Westmoreland Co. to Benjamin Berrman." In 1703, Benjamin was a Capt. in the Militia of
Westmoreland Co., VA. He was named as a Justice of Westmoreland Co., VA on 25 Jun 1712 in
Westmoreland Co., VA.191 (Westmoreland Orders 1705-1721, Pg
185.) In 1715 he was a Sheriff in Westmoreland Co., VA. During the years 1726-1729 he
was a Justice of the Peace in Westmoreland Co., VA. He
signed a will on 4 Aug 1729 in Westmoreland Co., VA.

Elizabeth NEWTON was born in
1681.187 She was the widow of Thomas Gilson, who died about 1707,
when she and Benjamin were married. Elizabeth was named as the relict of Thomas Gilson, in the
deposition by her daughter Behethland Gilson Berryman, widow, John Berryman on 22 May 1724 in Stafford Co.,
VA.187

only daughter and heir of Thomas Gilson, Gent., dec'd, of Stafford County. It is further stated
that Elizabeth Gilson, widow and relict of Thos. Gilson, Gent., dec'd, has by May 22, 1724 married
Benjamin Berryman, Gent., of Washington Parish, Westmoreland County.
Elizabeth, was the daughter of John Newton and his wife, Rose.
Her maiden name has not been found. Rose was first
married to John Tucker, who died in 1671. She then married, Dr. Thomas Garrard, as
his second wife. Rose's marriage to John Newton
was her third marriage. Rose also had children by John Tucker and Thomas Garrard.
She signed a will on 14 Jun 1762 in
Westmoreland Co., VA. She died before 22 Feb 1763 in Westmoreland Co.,
VA.185 The estate of Elizabeth Newton
Berryman was probated on 22 Feb 1763 in
Westmoreland Co., VA.

Behethland Berryman of St. Paul's Parish, Stafford county, widow, is the only daughter and heir of
Thomas Gilson, Gent., deceased, of Stafford county. It is further stated that Elizabeth Gilson,
widow and relict of Thos. Gilson, Gent., deceased, has by 22 May 1724 married Benjamin Berryman,
Gent., of Washington Parish, Westmoreland county.

estate.196 He inherited "The Marsh" in King
George Co., VA which later became Fauquier Co. (formed 1759.) Land office records indicated a
record in 1775 in Fauquier Co., VA.164 He died in Jun
1812 in Fauquier Co., VA.196
