Marear/Miria/Marer DeSilva PALMER
Marear/Miria/Marer DeSilva PALMER
Marear DeSilva, 1st child of Emmanuel and Emma was born in 1875, in Methwold, Norfolk.
She was baptised at All Saints' Church, Hilgay on 15 August 1875.
On the 1881 Census, Marear is 6 years old - but her name is spelt as "Marcrear".
By the time of the 1891, she is "Marie" and 15 years old; but I could find no trace of her originally
on the Online 1901 England Census.
To digress little, I did find an Ethelinda PALMER, aged 2, on the 1901 Online UK Census. living with
her "parents", [my quotation marks] Emmanuel [2] and Emma PALMER in Wisbech. The Census also noted
her place of birth as Marylebone, London - which I thought was a bit odd at the time.
After receiving a copy of Ethelinda's birth certificate, all is revealed - she was born on 30 April 1899,
in the Marylebone Workhouse to Marer DySilva PALMER, Tobacconist's Assistant
of 35 Fitzroy Street, Fitzroy Square.
Marear registered her daughter's birth, but no father's name is entered on the certificate.
She would have been 24 years old at the time.
April 2005 - after viewing the 1901 England Census again, but this time on Ancestry.co.uk, I have at last found Maria:

October 2006 - At our recent PALMER Family Gathering in Upwell, Cambridgeshire, some old family photos
dating from the time of WW1 were brought along as Len, aged 95, had no idea who they were.
These photos turned out to be of Marer and her family in Bulawayo & Umtali in what was then Southern Rhodesia
Marear/Marer had sent these photos regularly to her sister, Susie, who was Len's mother.
Go **HERE** for a picture of Marer & Ethel at Christmas 1910 in Bulawayo + others here.
Don't know yet if Marer married Tom [surname unknown] before they emigrated, but her daughter
Ethelinda also went out to Bulawayo - and she apparently had a daughter, Ellen, in July 1918.
My cousin has all Len's photos to scan, as there are MANY messages on the back which I didn't get time to
photograph on the day - being the organiser, I was here, there & everywhere.
