John SCOTT & Sarah SAVAGE
John SCOTT, elder son of John & Elizabeth SCOTT of Welney, was baptised on
25 April 1813 at St Mary's Church, Welney, Norfolk.
On 10 April 1839, at the age of 26, he married Sarah, daughter of William and Sarah SAVAGE of Parsons Drove,
at St Peter's Church, Upwell, "in the county of Norfolk & Isle of Ely".
John's sister, Sarah, was one of the witnesses.

On the 1841 U.K. Census, John & Sarah are living Tips End, between Christchurch [or Brimstone Hill
as it was called then] and Lakesend.

I have been searching on the 1851 U.K. Census for a SCOTT family, John & Sarah with their 2 sons, John bn 1841 and
Jesse, bn 1846. Despite looking at both Upwell - Cambs and Upwell - Norfolk, I couldn't find them. So I went back to
the index - again! - and found a SCOT listing, and there they were, where they should be, at Halfpenny Toll, between
Christchurch & Lots Bridge.

For the 1861 U.K. Census, I haven't as yet got an exact reference, other than "Farm House"! But next time

On the 1881 U.K. Census, John & Sarah are living on High Road, Upwell, Norfolk - but again I'm not sure
if this is the High Road between Christchurch and Lot's bridge, along the Halfpenny Toll; or the road from Three
Holes down to Lot's Bridge.

John SCOTT died 28 April 1900. aged 88 years
Sarah SCOTT died 28 April 1908 - effect of grandson, Walter's desertion? but she was 91 years of age.
May 2006 - By sheer coincidence, have discovered John & Sarah's headstone - at St. Peter's Upwell;
so not at Welney or Christchurch or the Baptist Chapel, Upwell as at first thought.
