Of Providence and East Greenwich, in 1652 he was General Sergeant, andhe was made a freeman in 1655, and again in 1656. He was commissionerin 1657, member of the Grand Jury in 1661, and took the oath ofalleghiance May 31, 1666. He was deputy in 1668-74-78.Samuel moved toGreenwich, RI before 1658 where he served as a member of the RhodeIsland General Court for 10 years. He was a cooper/barrelmaker.
He served as a member of the militia in King Phillip's War (1675- )and was subsequently given 100 acres of public land for his service inthat war.
Edward's eldest son, Samuel was born in 1628 in England. As he grewolder he became a cooper and resided in Greenwich, Rhode Island. Therecords there indicate that in 1652 he purchased land; in 1655 he wasmade a Freeman; in 1656 he was made a sergeant of Militia "for whichhe received 20 pounds"; in 1678 he [was] voted 100 acres of publiclands; in 1682 he sold 34 acres; and in 1684 his will was proved andby the terms of this will Samuel, Jr. received 60 acres of land
