William & Maria PALMER

William & Maria PALMER

William PALMER, 8th child and 5th son of Stephen & Maria, was born abt 1826. He was given the
same name as his immediate elder brother who'd died in 1825 at less than a year old.
He was baptised on 8 January 1826 at St. Mary's Church, Burwell.

On the 1841 U.K. Census, William was 15 years old, living at home with his parents in North St., Burwell.
        His occupation was "Agricultural Labourer".

On 15 April 1852, William stated his intention to marry Maria Brown - this is recorded in the
"Intention to Marry Register" held at the C.R.O. in Cambridge - and discovered, after much sleuthing,
by Renee PENNINGTON, William & Maria's gt gt grand daughter in August 2002.

William married Maria Brown in abt April/May 1852, possibly at the Register Office in either
Cambridge or Newmarket as Maria was 7 months pregnant with their 1st child, Delphina!
We THINK [Renee & I] that we have found their marriage registration, but neither of us
have sent off for it yet!

William and Maria had 9 children:

Delphena born 30 June 1852 baptised 5 September 1852 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
William born 9 October 1854 baptised 28 May 1855 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
Louis born 10 April 1856 baptised 12 May 1856 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
Stephen born abt 1859 baptised 28 June 1863 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
Henry born abt 1861 baptised . .
Amelia born abt 1863 baptised 28 June 1863 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
Frederick born abt 1865 baptised . .
George born abt 1867 baptised 7 January 1868 @ St. Mary's, Burwell
Alfred Edward born Mar Qtr 1872 baptised . .
My thanks to Renee, again, for all the above baptism dates, culled from the Burwell Parish Registers held at the C.R.O., Shire Hall, Cambridge. Now released in transcript form on CD by C.F.H.S.!]

William & Maria both died under the age of 44 in 1872; Alfred the baby was only 6 weeks old when his mother died; William died 9 months later. I assume that they are both buried in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.
