First Generation

1. John1 SELF was born in Georgia about 1775. (from Phil Andrews)

He married Tabitha O'NEAL Self before 1800. Toby was born in Georgia about 1779. (Andrews).

John SELF and Tabitha O'NEAL Self are believed to have had the following children:

child 2 i. Mary2 SELF JARRELL was born about 1800. She married Claiborn JARRELL in Pike County, Ga., 3 MAY 1824.(1) Marriage performed by Allen J. Lines, JP. Claiborn Jarrell applied for the license on May 1.

child 3 ii. Susanna SELF Flournoy was born about 1800. She married William FLOURNOY in Upson County, Ga., 12 OCT 1824.(2) Wedding performed by David Duke, JP. An unidentified Flournoy married Maranda Jane Gilbert, b. 1846; date and place unknown (see Gilbert file). A possible son is Joseph B. Flournoy, who married Louiza Denham in Upson County on Nov. 11, 1847.

child + 4 iii. Jethro SELF was born after 1800. He and Isaac Self are known brothers.

child 5 iv. Betsy SELF Barber was born about 1807. She married Peter BARBER in Upson County, Ga., 5 APR 1827. Marriage was recorded 10 April 1827 by A.H. Brown. Hiram P. Adair, JP, performed the ceremony.

Pete applied for bounty land in Upson County, Ga., 1827. Pete, who lived in the 537th District (Flint District) apparently drew two lots of land under the spellings Peter Barbre and Peter Barber.

Peter Barbury was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census in Upson County, Ga.., in Early History of Upson County. In 1835 in Upson County, Ga., Pete, who still lived in the Flint District, drew lot 855, District 2, Section 2; and Lot 262, District 8, Section 3 in the Cherokee Land/Gold Lotteries.

child + 6 v. Isaac SELF sr was born about 1807. He and Jet Self are known brothers.
