I am g-granddaughter of Christopher and Martha S. "Mattie" (Owens) Wiggins; and granddaughter of Della Mae (Wiggins) Creel. My thanks to living grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the Wiggins, Crenshaw, and Creel, Creal and Dearman families; Mrs. (Wiggins) Adams, Maxine Wiggins, and Helen Wiggins (daughters of Walter Wiggins); Couson: Johnny Howell; Wiggins genealogist Cindy Patterson; Leander Crenshaw-Trehern; Marliyn Mathrews; and Choctaw County, AL Court House & Mobile County Court House for their help and kindness.

Updated - Aug 2007 -  with "Wiggins Family History" from the "Family Bible Records" of Mrs. Della M. (Wiggins) Creel sent from her grandson Johnny Howell, son of Ruth Creel Howell.

All added material from "Bible Records" will be highlighted in blue.

(Comments from Della: The Family Bible is dated 1826. Della Mae (Wiggins) Creel  indicated that she was told by her grandfather, John T. Wiggins, that the Wiggins family came "through Mobile from Florida" and were of "Scotch-Irish" descent. She also stated that there were Irish in the family with a number of "red-haired" family members. She reported coming to the Mobile area from Butler, Choctaw County, AL. As a girl in 1907-08 or perhaps 1910-12. She was unsure of the dates.

John Pittman T. Wiggins, b May 3, 1815/1817, d Oct 26, 1905, 90 years old, AL, m Oct 1848 AL.

Son of: John T. Wiggins & Isabell Sparks

(Comments from Della:  stated that her grandfather, John T. Wiggins, was a Sargent in the 'Confederate States of America Army' and reported to be the highest ranking "officer" left to return from his outfit at the end of the Civil War. She reported having, but losing, a paper signed by him, stating he acknowledged the Emancipation Proclamation and the freeing of the slaves. This was required of him by Union forces as the leader of highest rank).  b. 1815,  d. 10-26-1905 or 07 aged 90 years 5 months and 24 days. (Note: Birthdate may indicate death date of 1905). Married on 29 of October 1848 to Delilie (Delilah?) Strickland (Strickling?). (Note: It was difficult to read first and last name).

...................... John Gary WIGGINS
(Comment from Della: Gary was an easy-going and humorous man who was planning on going into the ministry. He went to fight in France in the Army during World War I. She understood he had an appendectomy and received too much ether (anasthesia) although it was said he was perhaps "shell-shocked". He had "blank spots" and would "forget family" which she attributed to the ether overdose. He was sent to the VA
Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas where he resided the rest of his life for roughly fifty years. He died in the mid-1970s. She never saw him there, stating it was too hard for her to bear seeing him. She wrote letters to him, however, and wanted to think of him as he was before the war. She expressed a fondness for him. Note: I personally recall hearing of Uncle Hardy and Aunt Opal visiting Uncle Gary at the VA Hospital in Little Rock.
