Obediah Biles

36. Obediah BILES76 was born about 1798 in Rowan Co., NC.79 He was 52 on 1850 Rutherford Co., NC Census.  He was living in 1850 in Rutherford Co., TN.   His occupation stated as Carpenter on 1850 Rutherford Co., TN Census.  He appeared on the census on 11 Oct 1850 in Rutherford Co., TN. 80 He died after 11 Oct 1850 in Rutherford Co., TN.  Estate papers of Obediah Biles is in Record Book 15, pg 439( or will).  On the 1860 Census, the parents of William J. Biles, where shown as mother having been born in TN, and father in NC.  He married, Sarah "Sally" ESPEY on 28 May 1816 in Rutherford Co., TN.76

37. Sarah "Sally" ESPEY was born about 1795.  She died about 1835. 79

child i. John Jackson BILES was born about 1819 in Rutherford Co., TN. 39 He was a Postmaster at Delphi, MO on 17 Mar 1846 in Delphi, Gasconade Co., MO.

John J. Biles, appointed Mar 17, 1846 to Aug 27, 1853, when post office discontinued. Reestablished in 1854, with Edward McMillan as Post Master. He appeared on the census on 16 Sep 1850 in Gasconade Co., MO.39  

     John died  in 1862 in Vicksburg, MS, a casualty of the Civil War.  His widow appears on the 1870 Census of Gasconade Co., MO.  John was  on the 1860 Gasconade Co., MO Census of 9 Aug 1860 in. 41 On the 1850 Census Gasconade Co., MO., John J. and William J. Biles are in the same household.

     John was married first to Cynthia Ann Douglas, who died in 1856 in Gasconade Co., MO.  He married a widow, Mary Ann (Smith) Farris.  Mary Ann and husband, William D. Farris, were neighbors.

Mattius S. BILES was born about 1823.  Based on age on 1850 Census.  39 Living in Rutherford Co., TN on 1850 Census, along with Obediah Biles, only other Biles shown in the County.

Robert S. BILES was born in 1825 in Rutherford Co., TN.  Robert was 25 on the Gasconade Co., MO 1850 Census born in TN.  He died in 1857 and is buried in Richardson Cemetery, Canaan Twp. DOB 1825 DOD 1857.  39  

     He was a Postmaster at Canaan, MO on 12 Sep 1854 in Canaan Township, Gasconade Co., MO.  List of Post Office & Postmasters 1820-1971 on: Post Masters 1820-1971  Robert S. Biles, appointed Sep 12, 1854 until Apr 1, 1857, when James Johnston became Postmaster. 

     Robert married Malinda Almedia Walton on November 26, 1846 in Gasconade Co., MO.

child iv. Rebecca BILES was born about 1826. I believe she may have been the Rebecca Jarrett age 23, living with Obediah and wife,  Martha Biles in 1850 Rutherford Co., TN Census.  She was shown as Rebecca Jarrett, and had an child, who's name was not shown.  She actually might have been a daughter of Martha's, since this was both her and Obediah's second marriage.
