2004 PALMER Family Gathering - REPORT
PALMER Family Gathering - October 2004 - Report
On Saturday, 9 October 2004, the 3rd gathering of the Descendants of Emmanuel & Susannah PALMER
took place at the Rose & Crown Hotel, in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
We again also welcomed descendants of Emmanuel's brother, William, who took his family to Lancashire in about 1868.
In all, there were about 43 PALMER cousins and spouses - and as always, the "chat" level was deafening!
Maria - Jean & Roy MATTHEWS; Derek KETTERINGHAM; Valerie DeSilva KETTERINGHAM;
Christine CUNNINGHAM; James DeSilva CUNNINGHAM
Emmanuel - Jim AMOS.
Louis Henry - Roy & Mary PALMER; + me.
Lapauldro - Susan WEBB; Pam & Michael HARTLEY; Lola & Ronald BURGESS; Wendy MACK; Ray FARR;
Gilian KIRMAN; Jane HINCHLIFFE; Carl HINCHLIFFE & Michelle JACQUES;

Karen ADAMSON with baby Callum, our newest PALMER twig at 13 weeks old.
And not forgetting the Lancashire connection: Carole PALMER & Mike BRIGGS.
This year we were honoured by the company of "Vivien" a 1931 Leyland Lioness Fire Engine which served at
Wisbech Fire Station from 1931 - 1963. Vivien has many PALMER connections in that Henry O. PALMER
& Albert Alonzo PALMER were both members of Wisbech Fire Brigade during that time - there is a small picture
below of Wisbech Fire Brigade in 1937. More pictures of "Vivien" can be found here

Vivien has been fully restored over the past 3 years, and a Trust Fund has now been set up to help maintain
the upkeep and running costs.

We welcomed many new PALMER cousins this year, all very eager to find out about their PALMER history and to
pass on new information about PALMER connections - much new information came to light as a result.
I had updated the large-scale family tree charts that I made for last year -and still managed to leave
a few people off - but a few pencils soon remedied that.
The local paper - the "Wisbech Standard", helped to publicise the event and our group picture - with Vivien
and George Dunlop- was in last weekend's paper!
And to end a lovely day, Sue had made and iced a "PALMER" cake for us - it was delicious.
SO, if you're a descendant of Emmanuel & Susannah PALMER of Burwell, Methwold & Wisbech and I don't know
about you yet, just use the e-mail link below to get in touch as there are quite a few of you out there!
PLUS, I am still looking for the PALMER/DAWSON link in St. Ives and the WEATHERSTON/PALMER connection
from South Shields [more details on relevant webpages]
