Family memory is that Nathaniel was the son of Abraham and SilenceHickox Bennett. He reputedly married Mercy Wanzer, the sister ofJerusha Wanzer who married Nathaniel's brother, Abraham Jr. Aftersiring a family, according to the story, Nathaniel walked off into themists and left Mercy to raise the children, Daniel being the youngestby quite a bit. Mercy died not too long after this, leaving Daniel tobe raised by his double aunt and uncle, Abraham and Jerusha. Someyears later, Nathaniel is supposed to have returned saying he had goneback to Connecticut, married again and had another family
