Descendants of Allen Helms: Third Generation 19. William A.3 HELMS (Milus2, Allen1)(4) was born in Talbot County, Ga. 16 MAR 1846 or MAY 1847 William died 8 AUG 1900 at 54 years of age.

He married Sarah Frances BOSWELL Helms 1868, possibly as early as 1856.

Fannie was born in Georgia 9 OCT 1848; birth year also listed as 1844 and 1850.

Fannie died 6 MAR 1936 at 87 years of age and was buried by W.L. Helms, according to Stephens Funeral Home records.

Fannie was on the pension list of Judge J.E.F. Matthews (Upson County) in the 1910s, indicating William A. fought in the Civil War. There is no record of him in the Confederate Roster Of Georgia.

Fannie had a sister, also living with her son Hardy in 1900: Rebecca Boswell, b. Oct. 1859 in Ga., 40, single, had no occupation, parents born in Georgia.

William was the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Upson County, Ga. In addition to the children listed below, his household included Noah McKay, 16, b. 1864 in Ga., relation unrecorded.

child 36 iv. Rebecca L. HELMS Grant was born in Georgia 9 OCT 1873. Rebecca died 22 SEP 1940 at 66 years of age. She married Sidney GRANT in Upson County, Ga., 23 JUL 1891. Sidney died 24 DEC 1942.

child + 37 v. Nettie Jane HELMS Salter was born 13 MAR 1876.

child + 38 vi. Louise Estelle HELMS McFarlin was born 27 SEP 1878.

child + 39 vii. James Matthew HELMS was born 28 JUL 1879.

child + 40 viii. Fletcher Octavia HELMS Salter was born 17 OCT 1879.

child + 41 ix. Walter Lathel HELMS sr was born 4 AUG 1885.

child + 42 x. Mattie Fannie HELMS Grant was born 16 FEB 1889.

Another child was born but died young (10 living out of 11, according to the 1900 census).
