Fannie was born in Georgia about 1852. She was the daughter of James SMITH and Martha SMITH. Fannie died before 1890. She is believed to have been Native American. He married Laura WHITE Carpenter in Upson County, Ga., 28 DEC 1890. License issued 27 Dec.; married by Rev. W.F.M. Kent. Laura was born in Upson County, Ga. MAR 1874.

5 iv. Charles Hamilton CARPENTER was born in Upson County, Ga. about 1879. Charles died 19 SEP 1936 in Muscogee County, Ga. He married Ardesa Ellen HOWARD Carpenter. Decie was born 27 FEB 1881. She was the daughter of John Stephen HOWARD and Margaret E. HOWARD. Decie died 29 OCT 1933 in Muscogee County, Ga., at 52 years of age.

+ 6 v. Vallie Gertrude Carpenter AMERSON was born 1 FEB 1881. She was not listed on the 1900 census, having been married the year before.

8 vii. Mathew J. CARPENTER was born in Upson County, Ga. 5 JUL 1897. Matthie died JUL 1968 in Montezuma, Dooly County, Ga.. He married Mae BENNETT Carpenter in Upson County, Ga., 29 JAN 1922.

9 viii. J. CARPENTER was born in Upson County, Ga. 1909.
