of the area and the drainage, and chapters include farming, shops and services, church and chapel, pubs, Three Holes in wartime, local events (such as the Jubilee parade in the village in 1936), sports, the Women's Institute and the Acorn Club. It has over 50 old photographs of the area and people. They put the book together from Anne's family history research, and a village day held to celebrate the Millennium year, when there were talks about local history and residents brought photographs and memorabilia. When the book was launched there was so much interest that Anne is now compiling the next edition! Anne is also working on a website to promote the book and Three Holes further, but time being what it is.................... - so I have put this page together for her in the meantime.
