CHARLES DOBIE : LOCAL HISTORY NORTHERN EMPIRE GOLD MINE, ONTARIO
Northern Empire Mine, Ontario, late 1930s
These photos are from my parents' collection. Two are dated May 1939, and the others must have been taken around
the same time. My parents moved from Empire to the Magnet Mine townsite about 1941.
A general view of the Northern Empire Mine.
Northern Empire Mine headframe.
My aunt Cathryn Carlson (my mother's sister) who was visiting my parents from Minneapolis.
This photo was dated by my grandmother as May 1939. That's her in the center and my mother at the right-hand edge.
Buildings in the townsite. The log cabin in front is identified as the doctor's house, and the next one was my parents'.
My parents -- my mother was picking violets behind the doctor's cabin. Photo is dated May 1, 1939.
My parents, William and Margaret Dobie with part of the townsite behind. Photo taken the same time as the one above.
My aunt Cathryn Carlson and my mother Margaret (Carlson) Dobie with two gold bricks.
Unfortunately they weren't allowed to keep them.
These are identified as the school and post office. The school must be on the right.
