15. Michael Jack5 FORCE (Hugh Lamar4, Reginald Hiralda3, Albert Washington2, Hannah1 MOORE) was born in Upson County, Ga. 16 JAN 1938. Mickey died 23 APR 1964 in The Rock, Upson County, Ga., at 26 years of age.(4) His body was interred 25 APR 1964 in Griffin, Spalding County, Ga., Oak Hill Cemetery. Lot 43, Section B; Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home; Rev. J.B. Godfrey officiated.

He graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga., 7 MAY 1962. Mickey attended R.E. Lee from Sept. 1953 to April 1955, giving him nine years of education plus 8 months in the 10th grade. After leaving active service for the reserves, Mickey returned to high school in 1960.

Mickey was an assistant manager in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga., in APR 1964, with M. F. Elliott Lumber Company. He died on the job with Felton Reeves at the old McGee Place about two miles from The Rock toward Piedmont, Ga., trimming an oak tree.

Several months before his death Mickey worked for the Thomaston electrical department, trimming trees from wires, and was pinned up a tree for some time while the property owner held off the workmen with a rifle in an attempt to save her oak tree.

Mickey was inducted into the military in Upson County, Ga., 12 JUL 1955. Told by his father he would have to go back to school or join the service, he joined the U.S. Navy with Alwyn E. Eardley as recruiting officer. He was sent to Recruit Training Command in San Diego Calif. His training unit (335), under Commander P.E. Donigan, graduated Aug. 23, 1955. According to his Enlisted Classification Record dated Aug. 24, 1955, his service no. was 4800456, rate SR, Class 13, Company No. 0335. He scored highest in mechanical ability and was recommended to strike for a Mechanic rating. This is not surprising as he listed under Leisure activities "major engine overhauls" (a hobby he continued to his death) and had taken one year of general shop in high school. He volunteered for aviation duty and subsequently learned to repair helicopters(?). Other test scores were average on clerical (typing 15 wpm).The document also shows he had 20/20 vision, was right handed and was a Class III swimmer. This record includes his signature, verified by C. Howell Drake, PN1, USN. On Sept. 6, 1955 he was appointed Apprentice Petty Officer Third Class at RTC in San Diego, Calif., by Commanding Officer Herbert J. Campbell. Navy Occupation and Training History (by now his class was U1) was indicates he entered some sort of training on Aug. 1, 1956, Feb. 6, 1957, and Sept. 30, 1957. Further training was a General Training Course for Petty Officers with a mark of 3.9 and a Navy Training Course for rank YN3 with a score of 3.1, both in January 1957. His rating records were changed on Sept. 23, 1955 from SR to AA; Aug. 1, 1956 from AA to AN; Dec. 1, 1956 from AN to SN; June 6, 1957 from SN to YNSN; Feb. 6, 1959 from YNSN to YNTSN; and April 11, 1961 from YNTSN to YNSN.

He was released from active duty in Upson County, Ga., 11 JUL 1963. On Sept. 17, 1963 he received official notification of his honorable discharge July 11 of that year from the U.S. Navy Reserves. The certificate was signed by Lt. G.G. Comfort of the Naval Reserve Manpower Center
