EMMA BATEMENT GAINES

Emma B. Bateman was born May 8, 1848, in Dover, Delaware(1) and died July 25, 1932, in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois. Emma was the second child of Ira and Ann Christy Bateman. She came to Cass County, Illinois, in 1855. On December 27, 1866, Emma married Preston Franklin Gaines in Shelby County, Illinois(1). Preston was born July 24, 1832, in Granger County, Tennessee and died March 13, 1897, in Cass County, Illinois. He served in the Civil War in Co. E,Regular 101st Infantry from Illinois (see history of 101st). Preston was a farmer. Emma and Preston are buried at Walnut Ridge cemetery in Cass County, Illinois. Emma belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Arenzville, Cass County, Illinois, but later went to church in Virginia, Illinois.

Emma and Preston Gaines had four children:

1.2.1 Minnie Ann (1868-1933) was born December 29, 1868, in Pana, Christian County, Illinois, and died December 28, 1933, in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois. She is buried at Walnut Ridge cemetery, Cass County, Illinois. She married Joseph B. Treadway on June 20, 1888, in Cass County, Illinois. He was the son of William T. and Mary McHenry Treadway. Joseph was in the agricultural business.

1.2.2 Mary Ruth "Mollie" (1870-1942) was born February 14, 1870, in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois. She died November 6, 1942, in Cass County, Illinois. Mollie married Jefferson V. Treadway (brother to Joseph B. who married her sister) on October 16, 1890, in Cass County, Illinois. He was born July 30, 1863, in Cass County, Illinois, and died in 1939. He was a farmer and also ran a meat market. Jeff and Mollie were Presbyterian, and she was a member of Eastern Star. Jefferson's biographical sketch. Jeff & Mollie are buried at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, Illinois.

Mollie and Jeff Treadway had one child:

1.2.2.1 Mary E. born November 26, 1896.

1.2.3 Ira Franklin (1872-) was born about 1872. He married Addie C. King on March 10, 1897, in Cass County, Illinois. He was an operator according to a letter from his mother, but I don't know what he operated. Ira died November 16, 1950, in Morgan County, Illinois.

1.2.4 Lawrence Burdett (1880-1933) was born July 6, 1880, in Cass County, Illinois and died September 23, 1933, in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois. He is buried at Walnut Ridge cemetery, Cass County, Illinois. He was a farmer and also an agent for the C. P. and St. Louis railroad. Lawrence belonged to the Methodist church. On Christmas Day 1902 he married Clara Belle Wyatt in Cass County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Fenton and Alice (Carver) Wyatt. She was born 1880 and died 1951. After Lawrence's death she married a man named Bristow and later married Carroll Milan Rose who lived in Bondurant, Iowa. Clara died in 1951.

Lawrence and Clara Gaines one son.

1.2.4.1 Farrell lived at Carthage, Illinois.
